  1. I'm sure some of you do this already but when shipping whole sets with box, I wrap up the box in used plastic retail bags to maintain some sense of water proofing before putting in a box with packing peanuts or bubble wrap for shipping. Everything from the nice yellow bags from the LEGO store to the crappy, thin bags from the grocery store I save for this purpose. I bring this up because today an eBay buyer let me know that the box I shipped him was left on his front porch by the mailman in what must have been a heavy rain. The box virtually fell apart but the LEGO set inside was still protected by the plastic bag it was wrapped in. He was grateful and so was I!

  3. Yep, Amazon is excellent for those who can qualify and meet their standards - just look into those standards before you start and don't screw up, because they will dump you, forever, and like Taylor Swift you are never, ever, ever getting back together. Bricklink, as someone mentioned, would be third place behind eBay and Amazon. After that come all the outliers - Craigslist, various smaller selling sites (Brick Owl, Bonanza, lots more), eBay Classifieds (formerly Kajiji), and, yes, your local TRU parking lot.

  4. I call lego LEGO Shop at Home about that same thing because i use $20 in points and after the malevolence cancelation they only use 7.20 in vip point. they says that the points are reduced depending the amount of items quantity. Today they give me the point back. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  5. Too hard to MOC. I need instructions ! Note: it would be cool if lego add this little brick inside the box, with the aditional/unused pieces.

  6. Looks good, but the stats on the Winter sets in the UK, do not look good. Good to buy, but not as an investment methinks

  7. Your guess is as good as mine, they said sometime before the end of the year, so I expect November at the latest, and August at the earliest.

  8. Mrs.Frog, Considering how many items you may have purchased BEFORE requesting sales tax exemption, is there anything you can do to recoup the sales tax you'd spent in the past so that you're not facing double taxation when you sell those items? [shameless flattery to get my question answered] Also, let me say that you're one of my favorite contributors to the site. Love your writing style.

  9. I built the 10241 Maersk Triple E. Great set. Too many stickers, but one of my favorite display sets. Love the colors and accuracy of the set.

  10. Threads like these always boil down to some simple points. 1. Do math. If you aren't good at math, hire someone else to do math. It's not rocket surgery to figure out whether you are making a profit, how much, and whether eBay or any other venue, online or off, is a good choice for you. In spite of the simplicity of doing math or getting someone else to do it for you, a truly astonishing number of sellers haven't done it or did it once and haven't kept up on it, and have no real clue what their profit margin might be, or any way of identifying when it starts to slide so they can analyze why. 2. eBay is not your Mommy. eBay, like you or me, is in it for themselves. They don't care about my cat's need for the good cat food, or that my younger daughter is still in braces, or that we had to take the car to the repair guy yesterday. They care about their bottom line and the unwashed mob called "shareholders" reaction to that bottom line. 3. Just because eBay isn't your Mommy doesn't make them the Evil Villain. Few of us, when we set our prices to sell items, care about our customers cats' need for the good cat food, or that their younger daughters are still in braces, or that they had to take the car to the repair guy yesterday. Indeed, when our customers try to get us to lower our prices by telling us of their financial problems, we come here and mock them. If we start to see sales drop off, we alter things and lower our prices to entice customers back. If we see sales rocketing, we raise our prices. Yeah. Kinda like eBay.

  12. If you are buying and selling a commodity and find that the fees in your chosen marketplace wipe out any profit that you could be making, I think that is pretty clear evidence that you have a flawed business plan...either you're buying too high, selling too soon or too low, or some external market shift is working against you. Regardless, in my book, the ability to generate profit in a given marketplace is a pretty clear indicator of whether your business plan is working at least when it comes to reselling Lego.

  13. I do the same (only buying what I like myself, unless the discount is too good to be true - which it then usually is). I don't like the R2D2 by itself from the reviews I have seen, but I can imagine me wanting to motorize one in a couple of years. As statue it is ok-ish, but driving around it would make a nice attraction.

  15. I can not agree with you. Although the markets differ, they are more similar than different. You probably perceive differences as large beacuse you may be focused solely on the LEGO market. According to your analogy we also should separate Western and Eastern Europe because the market properties differ so much. Both sides gets useful information from the other. Looking at US trends alarmed me which sets to invest in and I did not regret it. With a few exceptions if a set retires at either side it will probably do so on the other, only with a delay. If you don't care you are ignoring useful information. Prices may not have an impact, but LEGO policies and production schedules do.

  16. After seeing quite a few threads like this get really derailed i hope this site at some point evolves into two sites. A US/Canada site and a Euro/UK etc. Sight. The markets are not the same and the retiring/supply etc. In these two markets are not even close. People are arguing about things that are meaningless to the point of investing in Lego. I really have a hard time caring what retires in europe and when since it really has little impact on the US/Canada market. It is nice to have an open forum but with the site.getting bigger threads are really getting derailed. For those "investors" who are buying this "luxury" toy for investment but do not beleive in the market to reward the investment, i suggest you move on. You are a monetary loss waiting to happen. I mean no insult but people below any governemnts median wage base are not the target market here. If you do not get that i suggest you move on. This thread is about 10221. Please take the other stuff somewhere else.

  20. To be fair, they also said DS was done last year. SSD may still not be done, so that remains to be seen. If people just go around saying this set and that set are retired, they're bound to be right from time to time.

  24. That's what I said when I saw the notification on my seller dashboard. I listed them high not expecting them to sell right now (because I really don't want to sell them...lol), but put them at a price I would be more than happy to accept. Funny thing is, I sold one last week at the same price but the buyer mistakingly thought it was a 4842, even though my descriptions and photos are clear as day. They just joined eBay and had zero feedback, so I happily refunded and thanked them anyway.

  25. if the aftermarket hits that price TRU will sell out. If that takes 6 months to a year that gives me a 25-30% gain. I am really quite ok with that. If this goes at lego then i expect about 600 by Christmas if not more and 800-1000 when the movie comes out.
