  1. My first sale! Series 3 Gorilla Suit Guy $20 shipped. Found 16 Series 3 minifigures at my Target in Nov of last year for .06 each. Of those 16, two were this guy. Not a bad return in my opinion.

  4. Gratitude is something I need to work on so I'll give it my best try here: Thanks to edgecrusher for the heads up on a Death Star. http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/13718-daily-lego-deals-3252015/?p=443498 Thanks to 33Lego for the heads up on Ewok Village at TRU. I had some TRU rewards expiring and a gift card to burn. Timing was perfect. http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/13718-daily-lego-deals-3252015/?p=443787 Thanks to Quacs for helping me sell a Mobile Heavy Cannon. Thanks to minicoopers11 for answering my questions on International Shipping. And a very special thank you to Legodog and Bold-Arrow for recent trades. I had the pleasure to meet both of these guys in person. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and just overall good guys. This should come as no surprise to everyone but I wanted to make sure they were recognized for their willingness to help others and to also work a trade that was a win-win for both parties. I'm starting to feel part of the community here and it's great to have resources like these fine gentlemen to help me get my small business rolling. I couldn't do any of this without Brickpicker. -BrickLegacy

  6. Let me put it this way - if you have $500 to blow on a toy then an extra $1500 is not going to be worth alot to you. I don't think I am unique with my budget of $10k-$20k per year for my personal toy collection. If I needed a Town Hall I would not baulk at paying $2k for it if that was the cheapest available. I think we are long past the point of Town Hall being bought by those scraping by financially.

  7. Those who cannot afford a high priced collectible were priced out many months ago so I don't see that as being an issue going forward. At least for me there is no difference spending $500 or $2000 on a collectible. I either have the money to be wasteful or I do not. I don't see a price stall until much higher. Just MO.

  14. my next project is the market street. But I have to let the dust settle with my wife for at least a month. Since Christmas I've done the two brickbuilds, bought the entire pirates line, bricklinked the blue conversion for the brick bounty, bought my daughter the elves tree house and all the 2015 princess sets , the valentines and Easter set and detectives office. And that's all for personal build. My chequing acct is in shambles. Also the tax-man cometh soon.

  26. Too many people tend to compare everything to exclusives where they tend to get 2x value right after it's EOL. Well, this is the only true exclusive in the LOTR/Hobbit line. But not everything is a HH, or SSD. Ive beaten this horse a few times now, but I really think the ToO, The LM, HD, & UG are going to be the "premiere sets" where you will get about 3x above retail a couple years from now. I also think Shelobs attacks, Council of Elrond, Wizard Battle, Black Gate, Mines of Moria, and Lake Town Chase have potential to go in the 2x to 3x range. Shelob is already in the 2x range. The pirate ship ambush is a weird one... i'm not sure how that one will go, but lately it seems to be popping at retail rates on ebay, and I just scarfed a few of those below retail last month when I stumbled onto them at clearance in a walmart. So, that set has yet to truly go dry yet (you can still get them in various TRU's), but it might also have potential, and it's one of the last LOTR sets you can still find at retail, other than the ToO, and perhaps the Black Gate. But have no fear with the tower. I really do think it's going to do very well. Now, if they will only take that one "Ideas" concept of the Minas Tirith that's currently under review and make it into an exclusive, before they retire this line, i'd be absolutely jazzed about what this series produced. I personally, don't hate on the Mines of Moria, and some of the other sets. I think they did a good job, considering they presented a range of price points for sets, and a variety of sets. Not everything was a castle, but there are a few good castle type sets in this series. I think it's a good line.

  30. Alright everyone so I finally finished my $400 ucs millennium falcon (10179) and boy it was by far one of the most stressful builds that I've ever done, But the end result was worth it lol and it was only missing a handful of pieces, the Han solo and Chewie minifgs as well as the stickers so I definitely lucked out! Now All I have to do is inventory and build the ucs Batmobile (7784) that the seller threw in for free with the falcon

  35. Had a tempting offer of $400 CAN cash (that's approx. $30.98 US ) for my used TH. But I turned it down...can't have a missing building, either sell my entire little modular collection or none at all. Don't think I can pick up a new one for $500 now even if I wanted to. Shouldn't have passed up on those few TH's I saw at retail in the fall

  40. It looks very nice. I just built the new ISD and while I do see some differences, not sure they are enough to warrant the trouble of the swap. I haven't built the old one yet (although I have taken 3 apart from bulk lots, it sucks ).

  41. Some sets are great investments post EOL. I believe this is one of them. It will be fun to hear Darin report back how his pile of $300-400 TH investments are performing in 1-2 years. I think he will be very satisfied with that investment.

  43. I do not know for sure. I read several blogs and one of them (queenbeecoupons.com) gets Fred Meyer ads ahead of time (I can never seem to find them and she just posts a picture of it). I have used the Home 10% coupon on Lego in the past, but I don't know what the fine print will say on this one. Let's hope it doesn't exclude Lego!

  44. Some folks seem to know exactly how eBay, Lego, and the rest of the world works, despite the contrary experiences of others. My ex-wife was like this. Anyway, it doesn't hurt to keep in mind that for the most part, you are dealing with other PEOPLE in this business. Like eBay CS reps. Case in point: I spoke with one weeks ago, very distinctive voice (difficult to understand) and personality. Despite being somewhat formal, this person helped in removing a shipping defect from my selling account and told me, at the time, that another could be removed (low "item as described" rating) if I could get confirmation from the buyer that it was entered by mistake - which I suggested, considering that the buyer had left enthusiastic positive feedback. A while after I got the (friendly and helpful) buyer to reply that it had indeed been an error they weren't aware of, and the item was "perfect in every way", I called back. A different CS rep looked at it and told me the defect would be removed. After two weeks, it wasn't. So I called again and talked to the original eBay CS rep (in this story) again. Guess what? I was told, quite firmly, that there was no possible way to remove that low rating, because it was tied to the buyer's feedback, blah blah blah... I could tell I was simply being stonewalled. I didn't bother pointing out the conversation from weeks prior, I simply asked for a manager because I did not feel like I was being assisted as a customer. This person attempted to argue with me, quite strongly, for several minutes, professionally, but very stubbornly. I had to ask about four times for a supervisor, was put on hold, then quite a while later, told they were too busy and I could expect a call back. They refused to give me a time frame. I shrugged it off for the time being. The NEXT morning, I get a call from a supervisor. I was busy at work and told them I didn't have time to talk but could try to call back in about 15 minutes. Paraphrasing, I was told, "I just wanted to quickly let you know that the defect you called about has been removed from your account, and please let us know if there is anything else you need. Thank you for using eBay." I also told a story earlier in this thread where I dealt with negative feedback left because the buyer decided AFTER their son opened a polybag that it was too small for the price. Despite being told over and over that honest feedback can not be removed, you certainly won't find it on my profile. Be persistent when you know you are right. Be as polite and professional as possible. Don't assume you know everything, or that everything you are told is correct. That said, I do agree that eBay is set up to hose the seller when buyers behave poorly in general. But it certainly is not the 100% all or nothing dead to rights swear on my grandmother's grave scenario that some here make it out to be.

  46. No need for insults. I have most-certainly sold $100,000+ on eBay since 2007. Would you care for a screen shot of my seller's dashboard? We'll just agree to disagree on this issue. My few extra steps of weighing packages and taking pictures are part of my routine. I'm setup to do it, and it costs me nothing. I simply don't see a downside at this point. C'est la vest.

  48. Over the last 3 months I've bricklinked both the Cafe corner and the Imperial flagship. For Cafe corner I dropped the 5 white windows for red, and the black front door for blue and the dark blue pillars for reddish brown. I think it's definately good enough to add to my modular street and for the kids to play with. For me it was a no brainer. White windows average 10$. Red were .50cents. blue pillars average 2$ r.brown were 20cents black front door would have been around 15-20$ and blue was about 5. Imperial flagship I swapped the 6x16's r.brown plates for pairs of 6x8's because the design allowed for it. I also swapped the 2x2x11 pillars for 11 2x2 round bricks. since they're all centered with a 32m technic axle the integrity is solid. Everthing else is legit. I haven't taken a decent picture of it yet. All in all, if it's for selling, I wouldn't sub any pieces out, and would definately do my best to make sure the colors are accurate. For personal collection/play with the kids then I say do as many subs as your conscience will allow. You'll know they're there. and they'll likely bug you. For no real useful reason.

  49. Classic Space is awesome and timeless. Glad it is getting some love with Benny's Spaceship. There was something just so timeless about classic space. Yes the designs were simple and the minifigures were plain. But it is almost like they did just enough so that the imagination could do the rest. Take for example the most iconic set of the theme, the 497 Galaxy Explorer. Just the most impressive box art. Just some Lego men quietly working on a strange planet under an intense alien sun. While overhead the sleek Galaxy Explorer glides effortlessly towards an alien sun through the cold mute expanse of space. A universe of possibility and adventure await. This is why the theme has endured the decades and has such a cult status. Classic Space was the genesis that spawned the golden age of LEGO space. One of the best things was that it wasn't simple good guys Vs. bad guys like today. You had all these factions, each with their own drives and objectives. From the nomadic foragers of M-Tron to the galactic peacekeepers of Space Police to the quiet researchers of Ice Planet 2002. Each was unique. Some of the greats of space came out in this period. The 6941 Battrax, the 6990 Monorail (and its brother the Unitron Monorail base), the 6989 Mega Core Magnetizer, the 6988 Alpha Centauri Outpost. The list goes on and on! (BTW I just noticed the Blacktron guy in the background getting booted into a cell ) Sadly, in the late '90's. LEGO space went into a decline. While UFO, Roboforce and Insectoids were not bad by a long shot. They just seemed to lose something. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the sets just seemed to get too busy and lacked some intangible quality that the previous years had given us. Then in 1999 LEGO Star Wars appeared and put the final nails in the coffin of Space. Not that I am hating on Star Wars, the sets are great (until they went overboard with all the non-original trilogy stuff) and they saved LEGO from the chopping block but something dear was lost with LEGO space. Subsequent space themes have just been so forgettable. Mars mission tried admirably and Space Police III was just awful. Galaxy Squad has some awesome sets, several of which have earned places next to my Space sets. But again it just seems like the harder LEGO reach for the magic of Classic Space the more it slips away. Now this August we finally get a proper tribute to the proud lineage of Classic Space in the form of Benny's Spaceship. It is not perfect, but it does very well. And I have to say that the August release can't come soon enough. It also fills me with hope for the future of LEGO Space. /steps off the soapbox
