  1. Lego, the company known by kids and parents alike for its colorful building bricks, is hugely successful. Over the last four years it has enjoyed double-digit growth...but, just ten years ago, the company was losing nearly a million dollars a day. Bloomberg traveled to the company

  3. Overall this section was created as a trial for: People that want to go into their own area and spew whatever garbage they want because they know we don't want it on the main forum People that are paranoid that Lego is watching them and want to change their username. People that think they have massive secrets and don't want to share People that feel that don't want to deal with noobs (even though they were once a noob) I am sure there is more we can add to this list As of this exact moment there are 0 people using it and it doesn't bother me at all. I just don't want to hear about it later if it gets removed from the site. If people think this feature should be free, sorry. Everyone is lucky that Ed is a nice guy. My original setup was for 500 Brickpoints to start and 10 a post. He talked me off the ledge. Bottom line, Ed and I try to cater to everyone. We have no fear in trying something new. If it works, great, then there is something here for everyone. If it doesn't. Then it goes.

  4. Well of course it's in the last place you look. You wouldn't keep looking after you find it.

  5. And remember - some of the fun is taking chances and learning for yourself. Whether you have people telling you what to do or not, you have tons of incredible information on past sets, etc. at your fingertips. I would never recommend anyone starting this without tons of research.

  7. I understand the desire to keep all of your sets intact during the move, but keep in mind that depending on how long you take to pack the sets and keep them protected, it might be a better use of time to simply repair them when you reach the new place. My suggestion for getting them moved is similar to some other folks, especially concerning your big sets. Put your set in a bag, tie it up, dump it in a box, then put padding (newspaper, bubble wrap, etc) around the in-the-bag set. Your set is secure enough for the move now, and if any pieces fall off (which they will), they're not only in the bag with the rest of the set, but you also don't run the chance of throwing any pieces away with your packing material, which could easily happen if you put your padding inside the plastic bag with the set. For the big sets, I'd probably throw a little bit of padding in the box underneath the set too to cut down on car vibration/bumps. I wouldn't worry about the little sets as much, they usually hold together well and they're easier to put back together. I'd still bag them individually, but maybe do a layer of small sets in a box, then a layer of padding, then another layer of sets, etc. One last thing- it might not be useful advice to members of this forum since we all have mountains of shipping materials lying around, but t-shirts are awesome for packing up, especially for fragile stuff like plates or glasses; might work for some of the Lego sets too. There's also the added advantage that once all your breakables are ready to go, half of your clothes have been packed too.

  8. I agree with you. This is a simple option for some members. If they want to use it, it's there. If no one uses it, we will remove the feature. This is an option to the forum software that we bought so we figured to give it a shot. We experimented with a live chat for a couple of weeks and that was a bust, so we removed it. We are always trying to improve the site. Boom or bust, Jeff and I are onto the next idea.

  9. I have seen numerous post in different sub forums asking how many bags come in a specific set. This youtube channel answers that question for quite a few sets. The reviews are as good as they get coming from a little kid that is 6 years old. Anyway here is the link to his channel, hope this helps those of you that have questions as to how many bags are supposed to be in a given set. http://www.youtube.com/user/EvanTubeHD

  10. there are always members here they are more than willing to help, i don't see this as ever changing. this is still a social and fun community. the two guys that posted before me are some of the most helpful members out there and i wouldn't hesitate to ask either one of them any question, or me of course. and as DNIIM said, part of the fun is to make mistakes. heck i remember posting one of my very first deals on the daily deal thread thinking I discovered the very best thing after gravity, but my buddy exciter1 politely pointed out that 11% off is not something to brag about..lol.....i think he was polite anyways have fun

  11. Came across 9 John Hancocks (21001) at TRU today. $7.79 each. I was shocked and did a double take when I saw them on the shelf, considering these have been retired for what, over two years? Easily the best random find I've come across so far!

  12. Just in case he does and doesn't invite you, don't feel bad. I'll sum up the topics for you now: Current strategies - buy at least one SSD, DS, GE, PS per month until said sets are no longer available 2015 strategy - continue buying from the previous year's list plus add a few newer large sets like TB. 2016 strategy - more of the same. Maybe start mixing in EV. FOR ALL YEARS - never exceed 200 transactions. That's about it ?

  14. We are going to try a new feature of allowing members to create Private Groups. These will be areas of the forum that do not show up at all unless you are part of that group. These areas will be for those of you that would like to discuss or comment on topics in a more intimate atmosphere without feedback from the general public. We realize everyone has different techniques and views of the LEGO investing world, some that may not agree with the masses and then that creates issues and tons of deleted posts. The private forums will be for those types of topics. Overall they will not be moderated. Ed and I will be the only ones outside of the invited members that can view any of these areas. We will make it known now that we do have the authority to remove any content that we feel is not appropriate or damaging to the site. Anyone can create a new private group and invite as many members as they wish into that group. We have put a fee of 250 Brickpoints to create each group. Every post in these private groups will cost you 5 Brickpoints each. While Brickpoints have not been a big focus or hidden lately, I can assure you that they will become much more of a focus in the upcoming and future updates. Groups need to be approved by an admin. If it does not get approved in a short period of time, please send me a PM. For each new group, I just need to set some quick permissions to make sure it shows up for all invited members after its created. You can have a little fun with your group. Give it a name, add a logo and some background graphics. It has all the features of the forum, so nothing is different there. It has its own home page area to see who is part of the group and latest posts. If this works out well, we will solicit feedback and enhance it. Please let us know if you have any questions. CREATE A NEW GROUP NOW!

  17. pixmania.fr is really good, each set has its own box. I never had to return anything though... I have received many boxes and never been disappointed, but maybe it's only luck, or only in France. Note that if you can, always chose a "distribution-point" (instead of the traditionnal post/post office) because shipping is better (little slower but boxes arrive in better condition).

  18. Depends on what site you are selling on and who the buyer is. When this stuff happens to me, I just bricklink the parts to the person. But technical they could go to Lego and get the pieces back.

  19. the release date is May 1. This Sunday, FOX will start airing the commercials leading up to the Simpsons LEGO episode on May 4th. This will be many Simpson's fans first awareness of the lego series. So the general public which including the hoards of NON-AFOL simpson loving folk are going to be grabbing these and/or looking for them starting Sunday evening. I'm looking to combo up a couple of complete sealed minifig sets tied to a couple of Simpsons houses for some flippin' in the up coming 2 weeks.

  20. Welcome! Well, you can try looking under the "retiring soon" tag on the Lego website (only available when you set your region to the United States). Other than that, Lego usually does not officially anounce retirement in advance. You will find rumours, speculation on many of the forums over here. See for yourself how plausible you find them. As a rule of thumb, most sets stick around for about two years, but there are exceptions. For example the Death Star is from 2008 so entering it's 7th year of production. There are also sets that are discontinued earlier, for example the Zombies set in the Monster Fighters theme, which was just available for four months in 2012. Sent from my iPad using Brickpicker

  24. Thanks to hxckid88's heads up, I finally picked up an Arkham Asylum from Amazon WH. I've only been trying for four months now. The other day, hxckid88 mentioned he'd be sending one back. If it's not his, then be on the look out for his, if you're still looking for one. Thanks hxckid88.

  27. I can see why some people have been requesting it. The only problem I see is that there will be groups (or even just one or two groups) made up of a few core members where all the useful investing info will be discussed, while the rest of the forum just becomes redundant and full of pointless chatter, useless speculation and regular Lego chat. And there are other forums where people can go for that. That could harm the site in the long run and make it less useful as an investing resource to relative noobs like myself. Which I'm guessing is why people have been asking for it....?

  28. Two things: 1. The CEO said point blank the new China plant was not for cost cutting, it was for market expansion to Asia 2. I know more about the Friends theme than the LEGO rep that accompanied the reporter One of the above should be a sign of the apocalypse :D

  29. Picked up this set recently in a mixed lot with a few other vintage sets, with the box and instructions in excellent condition, and only missing the arial and the yellow ladder and one little sticker. Really nice set with a great mix of parts, that was only released in Europe at the time I think (1977).

  30. The first time I took my then girlfriend now wife out to California we drove from Atlanta, she got all excited when we crossed the Arizona/California boarder and said "We'll be in LA in 45 minutes or so right?" I almost wrecked on I-10 I was laughing so hard.

  31. The mod team will not be watching over them unless you invite them. Only the Admins (Jeff and Ed) will be able to see into each group. If you make a group and no one shows up you should have perhaps made a more interesting group. The fact it costs a few points will stop people from randomly creating tons of groups that no one uses and hopefully steers them into making interesting, useful and fun groups. I'm not sure on the functionality of group owners being able to moderate their group, that's one for Jeff. I hope the members that cried out for this feature so vociferously in the past now use it.

  33. every company in the world that manufactures in china knows their products are being faked, often times by the same damn factories, it's a term referred to as the "chinese nightshift" the legit people leave for the day and a second set of workers come in and make the same parts and stuff often using inferior components. the companies won't do **** about it because the chinese government will kick them out of the country if they make a big enough stink about it and they'd lose millions of dollars setting up somewhere that isn't as cheap fact of the matter is that you can rail against chinese knockoffs all you want but until communism actually falls and there's some sort of legit uncorrupt government oversight in china, knockoffs will flow freely out of that country

  35. It would be awesome if you listed the set name, for those of us who haven't memorized every set. That's a good price. The T-Rex's would probably sell for $100/pair pretty easily.

  36. I am personally ecstatic to see the classic Space icon placed in there for starters. Aside from being the first original based design, the final outcome shall certainly be one to see considering how many changes Lego will have needed to perform to effectively make things more 'legal' & 'proper' by their own build standards while retaining the basic premise of the base design. Unfortunately no matter what the outcome, there will be a line of fan boys & girls out there somewhere disappointed by the results.
