  1. My kids’ birthday is coming up soon and Dad does not like to give the usual gift bags. Last year I found Mixels on sale and mixed in (no pun intended) a few Series 15 minifigs for the gift bag thing. This year the Target BOGO 40% sale hit at the right time and a bit of inspiration hit me. Today I bought two of the 61034 City People in Park sets for $47.18 total and got the minifigs I need for the birthday party. Looking forward to keeping the leftover minfigs for us! Maybe this post will help other BPers and give them ideas for their kid’s birthday parties. This community rocks!

  3. I'm in Canada visiting family for Passover - stopped at a Lego store and got Joker and Batman Brickheadz along with the Y Wing and U Wing Microfighters. Because of the price in Toronto it broke the $50 canadian barrier and I also got a Beetle Promo set. With the US Exchange rate I ended up getting all of that for about $43.50 American.

  5. Trying to contribute more, this is the latest MOC I've completed. It's been around a few months and I'm trying to figure out how to get better pictures while having no lighting equipment. It's a Neo Futuron spaceship named "Deep Space Sentinel." I had the trans-blue dome panels from old sets and I've always wanted to make a spaceship cockpit with them. It got a little bigger than I'd originally planned. The hardest part was getting a stand built. It meant I had to keep it mostly un-assembled while I figured out a decent stand. I want to do the same thing with the other 80's-90's space themes; make giant spaceships.

  6. Proposal: create a mirror thread called Daily Deals Discussion. Put some code in that copies each entry in DD to that thread (and a sticky to the DDD thread in DD). Then moderate the DD and delete non-deal posts, while allowing discussion in DDD

  16. As with most Lego promotions, you must spend a required amount of money to get the 'free' item. Many folks also use promotion stacking on http://shop.lego.com which is the process of spending just enough money to earn multiple promotional items. After waiting too long to order products at shop.lego.com to obtain the popular 40252 Mini VW Beetle promotion (sold-out online), I visited my local Lego mall store. This store had current promotional sets available including 40252 and the 40265 LEGO Friends Tic Tac Toe set. The purchase requirements were to spend $50+ for the VW Beetle set and $20+ in Friends items for the Tic Tac Toe polybag. Both are popular items and make nice child Easter gifts (especially for my 2 children). While paying, I was told my $62 ($21 of that for Friends items) worth of Lego products wasn't enough to cover both promotional items. The cashier told me their store were given strict rules to enforce around promotional items and I needed to pick one. I ended up going home with the 40252 Mini VW Beetle set. After arriving home, I double-checked if Lego's web site still allowed promotion stacking. It did after added one $59.99 Friends set in my cart. Both Tic Tac Toe and City Helicopter (replacement for the sold-out VW) promotional items were in my cart. I then read a 40252 Mini VW Beetle review where MeganL from brickset mentioned she was able to get both promotions by "doubling up" at a Lego store. http://brickset.com/article/27432 To further determine whether my experience was a mistake or an unannounced in-store change, I contacted Lego customer phone support today. The nice representative informed me that other customers have called with the same question after being denied at their store. At least one store manager told this same representative she was given rules to deny promotions stacking. Her customers could only receive both promotions if they spent $20+ on Friends items plus another $50+ on more Friends or another theme. Please let us know how your local Lego store is currently handling promotion stacking and if it's different than past months. Disclaimer: Not all U.S stores may follow the new rule regarding promotion stacking. Lego's online website, https://shop.lego.com/ automatically stack promotions in the shopping cart before order check-out. Additionally, some stores haven't allowed promotion stacking since their grand opening.

  21. I bought 5 or 6 of the Holiday Bauble 853345 (gold bricks) on clearance a few months back... can't recall what I paid... $2 or $3 each? Have had them on Amazon FBM ever since at the lowest price ($11.90 shipped) and have not sold a single one (despite this being the cheapest Lego ornament I found in a quick search). I was just thinking about opening them up and parting out the bricks. Interesting... the tag says "43 pcs"... I now learned that means 40 bricks + 2 ornament halves + 1 gold ribbon. Doing a little more research, I see that a few are selling on eBay around $10 each... maybe I'll just do that. One other idea... part out the bricks, and sell the empty baubles separately around next Christmas season... perfect for making your own decorations?

  23. saw this built in store today and wow! I went from zero interest to hubba hubba. Not sure I have it in my budget or any space to display it (especially with the impending Snowspeeder) but if I can get a good deal on this someday I definitely want it. Are there pics online of this ship next to the previous 2 POTC ships? I missed out on those but would be curious to see the comparison

  25. Had a n00b buyer on BO requesting a quote for shipping to Greece. Before providing an official quote, I sent her a message giving two options: with or without box, because this was a $20 set and shipping with box would have been ~$25 on top of the cost of the set, but without box I could ship for ~$15. Didn't hear back for 2 days, so decided to just push out the quote for the expensive option. Next day she responds to my message saying she wants the full box experience and she wants to place the order. I explain she needs to accept the quote and complete the sale in BO. In the meanwhile she asks when this will be delivered, to which I give a "roughly 1-2 weeks" estimate. Another day passes, she responds asking "when are you shipping this and when will it be delivered to me?" I reply with a lengthy email explaining to her step by step how she needs to go back to her cart in my store, look up the quote under shipping methods, complete the purchase and pay through PayPal. Silence. Two days later "Sorry, but I want to cancel this order". *Sigh*. Luckily she never placed an order in the first place, but what a hassle ......

  26. It's kind-a meh. I had some rewards to burn, which helped, plus combined with the BOGO40% gave me a good discount ($4 for LEGO worth $33 MSRP). Plus that helped me earn another reward (since the pre-promo price (i.e. shelf price) counts towards the reward).

  28. I was going to say: Who _IS_ buying christmas stuff this time of year, especially when it's not on sale .... but then I sold a christmas bundle (24-in-1 calendar, snowglobe, reindeer poly) on EBay recently so there are people out there who plan ahead. I'm keeping mine (I've got 15 all bought at $2) till closer to the holidays, and if they don't sell (or the market gets flooded, or LEGO decides that this comes back from the dead), I'll part out the bricks.

  38. LEGO is a toy company, who benefit from their toys being collectible, but in the end want to sell toys. Yes, they are re-releasing some "classics", but only those which they think will have immediate, broad appeal and will sell past their production targets. I doubt they will start re-releasing more obscure sets as mentioned before. SW is hot right now, and unless LEGO has a commitment to resellers (which they don't) they would be stupid not to cash in and release a flagship set based on the flagship of the franchise. I often get the impression many of us here think LEGO is making short-sighted decisions, but I don't think they do. They have obviously factored all aspects of their appeal (both to kids and adults) into their product development, plus they are obviously aware of their status as a collectible product, and have many examples from other brands to look at and learn from. If LEGO thinks the time is right to make another MF UCS, I bet they have data to support it will sell well (compared with their targets). The "old" MF UCS will still have value, after all, it was the holy grail for so long, and if you collect you need that one. There might be a small bubble popping for those who bought at $2-$3k with the intent to resell, but for those who bought at retail there remains a nice amount of profit (granted, smeared out over many years) to be had. And if anything, the next holy grail is already out there, be it Taj Mahal, Grand Caroussel (though rumors on its replacement are also swirling), Green Grocer, etc. The thing is, the more people sour on investing in the larger sets (which is what I sense is happening right now), the more likely it is that in 5 years from now one of the currently retiring sets is the next UCS MF. Especially if TLG has to downsize their portfolio since the whole TLM surge in popularity is by now gone - some sets just won't be made again for a long time. Net, this is not the end of the road, just another inevitable change in the marketplace. Adapt or else ....

  40. Mostly the smaller sets with MSRPs between $10 and $20 that are already marked 20% off before the BOGO. Stunt Car and Fishing Boat are new, but many sets similar to those have only been lasting for 1 year over the past few years and the sale gets them down to around $7 and $13.75 for me respectively after tax...when you add in the fact that Target is not applying quantity limits to most of the sets in this sale, it equals a very expensive Sunday morning for me.

  41. Galeria-Kaufhof: You can generate a coupon code at their website. The code will vary from 15-25%. But with a trick you can transform any code to a 25% code. Just replace the first 8 digits from your generated code with this: "5k*m-nEK4-" followed by the last 8 digits of your own generated code! Coupon is valid only for one Item in you basket (If you buy more the code will only apply to the one with the highest price). Payback-users: Don't forget to check for 10x points coupons, it should be automaticaly activated by entering your paybackno. at Galeria-Kaufhof. As always one example: The all hated Death Star => 499,99€ RRP already discounted to 479,99€ with the 25% Coupon it's 359,99€ (and 36€ in Paybackpoints with that 10x points coupon)
