  2. Any Wise Investor would get a few of these, as it will shoot over $300 pretty fast once the word comes its done, and should be a $400-600 set. Ed

  3. Honestly, this set is a better investment than about 99% of the other current sets out there available at LEGO S@H. A person might not like it personally, but don't let that cloud your judgement of a wonderful set. As for STAR WARS vs LOTR argument...there is no winner, just two winners. They are the two of the coolest and classic franchises of all time. No need to diss either.

  6. Materials guide for LEGO selling & shipping Many members have asked for a centralized place where they can go for shipping box information. I'm going to pin this post and update it as new information is provided. I just want to take a few minutes and thank those who wrote the following articles. They are still very good reference materials for the LEGO storage and shipping process. I may develop this into a blog article eventually. 9. Ran into a number of Series 1 at Target last night... was grabbing some milk for the kids and walked by the Lego area. Noticed the Mixels (a bunch of Series3) and for some reason I took a closer look and in the back there were a bunch of Series 1. Found 2x of 7of9 characters. So need 4 more to make two full sets. They were $4.99 as marked. Not into Mixels, but I knew Series 1 had sold out, so picked up those 14. Great... now this is going to make me want to search for the Series 2 as well....

  12. I'm sure a few have already seen the flyer for this weekend that has 40% off all MF sets (excluding HH, not that there are probably any anywhere in Canada). This is noteworthy because I noticed TRU must have divvied up some of their remaining MF stock and sent it out - my store was completely out of Ghost Trains, VCs and Crazy Scientists during Bricktober but now have a few of each of these big sets in stock on the shelf. Now that the TRU 'exclusive' nightmare appears to be coming to a close, it looks like they'll be blowing these out this weekend. I'd be shocked if they had any stock left after this weekend (moonlight madness, too, Christmas shoppers aplenty and 40% off even inflated TRU prices will probably be scooped up by investors/moms and dads alike) If you go Friday night you'll get almost another $5 back in airmiles for a $100 purchase. I went yesterday and the Windsor, ON location had 3 ghost trains, 1 crazy scientist and 3 VCs. I'll be adding these to my stock...total no brainer to sell next October/Nov/Dec.

  14. If you're stupid enough to invest all your money into Prince of Persia sets then you deserve to crash and burn. Whereas investing all your funds into a key exclusives like modulars, Campervans or Tumblers would almost guarantee excellent returns.

  16. Through some sort of a miracle, sneaked in order of 10 RIs at TRU. Got to "located in stock" for now, though I had cancellations from that stage before...

  17. I really feel like this one is about to crash, too... easily lost as it is amidst the plethora of more desirable, more unique, more exciting exclusives already jumping on the new retirement bandwagon. Is it truly as poor of a seller as it seems? Why? Perhaps because anyone interested in it to begin with already has two or six other X-wings of some sort, all much cheaper and paid for? Stickers, huh? PPP, you say? There was already a UCS X-wing? What is the real draw here, exactly? Assuming some sort of truth in that assumption, my big question is whether the lack of interest will carry over into the EOL years to come, making this a poor to average performer... or if it will translate into a massive supply/demand imbalance due to the corresponding rarity of the set on the secondary market. A potential UCS TIE Fighter in the near future complicates predictions even more. It should raise demand for this set in its waning months (unless that time is now) and/or post EOL, . It would also demand shelf space, which conventional logic would dictate comes from the Ewoks. It might make more sense to try and sell this ship alongside a TIE... stretching its lifespan considerably. Or there might be no such idea at all. I have a hunch the Ewok Village is around a while, though, especially if 10188 finally bites the bullet soon. Episode VII and a new X-wing design? How quickly will Lego have to jump on that situation and what does it mean for this set? Honestly the way things are going now, they could have stopped producing it already and we might not know for a long time. It wouldn't surprise me if there are still a comparable number of R2's in B&M stores out there at this moment. With much more available capital I would prioritize this set pretty highly these days, knowing it could be a very high risk / high return venture.

  22. I don't find any of the possible scenarios scary. Scenario 1: All other toy companies continue to make crappy bricks and sets, they're of little interest to collectors and no threat to LEGO. Scenario 2: Some other toy companies actually begin making quality bricks and sets, they're of huge threat to LEGO. #1: I keep doing what I'm doing. #2: I expand my business to buy from the other companies that start doing it right, too, to take advantage of their sudden desirability in the market.

  23. I don't tend to raise prices, I just enjoy the increased sales at my normal prices. If I were going to increase them, it would be over Black Friday weekend and through December 15 -- that's when sales go crazy for us.

  24. It's also called the "alternative model". Technics sets are "two in one" (like creators sets -except the creator expert- are "three in one"). You have to download the instructions, unfortunately, because lego is too greedy to give you those. The b-model for the cargo is an hovercraft:

  27. Well... you don't know what actually will be smart in the future so PoP could have been smart ^.^ (though it wasn't! *****) The smartest investor will get sets that are: -not hoarded -way cheaper than the retail price -will invest in a lot of different sets that work according to his investment strategy -are winners in the future (what you cannot predict 100%) the last part at least is gambling/highly speculative, though you can try to find patterns etc. to invest as smart as possible. In defense for Pop: -there has been a movie (normally that's not too bad... but the movie flopped...) -the game is highly popular and well known (though it's fans probably/obviously are not all LEGO fans as well ;-) ) -the sets and minifigs actually have been pretty neat (which is the strongest point) after the sets flopped (for some obvious reasons, especially the movie ^.^ and probably also that it didn't really fit with other LEGO themes) all sets have been available for a BIG discount so if some people speculated on these sets, thinking that they won't be hoarded, are available for quite some discount and fans might want to have them in the future since PoP itself is not unpopular, then I do get the thinking behind it. I myself didn't buy any, but I bought some Lone Ranger sets, because those are really nice AND I always loved the western theme. The movie was bad and I don't think that many people care for Lone Ranger but the western theme with really nicely made sets still had some strong points for me. Probably these have been bad investments, but still I speculated on them for before mentioned reasons. If these don't work out for me I'll still love them and build them myself. which actually is one of my key strategies; buying sets that you'd love to build yourself. So of course it is easy to say "haha how could you invest in Prince of Persia? You deserve to burn for it!" AFTER you really know the outcome. But to me this approach is to easy(-minded).

  33. I'm hoping the set is still available at SAH during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday long weekend. If they are doing 2X or 3X pts then I'm buying multiples. Eventually I will sell and include the free poster as a bonus. At almost 2 1/2 feet tall any LOTR/Hobbit fan will certainly need this if making a display. I'm a huge fan (of the general theme) and not having this set at the top of the LOTR sets just doesn't make sense to me. LOTR has a massive following, even long before any of the movies arrived and will have a massive following long after the movies end.

  34. When I saw this set build, I thought it was awesome. However, like noted already, the box art stinks. Most Star Wars sets with Yoda printed on the box seem to fly under the radar and (until now) perform poorly. You can correct me if I am wrong. I really do not understand that Lego choose to use this box art. The classic Star Wars white and blue is much better. I only own one X-wing and always tell myself to buy more of them. But at the end of the day I always prefer to buy other sets. I think that is the disadvantage but could turn into an advantage after retirement. Here in my area it is also hard to find it on a nice discount. Which is strange cause I always think of it as a poor seller. But I can be wrong. Maybe I will end up with max. 3 in my stack. Just in case. Or I just might stick with one.

  35. The ToO has a great PPP (8.48) for a licensed set. If you remove the ent I think it's about 9.00 so it's still ok. It would be wiser IMO and less expensive to buy this set for $250/300, than MOC it entirely for about the same result (it's even more wise when you consider Grima... exclusive to this set). And seriously, no offense but "much cooler" ? What do you want to improve ? If you want to have a bigger top (so more space to gandalf and saruman to fight) you will have to make a tower twice higher to respect the ratio. And if you want to close the back of the tower (I understand that well), it's still a better idea ($$$-ly speaking) to have the original one, and then add some black bricks on the back. Note: The ToO can also be used to be changed into Sauron's tower by changing some details (just removing 2 of the 4 "spines" of the top) and adding some orange and black bricks to MOC sauron's eye. Week one the ToO with sauruman and gandalf, Week two Barad-d

  38. It is a good thing some people dislike or question the set. That means they are not buying it. It's an impressive set and box in my opinion. Either you like the set or you don't. There are plenty of people who do like the set, enough to produce strong returns. I have yet to see a large exclusive set like this do poorly. I think this set will be less hoarded than most.

  42. I usually list at the price I want and then raise, depending on how many of an item I have. My prices are usually based on current selling prices plus 10% - 20%. If they sell fast or if I hear prices are rising, I'll raise them proactively. Some stuff I'm holding until December or for the items to start trickling out of stock. I sell many items in lots by theme, especially the under $50 MSRP sets.

  43. Easy to say when we know what those have done. The LOTR fanbase is much, much bigger than PotC, and this and UG are the only two options for a display-worthy set.

  44. No. I follow the trains closely. The 3677 Red Cargo Train was a limited edition, and it was obvious to many train buffs that it was going to have an out-of-cycle retirement. The Amazon UK price is a good opportunity to pick up a Cargo Train for your personal build. Generally I would advise people who aren't keenly in touch with the Lego train market to stay away from the theme other than the big creator sets. Of course, with a deep enough discount, almost any set becomes an investment opportunity.

  48. I think this line is going to do very well in the coming year. The 'TRU exclusive' nightmare is finally coming to a close, which has clouded the actual potential of this line over the last ten months or so. Even now, there are still a few VCs and werewolves floating around at TRU in Canada (as well as the other sets in the line in other places at MSRP), so I don't think we'll see the best gains until next Halloween and 2016. That being said, I think this line has classic appeal and unless it is remade in the next 12 months or so those that stuck by the MF line will be rewarded. Or I'm delusional.
