Don't get too caught up in something retiring. There are plenty of duds that retire, too. But, if you can get 75% off anything, it's best to grab it. It will retire some day, and even duds at 75% are winners.5 points

I sold 10 Poe X-wing Fighter polybags for $60 via eBay. Glad to have gotten rid of these. Much I have learned when it comes to investing in polys.......3 points

We're going away for Xmas so my parents gave the kids some money for presents ... we went to the LEGO store today to get the train station for our xmas village and we of course walked out with a bunch of stuff. Receipt 1 - Train Station - Ninjago Movie display case - A couple new keychains - Road plate pack with the curve.. was short one! - Free Advent Calendar Receipt 2 - Minecraft Ice Spikes & Ocean Monument - Speed Champs Bugatti, Mclaren, Camaro Drag Race and 2016 Ford GT & 1966 Ford GT40. - Free Store VIP Polybag ^ Would have probably got the Corvette and Audi but weren't on the shelves. When I asked the cashier for 2 receipts so we could separate what the kids owed us from their money, my partner glares at me and says "what's the point, just put it all on one we can figure it out." Knowing how stingy our store can be with promo sets, I knew making two separate purchases this large would be good enough.... but wasn't going to say that at the register. She eventually did figure it out and apologized outside after. Rookie! (Edit - if anyone's looking to unload a set of Ninjago Movie Minifgures let me know :)).3 points

Down to 31 Steamrollers. I've been listing a lot of items on the local Facebook buy & sell pages lately. I've had pretty good success so far. It's the perfect market to unload medium to small sized sets. Most of my sales on there are from women looking to buy an awesome gift for someone at a reasonable price. Occasionally I'll get a collector who will drop a few hundo on a large retired exclusive. The best part is that there are zero fees, zero shipping, and because I can check out their profile beforehand I have them come by to pick it up. I've also developed a few repeat buyers this way. With Christmas coming up I expect to do very well through this avenue, and hopefully move through the majority of my Steamrollers. Yes, I still have all of the Rey's Speeders, but only because I haven't tried to sell any yet. I need the damn thing to retire first!2 points

Storage fees are not a good indicator of how big or small a seller is . If you are churning your inventory at the right rate than you are doing it right and your storage fees should be low .2 points

FRAUD ALERT: legofanstore.com This was reported on the Lego Ambassador forum today. Website was registered today and is a scary good copy of Lego's site. Posting in DD because this is the most viewed thread. Mods move if you think appropriate.2 points

You left 75% off LEGO on the shelf? May I ask why? It’s not like this is Chima or Angry Birds. Ninjago is a good seller.2 points

I echo this. Kids and I went to the Lego store on Friday night, and I hadn't planned on buying it, but it was in stock. Thought what the hell, full price, no promo, just going to do it. The build is just fantastic. I just admire the designers who come up with this stuff. The head mechanism works amazingly well for the constraints of trying to make two round balls out of mostly squared bricks. If you're on the fence at all just get one, really fun build that comes together beautifully.2 points

I couldnt put it a better way.. of course this doesnt apply for personal ads and such.. so this (and devualtion of an exchange rate between CZK / GBP or USD) is one of the axioms why I simply I simply tend to buy-in at max 50-55 % or RRP.. there are too much variables at stake, buying-in (in USD) and selling after a while (again in USD) doesnt give you any headache such as 2015: 1 GBP = 36 CZK (today its 29.7). more or less the same for USD: 1 USD in 2015 = 26 CZK, today 22.. so that is like 18 % decrease in value in case of GBP in just 2 yrs and like 16 % compared to USD value - just because our currency is getting stronger every due to US / UK investment bank purchases seeking higher interest rates from the central bank.. tell me about a "paradox" here1 point

No, sounds like a pain in the a$$. I try to sell local as much as possible and not use eBay as much. No fees and no returns.1 point

I would tell them to return it for a full refund. Don't give them a free set. You'll have to pay the return shipping but I would rather do that then give it away. They could send you back a box of rocks though and you would still lose the fight.1 point

none for me thanks, got about 6 sets to sell! Yes, I do have about a billion PM's to get back with. Thanks to the brickpickers for picking my bones!1 point

If you buy this at RRP, they´ll make nice roomates with you Joker Steamrollers. This set is going to be so hoarded over the next two years that it´s a very risky plan to buy now and at only 20% off. It´s not exclusive so the big chains will be clearing them out before EOL, just like they did with 75149 X Wing. The 50% off minimum on non OT SW rule definitely applies, unless you are an Amazon FBAer, of course.1 point

Anything that's sold under the Ultimate Collectors Series isn't really worth collecting because it will be rereleased every 5-10 years, but all the other stuff is worth collecting because it more than likely won't be re-released. That makes a lot of sense. ?1 point

said it before and am going to repeat it again... in the so-called process of stopping resellers TLG is destroying itself.1 point

I think this set will do just fine 2-3 years after retirement even if bought at RRP. Obviously any discount you can manage helps reduce the risk and pads the bottom line, but when the signs of retirement start to show I have a feeling we will all be buying up whatever stock remains at full retail just to have a few of these in our brickfolios. This set really stands out for all of the reasons already mentioned. I'm hoping it only has a two year life, but I have a hunch this one might stay in production longer than that.1 point

Grand Emporium for £127.50. Stage 1 is of unknown completeness, and missing its instruction booklet, but stages 2 and 3 are still fully in sealed bags. I've checked and they are all there (and the instructions, but they're out of shot). I'll go through stage 1, find out what pieces are missing, bricklink them, then build the whole thing for myself.1 point

A couple years ago, during post Christmas Walmart clearance shopping, I had made a few medium sized purchases. From experience, I expected to trigger my card's fraud prevention, so I actually called them before my next purchase, explained the situation, and requested my fraud detection be turned off or whatever flag they could turn on my account. Customer service said they understood, no problem, etc - Get to the next store, make a $600 purchase, and of course, card declined. So maddening. On a side note, I love you guys casually talking about ordering a couple thousand sets off Walmart. I am not sure if you're just big time flippers or there's something obvious I am not seeing, but I have no idea what stuff is being bought at this time of year for 15-20% off en masse, not sure if I should be scared or not.1 point

To lighten the mood, here is a finished picture of mine. To get the colors of the engine plume correct, the four outside engines use a trans-orange plate while the center engine uses a trans-light blue plate. This was achieved using Brickstuff pico LED lighting system (http://www.brickstuff.com - cannot recommend enough. A little pricey, but great to work with and the end result is fantastic). 5x pico LED's, some adapter boards, an IR Lighting Effect Controller, and a small battery pack. The four outer engines (orange) have a flicker effect, the center engine (blue) is solid on. To get a clean install, I cheated a bit and used a 7/8" drill to go through the 'stud stack' so that the wire would be routed on the inside.1 point

One of my BB-8s that I ordered online from Target had two popped seals. Instead of exchanging it for a new one when (and if) my local stores get replenished any time soon, I decided to crack it open and build it. I don't normally dip into my inventory because I don't display any sets and my kids have entered their dark ages, but I was bored and something about this set gave me an itch to build. I'm glad I did. This set is absolutely fantastic. The build was fun, and the detailed features look great and work very well. This set is gold, Jerry! Gold!1 point

After hearing about the news of the new pirates of the Caribbean ship, I got hooked on lego boats. Already contemplating buying the imperial flagship, but wanted to try a small "boat" set before committing alot of money. I already bought some of these sets as got for about 60% off. Previously I thought the set was so ridiculous (in a good sense) that it made it work, but after building I love the set even more. It such a great build, it's one of those sets that you really need to build to fully appreciate it as pictures don't do it justice. I know that I won't be the only AFOL after this sets retires that will want to add it to his collection, it's sort of seacow junior. I personally feel that when this retires most people will regret not picking it up. I dont expect it to do amazing, however it can be bought easily for 50-60% off in UK. I have no doubt that this set will be one of the few angry bird sets that will get back to RRP in no time. It also a pretty high probability of never being re-made, not heavily stockpiled (compared to other sets...).1 point
