  1. my wife is 7mo pregnant. We Self quarantined ourselves for 21 days minimum this past Sat. Not going to wait around and let people with alterior motives tell you what to do. You alone need to be your own biggest health advocate. here is some great info that may help some of you less ‘science’ oriented people understand the possible severity if we ignore this. Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this to others who don’t understand... It has to do with RNA sequencing.... I.e. genetics. Seasonal flu is an “all human virus”. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year... you get immunity two ways...through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot. Novel viruses, come from animals.... the WHO tracks novel viruses in animals, (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1) (birds in the case of the Spanish flu). But once, one of these animal viruses mutates, and starts to transfer from animals to humans(zoonotic)... then it’s a problem, Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity.. the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn’t human, and the human immune system doesn’t recognize it so, we can’t fight it off. Now.... sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human, for years it’s only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human... once that happens..we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, thats what decides how contagious, or how deadly it’s gonna be.. H1N1 was deadly....but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. It’s RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too. Fast forward. Now, here comes this Coronavirus... it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long...but one day, at an animal market, in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person... But here is the scary part.... in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, “slippery” This Coronavirus, not being in any form a “human” virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity). Took off like a rocket. And this was because, Humans have no known immunity...doctors have no known medicines for it. And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus, changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs.. That’s why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza.... this one is slippery. And it’s a lung eater...And, it’s already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain s, and strain L....which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine. We really have no tools in our shed, with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu. Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him, till the Black Plague passed...(honestly...I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation... And let me end by saying....right now it’s hitting older folks harder... but this genome is so slippery...if it mutates again (and it will). Who is to say, what it will do next. Be smart folks... #flattenthecurve. Stay home folks.

  2. We just had our second child...last week (the other is 23 months). Our hospital stay was intense, especially when a nurse made the mistake of revealing that they had their first confirmed case our first day there. We have had to make a lot of choices that potential visitors have sometimes questioned as extreme ("Okay, but can't I just..."), but as you said, it's about protecting ourselves and the babies.

  3. South Korea is the lead on testing for this. Their numbers still suck, but they are certainly more realistic than countries that are only testing those who show obvious symptoms. https://www.cdc.go.kr/board/board.es?mid=a30402000000&bid=0030 They provide daily updates. This is the March 17th update. We just had our third child... he is 3 weeks old today. Our other children are almost 4, and 22 months. The world rate of 0% fatalities thus far for people under 10 is helping keep things calm on my end. I fear for my parents and grandparents, but I must do everything I can to protect my babies.

  6. Right there with you man. Wife is in first trimester with our third. Scary stuff, compounded by how little we know about this and pregnancy. Is she going to have a natural birth or C-section? Mine will need a C-section which is a bit concerning.

  10. As a Millennial ('85) , I think it's also reverse. My Mother-in-law and Grandmother-in-law both still want to go shopping. They think we "might" have to cancel her 80th party in April. Yes, I know this is from the guy who said we would go to Disney unless it closed, but here we are, and we are following the rules. It's pretty much everyone, the news needs to stop "calling out" people based on when they were born, or what political affiliation they are. Its no better that basing it on the weight of a person, color of their eyes, et al.

  13. I wanted to create a new thread in order to give progress on my site updates. I want explain a bit on what happened and what I am doing. What happened with the site? Honestly nothing really exciting or dramatic, overall in the end, I did not want to support the host I was with for the past four years after not really offering too much help with managed servers. They would spend 30 seconds looking, say they can ping the server so its up and then just say, "hey not my problem". I was on aging hardware, paying the same amount of money, so I took the opportunity to move to a new host with better/faster hardware and a staff that does help to support you when run into an issue that you can't handle on your own. I have been doing this a long time and pretty good monitoring and handling 99% of what comes my way, but there are issues that you need the next level up to help figure out what to do. I wasn't getting anything like that, but paying for it. Not anymore. What my goal is... I know more than anyone that the site needed some TLC. It's been a while since I have done any drastic updates, the site looked tired and I know the site can be so much better than what it's current state was. LEGO investing has changed since Ed and I launched the site and it's time to remove the dead content and bring more of what people are looking for. Below is the short term list of items planned for updating. I have been working on the nightly, just like the early days and enjoying seeing parts of it coming to life. Fix the login. This has been messed up and quirky for a while. This has been resolved and working well. It's a simple thing overall, but nice that it actually works how it's supposed to Overall price guide site design update. The site was tired and disjointed. I hated it and pained me to look at it. Time to start over. Brickfolio update. All the Brickfolio data is safe. I have close to three million rows of data for Brickfolio entries. Time to bring this thing to 2020. I will probably create another thread at some point to solicit some feedback on some new requests for the brickfolio Fix the data syncing with Brickset. A lot of people used this feature, but it's time to make it work the way it should. Later I will work on the content portions. The news and blogs. I have some good ideas for this, but want to get the price guide and brickfolio to you sooner than later. What I am asking for if possible... If you can, please stop asking where the brickfolio is. Again, the data is safe and I am working as fast as I can to bring it all back to you. It won't be a few days, but more like a few weeks, but it will be worth it. I setup my dev environment to push releases quick and easy. I want to create a true changelog so that you can follow updates to see what was done/fixed/new/removed, you know like what real software companies do. I really do appreciate your patience with this. It wasn't planned, but if there was going to be a time to do it, it was going to be now.

  14. Unfortunately, i hate to make it political because I am very moderate and tend to disagree with every politician. But that doesnt take away the fact "in 2018 the Trump administration fired key officials (https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-fire-pandemic-team/) connected to the U.S. pandemic response, and they were not replaced." This would seem counter-intuitive to our nation's readiness or ability to assess and respond. History would agree with you on that.

  16. Stay safe man and best of luck. We were planning for natural birth but we will see how this all pans out. Almost all Dr's appointments are being canceled/teleconference. Really hoping we can come together as a nation and get the social distancing in full effect so a few months down the road we see our numbers level off and the panic has reduced. If you look at the 1918 graph someone shared earlier. We the US are essentially Balitimore/Philly back then, since we didnt react as early as we could have. This allows the virus to SPREAD. Now we have to live through the reality of the apex of infections. And as each state has their own plans, we will see some states not take is as seriously and be worse off. This is the unfortunate reality we are in now. Since this is not allowed in our country and still highly researched, i would say its not a viable course of treatment at present. In the future, yes, if we can get rid of all the hurdles/restrictions of handling the actual contaminated specimen. If anything, Im hoping this makes alot of people wake up, and maybe we put into place an action plan if this was to ever happen again. Cut off travel early, bars, churches, airports, everything. Reduce the amount of built up panic and sell offs. If we know what to expect, alot less people would be spooked and more would be prepared. hahah thanks man, we needed a good laugh.

  19. China is the last government in this world I'd trust. It's also the last government in this world that has official concentration camps. Nobody mentions that! Where are the values we all speak so highly of? The minimum we can do is to inform people about this present genocide in the "modern" 21st Century. Google search the Uyghurs. They are a minority there. Millions of people trapped, enslaved, slaughtered & raped. I don't want to imagine how Covid-19 hit them there. No medical treatment what so ever, even before the virus. Poor guys. The chinese press won't write a word about their horrible situation. How can anyone in the right mind trust these numbers from a communist killer-regime?

  20. It's not all that tough to imagine China going to basically 0 cases. They have the ability to take away rights and lock people in their homes. Their government would have no issues shooting you if you broke quarantine. This may have led to thousands of unreported deaths, as people may have simply died at home. Spoiler: it's also tough to imagine China lying about everything.

Anyway I enjoyed the build and the result looks real good for a small set. Proportions are much better than the six stud wide SC from before. However I did discover that this F8 is for bald guys only. The hood won’t close all the way with helmet or hair piece on.

  35. The Population will be infected by 60-70% according to Experts like Drosten. Who btw invented the so called german test along with others. That particular test the whole world uses, except for the US who have their own beautiful test- oh wait. Because german standarts cant meet up with US standarts. The goal is to slow the Virus down so the health care systems arent overrun by patients. So even if you arent in the group of people with higher risks you should help to slow the spreading down by just staying home and try not to attend unnecessary meetings.

  36. I love how china now begins to go back to work like nothing happened....its a pandemic, the Virus will most certainly come back and hit them again. Maybe were "lucky" and it will evolve to something else. Btw it already evolves-but thats just what Viruses do, does not mean it is getting worse automatically. The economic breakdown of china will hit us in one or two months. If your country has no heavy monetary answer to the economic cut that will happen due to corona a lot of middle class buisneses will go down.

  38. A movie came to my mind today... Demolition Man. In the beginning of the movie (in the future) they give a high-five, but don't actually touch. Bullock invites Stallone back to her place for "sex" but it's some sort of mind-warp sensory thing where there is no actual touching of any kind. When Stallone tells Bullock he wants to kiss, etc. she is grossed out at the idea of touching and "fluid exchange". I have to confess, I always laughed but now I get it.

  39. I cant believe that you are "nitpicking" what fair / amusement is still open and what is not.. all the major sport leagues are either terminated or indefinitely postponed, yet you focus on wnich particular location is unavailable. From my point of view you should rather study more closely how the situation and official precautions / position developed within Europe based on the curve of proved infections. There hasnt been any better prevention to this virus - than a total seclusion .. and sooner or later your gov will find that out and do exactly the same. The worse for you is that the general availability of healthcare is much worse in US than in Europe - here even a a homeless person gets a proper care in case of need, the same can not be said about your system that is based on a paid healthcare. So you might be struck more with respect to many ppl who can not afford to go to a doc.

  40. I apologize a front - but US president is totally inadequate, unqualified and total JERK. .he can not even get his advisors right (on the Corona virus spread in Europe), he is absolutely impulsive and his decision to stop all transatlantic flights between EU and US is a proof to that.. the exclusion to allow for UK/Ireland flights because "UK takes really good steps and approach in this situation how to fight the virus " is an absolute laughing stock as UK - on the contrary to many other EU countries - is actually DOING NOTHING. I hope this incident will literally break his neck and you get yourself a more qualified representative in the next elections. - not to mention that this selfcentered, egoistic, incompetent "Barbie Ken" is not just ruining EU economy, but yours as well .. I read somewhere that due to these restrictions around 80-100.000 US flight-related jobs will be in jeopardy.

  42. F****d by Amazon : We are closely monitoring the developments of COVID-19 and its impact on our customers, selling partners, and employees. We are seeing increased online shopping, and as a result some products such as household staples and medical supplies are out of stock. With this in mind, we are temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers. For products other than these, we have temporarily disabled shipment creation. We are taking a similar approach with retail vendors. This will be in effect today through April 5, 2020, and we will let you know once we resume regular operations. Shipments created before today will be received at fulfillment centers. You can learn more about this on this Help page 455. Please note that Selling Partner Support does not have further guidance. We understand this is a change to your business, and we did not take this decision lightly. We are working around the clock to increase capacity and yesterday announced 99 that we are opening 100,000 new full- and part-time positions in our fulfillment centers across the US. We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the above products for our customers. Thank you for your patience, and being F****d by Amazon .
