  1. Picked up a used lot 2 months ago containing the Black Pearl and Queen Anne's Revenge. Built both over the last 2 weeks prior to watching the new movie with my son. The builds went pretty fast since this was my 3rd time building a BP and 2nd building the QAR since 2013. I'll be modifying the BP with an extra hull element soon. Other than that, I have many extra canons for each ship Both are displayed in my son's room since they are "for play". 2 POTC ships down and 1 Silent Mary to go.
  2. Took a break from Technic and built the UCS Tie. Fun build, sturdier than it looks.
  3. Finished the AT AT today
  4. I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't go on a mini vaca out of town and not check local lego on apps and check Walmart lol. Found 3 more tie strikers for 17 (bringing my total to 20 all @ 17) and some other smaller sets 50-75% off. I also hoped on letgo and found someone selling black pearl and queen ANN. It was from a month ago so figured it sold but took the time to message them and to my surprise they still had them. Picked them both up 100% complete for 160 for the 2 ships. Judging by eBays prices I did very well.
  5. I agree. At least put some effort into it. ...like this.
  6. We just finished our Carousel, too. I'll add a couple of what the 3 fairground sets like like together (plus a petting zoo, Friends cotton candy stand, etc.) (sorry about the poor lighting): Also built the new Wonder Woman set (and added some other Justice League members to the fray):
  7. My son finally finished off the Seacow. Our first ever ship and , I have to say , I'm very impressed. Love the colours and the ship design. So used to SW grey and black , it's great to see other colours in a set . Much bigger than I had imagined when the hull pieces were first put together.
  8. Thanks, and sure; it's nothing fancy: Since I was at it anyways -- one more angle on the fairgrounds. My wife decided to take a float around the area on Joker's balloon contraption lol
  9. 4 hours in line but worth it. His last appearance anywhere I believe and they only sold like a 100 signatures.
  10. Open for business! I loved this build. Looks great in the modular setting. Ferris Wheel is next, excited to see how they look together.
  11. Two of next wave's sets, over half a year early. - 709XX - Egghead's Food Fight - Condiment King, Egghead, 709XX - Batman Dune Buggy - Batman, Captain Boomerang
  12. I thought it was about time to finally create two more editions to my minifigure wall from my favourite Films! These have been a few months in the making and a lot of thought and deliberation has gone into which figures to include and from which sets. I've tried to go 'rare' where financially possible and wanted 21 figures for each frame. The only one I would look to change at present is to remove Ugnaught and replace with Admiral Piett from the UCS SSD but I just couldn't warrant the price tag this figure holds. I'd love to hear from you guys regards what you would have done differently. I went for the following, enjoy the pics: Empire: Vader - UCS Death Star Boba Fett - UCS Slave 1 Emperor - UCS Death Star Stormtrooper - UCS Death Star Imperial Guard - UCS Death Star Tarkin - UCS Death Star Jawa - UCS Sandcrawler Scout Trooper - Ewok Village Snow Trooper - 2016 Advent Calendar Gamorrean Guard - Jabbas Palace Bib Fortuna - Jabbas Palace Tie Fighter Pilot - UCS Tie Fighter Greedo - Mos Eisley Tuskan Raider - Luke Speeder Bossk - UCS SSD Dengar - UCS SSD Imperial Officer - UCS Death Star General Veers - motorised AT AT Imperial Gunner - UCS Death Star Death Star Gunner - UCS Death Star Ugnaught - Freeze Chamber Jedi Han Solo - UCS Death Star Luke Skywalker - UCS Sandcrawler Princess Leia - UCS Death Star Chewie - UCS Death Star Lando - A Wing R2 - UCS Death Star C3PO - UCS Death Star Obi Wan - UCS Death Star Yoda - Yoda Fighter Wicket - Ewok Village Scout Trooper - Tantive IV Dak Ralter - Snowspeeder Admiral Ackbar - A Wing Mon Mothma - Calamari Cruiser Wedge Antillies - UCS Attack on Hoth Wes Janson - UCS Attack on Hoth Rebel Commando - Ewok Village Hoth Rebel - UCS Attack on Hoth Uncle Owen - UCS Sandcrawler Ten Numb - B Wing R3 A2 - UCS Attack on Hoth
  13. This Minifigure is worth it alone just for the tighty whities.
  14. Best $10 (multiply by X) you could have spent in 2015
  15. Lately every chance I'm near LLDC, I go in to buy the same thing. Today was no different. yellow submarine for $48 plus $4 corncob guy (always smooshing for him or for rocket boy but so far only corncob guys found) to reach $50 and get free r3-m2 droid polybag. May be little early investing in this ideas set but hard to beat that price after selling droid poly.
  16. We moved late last year, so the city has been able to expand: Couple of fun close-ups, Avengers: Grocery War Fantasy courtyard:
  17. Also for @Val-E @Pseudoty who helped me with this So I spoke to brickset and found a solution. Now for this solution you'd have to accept that Brickset's "LAST SOLD ON LEGO.COM" = retirement date. If you accept that, then this works to filter sets by year for retirement. You simply make your own search query, you need to be logged in for this. https://brickset.com/queries Create a new query and dictate the And/Or statement as need be, in this case I did "last sold on lego.com on and after 1/1/16 and before 12/31/16"... that grabs all the "retired" sets from 2016. Repeat for each year you want. I also modified a few other specifications like no Lego Dimension Figures. Create CSV and boom you have a spreadsheet. Here is my 2016 query (I did the same with 2014 & 2015) https://brickset.com/sets/query-3605 Now, to your point about set values, yes I will still have to pull them manually via bricklink. I plan to grab every 6 months for older years and for 2016 I will do every month this year. Tedious? Yes of course. Worth it? I am sure many of you will say no haha But in the end I love organization and I don't mind spending the time on it. Plus it helps me play catchup on all the sets the past few years. See attached screen for where I am taking this. ?
  18. I dunno about you guys but I'm not falling for it.
  19. How many cheese slopes can they fit on one of these?

Not great pictures, but they gives you an idea. I built this with my two boys.
  21. When RE was first previewed people were speculating that already, but it was largely dismissed. Maybe it was too early for some to believe, but I'm not even totally sure if it's Lego
  22. Built 70911 penguins arctic roller with my 4 year old Batman has no cape as the 2 year old has a tendency to yank them off! Lovely looking finished build apart from a minor annoyance... I get why Lego goes multicoloured on the inside but IMO this should not be visible during display OR play.
  23. Check out the official pictures of sommer set 75180... on the backside at the right of the box. I think this could be the new MF UCS.
  24. Is this to prove it's a fake?
  25. If any SoCal BPers are still awake, Win It! app is 1000 points right now [emoji6]
  26. Went out and picked up some Walmart clearance while visiting my sister's family for the weekend. They also had some friends visiting who have an 8 yo who was pretty keen on my Lego enterprise, so I gave him one of the Death Trooper buildables and helped him a little with the build. It was pretty nice. Not sure why these buildables don't do better. He loved it

Orko from Trolan by Alex Jones
  28. Well it isn't a house but would fit into the setup nicely. Equestrian Statue
  29. I'd do the same if I could. LLFL had no droids [emoji20]

No. Your memory is accurate. Bea is just a force ghost now while Betty is the Last Jedi
  31. Smaller in physical size...more detailed...more pieces...higher MSRP seems to be the new order of the day.
  32. If that´s your own work then I think you have an excellent shot at working for TLG´s City Fire and Police Station R+D team. Don´t forget the helicopter.
  33. Well, this could be the first step in TLG´s masterplan for marketing by getting the hype going with such a small picture and building up over the next few months, teaser by teaser. I´ll keep an open mind.
  34. Can it be more pixelated ? Joke aside, can't tell much with that resolution, but huskers' right, if it's real, it's pretty dull
  35. Saw the POTC film today. Def not a tank Depp's recent films and other blockbuster fiction (looking at you Warner Bros). I would prob rank it the 2nd best in the series. Knightly's Swan character wasn't even needed / missed in the film. Instead, that scene felt forced. 4 out of 5 stars from me. Def surpassed my expectations. The Silent Mary and it's crew were awesome. More interesting than the QAR and Flying Dutchman ships and their crews in my opinion. I like that Lego took a risk with this set and didn't rehash another "for play" Black Pearl. Lego should take more risks like this one.
  36. My son swooshes his all the time and it's fairly sturdy.
  37. I finished this set yesterday, new favorite set. It's fantastic as a model, and yuuge.

If you just want to see how fast a set grows after retirement it's generally adequate to keep track of price data and quantity sold per month. This will give you a pretty good indication of when the set became unavailable. You'll see a spike in sold quantity around the point it becomes unavailable and generally a slight increase in price post retirement. Even just price data might be enough for most sets. Here are some examples. Sydney Opera House on the left and Wall-E on the right: It's not always very clear, but for 90% of sets it is enough. For example, Scooby's Mansion is a bit less clear because there weren't as much sales and the peak is spread out over several months: The data is from bricklink.
  39. I just finished 8037 Anakin's Y-Wing. It is part of a large Star Wars lot I picked up a few months ago. This is the first build I haven't enjoyed since getting back into Lego. It was repetitive and I'm fairly confident that the engines will fall off if I look at it the wrong way!
  40. If the buyer reads that whole paragraph, I'd be mighty impressed. I couldn't get past a couple lines before my eyes started to wander and my brain started saying "ack." I mean this respectfully, but if you don't want to claim the set is 100% complete, avoid using "100%" anywhere in your description. We all know buyers don't read descriptions. Keep it simple... "Adult owned, not guaranteed to be complete - i.e. it may have missing pieces and I did not verify the included pieces against the parts list. In good condition and will be shipped partially disassembled." Nobody cares if you built it (though some do like the adult built part) or had it in a closet for a year. ALSO - You really should ship disassembled unless specifically requested by the buyer. Greater chance to have stuff bounce around and get scratched up. If I opened a box with a bunch of partially built sections and some loose bits, I'll likely be frustrated right from the start trying to figure out how to build the damn thing (or that I have to take it apart just to get the build enjoyment).
  41. Unfortunately you let your emotions get the better of you in your response. Always avoid using accusatory terms like "You did this, You said that..." We (BPers) don't doubt that you are a AFOL, but the person buying your set doesn't care. (usually) Since you communicated directly through ebay, ebay will see the communication chain. Before you take the next step call ebay and talk with them. They'll look over the correspondence, the listing and your track record and help make a viable recommendation for you. Just be prepared for ebay to not rule in your favor. Hopefully this wont be the case, but still... If it was me I'd approve the return and move on. As others have said, it's the cost of doing business on ebay.
  42. Ghostbusters Firehouse: Been working on this a couple hours a night. Scored it a few nights back off Craigslist, for $250. The box was destroyed, but the seller let me check all bags! Been building 1 bag number set each night, on bags #5 tonite. I am quite surprised at the level of detail inside. The quality of the build is superb,(i have never built a modular building). That window AC unit build not having ANY detail or sticker/print is driving me nuts. But I should be able to come up with something off an extra sticker sheet I have laying around. Onward to the second floor!
  43. Due to all the Star Wars hype lately I decided to dig this one out the vault, really love this set!
