  1. This is the scene that keeps replaying in my head.

  3. It was a winner. Listen people, many of you are here because you are looking for information about investment, reselling, collecting...not LEGO bricks as a simple toy or fun build. I will tell you that if people go in heavy on this set, there will be ramifications later on. There are dozens of other sets that will be better investments than this one, so put your resources there. If you want one to build and display, buy one...it's a great set.

  6. It's really not that impressive, I can can do that in about 1 second. I just ask it what figure it is and a little voice tells me.

  7. Over the last year and half, I've been BL'ing the original Toy Shop. I just finished up a couple of weeks ago. I am not even buying one of these. I want these to rot. Everyone is entitled to do what they want, but I'm sitting this out because I don't like Lego re-issuing sets (not for investment reasons, and not for play reasons), and I don't want to encourage that by even buying one unit.

  10. I don't understand what the big deal is. Anyone is capable of spending 1 second on any of these. The trick is to just not be concerned with SNAD's...

  11. I went a little crazy over the past couple of hours on AWD. I bought a Tower Bridge, Ewok Village, Slave 1 and Red 5. I already have a copy of each of the 3 Star Wars sets in sealed boxes, so I'll use these for personal builds and won't have to feel guilty for opening them. I never had much interest in Tower Bridge, but knowing myself, the second it is no longer available, I'll decide I want one. It happened with Arkham Asylum and R2 last year, and while I did get both for a smidge over retail, I want to avoid doing that to myself again. I'll be happy when these are delivered Saturday, but not as happy when my Amazon Card bill comes

  12. I don't have the original so I realize I'm in a different group than many around here... but I also think the whole thing was overblown. The Technic Racing Truck 42041 was re-released right down to the same piece count but to much less fanfare. I realize different theme, different season, different target audience but still... it wasn't a widely hoarded or desired set so only a few people complained. How dare LEGO ruin Christmas this year! See above..

  13. Every AFOL down in AFOLoville liked Christmas a lot. But LEGO who lived just North of AFOLoville did not! LEGO hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season! Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason. It could be, perhaps, that their bricks were too white. It could be WALL-E's head wasn't screwed on just right. But I think that the most likely reason of all May have been that the new T1 box was two sizes too small. But, whatever the reason, his boxes or his bricks He stood there on Christmas Eve hating the Nic(o)s, Staring down from his cave with a sour, LEGO frown At the warm lighted windows below in their town, For he knew every AFOL down in AFOLville beneath Was busy now hanging a LEGO brick wreath. "And they're hanging their stockings," he snarled with a sneer. "Tomorrow is Christmas! It's practically here!" Then he growled, with his LEGO minifigures nervously drumming, "I must find some way to keep Christmas from coming!

  18. Anyone who cares about Lego investing beyond the short term should boycott this set, except for one set for building. Investing in this set is short sighted, selfish, and destructive.

  20. I just have to say, I do reuse boxes some, but I do like having certain sizes of boxes, new, folded, in stacks. I hate searching for the right size box, since I usually pack stuff up after the kids go to bed. If I have an inventory of boxes in the right size, I can just grab a set off the shelf and throw it in the perfect size box for it's dimensions, tape, print, label and go, no searching necessary.

  21. I would have taken that bet if indeed you were spending 1-2 seconds on each one, or at most 5. Nothing personal, I just don't believe you because I don't think it's possible. I've smooshed hundreds of minifigs and understand that once you get well practiced you can often find that accessory or other indicator and instantly know what you have. But I also know that these distinguishing characteristics can often be hidden given that 1) they are not always in the same spot in the pack, 2) they can be obscured by getting lumped into other things in the pack, 3) they can get stuck under/between base plates and checklists. One second is a very, very short amount of time. In order to do what you say you are doing you'd have to grab something specific in each pack the first place you grab. Can you do this every 4th or 5th pack? Sure, maybe. Can you do it every time or every other? No way. J'accuse! (and another vote for wanting to see a picture of the custom satchel)

  23. What impresses non-LEGO people most about the T1 and Mini Cooper I have on display is that they don't look like typical LEGO nor do they look like real models (i.e. shiny medal). I don't know how many people have said "that's made out of LEGO?" to me. When you put it next to something that clearly looks like LEGO .. say the Detective's Office modular with it's squareness .. people are amazed. Despite me thinking the F40 design is weak, it accomplishes the same thing. At first glance people can't believe it's LEGO - I've heard at least a dozen people young and old say it at the LEGO store. Once we move our collection to a larger space, I hope to put an F40, DeLorean and Ecto-1 on display too. I believe the Ecto-1 falls into that category and in hindsight so does the DeLorean. That's something I use to determine value as an investment .. anyone can buy regular LEGO bricks and build stuff but does it impress the people holding the money? First impressions.

  26. ditto here on going crazy today. My poison was eBay, with essentially 10% off everything (5x eBay bucks on purchases over $50) plus another 2 to 4% off from Raise. 1) Town Hall for $314 (no box or instructions, missing 2 minifigures, otherwise complete). 2) Arkham Asylum for $179 (open box, mostly sealed bags, compete with instructions) 3) X-wing 9493 for $52 (sealed box) I'm pretty happy about it - TH and AA have been on my want list since I arrived late to the party earlier this year.

  36. Finally, someone speaks up. As the other poster who responded after you, 1 second is normal for many. 5 seconds is just worse case scenario. I am 100% certain many from BP can do a quick grab and know exactly what the minifigure is. They just don't speak up. You can tell just by the sheer number of minifigures flippers on ebay who sell the package unopened. You, just like many, is a seasoned professional. I was throwing some packs into my sorted bin in less than 2 seconds and the TRU staff said this is not possible to know what is in the pack. I told him if he is willing to put $100 on the line, grab one out, slit it open, and if my sorting bin is correct with the correct figures, I win $100. At the time, I already had 200 packs in the bin and I dared him to open all of them and find one mistake.

  40. Sorry, I've read this thread from time to time and have to chime in. If Sandcrawler is a good seller, then why do you think it's doing the dance and keep saying so? Why would Lego retire a good seller in <2 years? That is also European data you're referring to and not US sales, and you're basing your dance predictions on data not particularly relevant to the US/Canada market for shop at home. These predictions really need to be put in the Retiring Soon thread and not this one, because I thought the point of the thread was to note OOS/in stock events, not to create predictions. If you're putting basic facts for OOS/in stock events in this thread, you likely have no chance of being "modded." Grynn couldn't have said it any better in terms of sets being briefly OOS. Last summer, the Death Star and T1 Volkswagen were OOS, ships in 30 days and people thought they were retiring. The sets were also OOS at major retailers and secondary prices for Death Star and the VW rose. It just turns out Lego cannot keep everything in stock at all times and they do go OOS at other retailers. It seems summer is not a particularly productive production time for Lego for some of their sets. Hence. I don't think Sandcrawler is doing the "dance." Maybe next spring, but not yet.

  41. The day has come, I sold my $400 ucs millennium falcon (10179) locally for $1,900. I made $1,500 on it, got a free ucs 1980's batmobile, and about 40 Star Wars minifigures. Part of me is sad to see it go but it went to some really nice people and it was worth it plus we all know Lego will remake it eventually so it was the right thing to do
