When the Millenium Falcon 10179 first came out I was like what da !@#$, $600????? That's crazy. Nevertheless I put it into my Amazon cart to see if it would go on sale and maybe I'll be stupid to buy it. After about a year after it's release I was reading and viewing other people opening and such on Youtube. I was like that's crazy spending 24-48hrs to build it. Then one day, Amazon had it on sale for $390 so finally bought it. I was so excited receiving it but I remembered it took 24-48hrs to build and I just had my first kid so I did the wise thing and put it away in the closest when I could find some alone weekend time to build it. 12 months later forgetting about it I noticed it was no longer for sale on Amazon but 3rd party people were selling it for $1000. Ebay was around $800-$900. I was like uhm I can't open it now since it appreciated plus I still don't have that much free time to build it. Two years later I looked it up and it was $2000. Now several years later and two kids and up to around $3500 I can never get myself to open it and instead I have to sell it. So excited when I first bought it and now so sad I'll never build it cause it's just worth too much money5 points

Your civility is fine. People know who I am talking about. It's a handful of members. Supraboy was one of the culprits. He is banned. He has tried numerous times to come up with secondary accounts and IPs, but Jeff has some nice new tools to work with that can keep track of knuckleheads like him. There are many ways to respond to people within the realm of good taste and manners. Even if another member is a complete tool, there is a way to respond respectfully, yet still make a point of your superior knowledge or intellect. It's actually fun coming up with ways to stay within the accepted forum etiquette and come up with creative and sarcastic responses. I know. I was very good at it.4 points

Bah, I see you are not into them diamond HDMI cables then. Though Amzon stock levels are kinda low for them, might have to pick up a few in case they are nearing retirement... Or, try adding 999 of these babies: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN85S9-85-Inch-Ultra-120Hz/dp/B00CMEN95U/ (make sure to read reviews of course)3 points

I just like to extend my small token of support for Ed's original post and the sentiments expressed throughout the thread. We have all noticed a bit of a deterioration in posting etiquette lately. It may be pertinent to add this link to the forum rules for new members to check out and older members to refresh themselves on.3 points

Another similar situation happens when you buy items from the same seller and he/she offers "Free" shipping (like me and many others here). You are still paying the shipping costs twice, and the seller usually ships the items in the same package. It's just less obvious. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker3 points

I knew I had a 10179 but thought I had opened it. But when I check a few weeks ago it was still in an unopened shipper box, first edition so should be worth more than the $499 I paid for it2 points

If you don't want people to think you're spoiled, don't brag on the internet that you're getting $600 worth of lego for your birthday.2 points

I figured with 65 days to go, now is a good time to start a thread for the real Football fans on BP (j/k). Anything related to WC preparations, squads, players, coaches,, and ultimately games can be discussed here . Things will probably heat up as we closer to June but why not start a bit early . Please make sure any discussion is civil, respectful, and no trolling. So, who do think will win? which team are you cheering? who will be the dark horse? will the USA make it out of the first round?1 point

in a sort of related post - i went to pick up an SSD for instore delivery last night. the guy goes to the back and so says "oh this is a big one". then comes walking out with what initially I thought was a used Star Wars pi1 point

I'll be waiting for some sales on this, but with the Dewback, landspeeder and number of minifigs, the price is actually somewhat reasonable. When it gets down to $50 USD, now we're talking.1 point

My own favourite female character is Eowyn. Unfortunately it somewhat looks we may get neither, it's been awfully quiet about a third Lord of the Rings wave. Verzonden vanaf mijn iPhone met behulp van Brickpicker1 point

The Big Shop remodel is complete. I was there a week and a half ago for Star Wars weekend and they had every exclusive set available. They must have sold out of SSDs since then.1 point

I'm not sure about this one. It's ok for construction but for the price and investment it lacks some... charisma. I would take some if the price is really good (like -40% RRP), but not too much. 60052 looks better IMHO (I would invest on this one when EOL)1 point

*cough cough* http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/9389-civility/ To the OP (original poster)... What Pirate is trying to say is that the internet is a place where you need to be careful with your words. People will judge you without knowing you. $600 is of Lego is quite a nice haul for your birthday and exceeds what many kids might get. I never got that much for any birthdays when I was a kid, but my partner and I make a lot more money than my parents did and we "spoil" our kids accordingly. Enjoy your new LEGO! And more importantly, I hope you enjoyed your birthday!1 point

Probably the last Helms Deep in any store! Paid $95 for it after tax using a coupon at a mom and pop type of toy store. The clerk said the only reason they still had one set left was a worker found it hidden over the weekend. Lucky for me!1 point

I think we all have had moments of bad, dumb, and regretful comments. I let most slide by, as others have done to me. however if you are a kidder, I have been know to kid back. I will nether admit nor deny the following: Talking about my glorious, beautiful, genius, and all around prefect children. ( this is true even after a "stepping on a Lego at 2 in the morning ") taking a tread of topic, because I forgot what the tread topic was or knew that everyone would rather know some thing about my glorious, beautiful, genius, and all around prefect children. so In conclusion, I am prefect (joke), and I find humor relieves stress and tension. Also we were all new at some point.1 point

Exactly; it's basically similar to that high school mentality of the seniors treating the freshmen like crap even though in the beginning they were themselves one. Everybody had to start somewhere from very little or next to nothing and work their way on up unless you were just born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Sometimes it would be beneficial if people can recall their own humble start before placing certain judgments on another.1 point

Nowhere does it say a seller has to combine shipping and give you a discount often times the buyers are the fruitcakes making up the rules asking him to ship separately petty move on your part either agree to the price or dont buy now youre telling him how to ship the items. The reason you ask is because it is not required sounds like you have a problem being told no...1 point

If the sets are recent, check Eurobricks. There are a lot of member reviews there that usually show the unopened bags if it is a worthwhile reviewer. You could probably google it as well like "lego set xxxxx review" and see what comes up.1 point

You`ve listed, IMHO, a fairly lengthy list of items there, and I thought "spoils" would be appropriate. Didn`t mean to say your were "spoiled" and was intending to say something to the effect of "loot" or "presents". That list could have been a pair of socks depending on who you ask Never the less, enjoy your gifts!1 point

I sure hope it is a full line instead of a single ship, they can't make enough pirates for me. I thought Pirates 2009 was fantastic, unfortunately the theme didn't get a very large lineup and did poorly, I just hope we can get our next generation of kids into pirates. For me, it was one of the highlights of my childhood to play with the Black Seas Barracuda, Caribbean Clipper, Elderado Fortress and Forbidden Island. A reboot of this theme will be a hit for AFOL's for sure, but will kids like it? As much as I'd love more large ships, I would also like some good large ports and islands, a bit like the Rock Island Refuge, Imperial Trading Post, Forbidden Island and Elderado Fortress.1 point

The topic went from civility to silly. I am still a newb but the first thing I did when I found the site was read the blogs. Then if I had a question (I had two about retired sets), I looked in the forums before posting. More civility is better in general as society as a whole is increasingly me-centric. But newer members can help by doing their research first and trying to make their own decisions. I am waiting for the summer when the posts change from "Is this a good deal?" To "Is this a good time to sell?" (: Ex astris, scientia.1 point

As do I. However I have 8 of these and so I consider this a hedge in case I'm wrong. I made $150 off these 2 sets in the space of 5 months (plus the free christmas gift sets I got with each purchase) so I'll take a little profit now and hold the remainder.1 point

Sweet! Love the pics! Do you have to run 2 PF motors when you run 2 trains combined like that? Or can 1 PF motor handle it? My motor and PF lights arrived. 1 motor works okay. Waiting on my speed PF controller, just using the on/off remote switch at the moment. Nice!! I wonder if it is even worth using a second motor when running a x2 Horizon Express setup?1 point
