lastly, i would like to mention that if anyone is looking at the "average part out value" of bricklink to decide and part out set. [ please be advised that you are in for a rude awakening ] pick up any part and look at its prices. let me give an example for a part that's in demand. black 1X1 https://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?P=3005&colorID=11 lets look at the sales in month of april [because that's the data we have for the nearest whole month] Times Sold: 681 Total Qty: 56688 Min Price: US $0.01 Avg Price: US $0.09 Qty Avg Price: US $0.08 Max Price: US $0.24 lets look at what how many were sold in 0,01 -> 0,05 => 2,839 [5%] 0,06 -> 0,08 => 29,637 [52%] 0,09 -> 0,09 => 18,441[32%] 0,10 -> 0,12 => 4,593 [8%] 0,13 -> 0,15 => 861 [2%] 0,15 -> 0,24 => 376 [1%] for a high demand part only 32% of sale is at the average price. only 11% is above average. and more than 5% at the range below 50% of average price. and about 52% sales are around 11%->33% below average price. take a look at part with high supply and relatively low demand. for example: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?P=4592c02&colorID=86 Times Sold: 286 Total Qty: 8253 Min Price: US $0.00 Avg Price: US $0.02 Qty Avg Price: US $0.01 Max Price: US $0.07 0,00 -> 0,00 => 16 [0.1%] 0,01 -> 0,01 => 5,440 [66%] 0,02 -> 0,02 => 1,750[21%] 0,03 -> 0,04 => 1,006 [12%] 0,05 -> 0,07 => 23 [0.2%] only 21% of the sales actually happened at the average price. while 66% of sales happened at a 0,01 only 12% above the average price. its fairly consistent that only 12% of sales happen above average price and at higher multiple of average price quantity falls exponentially. make what you want of this data and its presentation. so "average part out value" is not really something that one can make an intelligent choice. yes, it may be a data-point to go by but as i said before [ one is in for a big surprise if that is what you are relying on ]5 points

So.... This set was not particularly high on my wanted list but I found this offer on eBay and was like, OK, let's try the adventure of buying a lot and bricklink a set Seller said that he bought 3/4 of the parts off the pick a brick in the LEGO Shop at Home. I think it's a terrible way to go unless you're buying rare pieces. Told me that it cost him 300 euros. Bought this for 95 euros with shipping. I already know that the minifig and the sticker will set me 100 euros. Now It's a bet on whether the missing part are pricey or not. I read intensely Brick by Brick, Breaking Down Expensive Lego Sets: 10212 UCS Imperial Shuttle post by @thoroakenfelder (Thanks a lot) and I know that the pricey 32 White Technic Lift Arm 1X7 Bent and 8 Light Bluish Gray 40 Tooth Technic Gear are included as you can see in the picture. If seller stick to the part list, 4 Trans Clear Technic Gearbox 2x4x3 1/3 should also be inside. I think the last pricey element would be the 10 White slope 2x2x3 Double Convex which most of them form the nose of the shuttle and the support and which I do not see in the picture I'll take the bullet on that. Anyway, I'll let you guys know how how it goes once I'll have my hands on it and did the full inventory Thanks again for this great community!4 points

1. its not easy as it sounds. 2. its more than 200+ lots probably people with million parts can elaborate and explain why its a tough work & sell especially bricklink partout. [ while $ could be made but its a known fact that one can't sell everything in any set. even when i have parts listed for 0.0001 its a hard sell sometimes. ] its not as easy as buying set @ 50% off and dumping it off at 20% less than retail when everyone pounces on them.3 points

I hate bricklink for not taking action against these practices. It is their fault this has become such a popular tactic among sellers. This should be a bannable offense as it is clearly a form of deception. First of all, you are tricking people by making the items appear cheaper than they actually are. Second, it is unfair competition for honest sellers.3 points

Consider the downside of people knowing your home address and that you have high dollar lego sets contained within. Even if you're a gun owner / have a great security system / etc, I just don't like that info being out there.2 points

having looked at the number of sales and prices on parts. my opinion sellers that have thrived at the part out business is because a. their cost basis of inventory is close to $0. [ otherwise based on time put in sorting; its highly unlikely that anyone can make even minimum wage ] and yes i am one of those stupid ones who got into this and learned it the hard way. while i never reached the honorable stores in bricklink but my guesstimate is if one can sell about $4k of part/month they can crack the top 10 sellers in US. i have sold 160 lots order for $35 while it may sound like $35 profit but its an actual wash order lol.. i am not trying to discourage people to get into new venture but want to caution them that its not for everyone . while 0.03c/part might give oneself bright idea of getting into part-out business thinking that it can be turned into 0,10/part easily and that's whooping 300%+ return. time value is really lopsided in this. if same amount of time is invested in learning another trade one might have better ROI.2 points

I'm mostly out of the part out business. I've had enough. By my second 100+ piece order for under $10 profit, I decided it wasn't worth my time. But there's always someone out their ready to make their first mistake. And I like to provide people with the opportunity, and point them in the right direction.2 points

The problem is that EBay is an intermediary, and needs to rely on the honesty of its sellers and buyers. They went too far on one side (favoring sellers), then swayed towards favoring buyers, and now need to find the middle ground. The problem is that unless they are instating a GSP stop for _all_ transactions via EBay, they won't have control over what is sent. And even a GSP-like intermediary doesn't help against the "playboy and old socks" in a proper LEGO box scam. I have mentioned this before - there should be an intermediary option for sellers (or buyers) to opt into, where items get evaluated by a third party, weighed, perhaps X-ray scanned where possible to ensure all is kosher, with a thorough warranty. I could envision an automated system that produces all these datapoints for a given package, and only the outliers get filtered out and manually inspected. The question is, however, would people really want to pay for this?2 points

If you don't have a lot of slow selling sets, you could also probably get together with a couple of other BrickPickers in the area and do a joint garage sale. That way it could be worthwhile to actually do the garage sale, make it big enough for people to want to come to the sale and advertise that it is a "multiple home Lego garage sale". Just label the sets with different colored price stickers (so each person knows who gets their money), and spend the Saturday hanging with some like minded Lego fans. We did this in our neighborhood, but with the kids baby clothes. We did not have enough clothes to make the garage sale big enough for people to come, so we partnered with two or three other families. We put up the garage sale on Fri/Saturday, all the kids had a play date and had some family/friend together time while clearing some space and making a few bucks. Back on topic: I haven't sold anything in a while2 points

One of my local kmarts is fighting back. Clearance (only bionicles left) Lego went from 50% off to 30% off and now its 15% off. Wth2 points

I set up some sets at my wife's yard sales. I can always move Chima, super heroes, and bionicles that I can't sell elsewhere. People bring their kids along who see it and go nuts, or they buy for their grandkids. They are surprised when I tell them that the sets are new. I usually dont keep anymore than 1 of any set out. I sell one, and then grab another to put out. That way it doesn't look like I am one of those people who bought a bunch of stuff on clearance and trying to make a buck off someone else, even though I obviously am!2 points
