  7. Started with 52. I'm down to 30. Local Facebook sales have been a decent platform to move these on, granted I'm only making $5-$10 on each one.

  10. This could be the worst cycle we have seen they won't pick the tower or the SW one as they are against the rules and the shuttle is a lazy remake. Out of the other three the NF 15B is the only intresting one.

  18. I was actually on my way to offering him a partial refund when I logged into my account and saw the feedback had been left. I'm most annoyed that he didn't even allow for me to respond to the item's condition and try to work something out. I was going to offer the refund as thanks for his gracious understanding that the USPS was the culprit and for keeping it instead of going through the hassle of sending it back.

  20. Today, I received a copy of 75098 from German department store chain Galeria Kaufhof. Seal code is from eight weeks ago: 44S7, so pretty recent. Maybe the set was more popular than commonly thought? Or the production run was scheduled way in advance and couldn't be stopped anymore (it's LEGO after all).

  22. My suggestions: 1) He is clearly screwing you. He likely orders from Ebay hoping to get sellers unaccustomed to shipping to HI in hopes of getting the items free. Follow him so that if he ever decides to sell on ebay, you can screw him back Alternatively, let it go. It's far healthier for you, but I am somewhat childish and vindictive 2) Don't refund him. Don't communicate with him at all. He's already left you bad feedback so there's nothing to be gained. If you respond in the case, keep in mind that what you are doing is creating a record for the ebay rep when they review it. Ebay will probably make you refund him, but by waiting for Ebay to decide the case, you give it a bit of extra time for the package to arrive. Sorry! These things happen on Ebay from time to time, but the vast majority of Ebayers are good eggs.

  27. Normal. The worst thing is when they start doing the dbag moves of claiming they are getting stuff in stock again in a month and not fulfilling whilst accepting orders and keeping prices down.

  35. So, I'm visiting my folks and decided to pop into the nearest Books-A-Million. After using their coupons, gift card, membership discount, and BOGO 50%, it was a decent haul, especially for that old UN Set. 70906 Joker Lowrider - $34.99 21016 UN Headquarters - $22.49 Captain America - $7.33 Iron Man - $3.65 Belle - $7.33 Beast - $3.65 Hulk - $7.33 Plus, TLJ soundtrack for $10.33. That helped with one of the coupons plus also I loved the soundtrack.

  37. I had somehow cleared $115 in sweeps winnings over the last two weeks, I won $50 in one go, but also many bonus games and wild wins. Topped it with the $10 freecash on $50 and ordered a Destiny's Bounty for $35 oops. My wife is going to flip a bit when it arrives at her parents house where we're staying this week.

  39. Exactly! It's like saying people won't buy a UCS X-Wing because they could buy Poe's X-Wing or the Resistance X-Wing. Or people won't buy the UCS TIE Fighter because they could buy the FO Tie Fighter. The system-scale sets are play sets, and they aim at their own markets. If anything, collector's want to have the best version of a vehicle. Nobody will trade in their 10174 Imperial AT-ST UCS set for the newer system-scaled 75183 AT-ST Walker. Or the 10212 Imperial Shuttle UCS set for the Imperial Shuttle Tydirium. Knowing there's a bigger and better version out there while make real collectors want it!

  40. We can discuss the many reasons why the UCS Sandcrawler underperforms, but I am wondering why an inferior set would hurt the UCS Sandcrawler's value. I would think it would help it.

  41. Not really as a percentage of the 60 investors might change their mind and decide to keep and build if there is no demand. What would 1 investor do with 60 tumblers - sell at a much lower price?
    1 point
  42. If folks are really targeting the 4-5 year post-EOL timeframe as their ideal selling window, one thing to realize is that demand for most retired sets falls off a cliff once you hit the 3-year post-EOL mark. By that time, most buyers have moved on to other products and are focused on buying other sets. Prices may continue to climb, but it becomes increasingly difficult to move inventory. If we end up in a scenario where there are a lot of resellers targeting that same window, that supply combined with low demand will keep prices from rising and make it difficult to unload inventory.

  43. One part of the problem is the insanely low interest rates offered by the banks. When people could get 3-4% interest on their savings, many were happy to just leave it there. But now that banks offer less than 1% interest, more and more people are looking at other ways to get a bit more out of their money. And investing in Lego suddenly becomes interesting for a lot of people. If you only get 0.7% interest offered by the bank, making just 5% profit (after costs) on Lego investment sounds already great. And because these new investors are already happy to take 5-10% of net profit after a few months of waiting, the prices will stagnate for a long time after a set retires. Until (hopefully) a new fad comes around causing many of these new Lego investors to jump ship and join the next opportunity that the media claims to offer mountains of gold.

  44. The people with no game plan who bought Tumblers are probably the ones already selling and most didn't get in until it was already retired at LEGO Shop at Home. Yes 60 investors buying 1 is same as 1 buying 60 but if 1 in 10 of the new investors to the market is of the type that buys in bulk then that does change the market. There had always been a steady flow of extra lego investors but I think the main issue is the articles have brought in more heavy investors now making the Exclusives not very exclusive at all. After all, the reason 10179 was so successful was the low production number, scarcity and lack of real interest at the time. As an example, look at the star performers in the Star Wars range for recent retirements. Red 5 UCS is doing OK but not spectacular, just starting to make a little bit of profit if you bought at rrp, yet underrated sets like The Phantom and The Ghost have rocketed because they weren't heavily bought into. Then there's the millennium falcon that did make insane profits quickly. The microfighters version, that has tripled in value post retirement again because it was overlooked at the time as a novelty.

  45. The biggest problem with lower growth rates, is the percentage of profits that Ebay/Amazon, PayPal and shipping soak up. For a cost basis of 100GBP, you have to sell somewhere about 120GBP just to break even. at a 20% growth rate, you therefore are lucky to wash your face after holding for year 1. So either you hold longer, hope for a better growth rate, or focus on your buy-in point.
