  1. As it seems like there are some members new to the part buying aspect of Bricklink, I thought I'd share some information on programs that can make it easier. Bricklink is a great thing to have, but using it at first feels like a time machine to 15 years ago and shows you just how bad online shopping can be on an outdated website design. That said, two programs that can relieve some of the pain are Brickstore and Brickficiency. Brickstore essentially lets you manage the Bricklink database in a more powerful and easier to use way. Imagine the Bricklink parts/sets catalog combined with Excel. I primarily use it to check prices and inventory levels of parts and sets, to create wanted lists for missing parts I need or sets I'm trying to build from scratch, and to verify inventory of a Bricklink order or a used set I bought. It has the ability to import set inventories, import Bricklink orders, export Bricklink wanted lists, etc which make it much faster to use than the Bricklink website. Brickficiency is a program that takes a Bricklink wanted list or Brickstore .bsx file and scans Bricklink to find the cheapest combination of 2-5 stores to purchase the parts from. This makes it very easy to find where to purchase a list of parts from, rather than having to manually and tediously use the store list on the Bricklink Wanted list page. Hopefully this is helpful to anyone who has not heard of these programs, and if you already have, you probably know how useful they are . If it would be helpful I can write some short tips and guides on using these programs to accomplish certain tasks such as verifying completeness of a used set, identifying a used set based on a few bricks, Bricklinking a complete set from scratch, etc, or even just basic Bricklink tips and info, just let me know

  2. I see a second Black Pearl in this set. Even though it has experienced some major discounts, I can almost guarantee that people will be kicking themselves for not buying more of these. This is a very iconic place in both The Hobbit and LOTR. There are five exclusive minifigs, and with it being so iconic, I cannot see someone losing money on it.

  4. Bought a 4561 train lot on ebay that had "extras" for $102. Got an almost complete 4561. The extras were a 90% complete super chief (I had the missing pieces in my bulk) and a 10025 santa fe train car complete! Score!

  8. More proof there sometimes isn't rhyme or reason to this. I just posted less than a 1/2 hour ago about picking up some clearance Clone Troopers vs. Droidekas (75000) for $5 each at Wal-Mart in the "Buy" thread. I listed some at $16.95 as a placeholder for a possible future price point. One sold already! I do think this has the potential to be a great battle pack for resale. 2 clone troopers (one a sergeant), 2 droidekas, and a very nice mini-build with some quality pieces.

  23. There have been none in any of my local big box retailers since last summer when they first hit the $49 walmart clearance price. I bought 20 of them, but left several in a few stores and they went fast. Once it is officially gone, people will wish they bought one when they were cheap. I just put one together from a bulk lot, and really enjoyed the build (I have it available for sale right now for $45 BIN). It displays nicely too. I think it will do well. 24. Use the wanted lists, then search "wanted lists" by store then filter by unique parts. You'll still have to most likely put in multiple orders...but this will cut down on how many? Another strategy is if you have a unique or expensive part, to search your wanted list by that cheapest price for it, ten adding what else you can. Last suggestion: at first, I felt the need to "complete sets" as fast as I could - which led to multiple orders. Now I know that, unless I "need" a part to sell a complete set, I can let my wanted lists grow large because it cuts down on sending multiple orders. It's great once you get used to it....and I've ordered internationally with no problems! /Matt

  25. Am pretty sure it would be easier for you to make a wanted list of your needed parts. I think you can then compare the different stores that have them or also perhaps be able to see which stores have the majority of your wanted parts. It's not designed to make buyers be forced to buy from multiple sellers, but there's thousands of sellers with different quantity and pricing. Try to find the majority in the least amount of stores and that will lower the shipping costs involved.

  26. Hello... Jeff and I just added two new forum categories...Bricklink Marketplace and Non-LEGO Deals. The Bricklink section can be used to discuss buying and selling techniques and ideas based on the Bricklink site. Please do not promote your Bricklink stores here. The Non-LEGO Deals will work like the LEGO Daily Deals page. Members can post great deals on NON-LEGO related items like toys, collectibles and electronics that they want to share with other members. Jeff and I are going to monitor the activity on these two sections to gauge interest for our upcoming DAILY DEALS 2.0 and Brick Classifieds and decide whether or not we will incorporate these ideas into one or the other. Any questions, feel free to ask... Ed

  27. Our friend Grolim wrote an article on this subject: http://blog.brickpicker.com/comparing-lego-retail-purchase-prices-across-regions/ Tax differences can explain something like a 15-20% price differences. As you can see, some themes, particularly the licensed ones, go beyond that. Whether that is because of some legal reason, or it's just Lego's strategy, I don't know. Or maybe they produce these themes in their factory in Mexico and it's the transportation costs. I will say that sometimes the difference is just ridiculous. The Lone Ranger Stagecoach Escape for example was $30 and

  35. Yeah...if they give a decent sale...that would be great. There are those that know more than me on the success of the set....but if I had to bet on a particular set that they would 30-50% off for May 4th....I'd go with the Red 5 UCS. Death Star and SSD are too expensive. Sand Crawler and Ewok Village are too new. If the sales of 10240 have been down over the past year.....I imagine they want to clear that one out.

  38. Classic Space is awesome and timeless. Glad it is getting some love with Benny's Spaceship. There was something just so timeless about classic space. Yes the designs were simple and the minifigures were plain. But it is almost like they did just enough so that the imagination could do the rest. Take for example the most iconic set of the theme, the 497 Galaxy Explorer. Just the most impressive box art. Just some Lego men quietly working on a strange planet under an intense alien sun. While overhead the sleek Galaxy Explorer glides effortlessly towards an alien sun through the cold mute expanse of space. A universe of possibility and adventure await. This is why the theme has endured the decades and has such a cult status. Classic Space was the genesis that spawned the golden age of LEGO space. One of the best things was that it wasn't simple good guys Vs. bad guys like today. You had all these factions, each with their own drives and objectives. From the nomadic foragers of M-Tron to the galactic peacekeepers of Space Police to the quiet researchers of Ice Planet 2002. Each was unique. Some of the greats of space came out in this period. The 6941 Battrax, the 6990 Monorail (and its brother the Unitron Monorail base), the 6989 Mega Core Magnetizer, the 6988 Alpha Centauri Outpost. The list goes on and on! (BTW I just noticed the Blacktron guy in the background getting booted into a cell ) Sadly, in the late '90's. LEGO space went into a decline. While UFO, Roboforce and Insectoids were not bad by a long shot. They just seemed to lose something. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the sets just seemed to get too busy and lacked some intangible quality that the previous years had given us. Then in 1999 LEGO Star Wars appeared and put the final nails in the coffin of Space. Not that I am hating on Star Wars, the sets are great (until they went overboard with all the non-original trilogy stuff) and they saved LEGO from the chopping block but something dear was lost with LEGO space. Subsequent space themes have just been so forgettable. Mars mission tried admirably and Space Police III was just awful. Galaxy Squad has some awesome sets, several of which have earned places next to my Space sets. But again it just seems like the harder LEGO reach for the magic of Classic Space the more it slips away. Now this August we finally get a proper tribute to the proud lineage of Classic Space in the form of Benny's Spaceship. It is not perfect, but it does very well. And I have to say that the August release can't come soon enough. It also fills me with hope for the future of LEGO Space. /steps off the soapbox

  39. It's definitely this design drawing I received at SDCC 2012. Behind the Bizarro minifigure I won in the raffle was a sticker and when I went to claim my prize they were handing these out. I have seen the one with Superman/Lex Luthor/Wonder Woman and a couple of the Avengers ones on ebay. This one is just awesome because I love Batman and it's actually pictured in the LEGO DC/Batman book by DK. Pretty cool:
