  4. Let's stop making up rumors. Minifiigures Plus has been around a long time and provide quality products at reasonable prices. There are still many Mom and Pop toy shops throughout the country that resell LEGO products.

  6. I'm working on an article that explores how to better understand and apply the concepts of "scale" to create better LEGO models. This raises a pretty fundamental question which I do not feel has been adequately answered within the LEGO community - what is the "scale" for the common LEGO figures we use in our models. Minifig / Minidoll Naturally, we want to start with the classic "minifigure", as well as the newer "minidoll" which has similar width and height. I calculated a value of 1:42 for the classic minifigure, and a value of 1:38 for the Minidoll. The minidoll has fairly realistic proportions, so I feel pretty good about that value. What do you think - do you agree with a value of 1:42 for the classic Minifigure? I have heard a scale of 1:48 cited in several places for the classic minifig, but I believe based on my calculations that this is mostly caused by folks rounding to 1:48, since this is a common scaling factor for model trains and architectural modeling. (I showed all my calculations at http://brickarchitect.com/scale/ so feel free to correct any mistakes in my measurements or calculations.) Miniland Moving on to the "Miniland" scale, which describes those brick built figures popularized at LEGO theme parks...Here, I determined a scale of 1:17 is most accurate, although I have also seen 1:20 cited in a few places. Does 1:17 seem accurate? What do those of you who work in this scale think? Nanofig / Statue fig Lastly, we have the newer "Nanofig" and "Statue fig" sizes. We all know that they are very tiny, but how tiny?By my calculations, they come in at about 1:80 for Nanofig, and 1:125 for Statue Fig. I'm very curious to hear what your thoughts are - It's pretty tricky to decide which measurements to use to calculate the height, especially on the smallest "statue fig" size. Are these values right? Thank you! Again, my detailed calculations and assumptions are clearly called out at http://brickarchitect.com/scale/ and I would really appreciate the help of the community to confirm that these values are as accurate as possible!Sincerely,---Tom Alphin

  7. Calling minifigures+ a pyramid scheme or even "resembles a pyramid scheme" is a little much in my opinion. I think you have no idea what an actual pyramid scheme looks like. The only promise minifigures+ makes is for a good delivered at a fair price. They don't guarantee you anything beyond that. Never have I seen them make claims or try to get you to recruit others. They are just further up the distribution chain than the rest of us, but that can be said for Wal-Mart, target and toys r us too.

  10. Thought I would test out the new GS7 Edge camera capabilities today and built a little stand to shoot this on for a min. I think the camera takes some pretty detailed shots for a phone. Figured a little ship could use a little company.

  13. A little behind, but this is what I did this week after buying my first collection last weekend for $200. Passenger Plane #3181, Destiny'Bounty #9446, and Epic Dragon Battle #9450. I checked all the pieces for each set and recorded them (mostly some minifigs and weapons missing), built each set, broke them down into the individual bags. In an epic noob i.e. Move I took a bunch of pics during the airplane build but not of finished product. Plane is complete except for manual 1. Unfortunately the missing Ninjago figs range from $5-$20 each Pics of the 3 builds plus the lot itself.

  15. I love the community in this community! Thank you so much for the offer. I actually found the last two I needed within 10 minutes back at WM this am. Smooshing goes much faster after you get a feel for the feel. My girls are already playing, mixing and free building with their complete set. I'm available if you need to outsource your smooshing

  16. Sorry if it was posted elsewhere, but there are SUMMER 2016 minifigure images leaked / posted. The ultimate source looks like they were from a Russian site: http://minifigpriceguide.com/wordpress/summer-2016-lego-star-wars-hi-resolution-minifigure-images/ Some of these look pretty cool! Dengar? Nice!

  18. We can use this topic to share pictures and stories of "official" Lego prototypes (aka sketches) of products that were produced or not. Please cite the source if using info from other places. I discovered two sets of pictures today on eurobricks. The picture below is of a larger 1) Speeder Bike and 2) Tie Advanced model and was in a early 2000s Lego magazine. The official release of the UCS 10175 Vader Tie Advanced set debuted in 2006 / 2007. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=10175-1 Here is another pretty famous prototype of Yavin IV that appeared in DK's Star Wars Lego: The Visual Dictionary.

  19. Not sure if my pics really do it justice but i got my final bricklink order in to complete a Helms deep and uruk hai army lot that I got 95% complete. Also added another Uruk hai army and went slightly overboard on eBay getting a few more elves, orcs and wargs to flesh it out. Massive LOTR fan and these make a great display piece IMO - just wish i had more room to fully do it justice

  21. Here are the 10196 Grand Carousel early sketches. I like the end result better although the ticket window was an excellent idea and should have been kept. The designer , Steen Sig Andersen (Google him and you'll recognize his works) had a difficult time getting the rotation to work,

  28. Started messing around with some of my macro filters...The depth of field is literally razor thin. I was about 4" in front of these guys while shooting , maybe less...I think I will begin shooting a few more mini figs like this...I like the results but have to play around more with the subject matter, sharkie and chen were just the first victims to get shot.

  31. latest builds. Tydirium is great, nice build, nice figs, looks good on it's own and great set for play, will do great once it’s retired. But, we all knew that, right? The Imperial Assault Carrier was a bit of a surprise, really enjoyed it. Build is fair enough, not too repetitive, lots of mini-builds that get bolted on to the main structure. It’s full of play features, technics handle (similar to the ISD) so swoosh-able, solid structure (nothing falls off), secret compartments, missiles, stun shooters, ability to drop Tie fighters on your cat. Great play set ship. But it’s a really ugly ship So much fun. But really, really ugly. No clue what it’d do in after EOL, can’t image they will be much AFOL demand, but it’s a really fun set. Figs may let it down a little. I only have the one built at the moment. Likely will get more.

  32. Finally got around to building part of the $15 bag I got on CL. Midi-MF is short 9 pieces and Y-Wing is short ~15 and the minifigures except R2. Do I sell or keep the MF?

  37. Having the face / front of the slug shown instead throat was pretty easy. Just rearrange a couple the flat black tiles and the light gray 2x2 tile with pin. All other steps before and after are identical to the manual. i think y next mini project is to alter the slug so the elements with studs are the throat and the plates with the underside shown will be the head.

  40. Anyone who builds Technic MOC supercars will know about this ICARUS Supercar. It was so much fun to build this car by the great Madoca1977. This supercar has 4 Large motors propelling it, a servo motor for steering and two lights and two LiPo batteries for power. I have substituted the Sbricks in the original build with two V2 receivers and a pole reverser so I can use only one IR receiver. This supercar looks amazing at every angle which is partly due to Madoca1977's crazy use of angled panels. It was tricky to assemble it with instructions, so the upmost respect to someone who can imagine, design and assemble models of this complexity!
