  1. 10 years...10 years have gone by since the original in 2007. Did anyone really think this would be the Holy Grail of kits forever and LEGO would 'honor resellers as the kit soared to $10,000'? HA! I can't believe it took LEGO this long for a remake. I sold my last one two years ago sometime before The Force Awakens. LEGO didn't 'do it to hurt resellers'. They did it to make money. Disney bought Lucas Arts to make money. How old is Mickey Mouse? Nearly 90yrs old, and Disney successfully lobbies Congress to extend US copyright laws every single time Mickey's copyright is about to expire. Also Disney has publicly stated there will be a new Star Wars movie every two years. Do you think that means new starships and new characters every movie? Disney will rehash and rewrite the original characters a million times for 90yrs, just like Mickey, until Han Solo's great great great great great great-grandchildren are flying the Milennium Falcon, and LEGO will follow suit on the gravy train and rerelease the Falcon in all forms and themes. Heh...LEGO has been re-releasing Star Wars starships, vignettes and characters many times over even before Disney bought Lucas Arts and started the turning the wheels on the bi-annual cash machine. If anyone thinks any Star Wars UCS kit is sacred and off limits to be reproduced, then you are in for a cruel eye opener.

  4. This isn't about the 10179 - Most complainers here are concerned (and should be concerned) about the continued loss of faith in the perception of value, in general. When nothing is special, nothing is special - and LEGO is just another expensive, disposable, plastic toy.

  10. I'm surprised at the high number of exclusions on their site. It feels pretty random to me. They had a bunch of completely sold out stuff listed too on sale. Seems like a waste to offer a sale on Obi-Wan Jedi starfighter

  14. Time for some updates - the last two weeks have been crazy in terms of sales. Of course my discovery of FBA helped (moved 30 sets in 2 weeks), but somehow also my EBay sales picked up at the same time. Guess that's tax refund time for you :). Some highlights: FBA: 7x 41074 Azari and the Magical Bakery - $44 (buy-in $18 after tax) 5x 41035 Heartlake Juice Bar - $35 (buy-in $9 after tax) 2x 70151 Chima Speedorz Frozen Spikes - $16 (buy-in $4 after tax. ROI exactly 100% after all fees and taxes) - YEAH, I SELL CHIMA FOR PROFIT! BO/BL: 1x 41074 Azari and the Magical Bakery - $35 (buy-in $18 after tax) 1x 75046 Coruscant Police Gunship - $80 (buy-in $37 after tax) EBay: 1x 21118 Minecraft The Mine - $159 (buy-in $57 after tax), but with $10 FVF promo - my last one, I had to lower my price a bit after the selling frenzy over the holidays but the promo covered most of the difference. 1x Christmas Bundle consisting of 40222 Christmas Calendar + 40223 Snow Globe + 30474 Reindeer poly - $73 (buy-in $1.86, take-home profit after all fees and taxes $54)

  18. If you think gullible buyers are the only ones buying these things, I've got a bridge to sell you. I would wager it's much more complicated than take your $10 and run. In the right circles, you can buy thousands of stolen credit cards for pennies per number. However not everyone can make fake cards to use at retail stores and online shops are getting better checkout systems that use the CCV and other two factor authentication (CCV plus an online password for example). Not to mention cash is better than using a fakes chip card for $50 in groceries to these asshats. I wouldn't be surprised if these d.i.c.k.s are setting up hundreds of fake listings across many different products and making random purchases with their stolen cards (guest checkout may have been a boon for some, but i believe it lets you pay with a CC). As buyers of their own listings they won't be filing any cases with eBay and PayPal. By the time the general public finds the listings and buys the rest, they've already cut bait and run. If I've thought of it, the dirt bags have too.

  20. Exactly. if the grand-daddy of them all isn't untouchable, none of them are untouchable, and meteoric prices are no longer achievable. (some would argue meteoric price increases were already extinct due to all of us doing this on a public forum, but I digress). However, it also stands to reason they're much more likely to re-do sets that have more intrinsic popularity. The B-Wing isn't a likely re-do. So how many sets are truly impacted? Here's how all our brick folio's are about to be impacted if this truly comes to fruition. I wanted this Falcon set, bad. And can afford to spend 1500-2500 on a logo set. I considered it on several occasions. That was back when I knew I was never going to get one at retail for 500-800. Once I suspected I might (redo winter series, redo Death Star, redo Snow Speeder UCS) , I decided I was not going to pay 2500, nor 2000, nor 1500 for a really nice used copy. I was willing to wait. Now all UCS sets have that mindset. Heck, any super desirable set is. If you dispute the importance of the 10179 in Lego investing, well.............

  32. I posed this to BA in the other Amazon thread: I'm curious...is the password that you use for your Amazon account one that you use for other accounts or is it unique? I've got two-step authentication in place, but haven't received any queries from someone trying to access my account. The password that I use for Amazon is not one that I use or have used anywhere else so it could not have been compromised through another breach where my information was obtained.

  33. LEGO is a toy company, who benefit from their toys being collectible, but in the end want to sell toys. Yes, they are re-releasing some "classics", but only those which they think will have immediate, broad appeal and will sell past their production targets. I doubt they will start re-releasing more obscure sets as mentioned before. SW is hot right now, and unless LEGO has a commitment to resellers (which they don't) they would be stupid not to cash in and release a flagship set based on the flagship of the franchise. I often get the impression many of us here think LEGO is making short-sighted decisions, but I don't think they do. They have obviously factored all aspects of their appeal (both to kids and adults) into their product development, plus they are obviously aware of their status as a collectible product, and have many examples from other brands to look at and learn from. If LEGO thinks the time is right to make another MF UCS, I bet they have data to support it will sell well (compared with their targets). The "old" MF UCS will still have value, after all, it was the holy grail for so long, and if you collect you need that one. There might be a small bubble popping for those who bought at $2-$3k with the intent to resell, but for those who bought at retail there remains a nice amount of profit (granted, smeared out over many years) to be had. And if anything, the next holy grail is already out there, be it Taj Mahal, Grand Caroussel (though rumors on its replacement are also swirling), Green Grocer, etc. The thing is, the more people sour on investing in the larger sets (which is what I sense is happening right now), the more likely it is that in 5 years from now one of the currently retiring sets is the next UCS MF. Especially if TLG has to downsize their portfolio since the whole TLM surge in popularity is by now gone - some sets just won't be made again for a long time. Net, this is not the end of the road, just another inevitable change in the marketplace. Adapt or else ....

  34. FWIW, works in store, though store price is $17.49. Promo was not advertised at Target I went to but rang up just the same. $27 and change for 2. EDIT: Actually, $13.99 each. 45% off.

  35. The price discrepancy between FBA and eBay on some sets is almost to the point where you could buy the set on eBay and immediately flip it on Amazon. The Ghost has been available for <= $150 pretty reliably over the past month. There was an auction on NISB 75053 that ended at $106 on 4/6.

  36. Alright, here's how it works: $5 off $30 applies to the purchase price BEFORE the BOGO40% promo. In my case, since I was at $29.98, I had to add a small polybag (on sale for $1 off) to get the coupon to apply. Then the BOGO applied, and then my rewards came off of the total. Unfortunately they reset all their sales prices (except on polybags) when this promo started.

  37. Mostly the smaller sets with MSRPs between $10 and $20 that are already marked 20% off before the BOGO. Stunt Car and Fishing Boat are new, but many sets similar to those have only been lasting for 1 year over the past few years and the sale gets them down to around $7 and $13.75 for me respectively after tax...when you add in the fact that Target is not applying quantity limits to most of the sets in this sale, it equals a very expensive Sunday morning for me.

  39. Another vote for the Shuttle. I also like between this, IST, and a likely Kylo Ren proper shuttle down the road you can have a nice Shuttle display. The big thing they screwed up on the U-Wing is the box art, looks way cooler to me with the wings in flying mode.

  40. Not sure about LEGOLAND Florida (although I imagine it's the same) but at LEGOLAND California if you purchase a ticket and then exit the park within 60 minutes you get a full refund. You can tell them that you're there to shop and they will tell you the same. You go to the regular ticket window, buy your ticket. When you're done shopping go to the Customer Service window outside the park. If you spent money to park, they will refund you your parking if you spend $20.

  44. Picked this up a few weeks ago, finally pulled myself away from Zelda long enough to build it last night. I have built several HP sets but this is the first time doing one from the original run of sets. I really like the alternate build ideas at the back of the instruction book. They should still be doing that. The old flip box is solid too. The minifigs are a little primitive compared to the newer HP stuff but overall it's a nice set.

  46. Selling on eBay means you lose about 13½ % on fees to eBay and PayPal combined. So a €180 sale on eBay equals a €155 sale on a free Ads site like Marktplaats. Currently the lower end asking price for Pet Shop on Marktplaats is around €170 - €180. That's comparable to around €200 on eBay.
