  1. I had a great day at the Brick Show today! I caused a bit of fuss while smooshing and found myself taking requests from other shoppers! My girlfriend found it hilarious as I kept getting referred to as some sort of minifigure wizard...

  2. Started the PR last night while handing out candy & just finished up. The detail on this is amazing. Of the 4 modulars I have done this is easily the nicest. Pains me to say that as I was determined to keep the GG as my fav but I just can't do it.

  3. Picked this up when Walmart had that flash sale for 50% off. Build was fun, definitely easier than the AROC. Took me about 5 hours, which was longer than I anticipated.

  7. I'd say another substantial problem for the EU horde is that the average living space here is a lot smaller than in the united states. For me the room is more a problem than the money.

  10. For all of you in south central NJ and the Philly suburbs, a new LEGO store will be opening in the Cherry Hill Mall. Finally I get a LEGO store 20 minutes from my house. Might look to get a job there!

  12. Still available on US site, and the last two seasonal vignettes are up. Limit 5 each. No more double VIP, but the train still makes it an excellent deal.

  13. They're both good movies, but I don't consider either one of them cult. They were both super popular hits when released. Sure there is a cult following of these movies, but the movie itself I wouldn't consider cult. That's like saying every Marvel movie about an Avengers character is cult because there certainly is a strong cult following for each. This is all just pop culture. BTTF and GB are big pop culture movies of the 80s.

  15. Everyone seems to be getting upset over a set that we don't even have all the details on. Everyone needs to wait for the entire set to be revealed before passing judgment.

  16. Lego's market research must have shown that ghostbuster fans are rabid, hostile, and have large amounts of disposeable income, yet do not like flashy exterior buildings:)

  17. I used this example to my wife a week ago. She has been watching all the Star Wars stuff online recently and she said, "I'm getting really excited for this movie." I told her that 16 years ago I went through the same thing, then I saw what was delivered. I am not a prequel hater, but it failed to meet expectations. Heck, after Phantom Menace, I figured they'd just get better, but then I saw Attack of the Clones and felt renewed disappointment. So, I am attempting to tone down my excitement level, except I have 2 little girls and a wife that have never seen Star Wars in a theater. The whole house is getting excited. Halloween they are Rey and Phasma, and I cannot help but feel like the dad in that new Toys R Us commercial.

  19. I can see why people are like meh - It's a sort of boring looking building to begin with but when you look at it, its an EXACT replica of the building in the motion picture which is why it has appeal. How wide that appeal is uncertain but with the price point comes scarcity and with scarcity comes profit following EOL. Plus I'm imaging a really cool interior. As Ed pointed out earlier, at the price point, the interior better be real and spectacular. I think this is going to make the Fire Brigade look like a "Bike Shop" size creator set when placed in proximity to each other. I think it is a mistake looking at this from an investing perspective as purely a "Ghostbusters" themed set. This is going to be the largest modular type building to date and guessing a shorter life span whether or not it is a big seller which i tend to doubt it will be. post EOL even non-Ghostbuster modular building fans will want this.

  20. You guys asked, and you shall receive. These were taken a couple of months ago, and I don't actually happen to have all the sets. Missing is the Imperial Shuttle, Ewok Village, and some winter village sets. Oh and detectives office is missing as well because it was destroyed by our friend's kid and had to be put back together which it was.

  27. depends a little bit on what you got! personally I love updating the classics as topic here, so wouldn't it be nice if you did something like that? ^^ also a MOC would bring some new life into the MOC thread ^.^

  28. So how does it work? After the update each time I go on "view new content" and then I open a thread with new content I end up on page 1... instead of the last post I have seen (as before). Or is there another way I just didn't discover yet? thanks

  29. Can I compare this to the ninjago temple? It had 15 exclusive minifigures. I sold them all at $10+ bucks each and ended up getting the set for free minus minifigures. If the GB minifigures go for $15ea Tis set ends up costing around $200, I could live with that

  30. I find it interesting that those who don't fancy this set are merely stating their opinions, be it the exterior design, piece count, price point etc. On the other hand, a few chaps on the other side of the crowd simply cannot accept that there can be people who will not like this set. Names are called, emotions run high.

  32. The fact that films like Back To The Future or Ghostbusters are still remembered to this day despite so little of any advertising for either over the years compared to the constant in your face franchising of Star Wars to me says more about how good those are by comparison. In some ways I wonder if Star Wars would be as popular today with the current generation if it wasn't for the merchandise always being refreshed. (I just saw a board game parody of "Loopin' Louie" called "Loopin' Chewie".) Trying to accurately scale the fan base for any of these film classics though is like trying to figure the exact (or close to) number of people presently living across the world. This set for what has been seen from the outside is very faithful to the source material which was basically an old firehouse. It may not have been a fancy historic landmark of one but the structure worked and people do remember it as the Ghostbusters firehouse. The point of blandness could easily be made with the older modular house sets in particular the Fire Brigade which was a simple two story firehouse but that did not need to be fancy for what it was. The price on the Ghostbusters HQ set is high and double of a standard modular house however the amount of parts included has also been doubled (small or not). I imagine roughly 2,000 of those went into the facade and characters with the rest detailing the interior which must have every tiny nook & cranny realistically detailed. (The Haunted House only had 2,064 pieces looking great from the outside while the interior was very minimal.) In any case, I eagerly await the Designer video showing off the fantastic interior to match the brilliant exterior.

  33. I too mostly agree with his post, except the insultingly worded "greedy pricks" which I found a bit overdone. :-P When I left my Lego Dark Ages last August I initially thought about putting my dormant money from the bank (at 1% interest) into Lego which would most likely give me a much better ROI than the bank's interest rate. But my old love for Lego returned as well when the boxes of these beautiful sets started flowing into my house and I couldn't resist opening a few of them and actually building the awesome sets in them. Now I consider myself as both a Lego collector and (limited) Lego investor. I do need to sell (with profit) most of the sets I bought at sometime in the future, so I free up money again to buy additional and new awesome sets for my own collection. :-)

  35. I'm just pissed that we get this $350 abandoned firehouse but Lego won't make a nice Lord of the Rings Minas Tirith for a fanbase begging for one. You want to talk about a $350 set that would have amazing secondary market capabilities?(that's not Star Wars) That's it.

  36. Finished UCS Slave I last night. Amazing, but holy sticker sheet, Batman. Still don't like stickers for UCS sets. That is my only complaint with this set. The build was very fun to watch it come together, and is not monotonous at all. Slave I's shape sort of lends to that. What to build next?

  38. Woah they start advertising massively for Star Wars now... Just went to REAL in Germany (shopping) and almost bought two energy drinks for 1,69€ each. They had a black can with Darth Vader on it (and another Black one with Darth Maul) as well as a golden one with Yoda on it (and another golden one with Chewbacca) that almost got me! I stood there staring at them... even put them into my basket... thinking "probably this won't taste good... and it's really not healthy... and you don't even like it... but the design is so awesome! it's star wars! you can drink it when you watch the movie at the cinema..." In the end I was strong enough and put them back... Also Disney Infinity got me and other offers... it was hard to resist!

  43. Just finished my third modular and second via bricklink. Spent a hair over $400 on it. Could have been cheaper but I stayed pretty true to the original except for the third floor windows. The front door, dark blue posts next to the doors, blue shirt minifig, and skis over the door were the priciest. I did end up with some extra doors so I can sell them to get it under $400... or do another one...
