Greg, no worries. I was wondering what happened, and didn't think I said anything wrong. Anyway, to repeat... Personally, I think it's never too early to start collecting modular buildings regardless if you've missed a few. I've been investing in themed sets as well as architecture for quite some time now, but never gave much consideration to the non-themed creator line, and especially the large exclusives. They were off my radar. Then last year I used points on a pet shop mostly because my wife felt it would be cool to own a few of these. We then built it, and became hooked. So, we've bought a few of the others and plan to continue this line. I personally, don't have and doubt i'll get cafe corner, green grocer, town hall, or market place because I just don't see myself spending a grand on a set just to be a completionist. I still am looking to obtain fire brigade, and grand emporium. But, the modulars are for my personal collection, and i'm not in it for the investment.... but I do think over a long enough time line, these all will do very well, because it seems that eventually people take notice to these and all the sudden become hooked then they start wanting to get some of the older ones. I find these more fun to build, and display then any of the star wars UCS sets. And you can always switch them around to make a new setup, if you want. With that said, I think all of the creator exclusives, whether it's modular buildlings, or the landmark sets are some of the absolute best sets to build, and you will feel rewarded with the finished product. I was heavily into the architecture line for a while, but as time has gone on, I find myself less engaged with that line, and more into the larger creator sets. I have never had buyers remorse on any of the one's I have bought. And I plan on picking up brick bank once I get a couple more VIP points built up. The only downside is they take up a lot of space. 3 modular buildings put together will take up about 3 feet in space. So, that is one of the downside to these large creator exclusives. As long as you have the space to commit to them, I say buy at least one! This line will go on for perhaps a decade +, and I think it will go on without the need for repeats. So over that long span of time, even hoarded sets like Pet Shop will probably be over a grand even if people today are skittish about it.3 points

there's nothing politically correct about a child in a wheelchair minifigure coming from the father of 2 daughters 6 and 7 who will never walk, much less wipe their behind.3 points

I can 100% relate to your dilemma. Very similar to my own back in 2013 when I came out of my own Lego hibernation. Having missed out on the Green Grocer and Fire Brigade, I'll always feel like my modular display is "incomplete". But that said, the Creator Expert modulars (TH/PS/PC/PR/DO/BB) are the one and only theme I have yet to experience a single iota of buyer's remorse. If it helps justify the pricetag, perhaps worth bearing in mind that they're a pretty solid bet to hold their value. Not long after retirement, even the "used" value is pretty much right about what you paid for it new/retail. If you for some reason you do find them unsatisfying (or Lego inexplicably terminates the line), you shouldn't have much trouble at all getting your money back out of them.2 points

I can only imagine how that would be.. but I think you're stomping on the wrong person here. LEGO (and any other toy maker) is in a no-win situation these days with the products that go to market. If we look carefully at this set... - 8 female minifigs, 5 male minifigs (assuming climber is male) - no even stevens? - 3 females in traditional male roles (business suit, painter, gardener) - some men still do those jobs, just ask exciter who cuts the grass! - young man in wheelchair - why not a young woman? Maybe this was a nice middle ground for LEGO. - grandma, grandpa (in old people clothing) - no park is complete without them - baby clearly has no gender specified with white outfit - white/yellow/green typically considered gender neutral colors for babies - man in lumberjack attire setting out the picnic - come on, he should have a chainsaw! - 4 kids - 2 and 2 but clearly gendered (see below) - climber seems genderless - nice safe move - hot dog stand man with mustache - hah, such a traditional chef - some figs with glasses, some without - nice balance don't you think? - boys wearing baseball cap and tshirts/hoodie, girls in pink tank tops and star necklaces - girls wear caps and boys wear pink too! It attempts to meet or break many typical stereotypes so I would say it's an attempt on LEGO's part to be very politically correct (whatever that really means). So I'll reiterate .. I can't imagine the hardships your family endures, and I express sincere gratitude to all parents who look after kids with disabilities. But I too see this set as very politically correct - and a great place to finally introduce a wheelchair into the LEGO world. For kids who have never been exposed to what life is like in a wheelchair, any kind of exposure is good exposure. That's how we as a society can raise socially responsible kids - by normalizing things that have traditionally been not normal. /end soapbox From an investor angle, this set could be a long term winner if LEGO doesn't produce another set like it. It will appeal to the mass politically correct or not. But I have a sneaky suspicion that it's early popularity means it'll get on someone's radar and be something that gets revisited with a twist such as a slide or climber instead of the spinner. 1x1 tan rounds for the sandbox win!2 points

I'd list it for $1,000,000 as a buy it now with free shipping. Include the "or best offer" option and accept the first offer that you feel is acceptable. Who knows? Maybe you'll get lucky and someone will actually buy it for $1M.2 points

I didn't say sell for $90 ASAP. It's just an example. I do not think this set will make hundreds of dollars, but I do not think people will lose money buying it at ~$60 dollars. I try to buy sets that I won't have to take a loss on and then let the big money winners find themselves. If everything you buy makes some money and some of those make much more then I think you'll be fine. You are more than welcome to stick to the big winners that clearly have unknown growth potential, but those types of sets generally must be purchased at near full price and the growth doesn't always pan out. It is like investing in low risk vs. high risk stocks. The police station is low risk at ~$602 points

I agree with you on this set, I've no plans to pick it up, unless I see silly discounts. The problem with dismissing this set as an investment turd is that you just need to look at other Rebels sets, like The Ghost and The Phantom, hideous looking sets, but doing well since EOL. Why do we dismiss these sets, because we're not the target market, to me I see an X-Wing, Falcon or Shuttle Tyderium and go now that's a ship, but how much of that is historical childhood bias. Probably a bit, but also they just designed better ships for the OT. Out of all the Rebels sets so far, the only one I really like is Vader's Advanced Tie vs A-Wing and surprise, surprise they're OT ships.2 points

Finished this beauty over the weekend and it is very impressive build by the user Pvdb. It was a tricky build and you definitely should be proficient in building with Technic and have lots of experience as the instructions are not nearly as straight forward as TLG instructions. Here is the Koenigsegg One:1. More pictures, videos and info can be found here.2 points

Maybe not heavily discounted in Europe, but US investors should be weary. Target had a massive clearance of these about 1 year ago. These were $30USD, and people loaded up. I remember seeing pictures in the daily deals thread showing people with dozens of them. I wouldn't pay retail for these in the US, despite being retired.1 point

Thank you for all the feedback. This is pretty much all I needed to hear. I am going to order PC, DO, and PR sometime in the near future. I will probably wait until June for the Fountain promotion. It looks like I might have to go through Amazon to get a Pet Shop but that's okay. When displaying vehicles in your layout, what series has the appropriately scaled vehicles for modulars? Apologies for the short reply. It's morning time here in Hawaii and I have go to work.1 point

Hey, Most of your worries have been addressed on this site already. Therefore just quick answers from me: I guess my basic question, is with many of the sets already retired, is it even worth getting into? Most investors say yes. Some are on the fence as retirements have been postposed multiple times. I'd add that the more supply, the less people will look to buy them all. Which puts a little of a ceiling on the theme. To be complete: some investors have stopped investing in them at all. But I think this is still a minority. Is Lego going to continue with this modular theme for several years? Sure. It started with it on AFOLS's request. It has generated a new very lucrative market segment for them. Why stop unless it goes out of fashion? Is there a possibility that Lego might start a new line of Modulars that are bigger and closer to a 3500 -4000 piece count like some of the landmarks? Sure. Even if it overlaps the current offering, they have created the GB depot for example . I know the modulars take up some serious space, how do most of you display them? On a shelf. (secret tech revealed :-))) I am on the fence on what direction I want to go at this point. I really like the modulars but I also really like a couple of the landmarks like TB and BB. Not sure if I can layout the cash for all the modulars, landmarks and the sets that are still going to be released later this year, considering how much I have already spent. I should have never walked into the Lego Store! Nothing better than AFOL lego. Wait until you will want to build your own designs! That will take huge amounts of space :-)1 point

Running through a few small SW sets I picked up used preparing for resale. Geonosian Cannon is quite a nice little build. With the Ventress/Opress/Maul story arc being my favourite clone wars story and Darth Maul probably my favourite SW universe story arc, now that he’s popped up in rebels. I wasn’t planning on, but I’ll probably end up keeping the Nightspeeder and the Mandy speeder, for a little while anyway.1 point

So the basic answer to your question is ... leave them in the boxes if you can (prevents dust buildup and further damage such as scuffing). That does take up more room and also requires some type of organization/labeling system so you know what's in them. This thread has lots of tips and links to a few blog articles... You can skip ahead to this post for some good information about storing LEGO sets when they are not in boxes, how to properly stack cardboard boxes (LEGO or non-LEGO), etc. (there is a link to other threads from here - self plug, this is my post which links to another of my posts :)) This thread shows how many members choose to display and store their sets along with advice on shelving and other things... The info is there, but it's scattered a bit. Bottom line... store in larger boxes if you can, NEVER stack LEGO boxes flat on top of each other. If you need to stack LEGO boxes, stack them criss-crossed and always remember: - the stacking strength (crushing) of carboard is in the vertical nature of a piece of cardboard (more flutes = more strength, thicker = more strength) - the impact strength (resistance to punctures and dents) is due to the thickness of the cardboard and the glues used (thicker = more strength)1 point

More people in that community probably have the DO than any other set. Why would I think that? Because BB came in second. Those two sets have had more recent advertising in the LEGO community than any other.1 point

Are you guys going to continue this all year again every time it's in and out? That was 90% of the Palace Cinema and Pet Shop threads last year.1 point

It would be groundbreaking for a modular to retire at this time of the year with 2 previous modes still on sale. Don´t see it happening, but you never know. Lego have got quite good at trolling the horde recently,1 point

Picked up a Detectives Office & Parisian Restaurant recently. The level of detail looks great and I'm looking forward to building. I'm also going to pick up a Pet Shop before it's too late. On the other hand, I really just can't get into the Palace Cinema and am going to pass.1 point

Finished building the PR with my son on the weekend. Love the details on the roof, the little kitchen, chair in front of fire place etc. Overall, a fun/great build. Maybe it's just me but I find the two latest modular (PR and DO) have more cool 'features/build techniques'...taking it to another level in terms of general design vs the previous four (FB/TH/PS/GE). Big thumbs up for Lego modular theme designers/creators, can't wait to see what building they release next. Lego probably has 2-3 lined up in different stages...maybe finalizing box art etc for the new building now.1 point
