  2. Walked into the lego store today...."do you have any palace cinemas in stock?" Employee.."oh no. Sorry, palace cinema is retired." Me..."oh really, cause i called yesterday and someone told me you will be getting some in." long story short. I asked him to check in the back low and behold guess what he walks out with. So yeah lego store employees really know very little about what is "retired" and what is not lol

  7. Just finished the Kwik-E-Mart last weekend. Here it is next to my Simpsons house: Great, fun build. Apart from the stickers. Might get round to writing up a decent build review at some stage as I took heaps of pics along the way.

  15. But the video isn't clear about which figures fit height wise in the pods themselves. Here's a view of the inside of the pod.. the floor is all at the same level. Here are all of the minifigs... note the height (i.e. which have tall legs which have short). Now the full pods.. You can't see, but I believe the figs with full size legs must be sitting otherwise how would they fit? So what it means is that three short-legged figs would fit or 2 full-size (on the sides sitting) + 1 short in the door area.

  16. Really well priced, I`d have expected it to be even higher. $200USD and $230CDN is excellent for 2400+ pieces. Not to go off topic, but look at the Tie Fighter with less that 1700 pieces for the same price. Just serves as a reminder that licensing carries with it both higher costs and in turn higher prices. Anyway, they`re both excellent.

  18. Soft "natural hair" makeup brush is definitely the way to go for your most common dust (wide span for large areas & chisel/pencil tip for more detailed parts) However if your dust is more greasy/oily from being closer to the kitchen areas of the house (or where hairspray is being used, dog hair is airborne or, gasp!, smokers are in the house) you'll need to use a synthetic brush as that type of dust won't be picked up by natural hair as efficiently. Natural animal hair bristles can also be statically charged & make dust collection very easy. (you used to be able to do this just keeping them on top of the TV, not so much any more since the FPs arrived)

  20. Did someone mention that the pods on the ferris wheel look odd? see link to picture - there seem to be a few ferris wheels in the real world moddelled like the lego version. http://www.westcoastamusements.com/ferris-wheel/ anyhow, just thought I'd let you guys know

  27. I would recommend getting all the pieces to complete the set. It would be a really hard sell trying to sell the top half of the fire brigade.

  28. Word ive gotten 8 BTTF in the last two weeks at 49 thanks to BP alerts they would make $5 each minimum now if I sold them immediately which I won't but paying above MSRP on them is a no brainer to me.

  29. Meant respectfully you will make more friends if you do not post every time someone has a deal what the lifetime low for the item was implying it is not a good deal, nor make authoritative statements like you did. someone already stated this and I think you continue. how do you know LEGO Shop at Home will not have it last? I don't think that statement is accurate or known. unless your just trolling the site for fun.

  31. How about: Everyone is right or everyone is wrong but EVERYONE can enjoy what looks like a beautiful display piece instead of debating whether this will make you 2.5x or 3x your investment. It looks like a winner and we can all profit from it in the future and that's what matters.

  32. We're not predicting blind with Ferris Wheel post EOL. We have recent data on large exclusives that are well hoarded. GE doubled in value roughly 7 months after EOL; HH doubled in value almost immediately, call it 2 month. TH - priced higher at $200, and hence a poor seller - went early, and has tripled in value after 6 month. All of these were in the hoarders sights in the modern "well invested" era. Given all this, I would place a very good bet that FW easily doubles in the first year post EOL, probably sooner. Assuming it doesn't pull a TB/DS lifetime.

  33. The 3 biggest winners of the sets to go EOL in the last 12 months have been GE, HH, and TH. After this, you have Mixels (and before you SSD me, that set hasn't doubled in value; all the previous one have. Only TH arguably meets the "rarity" criteria, but certainly not "rarity" by CC or GG standards, and GE and HH violate both your rules, as most certainly do Mixel Series 1, they were everywhere and wholly invented inside the Lego Universe. I think there's a completely different dynamic, and that's collectability, set design, and perceived appeal. If a design is particularly appealing or good + that set is part of a collected series or theme, that's the recipe for doing "quite well" IMHO. Exhibit A: Modulars. Or, to be a bit more broad, basically any Lego exclusive.

  36. I built two of the Star Wars Microfighters - the Star Destroyer and TIE Interceptor. I've got a whole set of them, and I'm planning on taking those, a few of the planets from the Planets series, and maybe 8099 ISD and hanging them from my 3 year old's ceiling to compliment his Star Wars bedroom. I'll take some photos when I'm done.

  37. Not to burst your bubble or anything, but this will be on the market for 2-3 years probably. Maybe more if it's a good seller. So you're looking at it hitting $400 some time around 2019/2020 if you're lucky IMHO. It will never hit $1000 or get anywhere close. (don't know what's up with the quote functions lately, but I'm really struggling with it lol.)

  38. I'm just not seeing the same value. It's got the same number of pieces as the PR and is $40 more expensive. The minifigs are quite generic, and apart from the new head, could be put together from BL for very little. Those new trans clear hinges aren't going to be in great demand, similar trans clear hinges sell on BL for peanuts, even ones that are relatively rare. It's a non-licensed set too. It's not a bad price, but it's no steal. I just can't see 99% of AFOLS being into this years down the line, unless I'm the 1%. Not every adult is into carnivals. Not this side of the pond anyway. Also, having built 4957 Ferris Wheel a while back, I can tell you this is gonna be one seriously repetitive build. 8 supporting struts, 24 spokes, 2 rims made up of 48 of the same little sections, 12 gondolas... zzzzzz. I'm just playing devil's advocate here and sharing my thoughts on it. If people like it that's great, but it's not for me. Even leaving rarity aside, it doesn't have the wow factor of the GC at all. I think I'd be lucky to double my money on these after 2 years post EOL, which wouldn't be bad, but there's better investments out there for me. Used prices will keep NISB prices modest too I think. I don't think it will be a costly set to bricklink once it retires, as there's lots of multiples of the same pieces in there. I can also see it being heavily hoarded by less savvy investors hoping for GC type returns. I hope I'm wrong, because I love sets that make me money.

  39. Blown away. The moving safety platform is an awesome touch. And $199! Compare this price point to the 10240 Red 5; what a value. This is easily the finest release of 2015 (pending the Ferrari), and one of the very best designs and sets of the last 5 years. It's huge! Minifig scale! It integrates perfectly with the modulars. This is clearly an investment homerun, and will be well bought. Even then, every future AFOL will want this set after EOL; I can see demand for this rivalling the very best of other EOL sets. I think this set will set the benchmark for what a great exclusive can do in the well-hoarded era, provided it doesn't become another TB or DS with infinite life. (I almost wish the price point was above $300 to discourage some hoarding/investment. At $200, this set is a great deal). This set is so good, it makes the Mixer an almost insta-buy for investment purposes. Given that 99% of future AFOL will want this set, some subset will want to complete the theme with the Mixer.

  40. So learning the whole "quote" thing. Anyhow, I am not sure it's from inappropriateness or immature behavior. I am very new to the site, however, I am female in my 30's and have been collecting since I was a kid. Had a dark period in my teens until early twenties, then started collecting again, then went back to school, then became broke, and now I am collecting again and have been for the past few years. I think honestly it's just there are not that many women who collect. I do think that Lego is doing a good job to attract younger girls. But, out of all the women I know, I am the only Lego collector in real life that I know. I personally am not afraid of inappropriate or immature behavior. I have been around, and some would say I have lived it. Or that I am living it... either way. I appreciate the idea of remaining mature and civil, however we all do like our laughs.

  43. So this thing may not even make it 2 years. I have been ignoring it and getting Tower Bridges. $320 is a tough pill to swallow but if it's going this soon it should do very well. In for my first one. Damn this site...

  44. A few weeks back, we posted a survey to help learn more about who the Adult Fan of LEGO (AFOL) is. Today I will be able to share those results with you in a nice illustrated format. Over the five day period, we received 579 replies and collected information from members at Brickpicker as well as help from other LEGO communities including Brickset, BrickFanatics and The Brick Fan. We would really like to thank them for helping to get the word out and collect data from different regions. It is a rather large graphic below and I tried to compress it has much as possible while keeping it looking nice. Let me know what your thoughts are and if you anything surprises you. I would like to thank TodorKolevDesign for designing the infographic. Please feel free to hire them if you need any illustrative work done. It was a pleasure to work with them.

  45. Hypothetically speaking...if a flipper bought an R2 for $300 today, it is not out of the realm of possibility that he doubles that by next winter in the heart of STAR WARS mania. It is such a popular character and with no other set like it, he can reach those levels in my opinion. I do not believe the Slave I will retire next winter, so the opportunity could be there to acquire 3 Slaves from the original $300 in the span of a year.

  48. visit the camelcamelcamel.com web and choose any lego reference you want. When the price graph comes up you have to click on the sales rank tab. I don´t see this data as conclusive myself as there are so many swings from high to low but I probably don´t have the brains to interpret it properly.
