After my best ever Sweeps week (~$22 in points this week alone) I was able to buy the following using only Sweeps winnings (and a $10 surprise points on $50 offer): Gift Card was 6% discounted, so total out of pocket was $15.58 after tax. 76% off for a set that came out just last week, not bad. Personal purchase, so I'm okay with it not being free Thank you uncle Eddie!3 points

Not a set I've bought but got the instructions for Mirko Soppelsas UCS U-Wing MOC and ordered all the parts i don't have. Hopefully this will tide me over until 75192 hits the shelves. Not a cheap set of instructions to buy but the manual is a work of art and comes with a unique numbered tile as it's a limited release.3 points

Super off topic, but omg it'd be so great if someone made a Planet of the Apes IDEAS set. Based on the '68 original, could come with the Statue of Liberty sticking out of the ground and the famous scene of Taylor (Charlton Heston) hanging up in the net . Finish it off with the evil Dr. Zaius, the 2 chimp doctors, and a couple gorilla soldiers on horseback. Would be epic Also, imo AT-AT is never gonna be done with justice in less than 2000 pieces at a minimum2 points

Today I sold a 75059 Sandcrawler via CL - thinning out some inventory to pay for recent Walmart clearance buys (and clearing space for those sets). At the end of the transaction, the guy says "Do you like beer?" I thought to myself "weird question to ask in this sale, at noon in a church parking lot" but I said "Uh, yea, a lot." He says "then I have some home brew for you." I say "does this involve me giving you back some of this cash?" He says "no, it involves me brewing way too much beer." So he gives me a 6 pack of 3 different brews with a spreadsheet of what they are. Says wait 2-4 weeks on the Voodoo Baby. I asked what if I really like one and want to buy more? He says "I can't sell it, but I'd trade for things like Lego." I told him I'd keep his email address just in case. So, seems legit, hopefully I'm still alive after drinking the first bottle.2 points

Maybe it's my age, as the months come tumbling down before I turn 40, but a lot of my favourite mid size sets in the last few years have harked back to when I was a kid, Ecto-1, Mystery Machine, Benny's Spaceship. Look how happy Voltron made @Alpinemaps. Got me thinking to what sets I'd love to see made and I seem to keep coming back to tv sets from decades ago. Maybe this is what Ideas is all about, but I'd love to see a dedicated retro tv theme, here's a few of the sets I'd like to see: A-Team Airwolf Knight Rider Battlestar Gallactica - I know, Disney would never allow it Buck Rogers Magnum PI - Car and helicopter The Fall Guy pickup Dukes of Hazzard - PC means this won't happen Starsky and Hutch Wacky Races Mask Babylon 5 Can't believe such a crap set like BGGT got made, when there's so many more cooler sets out there to be made still. Love the fact that minifigures for movies/TV from these generations are creeping in with Dimensions, BA, ET, Beetlejuice, Gremlins, would love to see even more.1 point

I'm just going to copy pasta you, because exactly this. Hanna Barbera stuff would be awesome. You just need one iconic set piece from each with the main characters and you're done. Like the Flintstones car with four minis and Dino. Or the Jetsons "car." If you wanted to do a mega set, you could do Yogi's flying ark and include a bunch of the characters (anyone remember that?) Wacky Racers were also HB, so you could throw those in there too.1 point

You miss 100% of the shots you dont take. Either now or 10+ yrs from now. No harm in putting it up for 2xrrp and see what you get for offers. Test the waters!1 point

Padda's reign at Lego didn't last too long. https://brickset.com/article/29843 The LEGO Group today announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Niels B. Christiansen, 51, as CEO of the LEGO Group effective October 1, 2017. Christiansen was most recently CEO of global industrial technology company, Danfoss, a position he held for nine years until end of June 2017. Christiansen replaces Bali Padda, 61, a long-standing LEGO Group executive, who will assume a special advisory role with LEGO Brand Group. Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, Executive Chairman of LEGO Brand Group said, ‘Niels is a great leader who delivered outstanding results while CEO of Danfoss. There, he transformed a traditional industrial company into a technology leader. His experience in digitalisation and globalisation, implementing a transformative strategy, and creating an agile, high performing, international team will benefit the LEGO Group. The Board is confident that under Niels, the LEGO Group will continue to flourish and bring play experiences to more children around the world.’ Knudstorp said the transition to a new CEO occurred more rapidly than the Board had anticipated. "Bali has been part of the LEGO Group family for the past 15 years. He played an integral role in the turnaround of the LEGO Group and during his time as CEO created a solid foundation from which to continue to transform the company. He is a great friend and a wonderful ambassador for the LEGO brand," said Knudstorp. Niels B. Christiansen has spent more than 25 years in business leadership. He began his career at management consultancy, McKinsey and power tools manufacturer, Hilti, and became CEO of GN Netcom aged 33. He joined Danfoss in 2004 and became CEO in 2008. During his tenure, the company doubled in size to 39 billion DKK, increased its global footprint and transformed its portfolio in response to changing customer demands. Danfoss is a family-owned, Danish-based global technology company which specializes in infrastructure, food supply, energy efficiency and climate-friendly technology solutions. Christiansen said: "I am honoured to have the opportunity to join an organisation as iconic and purpose-driven as the LEGO Group. I have loved building with LEGO bricks since I was a child. As I look at the challenges facing this generation of children, the Group’s mission, to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow, is more important and urgent than ever. I am looking forward to working with the Board, the family and the LEGO Group team as we embark on the next phase of global growth." About Niels B. Christiansen Niels has broad experience leading large, global high-tech companies. He was most recently President & CEO of Danfoss A/S, a position he left in June 2017. Niels joined Danfoss in 2004 as Executive Vice President and a member of the Executive Committee for Danfoss A/S. He became Chief Operating Officer in 2005, Vice-CEO in 2006 and President & CEO in 2008. Niels began his career as a management consultant at McKinsey & Co. Following this he joined Hilti Corp as Vice President Corporate Development. In 1997, he joined GN Netcom, moving to the role of President & CEO in 2000. In 2003, he was appointed Group Executive Vice President at GN Store Nord. He is Chairman of the Board of William Demant Holding A/S and Axcel and a Member of the Board of AP Møller-Maersk A/S and Technical University of Denmark (DTU).1 point

I can never understand this argument. Look at modern military vehicles, have they changed that much from their predecessors, no, they've just gotten bigger. Look at aircraft carriers or tanks, basic look or shape hasn't changed much since world war 2.1 point

I think people are highly overestimating the amount of buyers who are looking to spend $1k+ on a set. Obviously a lot less people will be able to afford scooping up UCS Falcons to resell compared to most other sets, but there will still be enough that this will be no different than any other set where people will be fighting for the slimmest margins possible in no time.1 point

You have to wonder why they keep pumping down those buildable figures, and sets like bionocles. Those things never seem to sell well. Next we will have "Brickheadz", which are just a terrible attempt to tap into the funko pop craze. In the Star Wars realm, i'd say that last years Droid Escape, Hoth Attack, and resistance x-wing were 3 sets that were completely unnecessary along with all the buildable figures. There were 43 sets when you take in Buildables (9 sets), regular sets (28), UCS (2), and microfighters (6). I think the microfighters are very popular, but I don't think many of the buildables are. I constantly see those on clearance and few buy them. Of the buildables that retired, only Grievous seems to be shooting up. This year, it's the A-wing, revised Desert Skiff, and Landspeeder sets. The freemaker adventures are also duds, as I never see those sets selling in my local walmarts, and week after week they sit there with the same stock always in place, just like the buildables. Most of the other sets move, although captain rex's at-te is one that seems to shelfwarm quite a bit. The Rogue One sets seem popular because they sell out quite a lot and over the holiday season they were gone and hard to come by in December. Overall, I think they had just the right mix of Rogue One sets, but they over did it with Force Awakens. Sometimes less is more, and I hope they trim the Star Wars offerings to where they produce about 20 normal sets per year, with 1 big UCS vehicle set, and 1 UCS playset. I think that is fair. They need to cut the human characters from the buildable line and just stick with figures that make more sense for that sort of thing like Vader, Grievous etc.1 point

Personally I find the Parisian Restaurant the most beautifully and strongly designed Modular. It is a cohesive design, with excellent details both inside and outside. As a movies-fan I like the PC theme (cinema) but am not 100% sold on the execution of the design. It has some downsides that reduce overall attractiveness. Like many have said here, and multiple times too, PS is one of a kind in that you can have multiple of the housing side in a street and it will look great. It's a great selling point of the PS set.1 point
