After having the Death Star remain available for 50 years, and giving everyone more than enough time to get one - I find it very hard to believe that they would re-release a virtual copy of the 10188 (unless LEGO is actually aiming for the complete destruction of re-sellers). But if it is so....8 points

i believe there is a big difference between "loose" and "lose" loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place; detached or able to be detached. lose: be deprived of or cease to have or retain (something).5 points

It definitely did. And the horde saw that, then the horde got a "second chance" for about six months, the horde stocked up, and now the horde is expecting a repeat of what happened over the summer. Take Orthanc for example. It disappeared in mid-August and I personally believe it would be selling for $275-300 at the moment (in the U.S.) if it had stayed dead. The scramble would have ensued and prices would have done well. The problem is that it didn't stay dead. It was available at Target and Amazon pretty much every day for the past four months (including this morning!), giving everybody their "second chance" to stock up. Same thing has happened with Red 5. Lots and lots of second chancing. And the prices for Orthanc and Red 5? $225-$250 ish. Juxtapose that with HH and TH last year - they offered very few "second chance" opportunities. And look what happened. If DS had stayed dead in July, it would be crushing it right now. Let's hope the "second chancing" effect didn't ruin that.4 points

Not to split hairs, as it probably should go to the Ethics thread - but matching TRU.com stil counts as a price MATCH. Some cashiers may do Price Adjustment, but they are actually incorrect in doing so. Price Adjustment is something that is supposed to happen after point of sale, (after coupons have been applied, yadda yadda). Eg: You buy $100 set, apply coupon and TRUTH - and it comes down to $75. You see an advertisement for said set for $70. You can come in and get it ADJUSTED down to $70, getting a refund of $5. With the TRU website, in this example - if you buy something at $140, use a coupon and TRUTH and it comes down to $110, and see it on the website for $115, price adjusting won't do you any good as you are still up $5. You can ask for a Price Match before hand, but coupons will no longer work. Just want people to be aware of what they are doing when they do it. If you are asking for a price that's on TRU.com, it's still a Price Match, and theoretically coupons and whatnot should not apply. Using the Price Adjustment is a loophole as Exciter mentioned, not everyone will do. So if you want to toe the line, at least be aware you are doing so. (Similarly, as most people know - you aren't really "supposed" to stack coupons or even re-use the same coupon.) Again, not starting a war or casting opinions, just stating how the policy is SUPPOSED to work. Carry on.4 points

I smell a big rat. Tumbler should have at least gone to backorder by now unless they have made a whole heap of them by mistake and the retiring soon tag is a ruse. The longer it is available for the horde, the less attractive an investment it will be Vs Death Star.3 points

This will have to be at least $500 to match the 10188. Also they don't tend to use as many hard bricks nowadays, I would doubt that the weight would be more than 2/3 of the 10188. More plates, less bricks, same number of figs, at least 20% higher price. I still say the 10188 will be unique. This should be different in many aspects. Moreover, if they want people who own a 10188 buy this one too they HAVE to make it different.3 points

I think main target are not the people who already have one. On the same basis why not retire 10188 after just 2 years because people already had it? New buyers were always coming, kids reaching the age where they can build one. If they could sell a Death Star for 8 years they will be able to sell it for another 8. Most exclusives are mainly bought by collectors, but I always thought DS is different. If it was sought after mainly by collectors then it would have been discontinued ages ago.2 points

Presumably a 2016 DS will be to 10188 what a 2016 modular is to a 2008 modular. Fewer brick built shapes, more small details, fewer exposed studs, more SNOT techniques. That would be what i would be designing. Then tie it in with the new movie releases s required, and you're done. So Brick Bank level of details, vs, Green Grocer. Both good sets, but methods updated, interior details improved, more imagination added even?2 points

just2good said it was just an updated, bigger, better version of 10188. There was skepticism when he said 10188 would retire, there was skepticism when he said a new Death Star was coming in 2016, and there is still skepticism about what exactly the next Death Star will be. It might be time to start believing him.2 points

Do you count panicking and buying more than my credit card can hold in a month with hopes to flip for big profits and then return all these sets to TRU when it doesn't pan out a plan? (In other words, every successful investor should have a plan.)2 points

In for number 3. I had number three during the sold out run of the summer but it was shipped from target. I held it for ninety days then returned it as it was slightly damaged during shipping. Used $115 in points, $210 from a City Lot I sold yesterday $20 from a target cube. $65 from cashing in my change jar and $20 in my pocket to put me over the top. Lego store guy (We all now their reliability) says end of the year they will be gone. At $400 a pop I don't have capital for a lot but when they are gone these will be $550 overnight (As history has shown us). target was out last night, Wal-Mart is out today. I don't think they exist in the wild like they did when it went to sold out in the summer. The warning shot has been fired and I don't think there will be a reprieve this time. When it goes Sold Out it will be done. (IMHO)2 points

Just had my first SNAD case opened on me today. I was feeling depressed and helpless. But after seeing all you experienced people out there still selling like it is normal, I feel confident again. Thank you all.2 points

Why not? 75059 (SC), 75060 (Slave1), 75095 (TIE), 75098 (Hoth)... 75159 would fit with dropping UCS in the normal numbering scheme, based on when the set hit some state of development. regular 2016 sets are already up to 75146 (Advent), so likely will not know for sure till the end of the year.2 points

You guys should have dropped that in it's own thread. http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/15396-75159-the-death-star-2016/2 points

5823 parts for $150, that works out to $0.025 per brick. Just think about it: we were all congratulating ourselves in the daily deal thread on scoring the LEGO Large Creative Box for $30 on Black Friday at midnight ... that deal works out to $0.02 per brick, and likely much less variation in bricks then what you've got there (granted, new bricks versus used, but nothing a nice dishwashing liquid bath cannot solve). So make nice bundles of the lot, give those bundles to the boys and tell them "random building challenge, let's see who can make the best build!" .....2 points

It's that time of year, when you do something nice for someone else, to be generous, to say thanks and take time to appreciate what you have and what you can give. None of us would be here taking advantage of one of the best resources of our new found hobby in LEGO collecting/investing if it weren't for two brothers, our fearless leaders, Jeff and Ed. If you'd like to send them a little Holiday gratitude Pm me. mods: if there's a more appropriate place for this post please move it and add a stickie while you're at it.2 points
