  1. I had someone ask me for some pictures of my 10179 wall mounted and directed him to this thread, but he told me the pictures were broken/not found.. and so they are! Maybe the forum move broke/lost them or wherever i hosted them from (can't remember) had a problem. I've taken a couple new photos as i can't find the old ones. I have not touched the thing in almost a year now. It shows no signs of warping or anything. Still the best display piece i have imo. everyone we have over loves it. I can't edit my OP to re-include them; so i'll just add them here. If a mod wants to/can move them to the OP that would be great (not sure that's possible).

  4. My son (he's 7) noticed me packing up some Jurassic World sets yesterday. "Don't sell these daddy, we need to build them." I do have all the sets put aside for him, but he doesn't need to know that. I keep telling him he has to sit through the original "Jurassic Park" before we build any JW sets. He had me turn it off during our last attempt.

  9. Sales and prices on Bricklink are strong which I find very interesting. Maybe this is a sign of collectors/builders finally scrambling to acquire this set before the price skyrockets and the supply just isn't there to keep the price down? Appreciation doesn't usually take off this quickly on Bricklink. It's usually Amazon first, eBay a few weeks or months later, and then Bricklink a few months after that (depending on the set, of course). This set is exhibiting unusual behavior compared to other sets that are on the brink of retirement (R5 and PS, for example). I also don't recall other sets doing this last year (SSD, R2 and HH were more of a gradual climb...TH too). Lowest in the US is $550 (New). That's a 38% increase from MSRP. Something to keep an eye on.

  11. These look awesome. I've never bought sealed cases of CMF's before, but I think I will with this series. Also, the thing I like most from looking at the pictures is that each one seems to have a very distinguishable part, which should make smooshing a breeze. One more thought...not that the HH needs a bonus to increase its value or appeal to a potential buyer, but what do you think about including a full set of these figures with a HH. List as an auction at just a little above the market rate for the HH and watch the bids fly!

  14. The six stages of DS investing... Complacency - I could be slowing building my inventory of 10188s but they take up a lot of space and I don't have the money to tie up. Panic - Oh crap 10188 is showing sold out! Lube up the CC, Ima' get 'em while they're hot! Denial - Listen, it's not coming back, 'Sold Out' is just a place holder until they mark it retired. It's like the exact same thing with different letters. Anger - WTF do they mean they're making more?? It's retired! I'm taking this s**t back! Depression - Lego investing really sucks, there's no big money anymore and what little I can make is gonna disappear when this bubble pops. Acceptance - I'm actually happy I got these 10188s. I can make some space at the bottom of my bed and just skip lunch for the next few months.

  22. Hey Guys! So a couple months ago i started the long painful process of brickbuilding the 10179. I had many of the parts already from having a very large collection of light gray pieces, and i had been starting to really see the imperfections and scale issues with my 7965 Falcon on display (granted it's not a display model by any means, but it was better than spending thousands for the 10179). 7965 was also the set that brought me out of the dark ages. After trying for month to get a used one on CL or Kijiji, i caved and decided to start. Once finished i realized it was much larger than i thought, and had trouble finding a spot to display it. When i finally did find a spot to display it flat; it really didn't seem to do it justice and i began researching other ways to go about displaying it. Typically i'd use 2x4 clear bricks to prop ships up into more interesting angles, but 10179 would just be too heavy for that. Sure enough there were a couple search results of people mounting it on the wall, and one specifically on YouTube that had it mounted in a way that gave it mobility by using a TV wall mount. I decided this is what i was going to go for vs. a static mount as it allowed it to move into many angles, and the user had a YouTube video with great images of what i'd have to do. This took a good few weeks to complete as there were countless issues that arose. The YouTube video does not give exact details, and finding similar/like parts he used wasn't possible. In the end my mount construction resembles his, but is certainly a bit different. While the 10179 has a very strong inner frame; there are many parts i had to reinforce with more technic liftarms and even rubber bands (i'm looking at you rear underside section). I do believe i was able to find close to the exact same mount he used, but my brackets and the LEGO part of it have been constructed differently. I also added an RGB strip to the back engines to add some flare And no it has not fallen yet haha, but i do check it every so often to see if anything is bending/giving. The first night of it being up i was dreaded of being woken up by a terrifying crash I intend to paint the LED power cord the same colour as the wall to hide it. Anyways i thought some of you might be interested in seeing it. I think this really does the model justice (or at least saves some space!). ** Edit: forum upgrade seems to have lost the pictures... go to this post for new ones. **

  30. Just make sure you look on the receipt for the 10% off notation and adjusted price. If it's not there, have them do a price adjustment or refund you the difference. Check your receipt before leaving the store.

  31. Update: The vintage lot came in. Weighed 20lb 12.4 oz. I emailed the seller and presented my argument. I initially asked for $69 off the lot price. He came back to saying he weighed the lot on his bathroom scale. We agreed to split the diff of his first offer of $50 and my request of 69. I ended up with $59 off, so the lot only cost me $191. As for the lot all vintage, looks like a near complete 6080, 6085, 6074, 6274, blacktron 6954, possible police station of the same era, space shuttle and more I havehave yet to identify. Some classic space is also in there. Aside from the general dust and dirtiness, I am very pleased. Based on the photos it was great guess on the content of the lot After cleaning and pulling sets ugh, I hope to clear 4-6 times my money. Not accounting for the hours and hours of work ahead.

  32. Today´s stock data shows that most of the items put to sold out have now recovered their former stock levels (revised down after a week´s orders). These items should all receive fresh stock at the beginning of August. Conclusion, it was indeed a computer glitch.

  33. The king is dead...long live the king. All joking aside, I'm not a big seller on eBay but it's not hard to make money selling Lego there. The sales volume is fine - it just takes a little while for prices to catch up to Amazon. There's plenty of opportunity for retired set sellers and QFLL's alike.

  36. Availability... We had a very limited run in regards to the theme. It was mostly looked over by the investors initially (myself included), once the phenomenon caught on the sets were extremely hard to obtain. In the last 4 weeks all I have seen at retail are 2x 75915 (which I grabbed immediately). As Jeff alluded to, we don't have free access to a B&M LEGO store, and LEGO Shop at Home is not widely known in the greater populace, hence why we are able to get away charging a very profitable margin.

  38. Seeing the care they take not to disclose retirement dates for the sets I don't believe they are clueless. I believe is the latter. Nowhere have TLG mentioned in legally binding terms that 'sold out' means 'retired'. That is only our interpretation of the status. It is not uncommon for organisations to use such market trends that have evolved over time to their benefit. Specially in times of financial trouble such as the one the Euro is having of late.

  40. Me: Hello, I would like to return these four lego sets of the Death Star please. TRU: Sure, no problem. May I ask why? Me: They went out of stock on Lego.com and everyone at brickpicker thought it was retiring. TRU: Um....... Me: I thought the death star was dead but you guys restocked online with 22 more copies. TRU: Ummmm....... Me: Here is my credit card. Hopefully it doesn't happen again next month. TLG: LMFAO

  42. I'm still quite sceptical of anything retiring before double VIP / October this year. Looking back at last year the first sold out (retirement) was Haunted House which was late October. I think ToO has a chance to go before then, but I think I'll just wait to October and then go crazy buying stuff then, and hope not to get banned!

  43. This is actually about a week or maybe two old now, so not 'built today' but built recently! I'd mentioned plans of doing this in a few other threads during the spring. Finally finished my first iteration. This is my modular Bike Shop & Cafe, comprised of 3 copies of the 31026, plus a tiny handful of extra bricks from my own collection. I googled other people's variations on this set, and I think mine came out quite unique; I was going for the older building look that fits the early 1900s (and other modulars) for the shops on the ground floor, but wanted to do a 'new reno' flat on the upper floor. I managed to keep a handful of the original set's features present on the ground floor, but went full custom on the next floor. The modernized hipster flat is complete with an eco-friendly green-roof, providing fresh produce for the chef next door at Chez Albert. One may also note the owner of the flat has purchased some of the abstract art from the painter that lives next door too... [did I go too far? lol] My images are too large to fit in one post... Edit: and now I can't upload any more? Guess this is all you get. I have a whole wack of shots of the inside, everything is fully furnished. Aw well.

  45. So i finally finished my 10030, but ended up not making it %100 authentic. Some of the original light gray pieces and rare pieces not included in the bulk buy were just getting so expensive and i wasn't sure i wanted to throw too much money at this given it was looking like it would take a lot of work to wall mount. After many weeks of tinkering and testing i have determined it just won't really work or look good mounted vertically. The inner frame is not nearly as strong as the 10179, and most of it's construction will be difficult to assure it can withstand a vertical position. Many more technic beams and liftarms will be needed, and new construction to keep the large side panels on (the magnets are pretty poor). Added to that is the fact that the ship doesn't look all that great mounted vertically like the 10179. So i just finished the build with some substitute parts (mostly on the inside). I'm really not sure if i want to keep it at this point. It takes up sooo much room. I've had it listed on kijiji for an inflated amount, but got no interest. Obviously the fact that it's not %100 authentic will do that, but i figured i'd get low-ballers! I might put it up for trade here and see if someone wants to finish where i started, or keep it for themselves! However shipping this beast from Canada to elsewhere will cost an arm and a leg. Nonetheless the build was fun and i don't regret attempting it as this really is a beautiful set. It's just a shame it takes up so much space while on display (i wasn't entirely surprised by this though). Anyways here are a few pics: 10179 still going strong no structural bending/warping, and no terrifying sounds of Lego crashing in the night haha.
