  1. I just wrapped up editing this video. I'd love to know what all of you think.

  2. My friend's bf makes 3D printers and I asked them to print me a LEGO brick just to see. Thought some of you might be interested since there was talk about 3D printers before and how it might affect LEGO investing. It takes a while to print, and they turned the speed up so it would print faster so the brick did not come out as well as it probably could have. The brick is by no means perfect, but I can see how easily you can just make your own bricks in the future when everyone owns a 3D printer. I tried putting a minifigure on the brick but it did not stick very well (too loose), but they only use a small hand-held 3D scanner so it's not the best technology. Honestly the 3D printers are quite impressive, and I want one for myself!

  4. I'm sure some of you do this already but when shipping whole sets with box, I wrap up the box in used plastic retail bags to maintain some sense of water proofing before putting in a box with packing peanuts or bubble wrap for shipping. Everything from the nice yellow bags from the LEGO store to the crappy, thin bags from the grocery store I save for this purpose. I bring this up because today an eBay buyer let me know that the box I shipped him was left on his front porch by the mailman in what must have been a heavy rain. The box virtually fell apart but the LEGO set inside was still protected by the plastic bag it was wrapped in. He was grateful and so was I!

  6. I have invested in one Ninjago set at 50% discount. The Core European market is vastly different from the US market (anecdotal evidence). We aren't in the superheroes stuff that much. Friends has been extremely popular. Even though I value Emazers feedback massively (if only I could get into a group with him ), I do not copy past it for the European market I'm positioned on. Ninjago and Chima are tricky. 1. You cannot expect these sets to appreciate long-term as the interest from collectors isn't there and kids will play more games, do less toys long-term. 2. They are heavily promoted through films for kids. Once the fuzz drops, nobody will want them anymore. 3. A lot of competition in that area 4. not of lot of bricks can be used for MOCS 5. the sets have been sitting on the shelves for ages in the shops I visit (even after discuonts) 6. after EoL, the old sets haven't sold well in Europe. The volume checks I make online show little volume 7. Chima is the same concept - doing well in some regions, just almost a complete "miss" in Europe. (even though the temple looks like showing MOC potential) 8. Turtles also looks +/- the same to me My conclusion: risky business to get in massively.

  8. Sold all 10 of my 21001 John Hancock sets I got the other day at TRU for $870.00 shipped free. Not bad for a $68.96 investment. I used the EBAY Global Shipping Program. A buyer from Germany with 2000+ feedback bought them all. Should I have anything to worry about? I'd hate to get burned.

  11. That's a cute little set. Now they just need to release a "moving back into my parent's house" set to go with it. It could be a modular complete with basement apartment, video game system, piles of dirty laundry, empty take-out containers, and circled help-wanted ads newspaper brick.

  20. Wow! You think you over paid? I certainly don`t think so. That is a ton of fairly vintage, rare sets. The fact that you found them all in one place makes sense (garage/estate sale?) given the age, but wow, still. Congrats!

  30. Threads like these always boil down to some simple points. 1. Do math. If you aren't good at math, hire someone else to do math. It's not rocket surgery to figure out whether you are making a profit, how much, and whether eBay or any other venue, online or off, is a good choice for you. In spite of the simplicity of doing math or getting someone else to do it for you, a truly astonishing number of sellers haven't done it or did it once and haven't kept up on it, and have no real clue what their profit margin might be, or any way of identifying when it starts to slide so they can analyze why. 2. eBay is not your Mommy. eBay, like you or me, is in it for themselves. They don't care about my cat's need for the good cat food, or that my younger daughter is still in braces, or that we had to take the car to the repair guy yesterday. They care about their bottom line and the unwashed mob called "shareholders" reaction to that bottom line. 3. Just because eBay isn't your Mommy doesn't make them the Evil Villain. Few of us, when we set our prices to sell items, care about our customers cats' need for the good cat food, or that their younger daughters are still in braces, or that they had to take the car to the repair guy yesterday. Indeed, when our customers try to get us to lower our prices by telling us of their financial problems, we come here and mock them. If we start to see sales drop off, we alter things and lower our prices to entice customers back. If we see sales rocketing, we raise our prices. Yeah. Kinda like eBay.

  31. With the exception of the UCS B-Wing europe/asia always sell out first. Obviously the B-Wing was a special case as it was collecting dust and was clearanced at 50% off only in ******. America. The ability to order in lots of 5 units for 10221 in europe/asia and being able to do so thru at least July is very telling the set is still very much in production. Will this production ever get shipped to ******. America? We must remember production decisions are now very fluid and TLG will ramp up supply to meet demand as long as they still have the license to do so. Now my garbageman told me ******. America will get supplied in June and this makes sense for anyone observing the delivery dates in europe and asia (only may and july, no june....we have a big clue as to where the june supply is going). If you look at LEGO Shop at Home globally you will see more sets backordered/sold out today than ever before. TLG is not flooding the market and then clerancing like they have done in the past. The only question is will there be more production of 10221 or is this current run the last one? You can bet if TLG still has the license and a set is in demand they will continue to make it. I think for those who paid attention to certain items that where clearanced on LEGO Shop at Home the past few weeks got a nice big clue as to what is going EOL at the end of this year.

  32. After seeing quite a few threads like this get really derailed i hope this site at some point evolves into two sites. A US/Canada site and a Euro/UK etc. Sight. The markets are not the same and the retiring/supply etc. In these two markets are not even close. People are arguing about things that are meaningless to the point of investing in Lego. I really have a hard time caring what retires in europe and when since it really has little impact on the US/Canada market. It is nice to have an open forum but with the site.getting bigger threads are really getting derailed. For those "investors" who are buying this "luxury" toy for investment but do not beleive in the market to reward the investment, i suggest you move on. You are a monetary loss waiting to happen. I mean no insult but people below any governemnts median wage base are not the target market here. If you do not get that i suggest you move on. This thread is about 10221. Please take the other stuff somewhere else.

  33. Well I founded this set in a "display box" (not sure for the term...) This pictures show the box I saw, it's not this one but looks the same. This picture has been taken from an ebay "buy it know" but because the price is about 800 dollars I'm not sure if it's very serious. So, if was searching for nice sets (and founded some ^^) in a toy shop, and saw this beauty. The display box has some light but that's it, no music or sounds. I wasn't able to see if it has been yellowed, this set was on top of shelves 3 meters high (10 feet). The employee/seller said he isn't sure he can sell it, his boss wasn't here and he will recall me later. What does such an item (really) worth ? Do you know if bricks are glued ? Thanks

  35. I think DR becoming canon will influence his value over time. However, I don't think he'll be as common as past SW fig polybags as Lego made you purchase $75 SW items. In the past, I would add the cheapest SW item for sale and buy non-SW sets. Heck, too bad that wasn't allowed this yr with the Simpsons packs. I bet Lwgo has a surplus currently whereas they sold out in past May the 5th weeks.

  36. Agree with you for the most part but if a buyer has a choice between two sellers selling the same set for the same price and one box is perfect and one is crushed they are most likely going to buy the perfect box especially if it's going to be given as a gift for Christmas/birthday so I think you would have to reduce price at least some to entice buyers. 38. Well, we'll just need to wait and see, don't we? There is a ton of potential in this 'theme' and I can say that a lot of people will be excited for it. Roller coasters, ferris wheels, bumper cars, flying delorreans, fun house, ect.

  39.     I agree. The fact that the whole thing is compacted into trucks is mind blowing. This set is basically a lego version of transformers.

  46. pictures, as promised... Flo's V8 Cafe, features sensor lighting (disabled for now, so it will not drain batteries over time) Ghost Train / Mad Scientist's Lab (pardon the quality, I didn't want to remove the protective wrap) Features push-button and sensor lighting, white total illumination and a light show highlighting certain parts in different colours Olivia's house, features push button lighting and a turntable to rotate the house. Sorry, couldn't resist to add a somewhat dramatic backdrop to the ever so peaceful world of Lego Friends...
