Guys, think about THIS. What if it's ACTUALLY the version of the MF from The Lego Movie, and comes with Batman? Discuss. ?7 points

Yes....to some degree, we (my son and I) like to collect most of a theme. However, last year, we decided to become more selective and at this point we analyze a wave and in some cases just buy the minis (don't plan on buying the rathtar set for example, or the quadjumper). But for the most part we have almost every Star Wars movie set since 2011. I decided to skip buying clone wars and rebels sets since we have to draw the line somewhere. This is just some of our minifigures from those sets that we put together for a "prequel" display. I'm currently working on the OT display..6 points

I don´t think it´s a good example being such a high price and rare set you will get more scammers selling "cheap" on ebay not to mention fakes. For normal retired sets usually the selling price order is local CL / brickowl / bricklink / ebay / amazon / amazon fba and finally catawiki where everyone is a billionaire.4 points

We started to build all our random bad investments as we're in a suburb of Houston and stuck inside for at least the next 7 days of flooding:( we and neighbors are all safe at least. I wanted to go help out but can't drive even a mile to get to where help is needed. I guess it's good I had sets that stunk for investment so I do not feel bad opening them3 points

Finally built the 10244 Fairground Mixer and to celebrate it's Grand Opening it was Star Wars Day! The lines were long: Chewbecca was playing a game,: Emperor Palpatine was in a good mood waiting for his turn in the dunk tank: Father and son were enjoying an ice cream: The tall man was there: And with a temporary peace across the galaxy fun was had by all. I did not know how to embed the video: MOV00048.MPG3 points

I do consider myself to have "completionist tendencies" But I consider this a good thing as it has resulted in my selling off about 75% of my personal build collection... Currently my must-buy themes are: -Licensed Technic sets (of actual vehicles): MB Unimog, MB Arocs, Claas Xerion, Volvo L350F, Porsche, Volvo EW160E, BMW R1200GS -Creator Expert Trains: Emerald Night, Maersk, Horizon Express (x2), Winter Holiday Train (2016) -SW Advent Calendars -Architecture Skylines -Modular Buildings (GG onward...still planning to BL Cafe Corner and Market Street one day) -SW UCS (2010 onward) Of note, I do plan to start picking up the Creator Expert vehicle series as they are all still on the shelves.2 points

I've been working on #71042 Silent Mary the past week. Enjoying the build so far as I'm up to bag #9 of 13. This is the first ship that I have built. I've got about 90% of the #4184 Black Pearl which is my next goal to build. Still got my eye out for a cheap #4195 Queen Anne though...2 points

When will we know that the LEGO boom is really over? When it appears as if there's no one left to complain (or seemingly even care).1 point

I guess so. In the past, such a major set release would have an active thread. Maybe people are spoiled.1 point

Hey Folks. Here is the write up of my first show. It covers a few different topics. I will put summaries of the shows in blog form once the new site is up a running. --------- Big Lego Boxes Welcome to How Big Is It. Are you a Lego Collector? Are you a Lego investor? Then keep on reading. Have you ever picked up a lego box and thought, wow this is big? Have you ever tried to wrap a lego box and thought, I can’t believe it takes a whole roll of wrapping paper? Of course, kids will always want the set in the biggest box, but adults can also be swayed by a big box. It is a key marketing decision. For the most expensive adult oriented sets, Lego has started to make a few smaller and denser boxes. Why? I don’t know. Some possible reasons are shipping costs, display space, or using less packaging. The last 4 modulars are all about the same piece count and weight, but the box has been shrinking. This is good for the investor since they are easier to store. 2013 Palace Cinema (10232) 0.89 cubic feet 2014 Parisian Restaurant (10243) 0.78 cubic feet 2015 Detective Office (10246) 0.78 cubic feet 2016 Brick Bank (10251) 0.70 cubic feet I started thinking about box size when I received my 76042 SHIELD Helicarrier in March 2015. I opened the shipping box from Lego and couldn’t believe how huge the box was. At that point it was the largest set that I owned in the largest box. I didn’t realize the size before ordering it because I had never seen it in a store. I had only seen it online. I would guess many of these large sets are ordered without the purchaser really knowing what they are getting. To prevent more surprises, I have collected a variety of sets for comparison. So how big is it? How big is the SHIELD Hellicarrier box? Helicarrier (76042) - 52041 cm3 or 1.84 ft^3 Star Destroyer Microfighter (75033) - .027 ft^3 - 69x smaller Star Wars Battle Pack (7655) - .038 ft^3 - 49x smaller Avengers Quinjet City Chase (76032) - .427 ft^3 - 4x smaller Indomindous Rex Breakout (75919) - .701 ft^3 - 2.5x smaller Ewok Villiage (10236) - .885 ft^3 - 2x smaller Sydney Opera House (10234) -1.67 ft^3 - a little smaller Taj Mahal (10189) - 1.34 ft^3 - a little smaller Death Star playset (10188) - 1.72 ft^3 - a little smaller Death Star II (10143) - 2.20 ft^3 - finally a box bigger than the Helicarrier Now I am am really curious. What are the all time biggest Lego boxes? I have done my research, and now I present to you: The Top 10 Biggest Lego Boxes Before I start, you should write down your list and see how many to get right. Top 10 Largest Lego Boxes by volume (cubic feet)* 10. 1.72 - 10188 Death Star 2008 6. 1.84 - 10221 Super Star Destroyer 1.84 - 75827 Firehouse Headquarters 1.84 - 76042 SHIELD Helicarrier 1.84 - 75195 Death Star 2016* 5. 1.86 - 3290 Scala Big Family House 4. 2.13 - 10179 Millennium Falcon* 3. 2.19 - 10030 Star Destroyer 2. 2.20 - 10143 Death Star II 1. 2.46 - 4785 Duplo Black Castle *Data taken from Brickpicker.com if I didn’t have the box. Not all online data agree with my personal measurements. My personal measurements take precedence. Side Note: 10030 online data 58.8 x 50.5 x 21 (cm) my measuement 58.7 x 50.2 x 21 10143 online data 58.7 x 50 x 21 (cm) my measurement 58.7 x 50.5 x 21 Here is a photo of the top 10 minus the Millennium Falcon (waiting for sale) and Death Star 2016 (morally opposed) in 4th and 6th place respectively. Well, were you surprised? How many of the top 10 sets were on your list? If you have any other cool comparisons you want to see, let me know. According to Lego, the new Millennium Falcon (75192) box will be 96228 cm^3 in size (3.40 ft^3). That is the same size as the Helicarrier box plus the Sydney Opera House box (see comparison above). Until next time, Lego on! Poor photo quality but here are some recent builds: My wife built the brickheadz and supervised, by leaving me alone, the other builds. I am indifferent towards the brick bank and it seems like a miss to me. The white exterior doesn't go with any of the other modulars (use rustic or tan to show age) and it's far too short for a corner building which forces me to break open a second set to compensate. I understand the trend of smaller and more detailed but this took it too far. The mismatched exterior color is a poor choice as well because it forces you to buy other sets to hide it and the laundromat is a throwaway section. There are some nice design characteristics but it's a general miss. The GBHQ was built from a used set with all of the pieces sorted by color. This took forever to build but I really liked all of the references to the movie and I really enjoyed seeing it come together. This is a well designed set particularly with how it opens up to show the interior and the back wall is easy enough to hide. I don't expect this set to have huge value for resale after retirement but it's a solid piece.1 point
