  1. These sets are really cool. I wasn't even aware they existed until recently due to them being US only. I would have loved to have something like this when I was a kid, such a great concept.

  2. I have some more questions for you StarPod. So you had roughly between 12 and 24 other friends of yours wait in line with you (assuming they were allowing 2 sets per customer)? I have a hard time getting two of my friends together to hang out on any give night let alone between 12 and 24 friends to wait online with me at 8am to buy things that they weren't even going to be able to keep. Also, How were you able to transport that number of sets around the mall/to your home? Do you have pictures you can share with us of every set you picked up today in one photo? Here is every set I got at the Freehold opening:

  3. Tell me I am not the only one waiting till midnight to place a bunch of $75 orders to get a bunch of these hot dog stands before they run out? Buying orc forge/funhouse pairs---3 of each in pairs to get over the 75 hump. And I have been waiting for 3 weeks now! Hoping the forge stays in stock--biting my nails for the last 2 weeks.

  4. Yeah I agree with Barcelona. You need to diversify your funds (lol). I mean I could put all of my savings straight into tower bridges, but what if it doesn't work out well? I like having my foot in every barrell. Now honestly, I would buy more VCs since I only have 4, but I don't think I would buy 20 if I had the chance. I can use my capital elsewhere.

  5. I love how you guys find these crazy deals and then you're all like "come on, I know you can do better!" Total Lego swag imo. If I saw a VC for $69, my heart would be racing, my palms would be sweating and after I knocked over whom ever I needed to in order to secure that VC, I would dance to my car and then waste no time getting online to let you all know about my unbelievable find! I've got zero Lego swag!

  7. Yes, by now most of us are aware of the Lady Brickpicker introduction fiasco. Another thread might seem ridiculous, but I'd just like to throw out some observations to see if anyone agrees. First, No ladies were harmed in the making of the original thread. There were no sexual overtones, no jokes at the females' expense, and the only insult was "hypocrite," which was directed at a male. Second, it actually developed into an intelligent, interesting discussion on gender equality and bias. Again, in a totally academic, impersonal manner. Sure, it was a passionate, emotional debate, but it was NOT personal. Third, the eurobricks thread OrcKing refers to is 7 years of basically everyone saying they like Lego, too, and singing Aqua's song Barbie Girl. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'll take 24 hours of controversial opinion over 7 years of fluff anyday. Fourth, this forum is obviously very tightly monitered and controlled. Almost every thread has a moderator or admin post present, and they are always available to advise or admonish. I applaud their efforts. But in this case I think they were a bit overprotective of the forum's sanctity.

  8. While investing in MOCs is very, very tricky, it can be done. Granted, most MOCs that become sellable are of a quality unseen by typical LEGO sets. Below are some tips to help you calculate a fair price for what your MOCs can go for. Remember, when it comes to this type of investing, marketing is everything. 1. Calculate the cost of the bricks you used, and add 5% of each's cost on top of that original price. 2. Calculate the hours spent building the MOC and add $10 per hour. 3. If you will be including a step by step instruction booklet for the build, this will increase the price. 4. When building sellable MOCs only use new bricks. 5. If your MOC falls under a licensed theme that LEGO is currently producing take 10% of your calculated total and add it to the final price. Also, these tips are not set in stone, they are only recommendations. You may find that you could get more for a MOC or you may find that you get less. I don't create MOCs for investing myself. I find it too time consuming and not rewarding enough. Good luck to you though!

  9. Looks like a good start, good luck on your town. Some of the modulars make for a great downtown feel as well, and the upcoming City Square would make a great centerpiece for your town as well.

  12. People who follow my work know me for mixing off brands with LEGO for my MOCs, and I think it's the best way to use them. They make great little fiddly parts and interesting pieces that LEGO doesn't that blend pretty seamlessly into LEGO bricks. Things like Stud to Stud connectors (like a 1x1 lampholder with the plate part cut off). I don't find the colors are that big a deal. I've recently highlighted KRE-O's "Olive Green" color I'd been using out of their Battleship Helicopter set, and I find it a darker, richer olive green compared to LEGO's offering. Here's an example, made by yours truly: All the Olive Green is KRE-O, as are some of the black parts in the gun, namely the quad-barrel at the end of the sniper rifle, and the textured barrel brick connecting the KRE-O combat knife (this part is on both guns but it's harder to see it on the sniper rifle).

  13. Thought I would share with everyone a fairly ridiculous MOC I just finished up. These MOCs are titled "RoboChicken", and I just finished the first character General Cluck. As you can see, he's a no-nonsense kind of fowl and a demolitions expert to boot. Enjoy!
