  4. The topic went from civility to silly. I am still a newb but the first thing I did when I found the site was read the blogs. Then if I had a question (I had two about retired sets), I looked in the forums before posting. More civility is better in general as society as a whole is increasingly me-centric. But newer members can help by doing their research first and trying to make their own decisions. I am waiting for the summer when the posts change from "Is this a good deal?" To "Is this a good time to sell?" (: Ex astris, scientia.

  6. Take some time to read the reviews on this product. Not quite as good as the sugar-free gummy bear reviews, but highly entertaining nonetheless.

  7. This story has been making the rounds on the Lego fan sites. Everyone ready for a new pirate ship? How about a new theme? http://www.thebrickfan.com/new-lego-pirate-ship-coming-in-the-future/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+LegoEverlasting-LegoReviewsNews+%28The+Brick+Fan+-+LEGO+Reviews+%26+News%29

  9. I bought the Sea Cow for my sons 6th birthday. He just finished it tonight. He built 95% of it by himself! pretty impressive for a 6 year old, but he is a self appointed Master Builder. Haha! This is an incredible set! It's just huge and very detailed. I had to take a pic next to our other favorite set, the Haunted House, for size comparison.

  10. use Google to investigate. The conversation won't be discussed here as most of the regular posters would like to use this little thing called brickpicker affiliate links and see the site develop. Shockingly, in life, it's not always about the best deal.

  11. As it seems like there are some members new to the part buying aspect of Bricklink, I thought I'd share some information on programs that can make it easier. Bricklink is a great thing to have, but using it at first feels like a time machine to 15 years ago and shows you just how bad online shopping can be on an outdated website design. That said, two programs that can relieve some of the pain are Brickstore and Brickficiency. Brickstore essentially lets you manage the Bricklink database in a more powerful and easier to use way. Imagine the Bricklink parts/sets catalog combined with Excel. I primarily use it to check prices and inventory levels of parts and sets, to create wanted lists for missing parts I need or sets I'm trying to build from scratch, and to verify inventory of a Bricklink order or a used set I bought. It has the ability to import set inventories, import Bricklink orders, export Bricklink wanted lists, etc which make it much faster to use than the Bricklink website. Brickficiency is a program that takes a Bricklink wanted list or Brickstore .bsx file and scans Bricklink to find the cheapest combination of 2-5 stores to purchase the parts from. This makes it very easy to find where to purchase a list of parts from, rather than having to manually and tediously use the store list on the Bricklink Wanted list page. Hopefully this is helpful to anyone who has not heard of these programs, and if you already have, you probably know how useful they are . If it would be helpful I can write some short tips and guides on using these programs to accomplish certain tasks such as verifying completeness of a used set, identifying a used set based on a few bricks, Bricklinking a complete set from scratch, etc, or even just basic Bricklink tips and info, just let me know

  13. Then again, something like Pirates of the 7 seas -- where they produce 7 iconic ship designs from the world over, like a Barbary Pirates set, a Chinese Junk, a Spanish treasure galleon, an east Indian trader, an american privateer, etc -- maybe get outlandish and throw in a viking ship.

  15. Probably be more difficult to smuggle these bags out of the store then to just grab the box and make a dash for the exit Jokes aside, there really is no way to tell if these are stolen are not. More than likely the box was damaged and these were simply removed.

  16. It wouldn't be a bad deal if you were going to buy these sets for yourself. If I lived in that area, I would have bought the lot after verifying that they are all complete. I wouldn't want to buy only half a haunted house when the seller claimed to have everything.

  17. While I think the threads on this forum are pretty civil, everyone should probably follow the "think twice, post once" mentallity. It serves no purpose to berate someone over a seemingly "stupid question." What is common knowledge to you may not be for someone else. If people post in the wrong thread, kindly refer them to the correct one and move on. "Everyone was once a noob, and you are a noob but once" - old Irish proverb

  18. Just wait for the next BN coupon round. Lol Joking asking, this is a well run site and everyone is great is their own special way. For the amount of postings and members I think we are very civil as a whole but I agree with ED , new members are sometimes made fun of for no reason. We all started from scratch at some pt and when I first joined the site. i found great support from everyone especially from exciter1 and DNIIM.

  21. here here! I would also argue for tougher skin for most folks, but your'e right. Being rude to newbs doesnt help a site to grow. Pretty much every forum i've belonged to goes through this process. Those who post frequently constantly crave new info, and new entertainment. Those who join later 'muddy the waters' with topics new to them, making it more difficult for the 'elite' as you mentioned to get to their 'new' info. Short of creating a new ultra secret Sr. Members only forum, you're going to have this issue. Plus the more you limit the membership to something, the more likely you'll miss out on new thoughts, and points of view.

  24. Would be really cool to get a new pirate theme, even cooler if we get some blue coats I just hope the ships are more like the Imperial Flagship and less like Brickbeard's Bounty. I don't have BB, but it seemed a little too goofy for my tastes, I like more realism in my ships.

  29. Today we gave Gavin his new sets and the minifigure shelf. He was so happy to get the Sea Cow and Ewok Village! You could tell by his reaction those were definitely on his wish list :-) The Super Heroes sets were also a big hit! I want to once again say thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. The family was very grateful for this. We talked a little bit about their plans to begin an annual LEGO based fundraiser to keep the spirit alive. I believe this is the start of something very special. I'll keep everyone here updated as the plans develop. Please keep Gavin and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

  35. Yep,not a bad CAGR at all. By my calculations, making the assumptions of 12% Ebay fees that would equate to a CAGR of: 9629633978455400000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% That's the best Excel could do. Actually in short hand it is 9.63 x 10 ^ 148. Bear in mind that a "Googol" is 10 ^ 100 i.e. 1 with 100 zeros behind it. So a pretty damn big CAGR. Pity you couldn't reinvest it at the same rate over a longer time period than your 1 day investment. you'd probably end up owning all the money in the world in a matter of weeks

  37. Yeah....good deals disappear fast no matter the area you are in. I have lost out on some amazing lots because I hesitated or wasn't pushy enough to get the seller to agree to hold it for me.... Some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue

  41. Wow...I am amazed by the pure number of refreshment stands in the girl lines. Falafel cart please! Actually I'm not totally clear what this stand is supposed to be. One croissant and a bunch of flowers? It also looks like this cart can be hitched to something (Maybe Stephanie's tractor?). Unlike Emma's Ice Cream Cart, which she has to push herself. Ditto on a Frozen set! Ice palace, ice palace...

  43. +1. As an eBayer who uses the site as a business platform, it is your job to leave feedback. It literally takes 10 seconds per transaction. Frankly, if a seller didn't leave feedback after I purchased from him/her, I would never deal with them again.

  45. I have been looking for a place to post this lately and looks like I can do it here...........It absolutely makes my blood boil when someone doesn't leave feedback. I would have at least 50 more feedbacks if everyone left feedback like they were supposed to do. In my mind its part of the purchase agreement!! DAMN YOU LAZY PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!
