  1. Built this today. By far the most challenging set I have ever built. Many times I worried I made a mistake, particularly the rubber hoses every where! Massive impressive set though!

  3. With moving and a being in the busiest part of a seasonal occupation I haven't been able to build much lately, so with a couple hours of down time I figured I better pick a good set, I think I chose quite well.

  5. This goes beyond the investors - I am also concerned about my customers being left to feel like stupid idiots who just got screwed (seemingly by me). Yes, we make money, and yes, the prices can get ridiculous - but at least (until now) we could honestly state to a buyer of high prices sets, that even though they are expensive, if the set continues to be taken care of (and loved), the price will likely continue to increase. Once the high priced collectors start associating their purchases with the negative feeling of getting screwed - many will likely stop.

  6. Orc Forge is starting to get some love on Amazon, sold one so far for $95. Sold 2 more 75021 - Republic Gunships on EBay for $190 to a repeat buyer in my shipping zone. It only cost me $10 to ship them insured.

  10. I wouldn't use the BrickPicker prices to set prices on EBay or any other marketplace. It's a good gauge for value of a BrickFolio as of the previous reporting period, but it's not an accurate reflection of the current market. Use the "recently sold" filter on EBay and also browse Amazon, Bricklink, etc. to get a read on what prices other sellers have their items listed at.

  24. Some people think the Volvo loader will retire early but Technic sets are almost always out for two years (plus or minus last stock). Based on that, MKII should go this year (anytime) and the loader next summer... MKII may very well break that trend but the loader is licensed so Lego will be constrained by the license!

  26. Maybe some people bitch and moan no matter what. Lego doesn't give two bits if a few buyers are pissed about the reissue. Not a single one of them won't keep buying Lego to resell or collect because of 10249. You can bet they're looking at how many 10199 sets were produced and sold vs winter cottages and WVM and SW. It has to be about the money.

  27. The new Arocs Technic truck (42043) should excite a lot of people. With the new pneumatic II pieces that are out, the set will one day bring in a nice price on the secondary market. However, I love it for other reasons. Just finished building it....and it was a blast. Also, I remember years ago when the Mercedes Benz Unimog came out and Artifex Creations put out a lighting kit specifically designed for the truck which was pretty cool. Their site is down for maintenance, and I am not sure if they are in the Lego lighting business anymore, but I thought of doing the same thing with the Arocs. I used the products are lifelights.com. Pretty happy with the results. A brief tutorial and more pictures can be found at: http://mocpages.com/moc.php/418368

  32. There was tons of anger a few days back when folks first saw the new set. Some of the ambivalence you're encountering is just because folks have already reached that stage of grieving. 1) Denial - We saw the title of the set back in January. Nah, they won't do a straight re-hash. They'd never do that. 2) Anger - We saw the product. Lego Nerds gone wild. WTF?!?!?!? Are they serious???? HOW can they do this to MEEE???? 3) Bargaining - We sold all our sets at 50% discounts from their 'collectible value' in a race to the bottom 4) Depression - I better sell my whole portfolio. This investing thing is over. 5) Acceptance - Hey you know what? If the US stock market can drop 1000 points in 10 minutes,,,,,i'm probably still fine with my lego-vestments.They won't do this with ALL my sets............right? 6) Rinse & Repeat - If they do this again just revisit step 1.

  34. we have a retiring soon speculation thread, the actual retiring thread, but there is no "why won't this set die!!!" thread I have 4 girls, so started early foolish time investing with the Friends line. can I include the entire friends line as well as the princess stuff ( see DC and Cindy castle)? I still see series 3 mixels and series 12 minifigures everywhere the minecraft microworlds I thought would die last xmas, but the forest and end keep their never ending supply going. besides the usual suspects (TB and DS) what haunts you?

  36. Galeria kaufhof Germany, bougt them online, but there is still stock in the stores. Going next thursday to the physical store, to buy 5 more. They retail for 200 in Germany, but I got a 10% discount.. Can pick them up for 180. Thank you Germany.. Always better than those stupid Dutch prices (230 euro). Same thing with temple of airjitzu.. 200 in Germany, 230 in Holland. Update: it's back to 'out of stock' from 'sold out' in US

  39. My shelving units tell me that T1 in #1 on the list, with Tower Bridge right behind. Until yesterday I would have said WV Market. Death Star being the oldest living set will make it an obvious, popular choice, but since I only have a couple and will stay that way I quit worrying about what that set was doing some time ago. 10240 is another that I personally would like to see die, but it's really not THAT old yet compared to sets like Pet Shop, T1 and Tower Bridge.

  44. On the topic of buying HH even now at 2x or more MSRP: Phase 1: My son got interested in Lego 7 months ago. I hadn't so much as looked at a Lego in 20 years. All I knew was he desperately wanted new Lego passenger train. We bought and built it together, along with station. Phase 2: I thought "wow this is so cool! These sets are WAY better than they were in my day!" Phase 3: I go online and start looking at what else Lego makes. I stumble onto Haunted House on Lego SAH (it was still up with a SO tag). Jaw drops. Heart rate increases. Phase 4 (also known as the self-denial phase): I do my research, see it is seeing on eBay for almost $400, and show my wife the set, but promise I would never spend $400 on a Lego set (because THAT would be crazy). Phase 5 (also known as "emersion from dark ages" syndrome. Also known as the angry wife phase): I buy a brand new HH for $350 shipped. It arrives in beautiful shape. Wife finds out. (Domestic episode deleted from post). The point of this whole diatribe was that the HH was the one and only retired set I just could never live without. I can pass on all the old Star Wars stuff, pirate ships, TH, FB, whatever. But this was a "biological imperative" - there was no way my heart/head combo was ever going to let me live a life that didn't contain the Lego 10228. I would have paid $500. Today I would pay $600 if I had to (and didn't own it). There is something magical about this set and I feel very strongly that there are THOUSANDS of people out about to have their ownHH moment in the next several years. This set will hit $500 two months, eclipse the Town Hall by October 2016, and leave TH in the dust in 2017. Just watch and mark my words. (Phase 6: new guy thinks he's smart enough to lay down epic predictions at 4:00am cuz he can't sleep)

  45. Maybe a lot of people missed out on this set and focus groups told Lego the set they want most as an end user is a Toy Shop. Maybe Lego is a multi billion dollar company and they are focused on profits and pleasing the masses not the investors. Maybe Lego did this without the reseller in mind at all. Maybe we are but a nat on their wind shield. Maybe Lego resellers think too much of themselves and their place in the Lego universe. Maybe if I saw what happened to Santa's workshop and the absolute success it was and if we worked at Lego coupled with focus groups and surveys we would think re releasing the toy shop would be a profit home run. Maybe not long ago some people questioned if the Santa Workshop was the end of the Winter Village line or maybe as some said it was not even part of the winter village line Maybe in some resellers minds it is ok to end the series but not ok to re release a set with mass appeal for children and families everywhere Maybe just maybe it is not about us. For me it reinforces that the decisions Lego makes are about them and their customer not about us. I love the new set Bring it on to flip, to hold, to invest, and most especially to have fun building
