  1. Don't post anything about money making, flipping, especially Lego on social media accounts. People get jealous, people will follow and try to flip and that brings competitions which make it harder for you to make money, let alone all of us. And most importantly, you don't know who's looking at your post. Home burglaries aiming to steal/rob Lego inventories are not unheard of in this forum.

Target Cartwheel has Dimensions for 35% off today. Additionally, if you text GAMER to 827438, you get an additional 10% off Toys to Life Games, including Dimensions. That takes it down to $58. Add Red Card for another 5% off to get it down to $55

This was good for a laugh today... I think eBay is overestimating my ability to acquire more Lego to sell...

Hi anyone care to venture a guess at the value on this custom Lego Colosseum. It's around 24in tall and a little over 45in in diameter. I'm only guessing but I think it weighs around 100lbs. I dont know how many total pieces but it has to be in the tens of thousands. I can count hundreds of pieces just in a small section of the structure. Also included are around 135 roman mini figures. It came from a major movie studio prop department.

  14. Speaking of beautiful... I got the Bold-Arrow voodoo workin' today... a wink & a smile works in Charlotte, too. I found an I-Rex on the shelf today, figured I'd try all coupons I had: the 20% off, $5 off, and $10 gift card for $75 purchase... well of course, they wouldn't all go through. The newbie cashier said the 20% and $5 worked, but the $10 gift card would not... I was very understanding... "Oh that's fine... I just thought I'd give it a try... thank you for trying..." But she wouldn't give up. She called over the more senior cashier (who has scanned 100's of my coupons this year). She smiled, "Nice to see you! Didn't see you here last Saturday?.." she took control of the scanner... didn't work right away, and then..beep... beep-beep... $91.37. I'm thinking "That's less than I expected... quick... run my card please..." When I got out to the car, I'm looking over the receipt: 20% check.... $5 off check... and then the line "21.40 SAVINGS DEC. $10 GIFT CARD" ... What? I'm not complaining... but whatever that coupon was... I'd like to get more of those

I have it for my Wii U console. And I think it's a really fun game. It is sharing similarities with previous Traveller's tales Lego games in the sense of collecting studs, looking for hidden gold bricks, the special red brick, collecting mini-sets, switching between characters to use their special abilities... The difference here is of course the mixing of different Lego worlds. And the portal device which requires frequent interaction by moving the figures from one spot on the portal device to another based on changing colours. One major advantage of the Wii U version over the Playstation or Xbox version is how co-op can be played on two screens instead of doing a split-screen on the TV. With the Wii U player 1 can use the gamepad and watch his actions there, while player two can use the TV and watch his actions there, using the full width of the TV. I haven't really progressed far yet, but am enjoying it whenever I have some spare time to play. I also have two kids (boy of 9 and girl of 6) and they do enjoy playing it too, though my daughter finds it a bit difficult yet. But my son has friends from school coming over and they do enjoy playing it together in co-op mode.

  24. I thought it would be a great idea to check in on some sets that don't get a lot of press around here to see exactly how they are doing now. I love 'where are they now' editions of TV shows so if nothing else posting this will please me, and perhaps others like me. Also, I think learning from history is better than not learning history, so for new(er) members, these type of posts might be instructive at best or eye-rolling at worst. I was casually checking through my stockroom a few days ago, organizing, moving boxes around, admiring pretty sets, etc., when my eyes fell upon my admittedly small stash of #60026 Town Squares (in all fairness, I admit to only having four). I hadn't checked in on this old fellow for a bit so pulled up some eBay sold listings. I was pleasantly surprised to see the eBay trend price is $218 CAD with a few selling above that number (as of Nov. 12, 2015). This piqued my curiosity because I know I purchased these last year 20% off (plus VIP) from S&H in December 2014. For an eleven month hold I have to admit to being downright jolly about this set's performance. Perhaps it is because I was very conservative in my expectations (say, $200+ CAD 18 months after retirement or so) or maybe I am just happy anytime I 'know' I can sell a set for at least some profit after taxes and fees and such (it definitely placates my significant other as well to show her sale prices over $200 CAD so she knows this set is almost certainly going to make at least some profit). Not every set can be the Zombies or the Town Hall. I believe a solid portfolio should be balanced, and this large City set seems like it would have been a good one to add to any investor's portfolio at a reasonable discount. I know, I know, buy in is always a combative point in the forums, but I think we can mostly almost always 100% of the time agree that City sets can be found at discount at some point in their product cycle. So why has this quiet little (big) set done pretty well in the last eleven months? The Good: A short production lifespan. Brickset.com lists its availability from Aug 1, 2013 to December 2014. I can't remember the exact day, but it was post Boxing Day 2014. It lasted a bit at 20% off on Shop at Home, but not crazy long (like Kingdom's Joust at 20% off...which considering the derision some heaped on it whilst on sale, it will still eke out profits if sold today). I regret not grabbing a couple more, actually. I think I was entirely too concerned with festive celebrations and not doing due diligence to realize this run was actually well under what I will simply call 'average' (debate what average is to you in your own posts...to me it is around two years, give or take a couple months, so this was a significant difference from MY concept of average). I also was probably so full of holiday cheer that I forgot I had done quite well on 8404 Public Transport. Again, not fireworks, but bought at discount near EOL, held for less than a year and solidly collected cash. Virtual money in your portfolio isn't nearly as sweet as the real cash I got from selling my 8404's and pushing that money right back into other sets. Little buzz. I just reread some of the six (yes! all six pages!) of the 60026 discussion. It was a real barn-burner in some sections...scintillating reading, really! I posted in that thread a few times! And if you are reading this, you've already at least partially allowed your brain to think my jibber-jabber is relevant and useful to you! Also, I think if you took out the posts about the initial launch and the flurry of posts when it went on sale on S&H near the end there were possibly only a handful of other posts in the intervening 15 months. Boooo-ring! I think part of this is that (at least in Canada) it was a TRU exclusive and difficult to get with any significant discount. I seem to remember about 20% with some air miles bonuses about the best I could muster. South of the border I'm sure some of you used 'American coupon magic' (that is banned in Canada) to get your buy in crazy low, but I don't recall any massive sales on this set in my parts (which probably accounts for the rather paltry amount of chatter about this set). More expensive successor. I think having 60097 City Square come out at a higher MSRP helped 60026. I think one could make a counter-argument or argue that any successor ultimately will limit the growth of 60026 but I tend not to agree with any hypothetical naysayers. I imagine the kind of people buying 60026 over MSRP do so not in lieu of purchasing its 'replacement' (a large City 'scene', if you will) but buy it because they want it in addition to 60097. Higher values of one (at least to me) seem to go hand in hand with higher values for the other. City sets are winners! Ha! I know a multitude of BPers will disagree, but no matter! I have made solid, steady and often unremarkable gains on City sets and like it that way. If you look at City's 15.79% CAGR and then throw out the humdrum police and fire sets, you *might* begin to see that some of the more unique sets in this theme seem to do rather well, even though it is an unlicensed theme and whole subthemes are under threat of a refresh at any given time. That does mean a savvy investor has to be always on the lookout for rumors and leaks of future themes/sets so product can be moved when necessary, but that is a risk I'm willing to take. I don't wish I had fifty of these, partly because I don't have that kind of capital to tie up in a single set and partly because even if this set is $250-275 CAD next Christmas I don't know if I could quickly find a home for so many at once (and I rely on regular sales to keep the investing side of the machine running), but I do wish I had about 10-15. So, what can we learn by looking at a slow, steady gainer eleven months post-EOL? Hopefully something to help us make better choices going forward. I know I buy much more selectively now than a few years ago, and I try to find a comfortable little niche where I can buy-sell-rinse-repeat enough to keep money coming in and a smile on my face. Perhaps you'd like to join me? BigBlueDogBricks (Veegs) </p>

  26. Second biggest according to Brickset... 10184 - Town Plan was bigger with 1980 vs 1677 pieces. The tree in 10184 will give this one a run for it's money, but I agree using the round 2x2 bricks for the trunk was a sucky move. They should have just expand a little on the one from the spring time scene (40052).

I haven't played it, but I'm expecting a more polished Lego game where I now have to buy characters with actual money, not digital studs, to unlock them. I think Lego knew what they were doing trying to tie in some nostalgia with BTTF, Scooby, Ghostbusters. If it was just Chima, Ninjago, and some superheros stuff there is no way I would consider giving this as a Christmas gift. I miss the OG Xbox giant controller.
  28. I just requested it removed, and Amazon did it automatically because the customer marked item as not received. Not sure it would help in your case because the item was damaged, but maybe worth a try.

  31. I'm similar, but I tend to turn over 50+ plus sets a month. Mainly the smaller ones and use the money to acquire the larger ones, so I'm in an endless cycle of being broke
  32. Another great article by FCB. The OT collecting community does have a special place in their hearts for Jawas. I have no idea why but it's something about these little guys and gals with their scrap in the desert and cruising (very slowly) in their city in a box on trends. Maybe that is why I like them also. The original Kenner plastic toy (not the cardboard one) is also still highly sought after along with the vinyl cape and non-US figures. I would also consider the Sandcrawler iconic enough for Lucas feel the need to feature it more in the special edition New Hope (going back to the 1998 version) and put a cameo of it in Eps 1 and 2. All of the above and more are was 10144 was an investing darling for until 75059 was released. MISB 10144s were selling for $350+ consistently on eBay until early 2014. Not bad for a $140 MSRP set that many purchased at discount. Having seen Jawa toy merchandise explode in value since the Kenner days, I would suggest not over looking this set. Heck, I've been preaching about 75059 to FCB and other BPs for a while now. ...if only it makes an appearance in The Force Awakens. Then this Sandcrawler will start cruising pretty fast.

  34. Virtual profit is the best kind and doesn't take up too much room in your wallet.
  35. Now it's 65% RRP? Last week it was only 50% RRP, and amazon prices seem to have fell another 10.00. Whatever. Saw 3 RE's at my local wm this week, and 2 IR's, and left them all. I've already hit my limit, and i'm not buying anymore. Like, a guy said before, why continue to hit the same few sets over and over, when there are many others out there to buy. I'm definitely in agreement with that strategy, because if we let these slow down, maybe lego will retire them in the states, instead of saying "wow, these sell in 2 minutes, fire up the machines". There's a point where you have to realize you're part of the problem, not part of the solution.

  37. Bought the following today (drove from Baltimore to Cherry Hill , NJ for the grand opening of the Lego Store there): 2x Raptor Rampage (included free 40145 LEGO store at the Cherry Hill store grand opening)-paid only tax after using VIP points 1x Indominus Rex (included free 40145 LEGO store at the Cherry Hill store grand opening)-paid MSRP+NJ tax, but used apple pay and discover it card so will get 22% cash back 1x Deep Sea Operations Base (included free 40145 LEGO store at the Cherry Hill store grand opening)-paid MSRP+NJ tax 1x Temple of Airjitzu (included free Enter the Serpent set)-paid $145 after using VIP points and no tax in Delaware, also used apple pay and discover it card so will get 22% cash back 1x Coruscant Police Gunship and 1x Snowman 40093 from TRU- paid $38.46 for both after 20%, $5 off $25, discounted gc and TRUTH discounts (also included a red arm c3po for free, would have tried for the anachondrai mech also but they said they were sold out of them) I probably should have taken advantage of the no sales tax/apple pay+ discover it combo at the Delaware store, but it was a long day and I wanted to get home.
  38. They don't repackage it, but they are usually opened and re-taped with a special "eBay" tape. We have a thread somewhere about global shipping... I've had very good luck with one exception - they put the loose bricks back on the bottom and the set box on top. The weight of the box caused indents and scratches all over it despite the bricks being in a plastic bag... (yeah it mattered, it was an SDCC set that'll never leave the box). Someone else has had them cut the LEGO box with the knife used to open the box... so make sure you guys leave a little air space at the top or put a scrap piece of cardboard under the tape seam!

This one mostly fits into this topic. Here's an alternate take on the Sea Cow: I Think I Built My Sea Cow Wrong
  40. Admittedly as I am doing this for fun I go down to sets that may only sell for £1. I am much more picky when it comes to buying bulk lots. I want to "see" a number of valuable sets within the pictures. Sometimes it's blinding obvious, ie the sets are half made up or the sellers put in pictures of the instructions. I should note here that I mainly look for vintage, 80's sets as that it what I grew up with. Valuable in this case means £10+ But, once I have bought a lot I will try to build as many sets as possible out of it. Right down to the one pounders. I like putting old sets back into circulation. And you can make more than you think from some of these "worthless" sets. For example. A 22kg lot which I bought for £300. The quick and easy to find sets were sold off quickly for a £320 profit based on their cost of £65. But this only equated to 4.5 kg leaving 17.5kg left over. With in this I found some model team sets, 5580 & 5590 selling those for £100. Plus a number of 1970's sets which I did not think would sell. So I listed them for £0.99 each to see if they would sell. 620 Fire Truck 1970 0.99 6.27 605 Taxi 1971 0.99 2.20 614 Digger 1974 0.99 1.20 611 Police Car 1973 0.99 1.21 643 Mobile Crane 0.99 5.50 612 Tipper Truck 1974 0.99 1.71 659 Police Patrol 1975 0.99 2.71 647 Lorry With Girders 1971 0.99 3.71 674 Forklift and Truck 1978 0.99 4.70 656 Car and Caravan 1974 1.99 5.50 691 Rescue Helicopter 1974 0.99 10.00 640 Fire Truck 1971 0.99 0.99 (Not sure if that table will post neatly) But all except one sold for more than its listing price which surprised me. Proving, you can never tell. Profit from them was £28. I did still have 9kg of this lot left over which I sold as bulk bricks for a £20 loss. Not bad. I still have a few sets to list, including a 95% complete 6285 and my profit on this lot is passing £400, 80% return based on total costs. So to me, doing the little sets is worth it. But its whatever is good for you. Different people have different strategies.
