  1. Today we gave Gavin his new sets and the minifigure shelf. He was so happy to get the Sea Cow and Ewok Village! You could tell by his reaction those were definitely on his wish list :-) The Super Heroes sets were also a big hit! I want to once again say thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. The family was very grateful for this. We talked a little bit about their plans to begin an annual LEGO based fundraiser to keep the spirit alive. I believe this is the start of something very special. I'll keep everyone here updated as the plans develop. Please keep Gavin and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

  3. I added to the main post a little note for all new members that reads as thus. Note for new members: You can already earn a couple of User Awards just by simply replying to this thread but these will be given only at your personal discretion. If you are comfortable with letting others know, we have a "Mr. Brick" award for the gentlemen and a "Ms. Brick" for the ladies. For the youngsters (14 or younger) there is the "Brick Brat" award while the old farts (who were around to collect sets in the 60s/70s) can get "The Geezer". These are not mandatory at all as we respect everyone's right to their own privacy. They are only meant to be fun icons to help establish the kind of person you are here on BrickPicker. If you do not ask for it, we (Admins/Mods) will not force one of the aforementioned awards onto your profile. Now as for all the other Member Awards, they can be earned by participation around the forums or on the site in general through a number of ways and will be given when it seems that you have done enough for a particular merit. My advice for anyone wanting to know what the best way to earn an award is basically by being helpful and courteous to other members. In other words, if you would like a Mr./Ms. Brick and/or Brick Brat/The Geezer award then politely ask for it here. Those are the only awards we will give on request. As I said, all others must be earned through various contributions on the site.

  4. 4x Yoda "NY I " minifigures from the X-Wing TRU Times Square event and 2 sleeves for the X-Wings. I was only collecting/investing for 4 months and was a noob, not knowing or understanding what the little Yodas might be worth today. The kicker was TRU selling the X-Wings for only $50 each...typical TRU silliness. Even more rare because I woke my 7 year old up at the crack of dawn, dragged him on the train and he had no idea where we were going. Rare and special indeed.

  5. As it seems like there are some members new to the part buying aspect of Bricklink, I thought I'd share some information on programs that can make it easier. Bricklink is a great thing to have, but using it at first feels like a time machine to 15 years ago and shows you just how bad online shopping can be on an outdated website design. That said, two programs that can relieve some of the pain are Brickstore and Brickficiency. Brickstore essentially lets you manage the Bricklink database in a more powerful and easier to use way. Imagine the Bricklink parts/sets catalog combined with Excel. I primarily use it to check prices and inventory levels of parts and sets, to create wanted lists for missing parts I need or sets I'm trying to build from scratch, and to verify inventory of a Bricklink order or a used set I bought. It has the ability to import set inventories, import Bricklink orders, export Bricklink wanted lists, etc which make it much faster to use than the Bricklink website. Brickficiency is a program that takes a Bricklink wanted list or Brickstore .bsx file and scans Bricklink to find the cheapest combination of 2-5 stores to purchase the parts from. This makes it very easy to find where to purchase a list of parts from, rather than having to manually and tediously use the store list on the Bricklink Wanted list page. Hopefully this is helpful to anyone who has not heard of these programs, and if you already have, you probably know how useful they are . If it would be helpful I can write some short tips and guides on using these programs to accomplish certain tasks such as verifying completeness of a used set, identifying a used set based on a few bricks, Bricklinking a complete set from scratch, etc, or even just basic Bricklink tips and info, just let me know

  6. The movie was pretty good. I am not huge on the super heroes themes (not like I am on the most beautiful woman in the world Scarlett Johannson) but the movie was pretty good. Either way, there were quinjets galore. They did crash several of them again, but being a big part of the movie, maybe that Quinjet looks a little better (along with the Black Widow minifigure). Only bad thing is that no one ever really says its name. But its certainly more recognizable after seeing that movie.

  7. The China Bootleggers have released a 'Winter Soldier' which has a black right arm, which sells with a bootleg cyclops too. I would be very interested if Lego released Captain America in Stealth suit, along with Winter soldier.

  8. There is a new set with a light blue Captain America that was released a few months ago, and the darker version in the Avenging Cycle set. Don`t know if we`ll get any more, I`d recommend looking into customs online if you want a more accurate version.

  12. My lego store clearanced them out at $35 after Xmas and haven't seen them since. That is a nice score at $12 as the Pre Vizsla fig alone will make that back if not more. It isn't the best box to ship size wise it is like a pizza box

  15. Good job, especially for -50% monster fighters sets. Ghost train and vampyre hearse may do well. As for me I bought some more wave 4 planets (-20% RRP). The prices are rising, I felt it was now or never.

  20. There's a lot of confusion about the different statuses on Shop@Home. I made this little cheat sheet to point out the most common ones. I think I've seen "Temporarily Sold Out", but I'm not sure and couldn't find one.

  22. It takes time, sadly this forum and the LEGO investing community in general has been invaded investors seeking quick profits. They expect every set to perform like Zombie weeks after retirement, thats just not going to happen. Honestly im happy with 50-100% returns in a 1-2 year time period, thats MANY times better than any stock could do, and an insane amount compared to the 1% CDs banks are offering or the 4% i could save in interest by paying off my mortgage early.

  24. This is so funny... I am that one seller, and this all started as a simple enough question. I was experiencing some lows, so I asked if anyone else was. I never intended to imply that the sky was falling or anything like that. If anybody cares, I went away from Good 'Til Cancelled listings and back to 3-5 day sales, and my sales have rebounded just fine. I suppose I should think twice before ever starting another thread on here.

  27. So I here people mention this a lot and I totally understand - 1. Frustrated with Idiot buyers 2. TIred of going to the post office everyday. 3. Want to smash your tape dispenser 4. Done with printing labels and paying stupid USPS inflated prices. 5. Done with USPS losing packages And more and more. So I thought I would share what is helping me through this on the off chance it might help someone else. I am a candid guy - probably too open sometimes - but in January I was really really struggling with this. December burned me out some and made me realize that I was frustrating myself to much. This was complicated by the fact that I was diagnosed with Depression several years ago. I have, through medicine and being lucky to have a fairly good life, conquered it for the most part. However, when I get tremendously stressed out, frustrated, or angry it causes a relapse which is tough to deal with. So I did a couple of things to figure this out because I knew I didn't want to quit. And I hope some of these things help you guys dealing with the same stuff. Just because you love something doesn't mean that its not capable of causing you serious grief. 1. I took a break. This was imperative. Not to just give myself a little time away, but to rethink what I was doing and accomplish the rest of the points. I was always afraid to put the store on vacation because I am losing money. Its an easy thing to consider though - How much money do you lose if you have to quit because you can't handle the stress? 2. Limit the stress factors. This one is tough, but probably the second most important to breaks. I sat down and actually wrote down everything that pisses me off about selling. That in itself was stressful, but I said to myself "what do I have control over here?". One thing I did was got Ebay notifications on my phone - every sale, message, etc. The thing is, I have another job. Everytime I get a message, I would immediately look at it and answer it. I got to the point where every time I got a message, my phone would buzz and I would think "Dammit some idiot buyer is mad about something." or "USPS lost something again". Several times a day I was stressing myself through diverted attention from whatever I was actually doing. So I eliminated the notifications. Instead I set times for myself when I would check messages, sales, etc. I made a routine. I check in the morning before work and after when I get home and answer everything then. Otherwise I don't even pay attention to it. Mad buyers is another issue. I say to myself - "People will be mad - let it go". So now i just apologize and do what i can to help them. I NEVER look at my feedback rating anymore. I trust that if I do things right no one is leaving me a negative. I used to check it everyday. Not worth it. Obviously there is more here, but to be brief (lol, right?) PM me and I would be happy to tell you more stuff I changed for this. 3. Improve Efficiency Things are a lot less stressful and a things don't go wrong as much when you are efficient. I now use small bags for all my minifigures so they can't lose their weapons, etc. I bought storage units to store and separate them with labels so they are easy to fine. I bought a label printer which has been amazing. I streamlined my process of packing. I changed my opening and parting out sets routine - I only do it on the weekends so I don't do it while I am tired from my normal job. 4. Take Better Records Tax time is pretty stressful no matter what. But doing it once showed me how I need to take down documentation for the rest of the time I do this. Next years taxes will be much easier and that makes me feel a lot better about the whole ordeal. 5. Find ways to make the stressful parts more fun I hate the packing - especially if I have like 30 packages to ship. So I had to find a good way to make it so after doing it I didn't feel like I wanted to punch through a wall. I am not ashamed to say, mine is music. I am a musician and obviously love music. I found that if I am blasting Led Zeppelin during packing, I don't hate it near as much. I do not pack without music playing anymore at all. I only part out sets while watching some of my favorite shows: Seinfeld, Workaholics, Law and Order, etc. 6. Be Cleaner I absolutely believe - a cluttered work space is a cluttered mind. At work people make fun of me because my work area looks like ground zero from a zombie movie. So I have changed the way I work and the space I do it in. It is MUCH less stressful to have plenty of space and have a clean area. My solution was to put built lego sets in it. I do not clutter my lego sets. There you go people. Long-winded, but I felt like I should share it. PM me if you have anymore questions or if you are feeling done with things. I know how it goes and believe me - as much as you feel like you can handle it, that feeling is a sickness no different than working with the flu. Its just mental instead of physical.

  28. I remember someone on Eurbricks pointed out a pattern with the modulars excluding Market Street. Let's see. Cafe Corner - corner / business Green Grocer - straight / business, residential Fire Brigade - straight / government Grand Emporium - corner / business Pet Shop - straight / business, residential Town Hall - straight / government Palace Cinema - corner / business Parisian Restaurant - straight / business, residential Hmm, from the looks of the list of modulars officially designed by Lego (Market Street was by a fan), it would appear the next modular should be another straight (side) section government building. Perhaps we shall finally get that Police Precinct we all have been hoping for, eh? :derisive:

  29. i guess you could go get a good job while you go to school full time so you can keep the toys. Unless your legos are worth about 100k, then who cares. If i wanted to now i could go back and buy all of my child hood stuff many times over. I have a few sets my kids play with. These are investments now. Do what you have to to work hard, get an education with little to no debt that will enslave you and you willl be able to buy all the legos you want. My past guides decisions about the future, and should help shape our selling decisions on this website. What helped our old stuff become so valuable was time and a dwindling supply, yet people want to sell right away, or if something doesn't appreciate immediatly they think it was a bad investment. Since this is an investment website i figured i would end up talking about that aspect.
