  1. Well, this is a first after lurking on the forums. The popularity of this character is based on the fact that the story of the KoToR games are actually on par with the OT, I would say they are even better. They are more mature and aimed at an adult fan base, too bad the 2nd installment was released in a crippled state (fans had to finish it) due to LucasArts's push which eventually killed off the series. So my verdict is that this figure shouldn't be put in the same category as lame prequels, cartoons and obscure comics. This game has actually a huge fan base with pleasant memories. I understand your prejudice against non-OT SW material as they are really silly most of the times, but I would advise you to make an exception and try this game if you can spare some time, you will be surprised how good the immersion is and how well the characters are written. I will just include a video about my favorite character (though this is a dialogue from KoToR 2, but he is the same in the first game). He is the proof that droids can actually be made hilarious without being annoying (I am talking about you C3-PO and R2...):

  2. People seem to be wanting instant returns again as soon as a set goes EOL. It could take a few years to see a decent return. Just because the FB doubled in a month does not mean the LOTR range will also. As Allen says..... Patience Also HD is already above its UK RRP.

  3. I believe the key to LOTR is patience. I'll admit that I'm pretty biased with the theme especially wave 1, here's why: 1.Relatively short run incensed set that won't seem to go on forever like Star Wars. 2. BP, no not brick picker... BEST PICTURE! It might sound silly, but I believe there is massive potential for these sets based on it's cinematic merit. HP is a bestseller, so is LOTR. Star wars has a ridiculous fan base, LOTR has a respectable following (not as crazy as SW, but respectable) How many sets can boast that their theme won an astounding 11 academy awards including best picture? Only LOTR. LOTR will undeniably go down in history as a 'classic'.

  5. So I thought I would try and start a thread for settings for label printers people use - how to set them up and how to get started. A mod can add if others have settings and other Label printers people can use. Dymp 450/Dymo 400/ Turbos There are two parts. When you go to print the labels (like when you are purchasing them - if you already did, you have to void and start over - extremely stupid) click on the "printer and label receipt preferences". You want to go down to "Supported Label Printers" and then select Dymo Labelwriter 400 2.4x7. The second part is in the actual dymo printing preferences inside your PC. If you have a Windows OC, just go to "Devices and Printers" in the control panel. IN there, right click on the printer and click "printer preferences". On the first tab "General", click "preferences". On the next pop up, click "advanced". You will see a folder list-type of window. Click on the first + "paper/output" and then set it to 99019 Large Lever Arch.

  6. If they stick to the rule of Star Wars purchases it's hard to imagine paying msrp for most of these sets to make getting the figure cost effective unless it there are sets discounted as others have optimistically mentioned. This may be a figure I end up buying on the aftermarket. That would be a first.

  7. Ebay used to be a goldmine for these, but they have dried up a bit and prices have risen since so many more folks are looking for them and know what to look for. Check your local craigslist as well as deals can be had, just have to be patient and wait for the right ones. Don't just buy 30lbs of bulk for the hell of it, make sure it is going to be worth your while. I've done well in both arenas, but usually only grab one every several months or so to keep my wife from strangling me.

  8. I`ll usually buy a day or 2 before the sale starts, just to guarantee that I have what I want, then bring the receipt back sometime during the sale and get it adjusted. I`ve done it literally for several years now at various retailers and no issues, and that way there is no rushing to get the set(s) you want and no chance of missing out

  14. I open all the bags and give the minifigures to my son to build and lose the guns, tools, helmets, ect. Then I dump the bags and organize by color. I start handing pieces to my daughter 1 or two direction numbers ahead of where she is. While she is building, I sort the pieces further by shape and size. I try to fit all the same type of pieces together so they don't get lost when my son is done building the minifigures. When I am several steps ahead of my daughter, and all the bricks are organized, I start helping my son find the lost pieces. When building alone, I do pretty much the same thing, only I work bag by bag and have several glasses of scotch.

  16. Just go through the instructions, if you can see most pieces in the bags it's complete. It looks complete to me, you have a bag of smll pieces, all large pieces are there, there's a bag of plates etc.
    1 point
  17. Count the pieces, if you're carefull you can do it without opening the bags. I'm not sure if sets from that era show a parts list in the instructions, if it does make a photocopy and check off as you go.

  22. Most people comparing the numbers are comparing first class international shipping rates, which is not accurate since GSP uses priority shipping speeds. However, as for downside to sellers, there is none for sellers who do not want to handle their own international shipping (and there are many such sellers, the program is hugely popular amongst US sellers who would not otherwise ship internationally). Those sellers are not losing a single sale - every sale they get through GSP is a bonus for them, since they are able to offer international shipping at only domestic risk to them. Again, not trying to talk any international buyer who doesn't like the program into using it, but there are very good, very valid reasons for some US sellers to consider using the program.

  23. To all the Darth Revan naysayers, He only has 1 Star Wars figure ever and it is extremely popular. It currently sells for $100+ on Amazon on a regular basis and between $50-$90 on ebay based on condition, timing, etc. This is, basically, the most expensive non-variant/error single carded figure in the entirety of the almost 20 year run of figures.

  26. 79121 (turtle sub undersea) will do well, because the croco-bad-guy (leatherhead) looks fantastic. I would not be surprised if 1 year after EOL this minifig will be sold 20$ on ebay. Plus, the vehicule is cool looking, it can open, and has nice pieces (shell's scales). 60$ RRp is ok, it will be easy to get some at 40/50$. It may take some time but I think it can do very well, mainly thanks to leatherhead. BTW I wouldn't be surprised if lego uses this mold for Croc (batman). If not and if it stays exclusive to this set, it could do even better than expected... I'll definitely take some of this set. And maybe the van, too (far better looking than the previous one).

  27. I got the same excuse saying it was LEGO.COM even though I showed them it was LEGO.COM.ca-en. The manager refused to believe it was the Canadian site even with the CDN price and little maple leaf staring back at her. So then I pulled out a receipt from another TRUs that honored a price match a few days before on the exact same item I was after and the manager said the first store was wrong to do that. So I pulled out a 2nd receipt from ANOTHER TRUs store showing the same price match. The manager refused to budge and said the other stores were breaking TRUs policy and she will get to the bottom of it. At that point I laughed at her and said 'You do that!' and walked away from a stack of of about $200 worth of Technic she didn't really want to sell.

  29. 1. Is it just a coincidence that only UK folks are down on the LotR sets? Maybe the theme is just not for the UK or EU market. 2. Can we have some patience here? I dont have a lot of experience but a winner set doesn't always mean it will skyrocket within a few months after EOL. Lego collectors are not stupid. They look for ways to buy the sets they love for cheap. Give some time for new collectors to develop their interest. By the meantime you earn your profit by outpatient other sellers willing to sell for low. 3. Do you really expect a big secondary market price increase when lots of potential buyers are recovering from post holiday stress syndrome?

  31. I think this might be the canary in the coal mine, so to speak - the first waves were still around at retail (for sure online) long after the USA Today article and I think are a key indicator of what post EOL themes might be like in the future (unless they are less than 18 months at retail). Since so many got in so low (well below MSRP) I'm not actually that shocked they haven't skyrocketed yet. I still think growth will be decent by Oct. - Nov. this year, but not like the growth we've seen with past sets/themes.

  35. There is an easier way to do it - its difficult to get used to but here goes: First, add all the parts you need to a wanted list. You to go to "Wanted list" and then put in the part number and select the color, number of them you need, new/used, etc (I always unclick the stupid email thing) and hit "add". Once you have added all your parts, there is a tab in the wanted list section called "show by in-store count". Go to that and arrange it by "unique lots". This now shows you the sellers with the most different parts from your wanted list. Clock on their store and it should show you all the parts they have you need. Click the button that says "auto-fill cart" in the top right corner and it will add all those parts to your cart. Once you buy them, remove them from the wanted list and start the process over again until you have them all. Obviously when you buy you want to look at minimums and shipping and where they are at. Usually it takes me 2 stores or so to do 20-30 parts so its not too bad.

  36. I also think it is weird having her in both toy related films. Sure, April's original yellow jumpsuit was hardly practical or an outfit somebody in real life would possibly wear but one thing for certain, she was a redhead which is something that Megan is quite obviously lacking (for starters). Then again, maybe some women could pull off the yellow jumpsuit look in real life.

  37. It is a post like this which sums up my feelings on this subject and why this site was developed. There are plenty of untapped markets and sets for the LEGO investing party to continue. For those "old timers" who were spoiled by 100%+++ returns in less than a year, sorry that Jeff and I pooped on your parade. Adapt or die. The incessant complaining about the good old days and how BrickPicker ruined the market is growing tiresome. Obviously, the value of many sets continues to climb. Maybe all of you anti-BrickPicker types are choosing the wrong sets to sell. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  38. If you want to see a set that has really stalled take a look at Diagon Alley. Back in 2012 it was thought of as one of the best sets you could pick up for investing. In the last 6 months it has seen only 3.8% growth and only 62% growth over retail. As for lower sales part of that has to do with the time of year. March, April and May are always slow. But also the number of resellers is really starting to show. Just a year or two ago a set on Amazon would have maybe a dozen or couple dozen 3rd party listings. Now many sets have hundreds of other resellers. I've pointed this out before but no one really seems too concerned or responds to it much. If you look at the BP home page in the footer you will see some site stats. I have been keeping track of these for a while now. Here is one stat that really has me thinking there are too many investors buying very large amounts. January 31, 2014 Total current value of member Brickfolios: $ 8,537,670.56 February 8, 2014 Total current value of member Brickfolios: $ 10,497,434.00 February 26, 2014 Total current value of member Brickfolios: $ 14,688,530.08 March 19, 2014 Total current value of member Brickfolios: $ 16,999,452.07 March 25, 2014 Total current value of member Brickfolios: $ 17,317,887.53 As you can see in less than 2 months we have added well over $8 million dollars in inventory to our brickfolios. Of course some of this increase is due to our brickfolios increasing in value but that is only calculated once a month. When you see millions of dollars added every couple of weeks it gets a little scary.

  39. It is interesting how most newer sellers seem to believe that nothing is wrong, yet long time sellers (Pre Brickpicker) are convinced of the opposite. You would not believe how much things have changed (Thanks BP) - The fact that anyone can say that there are not too many sellers is just crazy.

  40. We were all newbies once, I never said all newbies won't be able to make money, just said that MANY of them will be weeded out, not all of them. Being a newbie now is a lot different than being a newbie 4 or 5 years ago. Years ago there was way less competition and a lot more room for error.

  44. It took me a whole lot of planning as well as an understanding of the full sized modular houses but I finally managed to come up with a design utilizing only the pieces included with the three Log Cabin sets I purchased. As it currently stands, it is not a true modular design. However, that can easily be remedied by placing this build across a 16x32 baseplate and inserting four 1x2 bricks with the Technic pin hole in the proper spots but of course that would have used parts not included in the original set(s) itself so they were omitted for this personal challenge of my own design. I was lucky there were just enough tiles to cover the floor and furniture of which I really wanted to accomplish. Stiil I wish I could have come up with some decent foliage for the back garden area that looked nice in the way I wanted but that is a minor quibble I can always iron out later. It is difficult to tell from the angle showing the inside but there is a chicken leg roasting in the fireplace. Anyway, I am quite pleased with the results and it was a fun exercise working within boundries. This has now become a new thing for myself where I plan to buy around three give or take of every Creator house from this point forward to then 'modularize' it like so to fit within my own original cityscape. (I used some of my storage drawers for a makeshift photo shoot area.) Please share any comments, opinions, critiques, and/or questions you may have for my TOK MOC. Note: The images are large in size therefore it may take a while to load all nine of them.

  45. I do not return sets for a discount. In a case of buying a set(or any item) from a retailer and the set goes on sale shortly thereafter, I will contact that retailer for a refund. 99% of the time, the retailer will refund the difference. If you are desperate enough to work the system by buying sets at KMart or TRU and returning them at a LEGO store, then this site is not for you. That is one of the reasons resellers and investors are getting a bad reputation. I have to believe though that these retailers need to be more proactive in the returns department. Target restricts returns without a receipt to a few returns. It is a good policy. On a personal note, my wife thought she was doing a good thing and bought me a Prince of Persia set at 50% off at Marshalls. She did not see the tape over the seals. The set was missing the minifigures. Damn crooked reselling return thieves!!!
