  7. Brickfan has some new info on the polybag. Bottom line: Lego might be mad at TRU for the way they handled the Bricktober promotion (selling the sets for $20 instead of doing the promotion as it was intended - free with purchase of a set amount). Lego seems to have pulled this polybag from TRU, and is giving it to Target. It has appeared in Target's inventory system with a DPCI attached to it: 204-00-0479 and a UPC as well: 673419233743. It's supposed to be showing up in March or April now. /edit: Lego might be mad (not made) at TRU...

  8. Well pretty funny Jaylay posted 9493 right before what I am posting as I had those questions. I wondered how long the build was and size differential for the 2. I love the way 10240 looks completed but I just don't see the value for it hitting a high dollar amount after retirement. Took right around 4 hours. For a UCS set I just don't think that is challenging enough. Like I said in my Red 5 post the other day I built the Imperial Shuttle right before this so I might be a little skewed but another member said he built Slave 1 and then this and felt the same way as far as the challenge of the build. I still see it hitting $300-350 but after building it I don't see it being a $400+ set. I wouldn't shell out that amount of money for it. I had no problem putting out aftermarket money for the shuttle and it delivered. Now that 9493 is around $100 for about 1/3 the pieces I think the value is right for that set. This set is 3x the pieces and roughly 3x the price so I guess they are on par with the exception of the build time. Well here are the pics.

  11. I'm with jaisonline on this one. I just can't get excited about this set. Maybe some interesting minifigs, but there'll always be more batmans, robins and jokers. A weird steamroller and a weird batwing... ok... maybe kind of fun to build and interesting for some... but is it prime "must have" collector material? I think not. Folks are saying they'll make a killing next Christmas, but are you sure that this is what every kid is going to want Xmas 2015? What about all the other new superhero sets... won't they want those? Some say it is a big winner 2-3 years down the road, but what makes you so sure? The Brickpicker price guide says these have been selling at a rate of 10 or 20 per month on ebay ... so that means what... 50 or 100 per month on Amazon? There are 1790 Target stores in the USA. If investors are buying, say, 9 Steamrollers at each one, then they will have stockpiled 16,110 of these by next week. They'd better start selling them soon, because they'll need to move about 380 per month for the next three and-a-half-years. I hope everyone gets the ROI they had hoped for. Maybe I'm nuts. Maybe this will be the best investment of 2015. But I'm just going to sit this one out. If nothing else, it feels nice not being part of the feeding frenzy (for once).

  15. This baffles me. I would guess many of the reviews are from folks that haven't built or seen the set in person. DO may be my favorite modular, period. It has it all: story, detail, theme, variety. The exterior is easily the most varied of any modular, with the walkway, varying height sections, *printed* windows!, and fantastic sign. It's a bar! Add the rotating fan, pool table, complete barber shop with mirror, and the messy detectives office itself, and you have a 100% winner. It's not all about size. Besides, this fits in so well next to other modulars like PR and PS.

  16. Most every review on S@H is underwhelming. Definitely not the site for quality reviews. My favorites are from the 12 year olds on sets that haven't even been released yet.

  31. $29.48 or $24.98? I picked up mine for $24.98, as did a lot of others. I'm guessing your Target isn't offer the greatest of deals right now, if Benny's is only down to $89.

  42. He did say that he can also source sets that aren't in his stockpile, in which case I guess he would go through a 3rd party. Seems like a nice guy, Asian Aussie, I got a PS and stressed I was after MISB. I got a perfect one and asked if he had any more. He told me he still had a few more PS, but no more mint-boxed ones. I almost bought a GE from him, but he said the boxes on his stock all have shelf wear (+the fact that they were already marked up to $350), so I passed. I'd like to build the GE, but the investor in me doesn't wanna pay over RRP. The AFOL in me seems to get vetoed by the Brickpicker in me of late. Anyway, I digress. I'm sure he does have 10+ TH, but at 400 bucks a pop, there are better ways to spend your capital. The TH is gone and IMO I'd recommend buying the Palace Cinema. My guess is it came out when the AUD was high, hence it is the cheapest Modular at only 199 RRP and it's already 2 years old. As this guy is local for me, I can see before I buy as I am anal about MISB. SAH works out (only just) slightly cheaper if you take into account VIP points, but buying local gets rid of the chance of getting a mangled box that's travelled from the other side of the earth.

  43. There is nothing transaction wise that it helps. It gives you a defect, and creates an environment for hostile communication between the buyer and seller (as most buyers are not intending to open a case, didn't realize that they did, and the seller doesn't realize that the buyer did not intend to open a case - meanwhile, the damage has already been done).

  48. Check out this one, I think this guy does some amazing modifications to existing modulars: Sjaak Lego 10246 XL Mod: Full collection of his photos HERE. Our family is working on the DO now, the detail is amazing. We primarily display our modulars but damn, building this thing is incredible. For us, the best part is the building and this is the most fun we have had building a modular yet. Every modular just gets more and more detailed and the building techniques keep getting better. Can't wait for 2016..
