Ferrari F40. Total love-hate relationship with this car... Love: 1) the ways that Lego designers are able to create angles and shapes is absolutely astonishing. I love when I am building a section that I have no idea where it is headed until I pop it in to place. There are plenty of surprises in this build. 2) the wow factor. I gotta hand it to Lego, they have made another incredible vehicle. I was concerned what having two red cars on the shelf would look like, but the either it is a different shade of red or the red on black just pops differently than the T1 on white. It really stands out and looks beautiful. Hate: 1) the stickers. I don't necessarily hate placing stickers on Lego, but these are particular cumbersome because they are so tiny and my fingers completey covered them so I had trouble making sure it was lined up properly. I had to carefully re-lift and place far too many times. These are high-stakes too. If you want straight pinstripes or logos, you better have a steady hand. 2) fragile- I found a way to break it several times during build and my kid and I both found a way to break it after build. It is most definitely a display piece only. 3) lacking "fun" details. The T1 and especially the Mini Cooper raised the bar in regards to the extra factors such as a picnic basket, spare tire, or fan belt on engine kinda stuff. F40 has a sweet engine, but it becomes locked in with the bumper. It can be removed but should not be so tedious to do so. Also the trunk contains a container and some white case or something. Kind of blah. Also the stick to hold up the back car hood would be better attached with a ball joint or something. Overall the end result is a really cool display piece. Looks better in person than on the website and box. A great addition to the cars series, as long as you don't fiddle with it too much! I definitely recommend for build and display, but on the fence for investment some day down the road.7 points

Son and I spent 4 days building the Pet Shop. I never really understood the modular craze, until now. When I saw the pics that were uploaded for the brick bank, I thought it was time to at least get a pet shop before it went. So we bought it this month to have at least one in the collection. This was perhaps the most fun building experience of the many sets that we have done. The details in this set are just awesome, and this blows away all the architecture sets by a mile. I guess, we'll be ordering the other 4.. Don't think i'll be going back on the retired versions of this line, but the fire brigade sort of looks fun.5 points

Companies that are as successful as TLG tend to make money, not statements. PS may go or it may stay (I think it is going), but it won't be because TLG wanted to make a statement to one of the smallest slices of its consumer base (i.e., resellers).4 points

It is a give and take I am doing great on JW sets. they will be gold this Christmas in my opinion whether there is some channel supply or not. I do know many people say factor in labor. However if this is your hobby, I guess instead of working on this you could instead sit on a couch and stare at a wall and charge $0 per hour and be bored. Labor is a factor but only if this is in my opinion not your hobby and you could replace all of the time you spend on it with something at a better hourly rate. In the world today there are a great many people who would not be able to find work to replace it at a more profitable rate while also being a hobby... not directed at you but something that has been on my mind when multiple people have said on BP to factor your labor costs in ... yes factor them in but also factor them against multiple variables3 points

This is a great article and video posted on the home page here at BP (from the Brick Blogger): http://thebrickblogger.com/2015/10/lego-africa-first-time-playing-with-lego/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+thebrickblogger+(TheBrickBlogger) My five year-old son and I are going to send a box to this program. He is so "over-privileged" when it comes to the amount of Lego toys in our home. Watching this video makes him understand how lucky he is and it's amazing to me how much he wants to share and help kids who don't have Legos. I hope some of you will donate as well. This is guaranteed to give you lots of good karma for the upcoming holiday season. Tower of Orthanc will pop back into stock at the moment you're sitting at your computer, Death Star will retire three weeks before TFA opens, and Palace Cinema will leapfrog the Pet Shop and retire the day after Thanksgiving... All because you donated an old box of Legos to children who will love them. Now who's the winner?2 points

I agree with everything being said that also being said the demand for JW will far exceed any demand the Tumbler had in my opinion who knows if I am right but I think JW will be just fine for the Christmas flip2 points

Ok here is an update. Things have changed on how we get our data and the format that it is in. It seems that everyone in all the major companies are really either closing doors on data that is given out, or clamping down on how people share info. I have a bunch of code that I need to update in order to work with the new data. I need a few more days to work this out and make sure it's right. The good news is that, based on what I see, I hope that as everything moves forward, it will not need to be monthly updates. It could possibly make it's way to weekly updates, we will have to see. So if anyone asks where is the update, just point them to this post. I will try to get it out there as soon as I can.2 points

Is this a good news or bad news: IR is available on LEGO Shop at Home right now on Canada side. 1 set per order.1 point

I have a 10225 UCS R2 for $415 CAD ($440 shipped). There have been a few in the high 4's and a couple at $507 CAD (not including shipping). Sadly expedited shipping to the US is $45, but I think it is a pretty decent price for Canada. I put a Cargo Terminal and Vampyre Castle up each at $160 CAD, which I think is also a nice discount from recent NISB sold listings.1 point

So, while preparing a shipping label below the "ship to" & above the buyers address reads: "Invalid address. Click "Change" to revise it." So, I send the buyer a message & I copy the address & include it with a message asking that they confirm the address. To my surprise the response is "It should be correct." Well, at least that we both agree on...1 point

I am astounded how substantial this freebie is. I can't imagine this doesn't get $25-30 for the rest of the year and $40-50 next year. combining that with the 10%ish double VIP discount, potentially a 40-50% discount depending on your hold period if you factor things this way.1 point

PS is not and will be getting a new box. I just received a fresh one from SAH last week with brand new seal code and brand old box.1 point

That's an instant $20 return on a $70 set without lifting a finger, I wouldn't be complaining with that! :-) Wait until early December to see what these are selling for....1 point

I found and added two more month building themes to the list of Droneuary and MaKtober(fest). Droneuary doesn't seem like much of a consistently annual event reading through the Flickr group's discussions however the premise seems intriguingly simple enough. Basically the build is a minifigure scale robotic drone of any size that can range from a tiny mech to a large tank it seems. Only limitations are it cannot be 'ridden' (no cockpit) or controlled by any human pilot like a hardsuit or battle mech. Stuff from Mobile Frame Zero sound like they can fit here far as the build itself is concerned. Now on Ma.Ktoberfest, I wish there was a simple way of explaining how that works. I understand the core concept on making a build in the style of the universe set forth by the artist Kow Yokoyama called "Maschinen Krieger" which featured lots of war machines kit-bashed from numerous models. It's the consistency as to what defines a build as proper MaKtober material that I find confusing. Well at least there is the For Dummies discussion to hopefully help clear things up and of course Google. Anyway still six months of building I can't account for. I swore there was something in April or June but don't recall.1 point

Lol, let me clear the air here. First off I didn't say anything about food, that was someone else. I was referring to keeping track of your mileage so if/when you submit your earnings from this hobby with your taxes, you would get some money back. If I recall correctly, you were putting on some pretty good mileage making the rounds picking up lego. I didn't mean keeping track of everything and that snickers bar but it definitely got blown up like that.1 point

Yea I remember getting in argument with popular fellow on here about factoring labor and driving and what I had for lunch while driving. It's my hobby that is fun and I get paid so I don't factor that in yet.1 point

December 19th when mom and dad are frantic because no online retailer has any and there's not even a place for them on the shelves of TRU, WM, Target, B&N, or the Lego store, every one of those fees will be $0 as CL is free. I consider selling Legos very little labor.1 point

The most entertaining 10 minutes of my day were spent going into my gmail trash and searching for "Jurassic fossilrock". Some absolute comedy gold in there, my personal favorite where he called the non-believers in his cult of early retirement a bunch of "Christian Scientists". mscheaf has some new competition.1 point

I'd be stoked if Ecto-1 retires soon. Currently have 85 of these and irrespective of whatever comes from a Ghostbusters HQ set 21108 should be a fine earner.1 point

Instead of posting this in MOC highlights I feel like it's more appropriate to post it here ;-) Some of these might not be "architecture" (at least one ;-) ) but I'll post it here anyhow as it belongs to my series ^.^ This time the topic is asian architecture. I've found so many great MOCs that I cannot possibly post them all but I'll try to share some of the bests with you. Let's start with the simpler but still beautiful ones and work our way up. 1. https://www.flickr.com/photos/113119815@N06/15034180599/in/dateposted/ A very nice wooden gate by Kanji-Kanji-hiroshi (I cannot read the Kanji but the hiragana mean hiroshi ;-) ... so some japanese guy anyhow ) And an awesome cherry blossom tree! 2. Secondly we have a interior scene by "konze" https://www.flickr.com/photos/k0nze/7285602026 I like the simplicity of it. 3. Next we'll have a nice interior scene in some japanese teahouse by "gabriel" https://www.flickr.com/photos/55631421@N03/page1 I really like the detailed and yet simple interior even though I feel that the floor of "konze"'s moc (number 2) is more realistic. The exterior sure is an eyecatcher with the small cherry tree and the stonefloor. Also the bricktecture of the roof is great. 4. Last but certainly not least! I hope I can upload all of these picture ;-) These are just some builds of Hung Andy https://www.flickr.com/photos/andybear0426/ who has built many great stunning MOCs. You should check out his flickr account! Here are some details of the temple... These are pieces of paper, small fortune telling papers normally. Ringing the bell :-) And I guess these are supposed to be small wooden plates (also fortune stuff) Check out this awesome CRAB! restaurant. There's also a great interior. I guess these are dumplings... anyhow very nice detailed building and interior! Hope you enjoyed this asian architecture post :-)1 point

Just saw these show up at my Walmart... a display peg rack full... maybe 80 or 90 packs. So right away I got to smooshin'... after about 20 or 30 I hadn't found anything interesting, and I realized that these packs had been thoroughly molested already... I suddenly felt so dirty... I had to stop, and go wash my hands.1 point

Spider-man does go great with the modulars. Even my wife has taken to him swinging around the different buildings in our modular city. I've been meaning to add that particular Doc Ock as a counterpart and Alpine makes a great point; I'm going to be getting one of these before double VIP ends. : ) BB really makes one appreciate PR though. Recent ones have taken interiors to the next level but exteriors aren't as legen-wait-a-year-for-the-next-modular-dary anymore. PR was easily the best combination of exterior and interior.1 point

Majority of those pieces and that minifigure are from the Insectoids line specifically the 6903 Bug Blaster.1 point

This is just one way to do it. I am sure others have even better systems. Mine is pretty simple and good enough for me: Step 1: start somewhere. I have my best rewards credit card (for me that is Chase Sapphire, but I'm sure a lot of people use Toys R Us Rewards mastercard, Target Red Card, etc) linked to my Raise account. Step 2: Buy discounted gift cards with Raise (I like their app). I buy Target at 10% or above, TRU/BRU at 12% or above, Lego at 5% or above, eBay at 5% or above, and some others. Step 3: Wait for a deal to convert what you purchase on Raise to something even better. For example, what MarxMarvelous did was go on eBay and buy a TRU gift card on eBay for less than face value (this is always a good move, depending on the discount). He used his eBay gift card (acquired previously elsewhere at a discount) to pay for his eBay purchase (the TRU gift card he won at auction). In addition, with the 5x eBay bucks promo (ending in 13 hours) he got another 10% off the price of his TRU gift card in the form of eBay bucks he can used next month. Then he is going to use the TRUTH coupons (look in the TRUTH tactics thread for barcodes) and walk into a TRU on a Thursday (Saturday starting soon) and buy something for a massive aggregate discount after factoring in all of the above. Let's say he got his eBay gift card (to start with) at 18% off. Then another 10% difference between the face value of the TRU card he bought on eBay and the price he won it for at auction. Then another 10% in eBay bucks. Then he is going to use a 20% off one item coupon (see TRUTH tactics thread) at the checkout aisle at TRU, then he is going to get 10% more off if he has a TRU Rewards mastercard and can convince the cashier to let him do a partial pay wherein he puts a little bit on the mastercard and pays for the majority of the purchase with the TRU gift card he won from eBay. AND, what's more he will earn TRU rewards points at 4% for amount not put on TRU mastercard and 8% for amount put on mastercard. When he is done, the price of that $150 Millennium Falcon just got slashed to a total acquisition cost of about $80, give or take. Another thing that you can do is convert one gift card to another. For example, you can commonly buy Target gift cards on Raise for 6% off or better. eBay gift cards run, on average, only 2-3% discount. So I buy a Target gift card and then go to Target.com and use my Target gift card to purchase eBay gift cards, effectively giving me a much better acquisition cost for my eBay gift cards. Which I will then use during an extra eBay bucks promo to buy a discounted Toys R Us (or similar) gift card on the eBay site from some nice lady in Boca Raton. This is a dizzying process, but if you like math, it can get to be a lot of fun.1 point
