  1. CL $300 each. These popped up Sunday, I thought it was a scam but he messaged me back. Ad had been up an hour. I was not his first message but he said I was first person to offer to buy all 3 so they were mine (no takers on ssd). He wanted to wait for the snow to melt so I had to sweat for two days wondering if I would really get these. He met me at a movie theater 5 minutes from my office this morning. Looks like first bag of MILF was started rest is bagged. SSD box open but inner box sealed. 10143 box still sealed. I can't believe it.

  6. I think we're having 2 different arguments here: 1. Tabby proclaimed Dr.Who to be "not a turkey", to which Frank B. made the (IMHO correct) callout claiming that getting barely over RRP after 2 years still classifies a set as a Turkey. 2. Everyone else then jumped in to call Tabby's investment a winner, because he turned 22GBP into 60GBP in 2 years. I think Tabby's sale was indeed a winner (and indicative of the "new" LEGO investing), while at the same time, if what Tabby sold it for is a good indication of market value, the Ideas Dr.Who set is a turkey as per Frank's point, because people's expectations were much higher (should have at least made it to 2xRRP).

  8. So I opened this to verify contents for buyer I already have here (you guys are sharks). I heated the seals with a blow dryer. They held up well, especially compared to the ones they use now. cartons inside similar to the SSD, piece of white cardboard and manual sandwiched between. I assume sticker in one of the boxes, don't suppose if anyone knows for sure? The interior boxes do have push tabs instead of seals.

  12. Arm swept the half price 41153 Disney Ariel’s royal celebration boat at tesco earlier, £22.50 a piece. Left quite a few other half price sets though. Walking down another random aisle on the way out I saw a 21030 capitol building randomly by itself in a creased box. I took pity so scooped it up and scanned it - at £40. Quick chat with cs took another 10% off so I got it for £36.

  13. But you are in the minority with your opinion. RRP doesn’t even matter anymore. Almost every LEGO set will be available, in bulk online, at 30% off. We are even seeing 40-55% becoming common. So the lowest widely available price should generally be the starting point IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker Forum mobile app

  16. On my orders, Target charges the gift card separately from the Lego sets, effectively reducing the price of the sets. I think they do this because if you return a set, you don't get the purchase price back, only the price less the gift card. However, there is no requirement to account for the gift cards the same way. One option would be to value the Lego sets at full price, and have no cost in the gift card, and then use the gift card(s) for a personal item, Lego or otherwise.

  25. In academic econ, yes. In real world application it's just profiting from price differentials between markets (or even the same market at a different time). Because EOL still signals when retail availability and pricing no longer set the market. Even 50% off RRP isn't much of a buy-in if retailers are still actively selling for 20-30% off.

  26. That's self refuting. Even if objective, universal comparison was important, RRP is as arbitrary a starting point as anything else if the bulk of resale purchases are occurring below it.

  31. Disagree with the collector part. There are hundreds of sets out at the same time, and obviously limited money for collectors. So, they may not have time or resources to get the sets they want before they retire. So, the secondary market is the only place they can go, and most are willing to pay way above retail for stuff they missed. I will agree that SW stuff isn't collectible for the most part, unless you get to the UCS stuff.

  35. These were my 7th and 8th set purchased from this seller. All sets have been listed as "Open Box" "At least 90% complete". Sets all have been store returns that were resealed. All the sets I've purchased have been ~50% off with free shipping. Great for personal builds. All sets that I have received have been 100% complete in sealed bags, with a resealed box. I've learned to appreciate the unboxing videos on youtube.

  43. Those will be gold in two years, maybe sooner. I've done very well with White Houses and Lincoln Memorials. This set should perform well too. I wish my Target stores carried Architecture. Nice buy.

  44. The market is too flooded for consumers to keep track and too many sets are easily available so the avid collectors can easily find discounts. As a slight tangent, I really liked a lot of the Rogue One sets in terms of design, but there really isn't much of a market for them when they're competing against new sets from more films, multiple TV series, AND a slew of remakes. Now, if Disney execs decided to rest the brand for a 3- 5 years . . .
