  3. For all you Game of Thrones fans, citizen brick has just released a new set of custom minifigs based on the series. Check them out here: http://citizenbrick.com/collections/minifigs/products/dragon-sword-fighter-force-complete-series-plus-bonus-minifig Pretty awesomely detailed (as usual from these guys). My favs would be the White Walker, Tyrion, and Khal Drogo. I'm very tempted to get them, but $220 is a bit much for me to outlay at present on personal purchases. Sweet GRRM bonus fig as well.

  7. Sure, I grew up on Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets, but while I would make LEGO sets based on those types of shows, my son is ripping the arms off of Power Ranger dolls that he makes scream in agony. LOL

  8. The minifig shelf is coming along nicely! We are picking it up this Friday. Guys - great thoughts and ideas on how we can continue to give. The outpouring of support for Gavin has been inspirational for many of us. I think it would be awesome if we could extend that to other youngsters battling an illness.

  9. We have a pretty large storage area in our basement. If I ever filled it up, I would be in big trouble. As for my son's LEGO tables, they are full and we need to put something away, soon. I'm the father from "The LEGO Movie" and I won't let my son have his LEGO stuff in his room full-time. We have a whole separate area, so the sets don't get mixed in with his other toys.

  11. Take a look at the set online. Note special/rare pieces and all minifigs that way you can easily see that it is mostly there. It is very probable that a few pieces are missing despite what people say. But a few common pieces are easily replaced. I always pick a few random pieces out to check for mega blocks (not too much of a worry on a single large set) also check condition. Bite marks, play wear, sticky residue etc etc. This will give you a very good idea how cared for the set was. The better the condition the more likely it is complete and a good buy. Besides that be friendly and don't be afraid to punch out if something isn't right or the set turns out to be a basket case.

  24. The issue is looking at a storage unit as an investment. It's not, it's an expense against income. If one buys and sells LEGO (or potatoes, or harnesses for pet donkeys...) one will have expenses related to that. Some of these expenses will make sense when looking at the bottom line, some will not. Expansion costs money in any business, whether you're expanding by having a larger house or an off-site storage unit. Storage is one of the smallest expenses on my spreadsheet each month, and one of the biggest benefits.

  26. What digs deeply into profits (or your personal financial situation) is having a 5 bedroom house with a basement when you don't need the space. You're paying for a "storage unit" with every extra bedroom, at a premium cost (or, if the house is paid off, you're losing out on investing elsewhere, at a higher rate of return, the money you spent on the too-big house). Move to a smaller place and you'll make up the difference for several storage units in property taxes, utilities, upkeep... Storage units are cheaper, and simply a cost of doing business, like bubblewrap and coffee filters. I don't know if I'd classify our disposable income as "large" (to some it would be, to others not), but I tell every penny of it where to go and what to do when it gets there (yes, I'm just as bossy with my money as I am with everything else ) and our storage unit is a pretty small blip on our business expense radar each month.

  28. The only way Revan will be the same value as last year's Han is if they produce way more Revans and include him with other promos. A truly unique character doesn't compare to a common character with a hood on.

  31. Just ordered a Parisian Restaurant with double VIP points for my own collection. Hopefully I'll get it in a few days and build it this weekend. And, a Lego Movie Creative Ambush. Kind of hoped I'd be able to get this set at a bigger discount, but it's not being sold by regular stores or Amazon in Europe as far as I can tell. 32. I don't use the cost slot, but for purposes of tracking my inventory for tax returns I simply add up the totals of all the sets I bought during the year, and average a cost-per-part from that. For pick a brick wall purchases I could actually come up with a specific cost per part, but since those are a very small amount of my parts purchases it doesn't seem worth it, the cost averaging works well and is very quick, and is fair to both me and the IRS.

  34. All business owners risk loss from theft. If you were running a brick and mortar, you'd have shoplifters. You protect yourself as best you can, and you build a certain amount of loss into your business expense projections. Most problems aren't scams. eBay and PayPal protect against some of the worst of these, but in a case like this, eBay and PayPal will both side with the buyer, who is probably telling the truth. For a high value item, you (the seller) insure it against loss or damage.

Trying to drum up early sales? I want at least one darth for me ****** the kids. But i dont see multiples coming like magic martian man last month.

  39. Even though I would be disappointed if that was the case, that would be a great set to flip. I do not think that this will happen, though. Usually LEGO does not put a small set on a store calendar and say "WOOT WOOT - Look at our new small set!" as if it were a momentous occasion. More than likely, the set will be $100 dollar plus.

  41. It really depends on the manager you end up dealing with. I clearly got someone who was visibly irritated dealing with my request and went above and beyond trying to NOT offer decent customer service. I thought of asking for her name and sending an email to TRU corporate. I bet I could have came the next day and seeked out a different acting manager and probably would have got the price match.

  42. I got the same excuse saying it was LEGO.COM even though I showed them it was LEGO.COM.ca-en. The manager refused to believe it was the Canadian site even with the CDN price and little maple leaf staring back at her. So then I pulled out a receipt from another TRUs that honored a price match a few days before on the exact same item I was after and the manager said the first store was wrong to do that. So I pulled out a 2nd receipt from ANOTHER TRUs store showing the same price match. The manager refused to budge and said the other stores were breaking TRUs policy and she will get to the bottom of it. At that point I laughed at her and said 'You do that!' and walked away from a stack of of about $200 worth of Technic she didn't really want to sell.

  44. I`ll usually buy a day or 2 before the sale starts, just to guarantee that I have what I want, then bring the receipt back sometime during the sale and get it adjusted. I`ve done it literally for several years now at various retailers and no issues, and that way there is no rushing to get the set(s) you want and no chance of missing out

  45. I love what I bought today from a thrift store. A bag of random building pieces that turned out to be 3 LEGO sets from Pirates of the Caribbean, all 99% complete with all minifigs and accessories. 4195 Queen Anne's Revenge, 4181 Isla de la Muerta and 4191 Captain's Cabin. All for $15.

  47. I may have discovered a little trick to get free shipping with London Drugs! I created an account and placed an order some 10 days ago. I went back to the website 3 days ago, trying to fill up a cart, but there wasn't enough stock so I left with various items still in the cart. The next day, I received an email reminder that I had left items in my cart (and didn't pay attention to it). Then, 3 days later, I received another reminder that offered a code for free shipping so that I could get the items left in the cart on their way. It's really not worth much, but feel free to try it .

  48. I think that all of the comments so far have ignored the fact that the Helicarrier Breakout set is a tie-in with the first Avengers movie. The first Avengers movie has taken all kinds of records for the gross it took in, and is in IMDB's top 250 movies of all time. The movie was HUGE and I expect any lego and toy product in general will be in demand for the foreseeable future, especially when the second movie is released and brings in MORE fans who would want memorabilia from the first film to complete their Avengers movie collections. What is the tie-in for the new Hulk set? Is it based on an animated TV show or is it a scene from a comic book? Personally, I would much rather have an Avengers movie tie-in product than a generic-cartoon tie-in any day. So, I would say that the Helicarrier Breakout along with all of the currently retiring Avengers movie Lego sets will be investment winners and will plateau in 2015 when Age of Ultron is released.

  49. This is getting kind of sick. Many of you go and clean out stores without thinking twice about what you're doing, but when you're on the outside looking in, you complain. Enough is never enough, and when you have it all, you still want more. Instead of thinking of others, you only think about yourselves. It seems like you get the thought in your heads that only resellers are buying LEGO or looking for the next deal, and 'if I don't buy all of them, another reseller will!'. Exercise some restraint and leave some for others. You don't need everything. Some non-resellers are actually looking to purchase a set when a sale arises. I'm all for getting a deal on LEGO, but at the same time, I know I'm not the only person who should benefit.
