I didn't want my 10179 buyer to have a terrible time hunting for bricks during his build. Thus I created a MS Paint app inspired drawing. It tells what sections of the ship are in what bag. While helpful, my 7 year old said he can do better note; the tear down took 1 hour (did it carefully) which is a tiny fraction of the length it took to build and filled 12 UPS envelopes. each bag was 1/4 to 1/3 filled. The 2 masts were sandwiched between 2 pieces of hard poster-board.

It's all about the quality and variety of the sets. Harry Potter had a wide variety of sets that included creative vehicles, landmarks and characters. LOTR sets were more based on rocks, bushes and wood. Vehicles sell and appreciate well in any theme. The LOTR sets have few worthwhile vehicles.

But when they were given the possibility for a vehicle, they didn't take it. I'm looking at you Oliphant and Fell Beast(no cars in Middle Earth). They were in the latter two movies and shown prominently in the largest battle of the movies but hey, at least we got that boat with Peter Jackson on it ?

Most people here are not amateurs, they'll need full set lists to take you seriously, if you want to move in bulk. Provide a full list and a price and you'll move more quickly. List like this, and you'll hear mostly from people trying to pick the lowest hanging fruit for the lowest possible price. It'll take a while. The more sophisticated your listing, the more sophisticated offers you'll get.

It's funny that anyone thinks TLG would be releasing sets that they aren't making sufficient margins on. I'd go the other way and say that sets like this show you how much they overcharge for most everything else.

Hi everyone! I'm new to the world of Lego investments but have been a lifelong fan. I used to compete in Lego speed building competitions in CA. I have many sets from Bionicle and Star Wars Ultimate Collectors Series that were my initial childhood collections but I'm trying to expand and sort through bulk to rebuild used sets and sell them for profit. Also it would be great if I could get advice from anyone on how to list and display my sets for sale online. I have an ebay and amazon store, but no clue on how to describe products to a professional standard. Is there a place here where anyone might be able to list products for sale? I'm open to any and all suggestions!

Those look like they're from the Advent colander. On BL they've been moving at $4-5, depending how it's listed. If you want to move quantity, you'll have to think lower. If you want to sell them to someone here, much lower. It's a OT character, not sure what will boost interest in it. But there's a lot available. 2016 Advent was heavily hoarded.

No joke. How a version of Sauron was never made is beyond me. Lego really screwed up LotR with the sets that they made and we've seen countless lists of wants from fans only to get crap like Pirate Ship Ambush which is in the regular film for about 5 seconds.. Outside of Unexpected Gathering, Hobbit sets were pretty bad as well. Lego did very will with Harry Potter sets but I feel they had more to work with there as well. More building locations to work with and vehicles to make. Even then they had lots of remakes. 3 trains and 4 castles(5 if you count Battle for Hogwarts).

I've sold enough sets that I'm familiar with the weight of a box, and I always estimate high. I quote a max price. For new buyers I often tell them, this is an estimate, I guarantee it won't be more than this. If it is, I'll refund the difference. I seldom refund, but I have and they never complain. Most seem quite pleased. Also, I recycle boxes. 99% of the time. My garage was getting full of un-flattened boxes. So one day, when my wife had enough, I went in with a razor, a tape measure and a baby scale and weighed each box as I flattened them and wrote it by their measurements. Next time, I'll write them down on a separate piece paper and input them on to spread sheet. A 12x10x10 box will pretty much weigh the same regardless who made it.

Estimate packaging weights based on the order and determine the shipping based on that. I've become good at this through experience. Occasionally I'll underestimate on a very large order since I get few of those, but that hurts less due to the volume of the order, and then we're talking about eating maybe 1-2 extra pounds of shipping on a 20+ pound order anyway. Edit: I assumed you're asking from the seller point of view. If you're asking from the buyer point of view, just request quote before placing order. You can either do this using the "Request a Quote" feature by adding items to cart and choosing that option or you can e-mail the seller (some disable the request a quote option for who knows what reason). Edit edit: Unreasonable shipping fees are a valid reason for a buyer to cancel an order on Bricklink, IF the seller does not spell out shipping fees in their store terms.

Just one item, but it's my Father's Day present (which seems to be a tradition to get me a boat on Father's Day): Now comes the crazy math time: $199.99 on the floor. $117.07 out the door, after $20 in Rewards, 15% off coupon, 10% TRUTH, a throwing a couple of gift cards at it that were bought at either 15% or 20% off. 41% off. I'll take it!

This is one of the old LEGO Star Wars builds where the usage of odd colors (in this case blue) looks stylish in a way. Being a good design to begin with also helps.

I need to find another local reseller. I am not a super big reseller but I sure buy like one. I sell here and there and I totally missed the Amazon wagon. So I have a buddy who makes his entire living selling on Amazon. I met him when we was responding to one of my CL selling ads. He lives about 5 hrs away and can only make it down here once or twice a year. It's nice because when he comes he spends atleast $3000. I get to make room and free up money to buy more. I sell sets to him at a fair price. I make money but still leaves meat on the bone for him to profit aswell. Problem is my buying outpaces his buying.. Lol. I may have to start up a Bricklink store. I really don't want to have to return to selling on eBay. I hate shipping things and getting ripped off. I will take a hit to profit before going through all that again.

Probably not a good idea, because I've been burned a few times (wasted time), but I generally will pick and pack, then send an invoice so I can provide an accurate shipping cost. It's burned me a couple of times when the buyer doesn't pay or cancels because of shipping costs. You have to remember the marketplace you are buying on. On eBay, my pricing includes additional costs - eBay fees, included postage. On BL, I can charge a lot less, because the fees are a lot lower (10% vs 3%) and I make the buyer pay shipping. That's the downside, as a seller though. Because you could order sets on Amazon and not pay for shipping and you're ordering sets on BL and suddenly paying $50 in shipping costs. But you definitely need to even the playing field to compare pricing.

Finished building this today. Very fast build since there aren't a lot of pieces. Still love the design and I think it displays very very well. Can't believe it's 15+ year old set.

ahh miss the old days. Last vacation I took more than a weekend was back in 2005. Went to Poconos for about 5 days. Came back to about 300 orders to ship. Back then didn't matter. No one cared. Now I'm tied to my metrics.

For you rockers out there, today's job

Recently I got back from a duty in Nigeria and bought some retired sets for myself (thanks to the allowance). One of these sets is set 10027 "Train Engine Shed". After I received the set I dismantled it, washed the bricks and base plates and started building. During the building I found several parts were used which are not original and some parts were missing. Still need to order those. Nevertheless I am very very happy with this set. A great appearance and it looks great on display. One day I will use it for my future City. Luckily I found out the Emerald Night (another set I bought after my duty) cannot pass it due to the width. A major crash has been avoided . Cheers!

Just finished building mine today. Lots of little repetitions along the way but it is such a great build with bonkers techniques all along the way that you can't help but stay absorbed by it. It looks fabulous and by about half way I had already decided it NEEDS a custom built case to display it in. Just need to decide whether it will be vertical or horizontal. I love it

I bought one of these ages ago and stuck it in the loft, hoping to sell it after retirement and make a little profit. Built the new carousel (10257) this week and just had to build the Ferris Wheel as well, so out of the loft it came! I have no willpower! Both of these fantastic sets complement each other superbly. I'm looking forward to the next release in the "theme", hopefully it will be some sort of roller coaster.

From my experience selling over 150 used sets in the past 2 years, I can say with absolute certainty (based on the statements left in my feedback) that people really DO value a nicely broken down, sorted and easy to build used set. I've even had people message me thanking me for the good organizing etc. Some of those people have come back and bought more. Depends how invested into this you are. The guys just ramming chunks of sets back into original box (or bags) comes across as the yardsale online type of seller, half assed and likely not going to help you out if something goes wrong.... whereas I'm trying to treat it like a professional small retail business to the best of my abilities. That means putting more time (work) into making shiny listings, but I believe it's allowed me to sell my used sets at much higher than (BP's) recommended prices. People perceive value in a good pre-build verification and take-down sort with nice photos to back it up. That value is in my pocket now

I made a quick overview in Excel just now using data taken from Brickset: I ignored the previous CUUSOO sets and only took the official Ideas sets. As you can see 21301 (Birds), which retired at the year-end of 2015, set a trend of Ideas sets retiring by end of the year. With a massive retirement of 5 Ideas sets all retiring by end of 2016! So I stick to my hunch that both Caterham Seven and Beatles Submarine could get retired by end of 2017 / early 2018.
