  2. I get what you're saying, Wazza. As a former supermodel and Nobel Prize winner in the "Fabulous" category, the exaggerations or outright fabrications of others makes me smile a little, too. As I sit here in my home (well, I say "home" but of course it's a replica of a Scottish Castle) I think to myself - hold on just one moment -Yes, Jeeves, please tell Lady Wimbletonion-Von Snootipants that I'll 'phone her back later about the charity ball" - yes, where was I? Oh, right, LEGO falsehoods. Well, I don't like to brag, but with the First Lady owing me SEVERAL important favors and of course all I did for dear Bill Gates' eldest niece Hortensia upon the occasion of her debut, all I can say is if you have CONNECTIONS, if you see what I'm getting at, getting a few LEGO deals here and there isn't difficult. For people like ME, of course. Everyone else is just making things up.

  3. It just looks incredible from the box, which is a work of art itself. The best part about the box is it has the extra "flap" that shows more artwork of the set. I miss the days when sets came with that second front cover that lifted to reveal some of the best aspects of the set in nifty blister packs behind a transparent plastic cover.

  9. This thread on eurobricks shows a technique to apply the clear stickers so you can get them perfect every time. I've used this method and it works pretty well. You wet the sticker and lightly wet the surface you're applying it too, this allows you to slide the sticker around to position it perfectly. You then use a dry sponge to soak up the excess water and let it dry. This doesn't work with the white backed stickers since they are paper and will get destroyed by the water.

  16. She looked at my history in pulling up the orders and said "you reallllyyyy like LEGO, don't you". We proceeded to have a good conversation. She said based on your history you will not want to miss it. She said it will be next to Black Friday in terms of what I can expect. She would not give me details.

  17. Any specific deals mentioned in this conversation? Because a Brickpicker's definition of a good deal differs from a Lego CS rep's definition of a good deal.

  19. The CS rep at LEGO told me that my SSD's were scheduled to ship on May 5th. She said it was scheduled in line with the Star Wars Days at LEGO. She said there was quite a bit planned and that I should be logged in 15 minutes to midnight on the 3rd for the very good deals that are to be had. Very nice lady.

  22. Guys, just noticed that GE on TRU has a "our exclusive" on it. Is it going the way of VC now that target and Walmart doesn't have it anymore?
    1 point
  23. Certainly. I spend nearly all of my scholarship on these sets (yeah, I am a good student...). All the more it turned out my girlfriend likes LEGO more than partying or any other activity. She didn't use to, she got addicted because of me. It is like a disease. I swear I am going to marry her.

  24. Whether or not more Grand Emporiums are hitting the market in the next couple of weeks, members should realize this is a short term buy on the regular retail market. In my experience, when any LEGO set, especially ones that have been around this long, start to go in and out and in and out of stock from multiple sources, the writing is on the wall and EOL is knocking on the door. There are always exceptions, but now is the time to buy them IMO if you haven't already. One only has to look at the Fire Brigade as an example of people blowing off numerous signs of EOL to buy sets 50 more Batman Funhouse Escapes or Barrel Escapes and regretting it later....

  31. Back to the OP, great deals can be and are found , including $139.99 and better Pet Shops (heck, I managed three at 10% off, just a few dollars shy of getting them for $139.99, simply by taking advantage of double VIP the past couple of weeks). I am sure that, like most corners of life, there are folks who put on airs to be interesting (heaven knows I do, but I usually try to indicate when I'm being satirical and hilarious rather than serious) and folks who suffer from gambler's disease (don't own a calculator, don't keep records, and only remember their wins and not their losses). So long as you're not trying to measure your own success as a bargain hunter against anyone else's, it doesn't matter much. I keep a spreadsheet of purchases, discounts, MSRP, and what my average "discount" (across the board of all purchases) is for a given month, and that gives me a feel for what I'm personally able to accomplish given my available dollars, geographic location, desired set accumulation, etc. Whether anyone is lying about the size of their... um, discounts or collection or whatever... is of little interest or concern to me.

  43. I remember someone on Eurbricks pointed out a pattern with the modulars excluding Market Street. Let's see. Cafe Corner - corner / business Green Grocer - straight / business, residential Fire Brigade - straight / government Grand Emporium - corner / business Pet Shop - straight / business, residential Town Hall - straight / government Palace Cinema - corner / business Parisian Restaurant - straight / business, residential Hmm, from the looks of the list of modulars officially designed by Lego (Market Street was by a fan), it would appear the next modular should be another straight (side) section government building. Perhaps we shall finally get that Police Precinct we all have been hoping for, eh? :derisive:
