Thanks for sharing. I am about 75% done with my Grand Carousel project. I am using the large gray baseplate ($15 at Lego store) instead of green. I don't plan on getting sound brick since the current price is just too insane, and besides, I am still dreaming some day someone will come up a cheap programmable sound brick where I could load up my own music onto it (I think I remember someone posted a project on CUSSOO site). I still don't have the white canopies yet. I don't think I will ever drop a few hundreds just for a few pieces of paper. I am going to try out different types of paper and fabric to see how thing turns out. Hoping to finish the project in the next couple of days. I will post some pictures when I am done.

You can still find it under retail prices on bricklink, and I've still seen some on the shelf at stores like kmart. I don't think it's a good investment unless you got in really cheap, like 50% off or more. This set is incredibly overpriced at retail.

I know I've only been here a month or two but boy I am getting tired of people crying about their sets not increasing. I mean I've been there. Last week on impulse I picked up nine 6166 for $20 each and I don't have a bite yet. Maybe I should have only got four instead of nine but I'll move forward and learn from it. Before I learned of brickpicker I picked up quite a few 70808 at a good discount, then I found this site, sold half at a loss of about $3 each and took that money, bought exclusives, and never looked back. As my First Sergeant in the Army used to say, if there's one thing I hate it's watching a grown man cry. As for Helm's Deep, I don't own any but I'm about to. Did some research, made some phone calls, and guess what, when I come back from some family business I'm going to pick up 3-5 and with at least a discount of 30% off. I wasn't around here during the holidays but I'm hoping everybody bought these LOTR sets at deep discounts so even if you are having doubts, you can at least hock it on ebay and get your money back at MSRP. Have confidence in your decision making and adjust fire if you need to.

Nothing is dumber in currency then those 1 dollar coins though. I remember seeing a report how there are millions of dollars worth in a vault. We continue to make them. Was on a fix news waste watch thing.

So I've noticed recently that LEGO has been making several changes. Some may be good, some may be bad, but they don't exactly hurt us as investors, except for maybe #3 which is could technically. But let me know if you have some more to add to the list, or is it just me that these things are happening? 1) Condensed boxes. It seems like that the most recent sets I got were almost bigger. This may be because the boxes themselves were smaller to actually fit the set better. I'm not POSITIVE, but I am pretty sure that boxes for most sets (except for battlepacks or $13 sets) have gotten smaller and are a better fit with the set you buy. A couple years ago, I remember buying a $30 Star Wars set and the box was huge! I don't remember which one, but I remember it felt smaller than I was expecting because of the size of the box. A week ago, I picked up the new General Grievous Wheel Bike for $25, but the box seemed so much smaller, and same thing for the Batman: Riddler Chase set (which I got at the same time). You can tell just buy swooshing the boxes around (sealed of course), that it's harder to hear the pieces floating around in there, because it's more condensed. 2) HIGHLY detailed figures. We all like minifigures and I think most of us appreciate authenticity, but it just might be getting out of hand. The new Luke Skywalker that comes with the Sand Crawler will have Mark Hamil's mole (beauty mark etc., someone correct me if my terminology is wrong) on his face. A MOLE! I don't really know if this is a good thing or not. I appreciate authenticity, but that seems really odd to me. And the new Darth Vader and Obi-Wan in the Summer 2014 wave will have printed on cloaks. Vader gets a cape (because he actually wears one, I guess), but all of Obi-Wan's garments are screen-printed. I DON'T like that in the LEAST. 3) Separation of Figs and Set In case you were wondering, that was supposed to be sort of a pun like "Separation of Church and State" (not to get political, but as a joke, but I went to the dentist and got nova cane, so none of this may make any sense...). Anyways, the sets are separated in numbered bags to make building simpler, which as a collector I like, and the figures are also separated in said bags. I appreciate this, as a teen who still plays with LEGO. It adds more anticipation in building the next part, rather than wanting to use the minifigs for hours and THEN build the set. But as a parter-outer, which some of you are, but I am not, it makes selling minifigs apart from sets difficult since you have to open 2, 3, or 4 bags to get 1 or 2 figures. It does help with selling the model parts though, since having a dozen bags all opened at once to build a tiny section is time consuming. 4) DC Comics (no longer DC Universe as it was in 2012-13) Overall, I appreciate this because I am a huge DC fan and comic reader. I don't read EVERY comic, but I read the biggest story arcs and know several characters (including the Martian Manhunter which has caused some stir in the investing world). Many characters have been given interesting looks that some did not expect, such as the Flash. His design is somewhat based on the New 52 (which is DC's relaunch of comic books, negating some things that happened in original comics, and starting fresh). If it wasn't, he would probably have been given the same helmet as in the LEGO Batman 2: The Videogame. Other characters with a New 52 look include: Martian Manhunter, Nightwing, Damian Wayne Robin, Batgirl, and (sort-of but not quite) SDCC Green Arrow. This is probably an effort of WB to streamline the New 52 into all aspects of DC, which now includes LEGO sets/minifigures. 5) Chinese Manufactured Parts I am not talking about the fake figures you see going for $0.03 on eBay, I am referring to LEGO approved parts that are not exactly the quality standard of normal Denmark manufactured LEGO. Some have wondered how to identify for sure if it was manufactured in China or not. Apart from just noticing look and feel differences, there's some branding you can look for. As seen in picture 1, I have compared 2 new, recently unpackaged and built, DC Super Heroes 2014 minifigures, Batman and Martian Manhunter. Manhunter is the Chinese manufactured figure. In picture 2, compare the right arms of the figures. On Batman, you can see the first thing very close to his hand is a number (not sure what the number means exactly), and then the word LEGO. On Martian Manhunter, you can see closer to his armpit (I don't know what it's called...arm pin maybe?) there is an indentation with a number. I didn't want to remove the arm in the event I might damage the torso. In picture 3, the legs of Batman feature the LEGO branding and numbers. Manhunter's legs do not. That is summary is how to identify a Chinese manufactured minifigure. So is it just me? Did you catch any of those before? Learn something new? I want to hear anything you noticed happening in recent years of LEGO history.

Now all the "sales" at TRU will bring down all the price to regular retail! Because most of us read about this a lot of times in the past.

If you're in the position to stock up from a financial and storage standpoint, there really isn't a bad time to pick up any exclusive, including Arkham. Double VIP points is going to be the best discount you can get on them, which starts tomorrow. Myself, i'm a smaller investor/collector and can't afford to have my money tied up in a set like this for a long time, and I don't have the space to store it, so I'm going to take my chances and pick some up when it gets closer to it's "expected" retirement. Most of these exclusives seem to be around for at least 3 years, sometimes more (see Live Star). Arkham isn't going anywhere for a few years, so plan accordingly according to your own investment strategy.

It`s highly unlikely that a set like this will retire anytime soon, that`s making an educated prediction based on the life cycle of other set. jaisonline pretty much has got it, and I 100% agree Although like others hae said, it never hurts to stock up early if you can afford to. That`s about it!

It debuted in early Jan 2013. It will be around in 2014 and 2015. while i have zero inside knowledge, i would bet this set is easily on a 24 to 30 month cycle. it's way too popular like the batcave.

Lol, yeah, it just goes to show that George Lucas knew precisely what he was doing when making this film, since my 7 year old son loved Jar Jar Binks and Episode 1 overall. His next favorite is Episode 4 thankfully, which is mine also. His least favorite was Episode 3 and most particularly the last hour or so, the final decline of Anakin to become Darth Vader was quite something to bear for a young kid and my son's words were: I'm so sad for Anakin and how Palpatine tricked him to join the dark side, it's just so sad" I could not agree more, the lesson learned here folks: choose your friends carefully because they can lead you down a very dark path

Since double points will not run out, and I do not expect any of the exclusives to become unavailable to at least order or add to bag I see no need to rush the order. I guess there is the off chance that LEGO puts something on 50-80% off. I will most likely place my order on the 14th or 15th. I do plan on using the points I earn on this run to get 5-7 R2-D2 in may for the exclusive minifig. That one I will jump on first thing with 5-7 separate orders.

I sold my set of Four 2012 SDCC super hero mini figs (Bizarro, Phoenix, Black Spiderman, Shazam) in return for $550 plus 60 x Martian Manhunter Polybags. I was worried about the fakes from China bringing down the value of the SDCC figs. I know you could say the same for the martian manhunters, but at least the polybags are sealed and obvious that they are legit.

Dolphin Cruise and Daily Bugle from Kmart. I paid $51 total after cashing in points and gift card. Plus used a coupon and got $20 in points for my next order. I really hate dealing with Kmart but with insane deals like this it makes it tough to pass up.

The price point for the Gungan Sub 9499 was the problem. But the spaceship design is beautiful and the color are great too. Also, the minifig detail are great either. I buy this set because I like to look at it, even if for investment it's not gonna be a winner, unless if you're patient and wait couple of years...

If your kid doesn't care about queen amidala, then sell her on ebay, she has a great value (about 30$) so overall it will be a great discount for this set and your kid will still have the vessel and jar jar. edit: BTW if I'm right queen amidala doesn't fit inside the vehicule (large dress) so it's another reason to get rid off her (gently 'cause we're talking about a lady, m'kay ?)

you can get Gundam sub at chapters Indigo for 20% off now if you really need/want it. of course it's been cheaper before at Sears and other retailers. for investment purposes I don't think this set is hot at all... but to build/collect is another story. I only have 2 in my inventory, the Queen is the most valuable fig for sure.

The first one did decent....I sold a couple last year for around 110.00 I don't think the new one will be a big winner as far as the secondary market is concerned but like you mentioned the queen amidala minifig is pretty cool.

It was a tax free kind of weekend in Oregon and that is always a plus. 2 SSD for $403 CDN so $355usd. It helped exchanging Canadian money at par earlier this week. 1 PS Ghost train used for $35 on CL. Camper van for $90, also on CL. my girlfriend spent Saturdqy evening trying to get it autographed. Lastly, on Sunday - we stopped at a Kmart in WA and saw a rack of stagecoaches at $30 with no discount tags. They ring up at $15.40 each then I have surprise points and bonus points from previous excursions so each of my coaches ended up at $8.30 after tax and silly K-mart gave me another $10 in bonus points. It feels like stealing... or a birthday gift from Kmart every month. I left 5 there if you a PNW buyer (ask, I am sleepy). This Kmart also has 2 rancor pits at 25% off. Ex astris, scientia.

Finished Temple of Doom earlier in the week - sweet set that needs a decent amount of shelf real estate to display. In the middle of R2D2 - what a great build. IMO, every Lego SW collector needs to own this set. My only complaint is that it's a bit pricey for the final size of the model.

I open all the bags and give the minifigures to my son to build and lose the guns, tools, helmets, ect. Then I dump the bags and organize by color. I start handing pieces to my daughter 1 or two direction numbers ahead of where she is. While she is building, I sort the pieces further by shape and size. I try to fit all the same type of pieces together so they don't get lost when my son is done building the minifigures. When I am several steps ahead of my daughter, and all the bricks are organized, I start helping my son find the lost pieces. When building alone, I do pretty much the same thing, only I work bag by bag and have several glasses of scotch.

I like it. Just some little critiques, hopefully constructive: At first, the interruptions from stop-motion to real-time where you're showing something adjusting or moving was kind of blah -- but by time you were done I was actually looking forward to them as something to break up the video a little. Watching it a second time they didn't bother me a bit, good call on those. I think it could use a little bit brighter lighting -- some of the build footage is well lit, some of it is a bit darker -- don't want so much light that it washes out colors and eliminates all the shadows, but just a touch more light would be nice. It's been a while since I've done photography, but if there's any way to increase the depth of field on the focus a little, that would help. -- Keep'm coming!

The stop-motion build progress was certainly nice to watch. I think if the clicking noise either was randomly pitched so that it did not sound exactly the same every time or the same as the sound effects they use for the Lego video games when putting something together, it would be less grating on the auditory nerves. My favorite part was the end honestly. :)

The real question is who will retire first - TRU or the Death Star?
