  2. Mom is working today so the kids took me (ha) to buy the new Sandcrawler. This thread will be like my previous 2 building ones (sets 10179 and 10181). We will walk through the building process, take pics, discuss various topics like elements used / how, and finally compare this version to the much beloved and classic 10144 set. Building will begin later today after my son's T-Ball game My other Build / Review Threads. 7780: The Batboat: Hunt for Killer Croc : http://www.brickpick...-croc-batman-1/ 7782 The Batwing: The Joker's Aerial Assault : http://www.brickpick...arison-to-6863/ 7786: The Batcopter: The Chase for Scarecrow : http://www.brickpick...-for-scarecrow/ 10123: Star Wars Cloud City : http://www.brickpick...ars-cloud-city/ 10173: Holiday Train : http://www.brickpick...-holiday-train/ 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon : http://www.brickpick...lennium-falcon/ 10226 Sopwith Camel : http://www.brickpick...-sopwith-camel/ 10181 Eiffel Tower : http://www.brickpick...l-tower-advice/ 10194 Emerald Night train : http://www.brickpick...-emerald-night/ 10196 Grand Carousel : http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/13647-building-10196-grand-carousel/ 10225 UCS R2D2 : http://www.brickpick...0225-ucs-r2-d2/ 75059 UCS Sandcrawler : http://www.brickpick...59-sandcrawler/ 21021 Architecture Marina Bay Sands http://www.brickpick...rina-bay-sands/ 21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 : http://www.brickpick...busters-ecto-1/ Sent from an iPhone using the Brickpicker app

  3. I think the fact that the three old dogs sold out within 15 mins is great news for all lego investors/collectors.

  4. Again, I think that you're reading too much into it. At the end of the day, TLG is a business and one that is extremely profitable by all accounts. The fact that they chose not to discount exclusives in the U.S. almost certainly stems from the fact that they don't need to discount exclusives in the U.S. in order to sell them. In the U.S., SSD has sold out from almost every online market without any discounts. If TLG can sell out a $400 set without discounting it, why would they discount it? Conversely, TLG has sold out of Desert Skiff and the Malevolence in almost every market worldwide except the U.S. As a result, TLG has a need to discount those sets in order to clear out the inventory. I think that the problem that many people here make when trying to figure out TLG's motives in any given situation is to analyze TLG's actions from their own perspective and ascribe to TLG motives consistent with the impact of TLG's decisions on them. Therefore, if TLG prohibits discounts on exclusives, people are apt to view such decision as being motivated by a desire to hurt "investors," when, in reality, it is almost certainly motivated by TLG's realization that it doesn't need to discount exclusives in order to drive sales. Although TLG has an issue with the growth of the reseller market, it is simply implausible that every decision TLG makes vis-a-vis pricing and discounts is designed to screw resellers.

  5. I think you're reading too much into this. It seems fairly clear at this point that TLG is going to use 50% off sales during May the 4th to clear out old inventory for sets that are retiring. They did it last year with the B-Wing and are doing it this year with three of the last five remaining white box SW sets on sale. TLG isn't doing this to give resellers the finger, they are doing it because they have gotten much better with their inventory management and don't need to have sales with the same frequency or depth to clear out old sets. Historically, the May the 4th sales weren't as deep (generally around 25%), but they did apply to larger sets (MF, AT-OT, etc.).

  6. Big bag of suckiness. It's like waking up Christmas morning and finding a turtleneck.

  7. Unpacking : The Lego boxed was filled to the top (no free space). There was 1 inner box with it's own bags inside. 24 total numbered bags (17 plus the 7 inside the white box). Minifigs parts are in random bags (in and out of the inner box). There are quite a few stickers. The manual isn't overly sturdy. However, the color used on build steps are exception. It is very easy to distinguish medium blue gray elements from dark blue gray from black. The initial couple of pages are very cool. Enjoy the pictures. Sent from an iPhone using the Brickpicker app

  8. Look's like there needs to be a march on LEGO street against those evil 1%ers who were smart and planned ahead, had the funds and resources to buy, did all they could to succeed and followed through with a plan. The other 99%ers who missed out and are complaining should try to learn from this. If not you can call certain government parties for sympathy and welfare. Maybe they will even get someone to do it for you so you don't have to do the work for yourself. You may even get them to take away the LEGO that the 1% bought and "fairly" spread it around to the 99% who did nothing. Now where have we heard all this before?

  9. LEGO discounted a whole bunch of items, but did not promote anything in particular. They still have a bunch of items on sale that would appeal to the "regular Joe/Jane." Everyone is disappointed with the lack of inventory, but LEGO made no promises.

  10. Gotta laugh at some of the "outrage" responses over these sales this weekend. I haven't gone back and cross checked the posts....but it's funny how it went from "these sales suck, how dare the TLG insult with substandard sales!" to "OMG!....I can't believe TLG insulted us by only having a limited amount of these great items on sale!!!" in about a minute and a half. Keep em coming boys!

  11. People's reaction to this sale is kind of baffling, I don't really understand the angst towards LEGO. The actual "sale" items are all the things at 10-20% that are current items. Those are still going on. The three 50% sets are all long out of production and were marked down to clear them out, which they did quite well. I had a Malevolence in my cart and it was pulled before I was able to place the order, within 3 minutes. I am sure they didn't have many of these left to begin with. Same with the Skiffs which have more or less been off non-LEGO Store retail shelves for quite some time. I consider 50% off Skiffs a gift. Thank you LEGO. LEGO isn't in this for us They have businesses reasons for doing what they do. And I am sure they are thrilled. The stuff will stay on sale and they will sell ok and give out their promos. They don't have to do anything at all.

They finally put the clip from Hulu onto Youtube which means I can now embed it here for easy viewing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYGSpOfIr9Y Found some other preview clips as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBorckuyaPs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdgLZ1gW75E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3QIeQcyij0 Also, just one more day until the episode airs! 14. Gotta love how touchy some get over Lego. It's a toy, get over it! Anyway, I'm done investing. I just won't do it if I can't get every deal offered. Life is so unfair.

  16. I was organized, fast, clever, had recently showered, and I got my order in on the dot. My two Malevolence still went to backorder, and who knows if they'll be cancelled. Even if I were the hand-wringing type, there's no point in it. All the time and energy I could use on grousing that this is the fault of Lego or other investors or those meddling kids, I use instead in moving on to the next item on my buy list and looking for the next good deal.

  17. That's not the case though. There are a ton of SW sets available to buy if you want the promos. There are 3 sets out of the entire sale that are out of stock. These were 50% off for a reason, Lego had lingering stock and wanted to get rid of it quickly. They succeeded. You win some and you lose some. I assure you that it's not in Lego's best interest to mock customers, that isn't what's going on here at all.

  21. Snagged one! My first. Thanks for the heads up. I assume what happened is that as they cancelled the multiple item orders their inventory system updated to reflect the new now available inventory.

  22. "... And they're off!" Bags 1 and 2 (2 each) ripped open. My little guy is helping with bag 1 before his bedtime. Of course, he built all the minifigs already. Ha The first couple of bags are for the base. Sent from an iPhone using the Brickpicker app

  25. May 4th is a glorified way of clearing out backed-up inventory, basically a pre-clearance clearance sale. The only thing they advertised was the minifig and the poster, both of which are still readily available. The people mad about the lack of inventory are the same people that buy up all the clearance LEGO they can find at Target or Walmart before everyone else has a shot... you can't have it both ways.

  26. because everyone who ordered within 30 mins of midnight in the US has been labelled as an investor by Lego and had their order status demoted while they consider banning you all lol

  28. S @ H is a load of bull**** !!! They rejected my payment then the cart never loaded correctly. By the time I cleared my cache, all of the 50% stuffs were OOS !!!

  29. I hope not, that would be pretty sad and could have negative consequences for future promotions.
    1 point
  30. He probably had six devices/computers set up before hand. Hit "order" six times after seeing the promo go live, and there you go... EDIT - possibly even six windows open on his desktop instead.

  31. Yup.. After that VH mess , I'm still pissed .

  32. Oh, so that`s why....... /sarcasm You know what, if you did place 6 separate orders in that time frame, you deserve a medal, much less all that cheap Lego.

  33. Lol F*** this thing. It rejected my payments 3 times and now the submit/check out button is gone from my cart. I pass on this lol

  37. That would be great because some of us are still waiting on April 2 orders!

  38. Despite all the little differences between the submitted model and the final design, I think Lego did a very good job altogether honestly. Much like The Zombies, this is just one of those "must haves". No waiting, no excuses, no nothing. I'm getting this the second I can period.

  40. Damn, I wish I had bought more B wings last year.
    1 point
  41. No. That`s the approximate "MSRP" value of the figure. Lego doesn`t sell polybags directly (that I recall at least). The free poster is listed at $0.99 as well, and they definitely won`t sell those either. It`s not going to last the full 3(?) days anyway. Wouldn`t be surprised if they were all gone tomorrow, unless TLC has a mound of them. Even then, they`re not going to last.

  42. Damn. I'm from Europe and in Florida right now, last year I was bummed because I was here a week after the awesome B-Wing deal and didnt get a chance. I ll still take that Malevolence and Skiff, where I come from their msrp are 200$ and 40$...

  43. Bottom line is that I will be making multiple purchases tonight. It is a BrickPicker rule to buy any set that is discounted 50% or more. Sent from my iPad using Brickpicker

  44. Lol I have sold the Yoda watches for less than this so called "sale". So TLC has figured out resellers are the main buyers for the UCS / big sets and will buy no matter what. Why discount when ppl still clean up their stocks at MSRP?

  45. Notice that on the Ecto-1 box, there is no CUUSOO label. Instead, it has the link to ideas.lego.com on the back. This means that the Curiosity Rover is the last set to have the CUUSOO label.
