  1. Took a couple of days and finally completed Big Ben. The finished product looks amazing with the level of detail and finished look of the model. The build on the other hand was beyond repetitive - lots of x25 steps that you repeat over and over and over again - but I guess I knew that heading into it based on the images etc... but putting the clock part together was very enjoyable. Anyway looks great on display and price point seems decent based on how cool it looks.

My Shopko order of 1 Poe's X-wing arrived today in a shipping box that was literally too small in length and height to fit the kit. Shopko's solution? Turn the kit diagonal, stand it up straight like you'd see on a store shelf, and with the kit literally sticking out of the top of the box by an half inch, close the flaps and put a random piece of cardboard in the gap, then tape it together. Somehow it arrived in decent shape and I'm not a box-queen so it worked I guess.
  5. Hmm ... doorbell just rang - courier delivered my 21108 ... box was pristine, but it came delivered in a see-through plastic bag. Not good for the "hiding things from the missus" plan Luckily only my kids were witnesses
  6. Free is always good! My daughter added an extra blue piece to hers, while my son stuck to the instructions.

  11. Got FO Tie ($28), Shadow troopers ($8), Deep Sea Scuba Scooter ($3.80), and an Ursula Disney CMF ($3.24) with my $10 off $50 coupon at Shopko with the former three items already marked down on clearance. They had three more minty FO Ties marked down to 34.99 each that I'll pick up (with a coupon, I hope) on my way back through Monday (I hope again...).

  13. For us UKers TLG retirement mark usually comes earlier then across the pond. I'd say it will last until the end of this year and you'll see stock clearance off and on. Best I've seen this to date is 35% off I think (and when it was there a couple of times stock was wiped clean). Been pretty much at 20% off in the UK for all of this year so now's a good time to start buying. This set gets a lot of love from the OT fans (and even called the best of the wave in the reviews. And that's a wave that includes IST and....errr....). One playset that's pretty movie accurate and you can display it for a pretty much every scene from the end of ROTJ. So even though its a playset which tend not to rise as quickly i think it will do quite well. Great mini-fig selection; where else can you get luke, palpatine, Vader - they're not throw aways. And almost tempted to say that because its not a vehicle it might be overlooked in favor of people stocking up on IST and some of TFA ships.
  14. I sold the beat up box tower bridge I picked up the other day for $200. Not too interesting but I did sell it on a new site (new to me) Nextdoor.com. It's a message board website for neighborhoods. It has a classified section. I don't think I will list any thousand dollar SSDs there but it might be good for small and used stuff. It's also great for getting local recommendations. It's gotten so expensive to sell online, love seeing a new local source beside craigslist. It's much more personalized than CL too so I don't expect the garbage responses I sometimes get on CL.
  15. I've had many inquiries, thanks to everyone! The collection has been sold, and I'm working with the buyer to arrange delivery. Thanks again to everyone, that was really quick. I actually had several offers in excess of my $12,500 asking price. I didn't accept them as 1) I had been working a deal with a buyer prior to this, and 2) I felt $12,500 was the fair price which leaves enough room for the buyer to make some profit on this collection. After all, that's one of the reasons we're all here. Thanks again, now I have to start packing things up.

  17. Bought a very good condition UCS Y wing off bricklink for £500. Slowly picking off the old Star Wars UCS sets that I missed in my dark ages. Now have three including the SSD and the Vader Tie. Eyeing up a Tantive IV now.
  18. Took my boy for Lego club this morning and saw the Scooby Mansion has been discounted at b/m Lego store (but still not at shop@home)...$71.98. Had a calendar coupon for 100 extra bonus points w purchase so it came home to go in the pile w/the others.
  19. I think those were few and far between. Not unheard of, but not large stashes at that price.
  20. I won't touch them if not below 70 euro each.
  21. I ordered 5 of these for store pickup a week and a half ago. Never received any shipping/ order status updates. Just received a text and email notifications one day to pick up my order at the store. Got there and the order was in a brown shipping box but it was dented badly on one side. When they removed the 5 sets to verify everything was there, 2 of them were smashed like a pancake. I requested to return those 2 and get a refund. The lady starts going on about how I have to go through .com. I told her no and that they were able to return damaged items for a refund. She had to go get the manager to get it straightened out. What a PITA when workers do not know their employers' policies!
  22. Shop at Home for Lego has the deep sea operation base base 60096 for 79.99. With VIP points, free shipping and the fountain it seems like a good deal. I have not seen this one in the brick and mortar stores around me so I opted for one to add to the vessel and sub to help complete the series. Don't know if it is worth posting about but what the hell it is early Saturday morning.
  23. Great suggestion! My wife's been on it for a while, so I'd heard of it, she sold our old stroller with it. Taking your advice, I put up a listing saying I have a bunch of new and used sets. I've already had two responses in the first couple hours, that equals the number of non-scammer CL responses I've had in the last month and a half (neither of which actually bought anything). Thanks

  30. Once again, thanks to all. I really didn't want my health to be such a big deal; we all deal with stuff like this eventually, at least if you're living right. Here I am. 6" incision on my neck from the radical neck dissection I had 7 weeks ago. All the lymph nodes in the left side of my neck were removed, along with about 35% of my tongue.

More like x150. That x25 step has been repeated at least 4 times already, and I'm only about to start in on Bags 4!! The repetition, on tiny pieces, is real. But so is the detail. Come across a couple very satisfying techniques so far as well. I really love how the tower comes together with the sideways panels. I think this set might be a good investment down the line. It's highly intricate and has lots of details to show off, and yet it doesn't have an outlandish shelf footprint like SOH or TB. I think this one would very cleanly pass the CEO test due to it's level of detail in relation to footprint. It could even fit on a desk nicely without taking up too much of the actual desk space. Very cool model. Edit: I feel like I'm building a giant sized Architecture set.
  33. Did you publicly shame them? Perhaps loudly inquiring about the number of items
  34. I gave you a "like" for the effort. You also talked me into buying another Deep Sea Operation Base. Thank you!
  35. Don't know if this is a new offer, but I just got $10 off of my first PrimeNow order using code 10PRIMENOW at Amazon.com. Combined it with a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime to get an Ecto-1 for $39.95 - delivered to my door this afternoon. Should work for Prime members too who haven't used PrimeNow yet, I believe. Only snag in the plan is that they include a "tip for driver" which they suggest is $5 and reducing it made me feel like a bad person even though the info bubble says "Including tip is always optional". Adjusted it to match the best price I could get otherwise (which required EBay to give me a discounted TRU GC before the 20% off coupon runs out). Let's see if the courier decides to practice punting with the package before delivering it to me.
  36. Some of you may have seen this before, I just saw it - even though it's a couple years old. Not really a "laugh", but quirky and interesting: http://www.cnet.com/news/disabled-tortoise-gets-a-lego-wheelchair/

--> Phil B is right. Better start with sets that are about to be retired.
  41. Welcome Max! In regards to investing: Unless you want to go very deep (20+ sets), buying newly released sets is not the best way to spend your money as you will have capital tied up for many years (unless you manage to Quick Flip your sets, but that's not really "investing"). So I wouldn't start buying Big Ben for investment purposes yet, given that it had its release just today. Slave 1 has been out a little longer, but nobody here knows when it will retire - might still be quite a while (given that other exclusives from SW are still available after having been out for much longer - Ewok Village, Sandcrawler to name a few).

  44. I used to live in Brazil some years ago, so I'm always curious about Lego in Brazil... family there tells me it is a "rich kids only" toy... and with prices at least double our typical RRP, I can understand that. There is a Lego "shop" site, that looks very much like a Lego group site, but appears to be run by a third party licensee (I presume). There is no link to it on the official shop.lego.com site. Their offerings are always very limited... but one item they've had listed for years is 10224 Town Hall. A couple years ago, the price of R$1299.99 was astronomical. But the currency has taken a dive over the past year. Now at R$3.90 = US$1... that makes the Town Hall about US$ 333.33 (+ $10 delivery) if the site can be trusted. In fact, if you live in Brazil, they offer "interest free" 10 monthly payments of R$ 129.99. Interesting, no? http://www.legobrasil.com.br/lego-creator-expert-town-hall/p

Been putting this together since I picked it up release day. Finished it off last night, but had a first occur for me in Bag 4. I had a missing piece! Every other time I've thought I was missing a piece, I'd just search harder and eventually it would be there. This time, for real, a single missing 1x8 white plate. It's location was for the bottom edge of the roof layer, and was easy to swap with any old plate lying around to maintain stability for the rest of the build. When I'd finished, I discovered in my 'extra pieces' a 2x4 blue plate in place of my missing 1x8 white. 2x4 blue plates don't appear on this set's inventory. How it got into the bag instead of 1 more (of a total 4) different sized white plate is absolutely beyond me. Anyone had a weird one-off substitution like this on a modular before? I've heard that if sets are missing things, it's normally an entire bag, or an entire set of a brick type. This just seems weird. Ordered my 1 replacement 1x8 white plate off Bricks & Pieces.... felt heinously silly.
