  1. Got a good laugh out of this question....
  2. Picked up the following used sets from CL all with instructions but no box for $750: 10185 Green Grocer 10218 Pet Shop 10216 Winter Village Bakery 5766 Log Cabin 4956 Creator House 6754 Family Home 4996 Beach House 5891 Apple Tree House 5771 Hillside House 7641 City Corner and extra 10-15 pounds tub of LEGO and some small city sets I think it's a pretty good deal and most of them are going to be placed in my city. I'm just really happy to finally able to get Green Grocer and all of the retired houses that I wasn't even bothered to buy back then.
  3. I would like to see a Starkiller Base that resembled the 10143 in scale and style. That would be an awesome display piece.
  4. I'm at LEGO Downtown Disney waiting for them to open. I have $40 in my pocket and $5 in points. Ever wondered what a degenerate LEGO addict spends his last $40 on? Stay tuned!
  5. While those are all valid points, I think you're missing one point: hype. Tumbler EOL coincided with the largest influx of investors that Lego has ever seen. A lot of investors who bought this set bought it simply because it was "the thing" to buy at the time they started investing in Lego. What we may see as "large demand" could simply be resellers buying each others' products. If anything, the ratio of hoarders:end users is way higher than any of those other sets. I actually think Tumbler will do well and have posted about those points you've mentioned (mainly that it's one of a few displayable superhero Lego), but just playing devil's advocate for a second.
  6. And there it is, I've reached peak acronym level and want to cry
  7. You won't do any better than 50% off really. A few people might, but not many. You will make money at that buy-in price. ...and you suck for finding these at 50% off.
  8. My shipping has been great lately. They've got one up on Amazon there. They'll even ship your pants.
  9. Didn't see Venom Poly's. Cat, dog, shark, road, steaks, Pebbles hair added to my collection. $40.97
  10. Yep....automatic MOD mode for the next person with a stupid comment. Try me please.
  11. There is nothing left that escapes the horde.
  12. If posts on this forum can be anything to go by I believe there are plenty of new sellers that don't even factor fees, postage and tax into a reselling equation. I believe there are people that would happily sell a Tumbler for £5-10 profit, to some profit is profit no matter how small it is. Increased amounts of quick flippers all competing for sales are responsible for creating a plateau. Most resellers, let alone general public cannot get a sniff of a Tumbler through retail stores so eBay or Amazon is there only option. The prices should be sitting around the £250+ mark now, however due to Smyths stock being available in constant supply to some Tumblers are being flipped for measly easy profits. Once the retail stock dries up we should see a decent rise in profits.
  13. 50x Cowler Dragon Polybags $150 + shipping. After taxes, fees, shipping made about $70 on $64 target clearance for $1.19 ea. Keeping it rolling while everyone chases Poe and batman
  14. LEGO Star Wars TIE Advanced Prototype $34.99 good price? http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Star-Wars-Advanced-Prototype/dp/B00NHQI286%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAJQSYTIGRBKVM26KQ%26tag%3Dbrickpicker-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB00NHQI286#Ask
  15. They're on the boat!
  16. Annddd done! Pretty much used Jang's as my reference, but there was a lot of trial and error as there were some pieces i could not find in black. Mainly the cockpick hinge pieces, so i had to sort of redo the roof section to make it come off as 1 pieces instead of hinge open. I can get the shuttle into a landing pose, but it's not entirely stable. However it will be displayed in flight mode anyways. Really love the teardrop red cockpit windows. This went from a bad looking model (in terms of screen accuracy) to one of my favourites. Aside from the stud shooters; there is practically no grey to be seen. Pictures below:

I finally figured out what Kmart is doing: To get $15 SYW points, I bought something I do not need the other day. And today, to redeem the very same $15 points (before they expire in 3 days), I again bought something I don't need. Very clever, Kmart!
  18. Had a coupon and points bonanza at KMart.com. 5 x 75094 - Imperial Shuttle Tydirium - averaged out to $54 each
  19. $55 - Another Silver Centurion Amazon FBM $24 - HF Rocka Crawler eBay
  20. What did you call me?
  21. 2 points
I was in a local TRU yesterday, found a lonely snow plow on the shelf. While in line with it, I noticed the light hit it and highlight an imprint of "From Santa" on the box. Clearly a return.
  22. Airport Fire Truck is doing ok.
  23. Sold a 21301 - Birds, for €95 clean cash in hand to a nice lady. Buy in was the Dutch RRP of €50. So nearly 2x RRP in less than 6 months after buying. Wish I had bought more.

I don't think you can compare those sets to this one. None of them are UCS and none of them are licensed (except for the Mercedes, technically). The fact is this set has a lot of attributes which make it highly collectible: licensed theme with tons of fans (Batman) vehicle and minifigs are unique and appear in one of the most popular/iconic movies of the last decade (The Dark Knight) it's a UCS set there is another Batman movie coming out in march (Batman vs Superman) relatively short run (1 year) All these facts were part of the reason people invested in these so much. I don't think a large supply will outweigh the large demand. The price has not gone up that much because a lot of people want a quick profit.
  25. Are you the guy that took the minifigs out of the 9471 I bought at Walmart a couple years ago?
  26. I personally label everything because I have had too much trouble with being stuck with poor merchandise that wasn't mine after it was returned. I feel most collectors know what they are getting if they order an FBA item, and they are not surprised by a label. I have never had a return or bad review because of a label. I am concerned about labels tearing boxes too, so I stick the labels to my shirt before I put them on the boxes to make them less sticky. Seems to work. It doesn't matter which the of the 17 Interceptor labels go on each Intercepter. Just don't put a Phantom label on an Intercepter. If you are just starting out on FBA, I wouldn't send in 20 of a single item. I would send it at most 5 of each item. Here is why. Selling is slower than in Nov-Dec, and it might take awhile to sell through 20 of one item. In the meantime, other sellers may undercut your price, and then you will undercut them, ect... I also don't like to commit a lot of inventory of 1 item incase sales are slow because then you have higher storage fees as you wait for everything to sell. Every day an item sits in a warehouse, you are charged a small fee, but you won't see it until billing long after you have incurred the fee. Two different items get 2 sets of eyes and twice the chance to sell, but 2 of 1 item only get 1 set of eyes.
  27. I'm glad I didn't go too crazy with this one.
  28. John Lewis in the UK currently have 41078 Elves - Skyra's Mysterious Sky Castle on offer for £39.99. Can usually be found elsewhere for around £55 and £75 in the actual Lego store still. No sign of actual retirement ahead of the 2016 line coming out. Nice set with lots of good parts for those who part out.
  29. Sounds like a good way of making friends with the ban hammer to me considering it is limit 1 per household.
  30. That's good for you, though. Four years from now you will be able to buy them for $20 each.
  31. To beat the Last minute panic buying, good idea is to pick up a few now and then, I think it will be a great investment set.
  32. I just bought my first one of these from TRU and I have to say this set is awesome. This screams of a ship I would have built with my hodge podge of legos from the late 80's and early 90's that I would have showed off to everyone as being the coolest ship ever built. I know that this was the intended purpose of this set and all Lego Movie sets. Huge nostalgia factor for me. Just an amazingly appealing set for AFOL's in my belief. Looks like it was probably over produced, but this still has to be a steal at $70 right? This has a very unique build quality to it that is unlikely to be repeated. It might drop more, maybe to 50%, but I have to figure that this one will increase in value over the next couple years, especially when the second movie comes out.
  33. I launched the Lego Star War Rebels Imperial Assault Carrier a few days ago. Filming the new City Square right now. Yesterday I purchased the Deep Sea Exploration Vessel.
  34. well that answers that then doesn't it.
  35. I have always bought during double VIP and good promo giveaways. Only one of anything, split up orders, etc
  36. You did a quality review on the build: Slave 1.
  37. I'm filling out my NCAA Tournament bracket for next year too.
  38. @Kneel_Before_Zod Recently I wrote a blog article about the hazards of jumping in without doing research and how the easy money that is forecasted by the sensationalist articles is not the general rule. I highlighted 3 money losing themes out of many. http://community.brickpicker.com/blog/brickvesting/throwing-money-away-why-not-buy-everything-r17341/ There's a lot of discussion about buying at the right price after the blog article. Just wanted to share the counterpoint to the media hype. There's a lot of good information on this site. Take a look at the What did I buy, what did I sell, What did I not buy, and daily deals. Also take a look at the what LEGO to buy and sell and deal or no deal threads. Those threads will be good as a starting point. As with investing in stocks, you should do your research, figure out what works best for you based on the information available, and potentially your own read on the situation. Be prepared to have stock that can take up a lot of real estate in your house for a while.
  39. Buy everything that's either on sale and/or in a pink and purple box. Exo Suits are near the end of their life cycle, AND on sale. I'd buy at least 50-100 of those. Chima is being phased out. Now is the time to load up. Welcome aboard the money train. Next stop, Profitville. You'll be thanking me six months from now when all of these sets I just mentioned are selling for five times what you paid for them. Welcome to the club. Glad to have you.
  40. For as long as I can remember, people have been puzzled by my interest in many things that were “for boys”, and I have been equally puzzled by why toys have a gender at all. As much as I am genetically and physically female, I have never been one to adhere to the likes and behaviors deemed appropriate to my gender. I am a builder and a creator. Both of my parents worked as computer engineers (although I used to think they worked on a train), so my brain and its nurturing were focused heavily on math and science. As a child, I liked toys that were fun to me, and I am thankful that my parents never tried to limit my curiosity and affinity based upon some societal norm. I loved jigsaw puzzles and my father’s vintage erector set, and I built elaborate homes for all of my Barbie dolls using blocks and bricks. I had a little bit of everything (partially because I grew up affluent and spoiled), but if I had to pick a favorite toy, it would be Lego. Sometimes, I did wonder why their were so few girls in my favorite Lego sets, but it never swayed my feelings I never expected to be a minority. I grew up white as can be in white suburbia, in a nice town, in a great school system getting average grades. I loved blocks, and ponies, and riding my bike. Nothing about my childhood seemed anything other than typical. It wasn't until college that my being female made me feel any different. I majored in Accounting and minored in Comp Sci at a liberal arts college with a 75% female student body. My business classes were 75% male and I was the only female in a class of 30 in my minor. Growing up, I never heard anyone say “you can’t do that because you're a girl”, so I never felt that way, but it was still a bit odd to be surrounded by men while exploring MY interests. My Lego collection (mostly Pirates, Castle and City) had a similar affliction. Though I did delight at the nuance of the rare female pirate, I never let a silly thing such as whether or not my toys were intended for girls or boys determine what I really liked. I viewed my education and intended career with the same carefree attitude, although I still remember my one female accounting professor enlightening me to the fact that only 10% of CPAs are women. Years passed. I finished school. I got a job. I got married. I started a family. I quit working 3 days before the birth of my 4th and final female child (my poor husband is plagued with daughters). At that point, I started to notice all the ways in which I am a minority. As an SAHM, I am part of only 24% of US mothers. The majority work at least part-time. I have more kids than the national average, and as a result, a minuscule net worth. The most important way that I am a minority, is because of my intelligence. According to SAT and GRE scores, I am ranked in the highest 5% of the population (among those who have taken these tests). Needless to say, after the first year at home, I got bored. Hence, I came out of my dark ages, just as my oldest decided she NEEDED the full line of Harry Potter Lego. I never much cared that Lego was "for boys". I just really liked the product. My girls and I are Lego maniacs, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Close to a year ago, I registered on BrickPicker. I read the forums, but didn't start posting until a few months ago. I had no idea I had so much to say. It was refreshing to chat with “adults”. As an AFOL, I really liked finding a place to share my thoughts instead of monopolizing the time of my local Lego Store employees. As an AFFOL (the first F stands for female), I started to notice just how very male the Lego reseller market is. As with most things, it doesn't really matter to me, but I do find it a point to ponder. I look forward to sharing with you as I explore the impact of gender on Lego sales and marketing. 41. Just saying hi from another female on the forum! I was a Computer Science major in college, so I can relate to your comment about being the only girl in the classroom :-) Good luck with collecting and investing! I'm kind of new to it all myself.
  42. Thank you for sharing your personal feelings on the subject. The LEGO Universe has definitely made strides as of late to attract more women and girls into the hobby. When people talk about "emerging markets" in the LEGO investing and reselling world, they think of China and other untapped markets. The real and more important "emerging market" might just be women...

I ordered a 66052 Cargo Train from Amazon.co.uk, and it arrived in a clear plastic bag similar to what others described. The label had been applied to a piece of cardboard and then cut out and inserted into a pouch in the bag, which seems odd. Is this how it was originally shipped or did UPS dismantle the packaging at some point and put it in a bag? Needless to say, it was in rough shape and came open in transit. I contacted them and they offered 20% back or to return the set. 20% off put it very close to 50% off MSRP, so I chose to keep it and build it with the kids, they were stoked.
