  5. I'm able to login in the forums, but as soon as I navigate anywhere else, my login is not recognized. For example, I am unable to view my Brickfolio since the site refuses to recognize any login while trying to view that section of the site. This includes the homepage of the site as well. I can click to log in, it says it's processing the login, and then when it takes me back to the home page I'm still not logged in. However, if I click over to the forums, I'm logged in here. Is anyone else having this problem?

  6. I browse eBay all the time as do most members here. I always find just stupid high prices on LEGO sets. My question is what's the point? I get it that this is free market and sellers are free to set the price point but it seems to me like a waste of time. Why not price your sets competitively, more sales means more money right? I'm sure many of you have thoughts on subject so please share.

  7. Good day all, from beautiful Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada! I have to admit that I own exactly one Lego set. Yesterday I bought a Uruk-Hai Army set for my son. As he is just over three weeks old, suffice to say, we won't share the joys of building that I remember from childhood for quite sometime. But this leads me to my query. I'd love to spend the coming years building a collection of sets for him to enjoy as he gets older. LOTR spoke to me as both my spouse and I love the books and movies and I thought he would enjoy the sets as he ages. Can anyone give me any suggestions on sets to collect? I, frankly, know little about the hobby but understand that collections sell out quickly and can be difficult to come by. Any help for the new guy would be appreciated. Best, Don

  8. Well, it's not so black and white. I can list a lot of what I have cheaply and make good profit. As much as if I held onto it for later? No, likely not, but my profits would be comparable to most people sitting on sets because I sourced my stuff more cheaply. The question is what can I do with that profit I made from a set that I quick flipped while you are still sitting on it? I can get a lot of sets on clearance regularly. If I quick flip them, not only do I still make a good profit (because my entry point is lower than most), but I can either reinvest that profit into more sets, or have it on hand if real life goes south. It depends on how much capital you have to play with I guess, or how low you can get your entry point on sets. There's a lot of factors to consider aside from just how much a set is listed for in relatuon to its EOL. Everybody's ROI will mainly depend on their initial price point.

  9. Its funny listening to everyone here talk about it, because those with an indifferent attitude obviously don't need the money anytime soon...that's the beauty of it, you can afford to hold longer so it doesn't matter that your ridiculously priced items take 6 months or more to sell. We then see the difference between that and the fly-by-night investors who are unloading B-Wings at 125 or 150 a pop because they need the money back now and can't afford to hold like that. That's what it really comes down to, right? If you don't need the money anytime soon, why list on the cheaper side? Might as well hold, am I on the right track here?

  11. Hi Don! I'm in the same boat as you, my son is 4 months now and I started about 30 or so weeks into the pregnancy. It's been about 6 months and so far my biggest piece of advice is to remain very casual and extremely selective about the whole thing. Also, no regrets and don't look back when a set you missed out on goes End Of Life (EOL). Just let it go and move on. If you're not careful you'll start doubling up (or more) on sets to sell later...thinking that you'll recoup the cost of what you've spent so far or help fund this momentum going forward. All you really need right now is a discounted Vampyre Castle, but it's so easy to get caught up in the hunt and feed off this very active community. Before you know it you're re-organizing your home office for space and feeling like you're a big time investor running out of room. *Which your wife will be quick to remind you that you're not...a big time investor that is, but you ARE running out of room and it turns out that her idea of an investment does not start with "L" and rhyme with LEGO. Luckily, she just thinks this is a phase. Then one day, you'll find yourself rearranging long standing priorities so you can be the first to see what's on sale as you're standing outside a Target before your Sunday morning ride, waiting for it to open, wondering how weird it would be if the 5 other guys waiting as well, are there for LEGO too... only to find out they are, which makes you feel even weirder, and crazier. Then, nothing is on sale. So your riding time has just been pushed back 1 hour and it's hot out, you'll pay for that later, but now you realize this has all gone too far and you start to wonder if you should sort out what you want most and return the rest. Good thing you kept all those receipts! Good luck!

  13. Hello everybody ! My name is Joe and I have been collecting lego for about 4 years now. Like many of you, I had lego growing up as a kid. As I got older I lost more interest and then my box mysteriously disappeared. It wasn't until I became a single father of 3 that lego became a excuse to buy. I searched cl on the daily and yes hourly....we know we all do it, looking for a lego collection. Bought a few mix boxes and collections. I learned to sell online, then kept what I liked and sold what I didn't. Helped generate more funds for new sets and even occasional fun money. With my boys helping out with sorting/building we now have an entire room dedicated to lego. I have enjoyed reading the forums for the last couple of months and will try to participate and throw out any info that I see. You guys are all awesome ! Joe@BricksR4kids

  14. I have one (relatively hard-to-find item) listed that I keep bumping the price on to stay ahead of the demand curve, half-hoping that it never sells, because just having it listed draws a lot of traffic. Since I've only got the one, when it sells, I lose that draw.

  16. You know what? I'm feeling generous - I "liked" your other post! Seriously though, I wish Amazon wouldn't duplicate those dang Lego product entries. I just can't understand the difference between these sets that would force a second listing...makes no sense.

  24. It's a great set. Anyone not considering buying one needs to look closer. This set will have very solid returns over the next year or so. http://www.brickpicker.com/reviews/review.cfm?id=875

  26. Welcome aboard! I wish I could give you an easy answer, like "sell 18 months after the official announcement of EOL from Lego", but the reality is that without any hard data to digest about how many sets are floating around out there in the market it really is a guessing game about when to exit your position. I can tell you that every single set will eventually hit a "top" in the secondary market, and I will also tell you that you are not a failure as an investor if you do not consistently wait to sell your sets at this "top" price every single time The reality is if you were to make a chart of the typical sets appreciation post EOL it would likely appear as a curve that flattens out over time. If you were to then retroactively analize this curve I'm guessing you'd find most sets would be best sold in the 2-3 year timeframe, as the majority of the appreciation probably takes place over this period of the sets life. I haven't formally done this, but that's just my informal impression of the Lego market. There are always going to be outliers, and again your entry point will also heavily influence your final results unless you have a runaway hit like the UCS Falcon or Green Grocer on your hands. The good news out of all this is as long as you're careful in picking sets that should perform well in EOL (and from the ones you've posted you're off to a good start), you carefully keep track of all your costs (if you spend $50 in gas driving around to save $20 in clearance prices at the register you're going to get chewed up and spit out without even realizing it), and you strive to get your sets 20% or more of MSRP (this is to account for a roughly 10% brokerage fee to your selling platform and 10% net profit to you), then you will be well on your way to beating the traditional investment vehicles available to mainstream investors.

  27. Yes. The most important thing, no matter your preferred method of investment, is to keep your entry price point as low as possible. Also, I know a lot of members here, myself included, keep a balance between sets to flip and sets to sit on for later appreciation. There's no real drawback for mixing it up if you can keep your price low enough. It's certainly easier for me personally to flip sets because I can keep a steady stream of sets at very low price points, so while I might not make the most money per set, I make it quickly and often, and can turn that profit around into more sets. Heck, there's some sets I could sell to other members at MSRP and I'd make a profit because I was able to get my entry point so low. For instance, I bought some Attack on Weathertop for $20.00 a box. I could flip that this holiday season for $45 to $55+ profit. Compare it to a member who buys it at MSRP of $60 who is sitting on it until 2014 holiday season. Even if it doubles in value, they're only making a tad more than I am, and I made it a full year before they did, which I likely threw into other investments. But, again, that kind of stuff only works if you can keep your price points low. You really have to gauge the kind of market you live in, especially if local retailers are your primary sources of LEGO.

  29. Personally I'm not a fan. One of the things I try to follow when I invest is to invest only in sets I wouldn't mind keeping. I would much rather have a lot of Star Wars or City sets that I can't sell versus Friends sets. I'm also pretty limited in what I can invest in due to the limited amount of money I make. I'm not trying to be a downer, but that's just how I feel.

  30. The best advice I can give you is to pick the right sets and buy them at a discounted price. Every LEGO set gets discounted before EOL. EVERY ONE. Never pay retail. If you buy at a discount, you are on your way to making a profit when the set retires.

  33. While I am skeptical of all Lego rumors there is no reason to doubt a person that is openly trying to help. Emazers has nothing to gain by trying to help which I think is exactly what he is doing. I wonder why he shares any of his inside information at all with potential competition. That being said, by now and regret later. With a Lego store receipt you can ride the rumor for a good amount of time and return it if the rumors turn out to be false, no harm done then.
