  1. A few things over the past 24 hours... To much to list but tis the season!!

  2. The ban is a very interesting topic. I've said before, and I'll say again, that Lego wants its products to increase in value after they retire. TLG wants consumers standing there in the store holding that $200 set and thinking "I know it's expensive but these things become collector's items and that justifies the price. So I'm going to buy it." So to some extent, Lego requires a post-retirement secondary market (with much higher prices) to legitimize its MSRP prices and to augment the brand. This drives up sales and drives up profits. TLG wants this - but they want it after they decide to stop producing a specific item. What TLG doesn't want is people "scalping" their products - the QFLL in particular. Lego doesn't want you making a $20 profit off the set that you don't want to open and play with but somebody else does, and, unfortunately that "someone else" wasn't quick enough or informed enough to get it for himself, but you were. TLG doesn't want resellers stealing its profits and frustrating its "playing customers" because it can't keep up with all the demand and it can't keep 100 copies of each and every set on each and every shelf in each and every town on the planet. That's my two cents anyway. TLG wants to protect the people who play with their toys, but they also secretly love the massive price jumps when they retire a product - almost as much as we do.

  7. How about trying "Weinerboy"? Is your LEGO S@H name the same as your eBay account?

  8. No... it is called Black Bounty in Spain. Anyway... never mind. Offcourse there will most probably more customers (kids) for the Brick Bounty. But therefore it is also widely available. If you sell EEE MISB you have nothing to fear from the stickers. The buyer will have to deal with them.

  9. Sold a couple Indominus Rex 75919 sets the past few weeks, which was nice. However, the best news was I received a credit/GC from eBay (since it was one of their Hot Items) replacing my fees. Which I then used to purchase a GC from StubHub and promptly bought 2nd row seats behind home plate to take my son to his first MLB game next year. Seats that I normally would never afford, but I thought “EBay credit/GC covered a good chunk, why not!?” Now, if only I could get Exciter to find me some corn dog coupons and we’d be all set! And I would like to say thank you to all those on this site that contribute and are helpful, I do appreciate it.

Also got three more of the towers from the web earlier so that gives me 11 regular and one duplo, four bike shops and two artic bases. There was 48 lego towers on the pallet and Wal-Mart when it started. thirty seconds later there was zero.

  24. So... Temple of Airjitsu... Got one with the recent deal with that free Serpent thingie set. This set is blimmin' GORGEOUS. The details, the building techniques... this deserves to be more popular than the modular buildings, all other things equal. Love the use of the speargun used as a desk lamp support, the upside-down garage jointed panels for the roofs of the buildings, the way the small curved staircases are build by simultaneously facing three directions. And the end result is breath taking. I don't even care about the minifigs (I'll probably sell them off). Just gorgeous.

  25. I built the Black Seas Barracuda today. Well, over the past week. I bought this on CL along with about 8 other pirate sets from the same era, and some LOTR sets. I got them all for $45. Total score, I have the box to Barracuda, and instructions for the dozen or so sets. The build was pretty fun. The old skool techniques are a bit painful compared to newer sets. One major difference is the instructions. The entire set was just 28 steps in the manual. I feel like a set this size would easily be 2 big manuals by todays standards. They packed in a lot of changes into each step. I had to backtrack MANY times because I missed something. There is no highlighting or diagrams for which parts will be used in the step. The minifigures are pretty cool, I can picture some good imaginative play with the blue vs red capped pirates. The interior details are very poor. There is a whole roof section that is hinged, that just reveals a simple treasure box. Very lack-lustre compared to the BP or QAR interiors. But the colors are pretty cool. I need to flatten my sails for sure, but I wanted to snap a quick pic with the finished product. I'm missing a few pieces that I hope are fairly common. If there are any classic pirate system fans out there, shoot me a PM if you are interested, I'm going to put it up for sale as soon as I get the spare parts.

  30. Got at the Lego store at 6 this morning and got 10 sets and 5 Gingerbread Houses. I no these sets have a long way to go, but since I have all of the Exclusives that been out for a long time, its time for me to start getting the newer stuff, and I was surprised when they let me buy all this stuff at the one Lego store, there were alot of other guys buying alot of sets, as for the AT AT they only had a few and since I have plenty I really didn't care. As for the 10 sets I paid $190 each as I used alot of VIP Points. Ed

  41. We just have to be aware that it could also have something to do with the Lego shortage. But that should be an european issue only. So if in the US it is showing the signs as well we'd better suit-up and bust the remaining ecto's.

  42. It may be a stretch trying to make a straight comparison between a vehicle and a toy but there are some basic principles we as a consumer expect from a product regardless of sticker price (although I will add the higher the price then the higher of level for perfection is expected). Stability of design How well the model can handle the rough laws of physics and randomness in nature. Truthfully the design could be considered ugly as sin in my eyes or yours. What matters is if it holds together and endures against the rough vigors of life. Quality of material The level of refinement for the raw ingredients ultimately affects the end result meaning even if one were using the best equipment yet the lowest grade textiles then all you would get back is a well-made piece of junk. Consistency between inventory While nothing can realistically be hundred percent accurate to each item rolling off the assembly line, the technologies available make any possible discrepancies quite minimal. Safety of usability Well obviously the last thing we want is for the product to suddenly explode in a great ball of fire for no good reason. Ha. There are numerous standardized tests of endurance a company has set aside for its product. However some bugs can still slip through and only rear their ugly head under more normal everyday living circumstances or difficult to recreate rare occurrences.Although the valley between pricing for a toy car to an actual car is enormous and more is to be expected from the real thing (rightfully so), there is a general level in what is to be expected from either one. Of course a person cannot demand for example a Hot Wheels model of a Rolls Royce to be the same as the real deal yet even so one should count on the toy to be of good quality and actually look like the vehicle it is based on. Perhaps this is why many are disappointed by LEGO's latest Creator Expert Ferrari because it is not completely perfect in their eyes.

  43. Since this devolved into a NIN band discussion, I was never a big fan of the band, though this was probably their best album on a mainstream level. Does anybody remember David Bowie's "I'm afraid of Americans?" Trent Reznor is the guy chasing him in the video if memory serves me correctly, which is really hazy since this was during my college days and I wasn't in there for 5.5 years for no reason.

  45. More sets...More chances of errors and issues. I am still impressed with the overall quality of the sets considering the enormous quantities made. I think box quality is improving and minifigures are way better than years ago. I think this hobby is filled with overly smart...and anal...people, who nitpick things to death. What bothers me more is the lack of creativity by re-releasing sets like the Winter Toy Shop.
