  1. STAR WARS sets are far less risky than any Super Hero set, this side of The Tumbler. For the most part, the most valuable STAR WARS sets are based on vehicles, while successful Super Hero sets (with exception of Tumbler) are valuable because of their figures. Maybe you should build a few and you will see the difference. As for my completely incorrect logic...You think you have this all figured out, but you really have no clue. You think you are Spock, only dealing with logic and numbers. LEGO is more than logic. It is a passion and creative force unlike any Amiibo, baseball card or Beanie Baby. It's sad that I cannot teach you these things. You either get it or you don't. You can make money off of logic, but when push comes to shove, the person who "gets it" will have a distinct advantage over those who don't. This applies to any collectible or item that is resold. I have seen people like you on this forum before and you treat it as a commodity, with really no respect for the product itself. Next year, you will be on the next forum, discussing the next hot trends in collectibles, but never really appreciating the collectible being discussed. Until you accept the fact that emotion plays a huge part in the LEGO world, you will never truly understand the opinions of many on this site.
  2. Finally feel like I got a sweet deal...Got the Empire State Building for $10, which took me 10 mins to build and now joins his friends in the office. Then as we're arranging a place to meet up (did this deal via letgo) I asked if she had any other sets, so she said she had 2 more. Only one worth discussing. 4954 Creator Townhouse. Got that used/complete/no box for $40. $50 total and I am a happy camper. Can't wait to build that townhouse.

B&N order arrived today.. Temple arrived in wonderful condition.. BATCAVE came WAY overstuffed by airpillows that squashed it. thankfully I bought it to part out. I can live with it for those prices!!
  12. Hulk, just because it doesn't fit your own personal definition of what a helicopter is, doesn't mean it isn't still a helicopter.

Nope. Technic pins have hardened my fingers.
  15. Hopefully this means we'll get a Bizarro and Doomsday figure in 2017. I would hate to think that these are the only versions of those characters coming for mass release.

  20. I actually just finished building a bricklinked 10179 in Bley with some black accents. I didn't just go for bley because new bley parts are more available, I wanted to also stock up on bley to build more star ships, etc. once I take the 10179 apart. The entire inside of the ship uses wahtever bricks I had in any color. It's not as if the lego designers made the perfect pick for every bit on the real ship - so why should I. Having a good looking ship IMO is more important than having the exact parts, since I am not planning to sell or collect this. I already had about 15% of the bricks, bought another 80% new, and about 5% used parts on bricklink and the Lego store. In Europe the total cost ended up being about 900 Euros. Here is a pic: ]

  28. UCS Slave 1. I'm 41. I was all G.I Joe and Transformers when I was a kid. The funny thing is I'm going to pick up all my old toys from my parents basement this weekend and I'm going to sell them to pay for my newly acquired Lego habit. I figure there's no better time to sell that GI Joe and Transformer stuff, I know guys in their 40s will buy stuff like that, but I can't see guys in their 50s or 60s buying a bunch of old toys. I have a ton of figures and a lot of the bigger vehicles. I used all my allowance and every other penny I earned doing odd jobs on smaller vehicles and Transformers and then all I asked for for birthdays and Xmas from 6 years was the planes and bases, etc. Unfortunately my parents weren't nuts, so the aircraft carrier isn't one of them.

Had 3 delivered today, sourced from an Ontario warehouse. 21S5, shipped in original Lego carton. I tried the stock trick when I ordered. They had more than 1200 in stock if the trick still works...

  37. Anybody remember this one from the back of comic books in the early 1980's? I think that is where I first learned about Lego.
  38. Lol ... I have no idea. I saw it on a top shelf in the toy section of this store. I had seen 3 of them up there several months ago. There was one left today. No pricing on the shelf. Just sitting there glistening in the glow of Walmart lighting. Oh a whim I decided to look it up on an online inventory checker. I cried a bit when it said $12. Grabbed the box from the top shelf and took it to a price checker. Cried a little more when it scanned at $12.
  39. Today, we are going back in time to almost three years ago (time flies!) and taking a look at one set that had the forums and the entire LEGO community talking almost non-stop: the LEGO Technic 4x4 Crawler Exclusive Edition. Unlike the majority of LEGO sets released throughout the years, the Limited Edition Crawler was designed through a fan base contest, with one of the conditions being that the creators utilized the chassis of the 9398 Crawler. The winner model was to be selected and produced as a limited edition of only 20,000 copies. Even since the winner was announced, investors and collectors were excited about the possibility of getting their hands in what many saw as a highly collectible set. Whether it was for resale, long term holding or just for personal collection reasons, the expectation was that such a unique set was bound to be extremely hard to acquire at retail price ($199.99). Months after the announcement, on August 1st 2013, the set was finally released to the public on LEGO Shop at Home and brick and mortar locations. As many expected, and worried about, 41999 sold out online the very same day, forcing customers to either hunt the set at retail location or source it from the secondary market. As one would expect, the hype surrounding the set meant that most brick and mortar locations sold out as soon as they put the set on the shelves. In turn, prices on eBay and other online platforms rose to close to $450, with sets selling within minutes of being listed as collectors worried about it becoming even more expensive, investors hoped for the next $1,000 set and, as some of you might remember, some even attempted to corner the market by acquiring dozens of copies a day. While I will not get into it, it is also worth mentioning that the circumstances surrounding the set generated a lot of controversy, and ethical/moral discussions popped up almost daily on some of the forum threads. In theory, it all made sense; LEGO released a set that was not designed by your traditional LEGO design team, limited it to 20,000 copies worldwide and, to top it off, included a number of rare and unique elements that increased collectability (first Technic set to use dark blue, chrome elements and a uniquely numbered license plate). Furthermore, the box and instruction manuals were both higher quality than average and added a little bit of value to the set. It had all the potential in the world to become an extremely sought after and expensive set in the long term, but as you can see from the chart below, in the end that was not the case. The set has almost completely stagnated at around $360, the price it finally settled at a couple months after the hype died down at the end of 2013. That’s a close to 0% gain for anyone who has been holding the set for the last 2 or so years! Clearly, the weeks after release were the most profitable times to sell the Limited Edition 41999. I sold some of these within this timeframe and took advantage of the hype surrounding it, but at the same time thought that the set had a lot of long term potential (as many others did!). Looking back though, the performance of the set has not been anything but a disappointment. While it is always hard to pinpoint the exact reasons a set is not as popular as expected, I think that there are some generally accepted factors that contributed to the Crawler not doing as well as expected. Technic has always been a niche market. While there is definitely a following to the theme, its popularity is nowhere near as close to some of the licensed themes, reducing the customer base. The set on which 41999 was based on, 9398 Crawler, was readily available until 2015. Given the similarities between the two sets, having a much cheaper version in the market could have definitely impacted the performance of the Limited Edition. The set simply grew too fast, reaching maturity shortly after its release. All the circumstances surrounding the set allowed it to reach its ceiling way faster than the average LEGO set, explaining the lack of growth since. So, knowing its past, what should we look forward to? Honestly, I don’t see how the trend can be reversed. I would not expect to see any significant growth out of this set, as I believe that if its unique characteristics have not generated any more interest in the past couple of years, there is no reason to believe they will in the future. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a cool model and a very interesting piece of LEGO history, so there is definitely a value in owning it. But if you are still holding it with the expectation of above average result, I would definitely take a few moments to reconsider and compare it with some of the better options currently available. Thanks for reading!
  40. Almost half way the building
  41. Finished this one last night with my 5 and 7 year old. Found it in a beat up box for $30, so it was a no-brainer build. It must have been a success, because afterwards my daughter said: "I think I like the Star Wars Legos better than the Friends ones...or at least as much as the Friends ones." Score.
  42. I got my last bricklink order to put together the ent from 102137 (ToO). Bought a used tower only in dec but swiftly realised i needed the ent to complete the masterpiece. Nice build and looks great - would actually have worked quite well as a small set IMO although the target audience might be small.
  43. Maybe need to move this to a new thread but I bought a used one and so glad i did. 75021 is a great build - was looking out for the previous version (like the idea of it fully closing and personally think the mini-figure selection is better). IMO if you want one of these get it now. It actually makes sense that the larger SW sets will be from the new films coming up. Unless one shows up in rebels that is.
  44. GG lives up to all the hype, up next GBFHHQ.
  45. This was a surreal experience a lot of enjoyment not so much from the build but from finally getting to build the CC. I need a frog and some hair. Up next GG.
  46. I have that set and it is pretty awesome. As far as investment goes, I would try to get them cheap.
