Update on building 10030... So it was going well. Then I get to step 19: Crud. That's a lot of parts to gather for one step. Grebbling. Lots and lots of greenling. 16x! Ouch! So I attach it all and flip the book over (it's a large instruction book) and notice something... 2x?!? Yes. Go back to step one and do everything again. Oh my aching fingers. Here's the greenling: Here's what it looked like this afternoon, after attaching the two halves: Here's what it looks like tonight, having gotten another 10 steps into it:15 points

Picked up a couple things yesterday. I think everything was talked about and shown via other threads. Only thing I didn't mention yesterday was the Sea Cow. Don't own any LM sets but I saw it on offerup and decided to buy it. Got it for 220 Sealed. Noticed used ones going for 300 so I figured it was a good price!12 points

Bought 2 a while ago when they were -40%, built them, and modded them. Raised the arc by 2 1/3 to fit a train through, raised the pilars by 3, and took out all the moving parts. Shortened it to 80 studs to fit well into a Lego town, train running in between the modular houses (Pet shop works well here at 16 wide)10 points

Here's a question I never thought I would ask myself: how much is the employee discount at the 99 cent store?5 points

You need to stop with the constant negativity... Come on, Sea Cow, Emmets Mech, and the DD Couch are 3 sets from the Lego Movie that are going to rise in value. It may take some time, but as more lego films come out, people are going to start having cravings for some of the older sets. For the record, the Sea Cow is not heavily hoarded compared to many other sets out there that retired around the same time. It's going to do superwell, once more lego films come out. Just watch.4 points

Today, I bought Portal on eBay for $6.85. Last week that price would've made headlines; today, that's six times retail. [emoji1]4 points

Come on, Bro. Get some extra pieces and MOC it out until it's a display piece worthy of your tastes. That's one of the great things about LEGO.3 points

If there is a "get $x back in points on a $y purchase" promo, you want to use just enough points to stay above $y.3 points

They do make good tissues for whenever I check the Walmart clearance thread. There's a small pile of teary dimensions packs right next to my computer at this very moment. FYI the ink on those things runs, I found out the hard way.3 points

Nabbed about 80 Dimensions packs at the 99 cents store. Mostly homer level packs as that was the best value, but also a few Bart, Bad cop, and Chima ones. Using about 30 as my GWP for the following month and parting out and listing the others. Already sold 13 Homers for $6.98 and a few fun packs for $5.98 on BL, buyers paid shipping. Not bad, as that pretty much paid off the others. Best deal there however was the Odwalla bars, they were 2/$13 points

Yes , especially if they left a note and the topic already exists .3 points

I found the repetition of other sets like Tower Bridge far worse than this, however, I remember this happening to me. Getting all 16 done and being happy that annoyance was over, only to be let down because I had to do it again. I think after that particular step, I started looking a few pages ahead in every build I did after so it didn't happen again.3 points

Yeah I'm thinking some stores are just getting a shipment in. I've visited 10+ stores and a few had 0 to be found. I'll be revisiting those few stores and I'm done. Riding Shaggy to the bank….well maybe the piggy bank but nonetheless a bank.3 points

If you're not too pressed for flap trimming... Sometimes when shipping 2 sets in a box stacked I also cut a scrap box panel that covers the lower set box and the top sits on top. That should keep the top box from punching a hole or creasing the lower box.3 points

Looks fantastic, but I feel sorry for the poor guy that lives on the second story of that townhouse!3 points

Bit of a bummer sale: sold a Ghost on BL for $140. Had raised my prices previously but forgot to update my BL listing and someone found it ah well, still almost doubled my buy-in, but it could have been at least $30 more....3 points

Built a 368 stud long studs long train bridge by using 6x set 7900 bridge transport. Actually 496 studs including the ramps. It covers 110 studs in the middle at 14 high, and fits trains under it for approx 150 studs (5 tracks on the photo) On the bridge I wanted the track to be a bit lower so the trains would not reach above the 'iron' bars. I believe the design is quite minimalistic, though pretty strong. Still have to 'pimp' the pillars to replace the blue bricks.3 points

Yeah, the $3.75 Target Cartwheel deal from April 2016 isn't looking so good for Lego Movie figures anymore, since some people spend $3.96 on each set of 4. I'm glad most of the others I have multiple of (and haven't already resold) have not been in this deal. There might still be value in the figures that will never make it into normal set production (Sonic, Gremlins, Mr. T., E.T, etc), but even that goes away if they get blown out for $1 by the thousands next year. Too risky. I'm only buying for myself going forward. Unless of course they come with a free polybag I can sell for $50. Then I'm in for them all! Anybody still need a Green Arrow?2 points

Works the same online, if you want to experiment.2 points

I will skip this if its a play set with a Kracken in the middle with a play set around it with figures. I just want display models and not play sets that lego seems to have a unhealthy love for. I love sets like Big Ben but those are coming out fewer over time.2 points

If you browse around some of the top results, you'll find they're frequently sellers who have a surprisingly lean "item specifics". There's dozens variables that drive search results - not all of them are known, and certainly the algorithm eBay applies to weight those variables is a mystery. I've spent over a year trying to map it out, but it changes too consistently to make any meaningful progress. The one thing we do know is Title, Description (html headers in particular), click-through rates, and sales conversion rates are primary drivers for search rankings. Click-through & Sales conversion rates apply at both the listing and seller levels (i.e., if you've got a poor rate, that would be held against a new individual listing you post). Item Specifics are factored as well, but it appears to be a bit indirect - useful for shopping searching by category to find the item, but potentially held against you in generic searches. The quantity, price, & format (duration, shipping/return policy, etc) of a listing are factored as well - typically when "all other things being relatively equal". I could go on for several paragraphs - but frankly it's all prone to eBay system changes. The simplest key to driving your listings higher in search results: 1. Manage Impressions (Views) - Use Title keywords that would correlate strongly to people searching for your item, but not to unrelated searches. Lots of impressions but low click-through/sales (people scrolling right past your listing in searches it does pop up in) buries you. 2. Drive Click-Through with appealing photos & prices - this leads people to at least take a closer look at your item. 3. Drive Sales Conversion Rates with overall listing quality & competitive prices - you want to be converting around 5-10% of those click throughs into sales. If you do those 3 things well, all the rest becomes an afterthought. Not surprisingly, eBay priorities search results based on listings & sellers most likely to result in sales - and it's far easiest for them to predict that based on #1-3.2 points
