I have been screwing around with him all morning. Making him explain over and over again how to scratch off the silver stuff on the back of the gift cards and if he would accept Applebees gift cards instead.7 points

Despite having purchased way too many of these over the past weeks, today is the first time I opened a set and got to see them in person. I found some surprises. My favorites: 1 - Tiger Woman - just so sassy 2 - Wacky Witch - she wins for best accessories: broom, cat, hat and skirt... and just for being a classic Halloween staple character 3 - Spectre is cool for his tattered clothes, and glow-in-the-dark head 4 - Fly Guy is cooler than I had thought... his head / eyes are red/transparent... striking in bright light. 5 - Banshee is alright... most interesting is her translucent hair... other than that, I'm not too crazy about her 6 - Frankenrocker surprised me... I think he looks better than the Frankenstein that comes with 10228... better, brighter colors; more interesting clothes. 7 - I would think Plant Guy would be popular in the same way that Piggy Guy, Unicorn Girl, Hot Dog Guy are popular... his unique "costume". But it's really all about the head piece... the rest of him is just "meh"... also, the colors just don't "do it" for me. 8 - Spider Lady is unique... in a pinch, she could substitute for the Vampiress in 10228, but the 10228 character has much better "Morticia Addams-style" hair. I don't like Spider Lady's 'doo. ... if I were a casual minifig collector (and I'm not)... the kind of collector that didn't have to have every single one,... then I just might like to buy these first eight, for their uniqueness. 9 - Cheerleader - not that great for me... I don't like her dull hair color... but I imagine she could be of special interest in schools like MSU (green & white). ... and all the rest are just so-so for me for one reason or another. Just my $.02.3 points

When I was writing our book, it forced me to look at ALL of the themes. The sets discussed on this site are obvious choices and low hanging fruit, but there are dozens of high quality, under the radar themes and sets that will be solid to strong collectibles in the future...and will not be remade.3 points

True, but on the same token, you can also say it's all about your profit margin/remaining stock after you flipped a bunch. Currently, i'm sitting on a bunch of free complete sets thanks to all those "i got to have it right now" collectors. So, if I wanted to I could give these out as halloween candy, and just walk away…... At the current prices, the buy in after fees/shipping costs would have to be almost half of retail to consider it a flip worth doing. I'm cautiously optimistic prices will go back up, but not this year.2 points

Been moving the $1.49 SW magnets (blow out from LEGO Shop at Home ) in sets of 7 at close to $5/ea. I pad my shipping, so I will be close to 300% after fees. I bought over 100, I wish I had 300 more.2 points

Yeah, Slimer became a permanent 'house guest' of the Ghostbusters in the cartoon and he could talk somewhat. Oh yeah, and slimed Peter a lot. Ha. Stay Puft showed up six times I think between the Sandman episode (as part of a kid's dream), when Spengler's uncle let him loose from the containment unit after ranting how the whole ghost thing was "ridiculous nonsense", at the end of the story when the Ghostbusters temporarily were "Crimebusters" he walks into view then winks at the audience, when a paranormal convention came to town and he was going to be the guest of honor, then my favorite when "The Big Guy" fights Murray the Mantis, and finally for a Stay Puft Marshmallows commercial they let him out to film it which inadvertently let a real nasty Phantom they previously captured escape. Okay, so I watched the cartoon with a passion.2 points

In the 10188 thread, Ed Mack said: "...I think it's time for people to look at the hundreds of other potential sets out there as collectibles instead of the same few dozen. LEGO can't keep them all in production." I don't know if he was talking about sets like 70723 Thunder Raider... but I am... What is up with this set? I picked up about 5 at the end of 2014 for about $20 ea. Sold them all before June at ~$40 each (shipped). I figured it would take a while to see bigger appreciation on this set... may as well flip 'em quick and invest in something better. Now I see them going for >$45 on ebay (shipped) and $57 Amzn Prime... what the what? You mean if I had held onto those for just a few more months, I'd be looking at 115% profit in 10 months (w/ FBA)? But I'm not here to reminisce and moan... I want know what is it about these sets that make them so special? I recall lots of BP'ers moaning about "stupid Ninjago"... the worst thing in their portfolio... especially this particular series ... the "Nindroid" era... everybody hated it. Now... just about anything that is not on the store shelves anymore is going up... just looking at Amazon prices: 70500 Kai's Fire Mech $21.99 70721 Kai's Fighter $31.95 70727 X-1 Charger $43.95 70722 Overborg Attack $34.73 70720 Hover Hunter $12.98 (... how much were these on clearance at LEGO Shop at Home? I passed.) The bigger sets from this series are also moving up... just not as fast... Is it time to buy those dented up 70728 Battle for Ninjago City I still see on the shelves ... even at $82+ tax on Thursday?2 points

As with all JW sets, check your seals and weigh/check for suspicious activity. I've run across more than one JW set with the dinosaurs suspiciously absent and replaced with army men. One person went so far as to stuff the box with dollar store toy dinosaurs...I appreciated their effort in maintaining the theme.2 points

went looking at a target for sealed cases today. the clerk didnt find any even though it shows in stockroom. instead he brought me a complete sealed display case of series 7 in a shipper. im thinkin what?!?! took it to service desk to get the price adjusted to 2.99, because im a cheap bastard. instead i got them for $2 each and 5% redcard. moral of the story is check your local stockrooms. you may find gold. barcodes on them still scanned as series 14.2 points

Materials guide for LEGO selling & shipping Many members have asked for a centralized place where they can go for shipping box information. I'm going to pin this post and update it as new information is provided. I just want to take a few minutes and thank those who wrote the following articles. They are still very good reference materials for the LEGO storage and shipping process. I may develop this into a blog article eventually. Fcbarcelona101's : Selling LEGO : Basic Materials Guide Mos Eisley 's : LEGO Storage Wars Incompetech's Catalog of Amazon.com Box Sizes - (thanks No More Monkeys) Amazon Boxes Sorted list by length - courtesy of pstebbing I've scoured the forums and here is a list of box sizes with basic set information: Boxes: 24x20x8 : Super Star Destroyer; Death Star, Roller Coaster, UCS Sandcrawler, Assembly Square 24x20x6 : Thicker sets like Town Hall, Tower Bridge 24x16x6 - 60052 Cargo Train, R2-D2, Maersk Line Triple-E, 7939 Cargo Train 24x16x4 - Helm's Deep, Vampyre Castle, Black Pearl, Friends Riding Camp, Parisian Restaurant, High Speed Passenger Train, Jabba's Palace, Downtown Diner 24x20x4 : Grand Emporium, Pet Shop, Imperial Shuttle, Haunted House, Palace Cinema, Fire Brigade 24x14x4 : Dolphin Cruiser, Coast Guard Patrol 24x4x12 - Dolphin Cruiser, Coast Guard Patrol 20x16x4 - Volkswagen Camper Van, Olivia's House, Sonic Raider, Sopwith, Creator Bike Shop, Batcave, Quinjet, Moria & Ambush 20x16x6 : Thicker sets like the Republic Gunship; City Cargo Plane 20x14x4 : Attack on Weathertop, Hulk 's Helicarrier Breakout, X-Wing 9493, Black Gate 16x16x4 : Gungan Sub, Pre Viszla, Tie Fighter 16x10x4 : Council of Elrond, Desert Skiff, City Grand Prix Truck 16x10x6 : Thicker sets like Creator Family House, Hillside House 15x12x4 : Funhouse, Orc Forge, Tumbler Chase, Daily Bugle Showdown, Hulk Lab Smash 12x12x4 : Uruk Hai Army, City Cargo Truck, Creator Treehouse, City Fire Emergency 11-3/4x8-3/4x4-3/4 : Wolverine Chopper, Arctic Batman, Power Armor Lex, Droid Escape, Cloud Cuckoo Palace 12x8x3 - Battle Packs, CA Avenging Cycle, Catwoman, Gandalf Arrives, Holiday sets 10x8x4 : Battle Packs, CA Avenging Cycle, Catwoman, Gandalf Arrives, Holiday sets Envelopes: 4x8 : Minifigs & small polybags 6x9 : Polybags small & larger 10.5 x 16 : Larger shipments of 3 x polybags or more Packing Tape : buy in bulk or on sale : you can throw some in during a Staples coupon promotion to get up to free shipping Walmart.com Duck Brand Packaging Tape http://www.staples.com/Staples-Standard-Grade-Packaging-Tape-Clear-189-x-110-yds-6-Rolls/product_380107 Retailers: Uline.com : holiday sale starts first part of November (usually 30% off) Staples.com : use coupon promotions - $10 off $30, $20 off $75, free shipping over $60 Walmart.com USPS Priority Mail (free boxes at USPS.com) Michigan Box Company: Flat Boxes 18"-23" L (thanks pstebbing) GBE Packaging (thanks pstebbing) PackingSupplies.com http://www.packaging...ated_boxes.html (thanks pstebbing) Bubble Wrap: 3/16" thick x 350' ft x 12" wide - eBay Sams Club 3/16" - 12"x240' $12.98 (In store) ($.05/LF) (thanks pstebbing) I like to use large and small retailer plastic bags to wrap items in, even after I bubble wrap it. For battle packs and even small sets, I sometimes use Wal-Mart, Target, or plastic bags from any store. Additional packing isn 't really needed. Usually like 2 bags on bottom, one to wrap the item, and two bags on top. Make sure to cover the corners of the item real nice to provide extra padding. I have a chance to buy a used 100% complete set 10197 Fire brigade from local seller. He asked $270 cash. Set is 100% complete and comes with both instruction booklets and original box. Is it a good deal? Should I consider to buy as investment? thanks!1 point

Not me. I can think of some good reasons for this era of cybernetics between nice parts such as the new ninja bandana scarf and different hairstyles for our heroes. For any fan of anime and cartoons, ninjas and cyborgs or robots go hand-in-hand which for me made the disdain confusing considering plus the new body armor, cyber hoodie, and printing all were done well. Regarding the specific season related to this wave, it was short and the sudden advancement of technology unusual but the main plotline was to the point without the sort of unnecessary filler content typically plaguing similar TV shows. Let's not forget how awesome the concept of cyberpunk is as well. Like the sets or not, the Ninjago theme has some pretty darn good characters.1 point

Yes, we need to all start buying/hoarding the short lived themes that no one wanted - that will end well.1 point

There is very little chance that this set would have retired this close to the new movie. A case could have been made earlier in the year when we saw shortages, but at this point... What would be the point of retiring it? The new box will only stimulate sales once again and keep this set quite popular till another large Death Star version takes its place. I think it's time for people to look at the hundreds of other potential sets out there as collectibles instead of the same few dozen. LEGO can't keep them all in production.1 point
-
Past evidence would suggest this to be so. Also, if Lego don´t start retiring stuff soon they are going to spread themselves very then when the Xmas horde awakens.1 point

Considering that it has been available for 17 days- I think that speaks for itself. 300 is a lot unless there are some good sets in there. Hard to tell from the pics though1 point

Big Ben would be a perfect candidate for a new landmark Creator set IMO. Also, as stated above, a very creative LEGO engineer could add a working clock to it, making it a spectacular set. When I think of the U.K., I think of Big Ben. It's as iconic as they come. I would love to see an Empire State Building with an LED lit pinnacle.1 point

Not iconic? Big Ben? It's the most recognized clock towers in the world. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iAgX6qlJEMc1 point

My TRU hasn't received any, or they'll hold them in the back until Easter. The entire staff at my TRU won't go in the back and look for anything. Standard answer, "Everything we have is on the floor." This is from the managers too. Even when I see stuff disappear from the floor, I ask if it's in the back, and then it reappears 3 weeks later. I'm kind of like my 3-year old. Keep asking the same question and hoping for a different answer eventually.1 point

Throw back Thursday! One year ago today I made my smartest move as a brickvestor: First thing in the morning, I bought my first Town Hall on double VIP, just hours before they went out of stock. I love to reminisce when I was right, so just for fun… some other comments from that day…(all comments edited and taken out of context)… Bricketycricket: Backordered at LEGO Shop at Home. You may now commence EOL speculation and unwarranted panic Trekgate502: I think it is heading towards EOL land based on multiple comments BUT that is purely highly unwarranted speculation. Of course where mscheaf and I have the fork discussion going on the haunted house, I won't stick a fork in this one. VBG Mscheaf: Yeah, if I get worried about this set retiring I will just go to the Lego store and pick up a few of the 2 dozen I saw there next to the Town Hall display model. Neosphinx: Still plenty of stock Clxmouth: OOS at TRU. They had em a couple hours ago. …reports of OOS on other sites continued to come in… speculation tilted both ways… more comments seemed to lean towards, “this set isn’t going EOL yet… just the stupid herd creating artificial demand, and ensuring another big production run…” And then on Oct 2… Ed Mack: Very soon, this will be the busiest thread on the site. … then things really started to roll. Ahhh… good times… glad I was here to be a part of it. I was able to pick up several more over the next few weeks. The "dance" that ensued seemed quite orderly and easy to navigate, compared to what's going on these days. Probably never happen again quite that way.1 point

If the box were not beat up I personally would think about buying it. But with an abused box I would rather pay 50 dollars (half retail).1 point

Don't do it. You have to read the books to get the real HP experience. The movies don't come close to doing it justice.1 point
