  1. Destinys Bounty from Ninjago Movie. Unbelievably enjoyable build and when you consider it's only 2/3 price of Silent Mary it's incredible value. The Dragons heads are fantastic.

  9. I think that the knockoffs have hurt this set. Also, I think there is general Lego fatigue that has affected the values of many recently retired exclusives. This may not be a popular opinion, but IMO there is nowhere to go but down now. I had 7 or 8 of these and sold some at $1000ish to get down to 3 left. I just sold one for $839 on ebay. I am selling one more at that price and keeping the last one to build some day. I will be happy to get out now before the price drops further.

  10. What an amazing build! Took us around 6 hours. The payoff on Step 236 of the yellow and red modified plate placement in Step 155 absolutely blew my mind. Bag Seven was a work of art. This set is solid gold, my favorite to date.

  12. The LEGO Buzz is just over. For years, LEGO couldn't keep up with the required supply, and now that they have the ability to create the necessary supply (for a demand that is no longer there), they can't stop. Add to that the remakes, or even just the threat of the inevitable remake (since nothing is safe), and the counterfeits (even though I don't believe that the serious buyers buy them), there are certainly lots of resellers being scared into selling their inventory early (which inevitably weighs down on performance).

  13. Besides the knockoffs and possibility of remakes, I think the over-saturation angle is the biggest negative for all STAR WARS collectibles. If you told me that 5 years ago, I would have said you were nuts. But how much STAR WARS crap do people need?

  14. The counterfeits have hurt this set disproportionately more then others. If you look at sold listings on eBay for Super Star Destroyer (yes you can search by "lego 10221 USA only" but not sure your average buyer does this) only 1 of the last 12 sold are lego. BL looks like an average of 2 sold new units in the USA per month this year. If you look at direct sales of Sold units of the leading counterfeit brand from the number one selling store the SSD has almost 50% more sales then the next UCS model which is the MF. With over 700 units sold by just the top 3 sellers someone is buying them. You can say that true AFOLs would never buy counterfeits, but what I think it has done to their mindset is decrease the urgency to buy before the set dries up and/or the price gets too high so the sets sits and prices fall. Add to that the overproduction of SW sets and remakes and who would want to drop a grand on one.

  29. I wish that were the case. I have a great local base that I have given good deals to for years due to their continued purchases. I've lost a handful of my best AFOLs to the allure of lower costs. One told me something to the tune of "it's gotten to the point where the cost for something you're going to open and display isn't worth the risk of depreciation. Why spend 8-10 times the cost for these retired UCS sets when I can buy an identical one that I never have to sell? I'll lose more in depreciation in a few years while the prices continue to fall, than I will buying a knockoff." The point that hit me the hardest, outside of losing yet another high spender, is the that I can see his point. Buying something at a very high cost, that you have to sell to take the same or a greater loss, than you would buying junk that can be made into the same model that you can keep without the large investment. Looking at the knockoff distributor website it looks like they have vendors who can send you a SSD for less than $80 shipped. By the time you're hit by fees and shipping on a SSD, you're nearly down $80 as it is... and that's if you can sell it for what you paid. It doesn't surprise me at all, as Pseudoty found, that the top 3 sellers of the knockoffs have sold over 700 units, and that only 1 of the last 12 sold was authentic. I don't even want to take a guess at how many are selling on the knockoff distributor site. Many have said that true collectors will not buy this garbage, well I know a few that were true collectors for years that have changed sides... and the availabilty of these cheap duplicates ensures that many never have a chance to become true collectors. If everything is cheap and available they never have to pine over any set. Why scrape for a UCS Falcon when you can get one shipped to your door for less than $200? On a positive note... I guess ... even the buyers who have dipped into the knockoff pool have a price limit. They continue to buy pretty much all the mid level priced sets anyways.

  39. Well, the construction is moving along at the moment. Though, always expect the unexpected in this line of work... "Carol, where's my green syringe? It had the experimental drug in...it...HOLY MOTHERFU-" "Ermm...Doctor, did you hear something?" "Nope." "Steady as she goes, guys. Just connect it slowly. This isn't rocket science..." "Except it is, boss. Can you lend us a hand?" "No, I can't. I'm supervising. It's what I do. Supervise." "This thing isn't so heavy!" "Speak for yourself, you're using one hand, Bob! WHAT THE BRICK?!" "Oh, that makes sense..." "Oh hey, Ellen. I gave the Captain the inoculation for the space sickness!" "CAROL! That wasn't it! THAT WAS MY EXPERIMENTAL RADIATION DRUG!" "...Oh...dear..."
