  1. Saw this on another forum. Sums it up!
  2. I can't take credit for this, but... Announcing the next UCS set: Adventure on Tatooine
  3. I have been busy at work, so I haven't really had the time to discuss this set. I have thought about it more and this set in particular really disturbs me. The one thing that has driven the LEGO secondary market for years are sets geared towards the adult collector. The nonsense I read above from a LEGO rep talking about "LEGO sets need to be played with" is just dumb. They are all played with...aren't they? The large display models don't come assembled, do they? If you want to destroy the LEGO company, just go back to the dull set designs of the 80s and 90s that were based on "play." The company almost went bankrupt releasing the same retreads over and over again. This set is an example of laziness. It has been redone in smaller sets dozens of times. Enough. It is nowhere close to the old UCS standards, the same standards that helped bring LEGO out of its financial and creative hole. If the new standard of a UCS set is brick count, we are all in trouble. LEGO is messing with the flagship theme of LEGO with uninspiring sets like this. Even the rumored reissue of the Snowspeeder hurts the theme. You are telling me they have run out of ideas and have to remake another UCS set? Maybe this is a one time deal. Maybe the up and coming UCS sets will meet the previous standards. The recent Slave I and TIE Fighter were excellent sets. But if we start getting more of these large retreads based around "play" then lookout. The Ultimate Collector Series will no longer be "ultimate" as a collectible or even as a LEGO set.
  4. You know a set is kinda doomed when Lego has to highlight the # of helmets included. "Accessories include 7 Hoth Rebel helmets, 2 Snowtrooper helmets, and Wes and Wedge’s flight helmets." http://brickset.com/article/19256/assault-on-hoth-press-release-and-images
  5. Perhaps they meant to call the set "Insult on Hoth" ?
  6. Yes...remove the tag and it's acceptable. The Ewok Village is deserving of a UCS tag, this set is not.
  7. They just need to take the UCS tag off of it. It's a great playset for kids but not for adults at all. If Ewok Village is not deserving of the tag neither is this.
  8. Given the nature of the opinions on this board (from here) the 75098 UCS Assault on Hoth should be retiring shortly.
  9. 1/2 price Hoth May 4th, 2017
  10. I don't usually post here, but........ My wife went to a large consignment sale last night and sent me a text of a picture of a Detectives Office. I thought she was pulling my leg. Price on box said $98. I asked if it was sealed she said yes. When she came home I inspected the box and sure enough brand new sealed DO for $98.
  11. "Sound the alarms, the base is being assaulted!" "By how many?!" "Two!" "Two AT-ATs?!" "No, two guys." "Oh."
  12. This thread is making for a hilarious read. Got to love the guy feeling genuine rage. Didn't realise toys had the power to extract such strong emotions from grown men. Priceless
  13. I would have no problem with this set IF: It was called "Hoth Defense Base". This is no assault. There are no AT-ATs. The Wampa did not assault the Rebel base. Remove the UCS label. List at $179 MSRP. Written apology from LEGO with an enclosed 10% coupon towards an AT-AT purchase on Amazon, eBay or Brickclassifieds.
  14. Okay, this picture really says it all! Brilliant!
  15. This meme sums up this thread perfectly
  16. Only if you sell them.
  17. Looks like crap. LEGO standards are lowering.
  18. How can the set not be that bad, but then require additional sets be included for free in order to sell out? Good sets don't need that.
  19. This showed up at New York Toy Fair today. No word exactly on how to get it. Reddit user thought it was in a buddy's goodie bag. Hopefully more info to come
  20. This set sucks but I'm a glass half full kind of guy. One less set I have to worry about buying.
  21. But now for some good news:
  22. You know a set sucks when they give measurements of speeder bikes...
  23. This set wouldn't get nearly the hate if it cost $200 and didn't have the UCS label. If the person writing the set description has spent any time building at all, they had to be laughing the whole time they wrote it.
  24. For an upcoming set review I built the 75060 Slave I. Many people saying that this set is huge, but it's hard to imagine anyway so I thought I'd share this picture: As you can see, Lincoln Memorial easily slides underneath Slave I if put on its stand. The train and old town truck are insects compared to the minifigure-scale Star Wars ship. I hope to finalize the blog soon. Bit of research to be done first...
  25. Some day thousands of this set will get buried in a big hole somewhere in the Nevada Desert - right between those E.T. game catridges from Atari on one side and thousands of Exo Suits on the other.
  26. I really want to know how TLG is defining UCS. Forget investment aspect for a minute, as a builder and a big fan , this is a disgrace to the subtheme if the pic is in fact accurate .
  27. Looks like an insult to the gold seal
  28. Lego press release on May 4, 2018: "Assault on Hoth was the first set 100% bought by investors, who know the value of the Lego UCS brand. All of the 47 sets sold during its 6 month life span were bought by bulk buyers with 2 or more items each."

If you want to chat/comment about 75098 Assault on Hoth by itself, please visit the thread so we can keep the conversation in one place. If you want to talk about 75098's affect on the AT-AT, then you can keep doing so here. Not moving any posts, just want to keep the distinction between the two threads before it goes off the rails. Thanks.
  30. What worries me is that we keep saying this. Didn't we just say this about the Winter Toy Shop reissue? "Maybe this is a one time deal" that they decided to reissue that. When you're on top, there's only one direction to go...
  31. Wow, that was bad (seems even worse now, after seeing the video). But as they mention, we seem to get lots of new stickers. Plus that idiotic lookout tower/lift thing (that doesn't even exist). I like how the designer mentions it would be cold up there (almost as if he was embarrassed by how ridiculous it is).
  32. 9493 X-Wing $189 Shipped. I remember I passed on the EOL deal at YO-YO buy 3 came out to $44 each since I was getting them at TRU for $36-$40 and I knew there was a remake coming and 10240 Red 5 should put a ceiling on sale price. I am happy with the returns on this set just wish I bought more.
  33. That would be the worst investment of your LEGO life. This set will not be bought by adults and it's too expensive for kids. A loser...unless it's a short production run.

The white color tone is superb. Not very many sets are in white with snow theme.

of course they will release a new one but not this year. 900+ piece at-at's are like clockwork 3-4 years. 2003-2007-2010-2014. 2017-2018 would be the time to worry. plenty of time to sell. especially when the new "UCS" hoth battle set is missing the most important part.
  36. Kinda strangle that you actually came to that conclusion ... From what I've read, most I see are negative comments towards this set .... Not seeing much debate at all ... And definitely not seeing love from most SW Lego fans .... By the way, I saw this on Reddit by someone saying that this is going to be the upcoming Death Star set ... Selling for $300 ~~~ LOL
  37. I did not buy a silver centurion, they gave it to me
  38. I am sorry Obi-Wan but your 10215 has officially lost its place as the worst UCS ever.
  39. I bought my monthly ecto-1
  40. I didn't know I already have a ucs hoth set.
  41. My firehouse headquarters arrived today from LEGO Shop at Home. The box is insanely huge and looks great, I just want to put it on a display shelf. But I think I'll not be able to resist opening and building it :-D...
  42. Ride your firebike into eternity, the wind forever in your face
  43. I just saw five Red 5's and passed them up too. Will wait for ten people to post and ask me where I saw them before I share that info. SMH
  44. i will go out on a limb here but... imo almost ANY star wars LEGO at 50% off MSRP is a buy with a 12-24 month post EOL hold time. exception being some of the weirder looking Buildable figures like Finn or Obi Wan which will make it to the major markdown and will have little demand. just based on how even crappier SW sets have been doing, final duel at that price is a score (to me) given its original trilogy material and its a decent looking set with excellent minifigures. think about how stoked the forums would be if a retailer had a BOGO FREE set on Star Wars lego which is essentially your deal. the 3 downsides of this specific set: 1) demand is sort of meh. never sold out. discounted for a large part of its like to around $55. 2 big to ship 3) i don't see any flip potential here even at that price because it is being discounted a little at most retailers and so you'd wouldn't even get MSRP and its not even sold out or probably close to EOL so this is buying with an eye to holding 12-24 months post EOL. parked capital will limit other buying opportunities and might be put to better work. that being said, the monkey on my back would not let me leave 50% off star wars lego on the shelf because of how well that scenario has played out time and time again and if i came across that set at that price and those TFA sets at that price, i'd go in for the shelf-swipe arm fully extended.
  45. This is my classic space display. I have some other small sets as well.
  46. Hey guys...thanks for the replies. Here is my entire collection of Lego Classic Space sets. As you can see, some of the boxes are pretty worn by years of play and storage. Some even have the original price tag still attached to the boxes!
