  1. Deals at TRU have been amazing for several months now. People complaining about TRU prices are you forgetting: - $25 hobbit barrel escape (and then tack on $20 off 100, or $10 gift card when you spend 50?) - Baxter's revenge (and then tack on $20 off 100, or $10 gift card when you spend 50?) - Y-Wing on clearance - Palatine's arrest down to 60 - Technic sets for 20% off - FREE $60 Highway pickup when you buy a hard to find exclusive set (some as cheap as 119.99) over the holidays, And many more including the wendy's gift card 10 after 40 spend, several bogo 50's, etc. If TRU goes away, other stores wont just get all those exclusives. We LOSE a company that pays to get those exclusives. They just wont be made. How many times have you seen a set online, not quite sure how you feel about it, but when you find it in store on the shelf, you get a real feel for what the set is. perhaps they even have an awesome display that gives you the sense of scale and what you're actually getting in the box. Can you always find what you're looking for at Walmart, Target, etc? Do they often have barren shelves, messy shelves, items all over the place? You can almost always find what you're looking for at TRU. yes because their prices are higher if you're an impatient buyer, but its there. If TRU wants to try to get 500 for a death star or 530 for a Super Star Destroyer for a few months (or maybe even just weeks),,,,,,,,,,THAT"S GREAT. Take a break and don't buy from them this month, Enjoy the potential expansion of price on Death Stars so that folks won't be so freaked out when they eventually hit 600 and 700 on amazon (if they ever retire). The patient and educated buyer should WELCOME others in the same market getting higher prices for their goods ESPECIALLY if you ever want the value of your goods to increase. TRU hate is misguided, and you'll be sorry when they're gone.

  9. There are well over 25,000 members right now and most are not heavy duty resellers, or even resellers at all. Most are just fans that want to know what their sets are worth and where to find good deals on LEGO sets. There is a ton of activity behind the scenes between members, so the Classifieds will just help expedite that. We realize that the Classifieds are not going to work for sellers that take advantage of uninformed eBay or Amazon buyers, but for many, the Classifieds will be a cost effective way to list their sets/parts to sell and trade to other members.

  10. We asked everyone to submit their final pledge by Sunday evening so all further donations can be directed to the family. Details on where to send those donations are above. Here is a quick update on the donations for the sets: We received $839.01 via Paypal after transaction fees. I am covering the transaction fees so adding that back ($25.99) plus my original pledge of $40, brings us to $905.00 (one $20 pledge is still outstanding). We purchased 4 sets that totaled $746.35. The remaining balance of $158.65 will go towards the minifigure shelf, or if that plan doesn't work out, another larger set.

  16. I thought the same thing. I saw Target do this online when Fire Brigade retired. One night it's $150, and the next morning it's $250. I remember it clearly because I had ordered two the night before, but then canceled because I thought I was going to get a better deal from another source. I didn't, then puked when I saw the price hike the next morning.

  18. TRU is a mystery, but it is unfair to wish for a company to go under. Hey, you don't like the price then don't buy from them! Not like any of you can run a huge company, right? j/k Seriously though, we've seen some deals from TRU and we leaped on them, so don't be a hypocrite. I walked in yesterday to a store and found a decent deal on JP (MSRP!) and the cashiers were willing to stack coupons and give me the best deal, but was only able to use the 20% coupon. The point is, we need competition, otherwise, in the future we'll have to only shop at the likes of Wally World and they will run up the prices, since they will most likely outlast all others...

  22. Any selling forum outside of ebay and amazon is a plus, since the overhead in those venues is stupid. I miss the old days of ebay. That being said i think we get a little ahead of ourselves in terms of how big am impact we make on pricing. It is a big world out there. Just look at the cumulative all in value of all brickfolios, this represents years of buying and holding. Compare that to just one year of legos gross sales. I am not worried. I may buy 100 of a 50 dollar set on discount. Who cares it is a drop in the bucket, and our cumulative bucket is only a slightly bigger drop. More sales venues is a good thing. I am thinking ahead 3-5 years with a projection of this portfolio and how to maximize profit and minimize cost. This is a good thing. You cannot realize profits on tangible investments without a sale. I am excited to see what rolls out, thanks.

  23. Looking over all the DC Superheroes sets, Lego has focused on nothing but stuff for Batman with only four sets revolving around Superman, and the Power Armor Lex was actually comic book based so no wonder that design was great. I understand the popularity of Batman but it isn't like he is the only DC character in the universe. I suppose though designing sets for him is easier than the other super heroes considering he has so many "wonderful toys" as The Joker once put it. Everyone else can either fly, levitate, teleport, run, some other means of transportation, and would probably need some sort of playset as an excuse for them to be released in. Spider-Man is another hero being dragged out a little too much without any sort of variation on himself. I may just pick up Doc Ock Truck Heist just for classic Doc Ock but that's about it for me. I am more amped up for the X-Men set even with its horrible retail and really would like to see more of the classic mutants. In any case, Marvel has definitely already won the award for variation as having sets revolving around more than just a single superhero compared to DC but then again DC does have Batman so there.

  27. This may have been mentioned before, but I couldn't find it in the forums. If you buy a Palace Cinema at the LEGO store, you're supposed to also get a Lego Movie Poster Sticker that you can replace one of the original stickers with. This little sticker sheet is selling for over $30 on eBay. Add in the free Martian Manhunter and VIP points and you're getting about $57 worth of free stuff for purchasing the PC right now. not a bad deal.

  29. Some of you read my light box article. I just recently discovered a new use for it! This is my three-legged, blind in one eye, cat named Tom. I am sure that everyone here with cats knows that if you leave a box on the floor, the cat will eventually end up inside the box. When I saw this, I grabbed the camera. My cat was very cooperative and looked up for most of the pictures. When I created my light box, I planned to photograph minifigures with it, but I guess it works pretty well with pets, too!

  31. If that's what you got after reading the entire thread, I recommend a remedial course in reading for comprehension. The question isn't whether the quality is different, its whether its different because the manufacturer in China is bad and LEGO, for mysterious reasons, doesn't do anything about it, or if the quality is different because TLG intends it to be so.

  33. I can't provide any documented proof on this, and the info I have is a decade old and second hand, but there was at one point a culture of skimming, kickbacks and cost cutting that pervaded China. The stories I've been told had to do with printed goods, books, board games, card games, etc related to the table top gaming industry (think: Dungeons & Dragons, Magic the Gathering, HeroClix, etc.) In general, many of the factories in china were perfectly capable of producing products on-par or even in some cases exceeding the quality of the products made in America or Europe. When large companies would spec a product, they would sometimes send representatives to China to evaluate the production line, check quality on pre-production samples and sign off on the production of however many units they needed (be it 10k or 1m units.) The problems would generally start as soon as the factory would re-order supplies. If the U.S. company provided material specs to the factory and allowed the factory to source the materials, than as soon as the factory needed to resupply they would send out the materials for a rebid from their suppliers (or if they had a preferred business partner they would just go direct to them) -- this would often result in the factory either getting the materials for less and keeping the difference for themselves, or getting kickbacks of one type or another -- the problem was that sometimes these new materials would not actually meet spec and would result in lower quality product. Since the U.S. company would normally not have one of there people "on the ground" these sub-standard materials wouldn't necessarily get caught and would make it into the U.S. supply chain and out to retailers. Now sometimes, these would get identified later, sometimes they wouldn't. If found, sometimes the U.S. company would switch factories -- but generally the costs of moving production would out weigh the benefits and they would get "reassurances" from the factory that they would only use approved vendors for materials in the future (which would sometimes stick and sometimes not.) The largest companies keep a quality team in-place, on the ground, locally in China to make sure these things don't happen -- but many companies find it cost prohibitive. Another anecdote was an NPR story I heard last year that had to do with Apparel manufacturing. The problem that industry would have is that they would get production samples from a factory and they would be perfect. The factory would start producing the product and suddenly the product would get popular. The manufacturer would contact the factory and ask if they can ramp up the production on their next run so that instead of 10k units on the next shipment they need 50k units. The factory, not wanting to loose the business, would say "sure no problem" even though they knew they couldn't possibly produce more than 20k units in the given time frame. The factory would then subcontract with other factories to produce the extra and those factories would then produce sub-standard product that would end up mixed in with the good stuff. This kind of behavior is not unique to China, or even to just a few regions -- this kind of activity happens world wide, it is just more pervasive in China (or at least it was a decade ago.) It's the responsibility of the manufacturers to find reliable factories that can produce on-spec, and to spend the resources needed to make sure the product ships on-spec. It just happens that when you own your own factories, or when your employees don't have to travel halfway around the world to do Q/A, than it's more likely you'll keep a closer eye on the results. Not much point to arguing about all of it though -- perhaps TLG decided that the collectible minifigs were less likely to be "played" with in the same manor as the figures from their normal sets, and as such they could cut some corners with the particular quality of ABS used, the maintenance & quality of the molds (are the mold lines more visible on the CMFs?), etc.

  39. I generally liked this wave of SW, and I prefer the vehicles and models in Episode III as opposed to Episode II. However, I wish we got more MEMORABLE moments from Revenge of the Sith, like Yoda vs. Darth Sidious, instead of "Battle of Saluecami," which was seen for barely 5 seconds in the entire film. I adore the new Jedi Interceptor, but wish we got a Red model for Obi-Wan, or maybe both for $40-50? I wish Boga was included in the Grievous Wheel Bike set, then I wouldn't mind it being $25 or $30. The only reason for purchasing the Tri-Fighter is Chancellor Palpatine. Otherwise, it's a horrible DOWNGRADE compared to 2010's 8086 Droid Tri-Fighter. I'm glad we get a better V-Wing, but like I said before, I wish we got more memorable models instead of 3 second cameo vehicles. The Utapau Troopers battle pack is my favorite, because they are just so much cooler than all other clones (except for the 501st in Episode III). My biggest disappointment is NO Commander Cody anywhere. He's pretty awesome looking, and was way underused in the Clone Wars (but don't get me started on the faults of TCW). I am not happy with the new Chewbacca, because his face doesn't really look like Chewbacca's. I do like Tarfful, and I am pleased with Gree, but his presence makes me even more mad that we didn't get Commander Cody. I don't care for Microfighters at this point, but I see there is an obvious draw for some, and a great distaste from others. The two Clone Wars sets are better because the vehicles and Clones are better. I wish we got more exclusive figures WITH the already included ones, it would help to soften the blow of the price for these sets, but with the constant changes I suppose they are exclusive anyways. :/ Overall, better than 2013's summer release, but it could have been better. It looks sad compared to the next line up though. Original trilogy, here I come!

  40. Last night I had someone offer me $26.00, yes $26.00 for my NISB Architecture Studio, I declined, not even worth the counter, they offered again, $40.00 this time, so now I'm annoyed and I countered for a dollar less than my asking price and said that if they made one more stupid offer I'd ban them from ever being able to bid on my auctions
