  1. Finished the Bricktober sets from 2015 today with the TRU store. I am really surprised at the size difference between these and last year's sets but I much prefer the size of this year. I feel like the 2015 builds were more complex and used nicer bricks and in better colors. I took some photos of size for comparison. My favorite is the trains stain mostly because of the colors with the TRU store a very close second.

  2. This set reminds me of the ugly girl/boy friend you had in high school, who you see 4 years later and wished you had stuck around.

  10. I guess it is somewhat safe to say that the person on Bricklink who spoke of the new box in the Montreal LEGO store was full of crap.

  14. Here's how i see this set. Some AFOL's want a set that non-lego fans will see and say, "WHOA,,,,that's Lego?" They want an impressive display piece. They want something that looks screen accurate. This is the ONLY set from the LOTR / Hobbit series that accomplishes most of those requirements. (maybe the Unexpected Gathering does at a smaller scale)

  15. Honestly don't even sell them. Just find anyone who will take one and just get rid of it. The boxes have too many fall colors (it's almost winter), they take up too much shelf space, and it doesn't even come with a single hobbit, elf or dwarf minifigure. They're your whole demographic. This one is a stinkfest.

  18. It's available outside North America at shop at home. I'm guessing friends/associates in europe shipping to USA. It would be very nice if history were to repeat itself and walmart sells this as a $30 BF special.

  24. I wasn't trying to say hustle wasn't irrelevant... It takes a decent work ethic to find the best deals, to pack items well, to put effort into your listings, etc. I'm not questioning whether you work hard (you might, you might not.... not for me to decide) but even some people who work hard may not play fairly. Peyton Manning is revered as a nice guy who plays hard and works harder but is fair with everyone and everything. Tom Brady is a great football player, works hard, but got caught cheating and refuses to come clean. So what I was meaning is that regardless of how hard you work, in my mind it's not worth it if you abuse policies, coupons, discount programs because you've lost your integrity (and yes, that's my own subjective definition).

  26. But in this case it's as if mommy has a rule that says that you could only have 1 cookie before dinner. But Tommy keeps asking for another, and every time she just keeps giving them to him - as many as he wants. Come dinner time Tommy isn't hungry, and mommy is furious and outraged - So he is banned from the dinner table, for life.

  27. Unfortunately, buying direct from LEGO to resell also violates their policies of selling to end consumers only. It's not about the hustle, it's about playing the game with integrity. Some will get it (Peyton Manning), others won't (Tom Brady).

  28. Ok here is an update. Things have changed on how we get our data and the format that it is in. It seems that everyone in all the major companies are really either closing doors on data that is given out, or clamping down on how people share info. I have a bunch of code that I need to update in order to work with the new data. I need a few more days to work this out and make sure it's right. The good news is that, based on what I see, I hope that as everything moves forward, it will not need to be monthly updates. It could possibly make it's way to weekly updates, we will have to see. So if anyone asks where is the update, just point them to this post. I will try to get it out there as soon as I can.

  29. Hello there! I have been the fan of Lego from early childhood, when I built huge towers with 2x4 bricks. Three weeks ago I made my first purchase of Lego for investment purposes after talk with a shop assistant. This idea was initially brought to me by a friend around 3 years ago and kindly fostered after that, but the action took place only now. First purchase consisted of the palace cinema (worn out box, but "the set is rare and will dissapear soon") and the tumbler ("great potential, since it is batman"). The next day I found brickpicker - the tumbler was returned, PC was not increased in volume. I started reading the forum more and more and resulted in buying several R2-D2, ToO and AA. I have one PC, but assume the set is "over-hoarded", as you say here. I'm looking forward to investing more, one of considerable targets is 1-2 DS, which production is said to be closed down by the end of year. The question is - what should I do to post immediately without approval of moderator? Regards, Denis

  30. I'm a proponent of using the tilde to encapsulate a sarcastic sentence. It was a unique idea i've had, and i claim full credit for inventing it. I think it makes it very clear, and even makes sense to folks who haven't heard of the idea before. Example below: ~The idea is bound to make me rich and famous~

  32. I'll finish the header "Toy giant Lego has warned of Christmas shortages as it battles to meet rising demand of new resellers" On a serious note the move to expand their production on such a scale is concerning. Investors are putting huge amounts of money into Legos business. Say for example the average family/parent spends £300 a year on Lego for their child, that would mean that this year alone I've invested the equivelant of 80 times more. Stock is not an indication of demand, something I wonder if TLG have seriously considered.

  37. The 75038 Jedi Interceptor went from "call to check" to "sold out" so maybe it is done for good. I have a handful but was thinking about picking up a few more. I know the green 9494 has done ok if you got it at a nice discount, but on the other hand a red version with Obi-wan is due next year. Not sure what to think of this one. Maybe I should put the money in Grievous' Wheel Bike since that will probably not be revisited any time soon.

  42. Ideas plays in a different league from SW.... In my case, 15% of portfolio is DS but all bought well below RRP so I am 100% sure of it. My 1 Delorean was sold to a friend of a friend for RRP but it made someone else very happy. Can´t win ´em all.
