Ed and I want to create a page here in the forum (or somewhere) that will allow anyone who has an eBay and/or Amazon store to create a banner ad and advertise their store during the holiday season. Just PM me with a 728x90 banner and any small message about possible deals that you might be offering. Also make sure you include a link to your store and store name if there is one. If you want to include your Brickpicker name, let me know, otherwise I will keep it anonymous. This can be a good way for you to bring some new life to your store and get your holiday season sales off to a good start.7 points

Doing some organizing today...out with the old, in with the new. We have a "what did you not buy today" thread, maybe we need a "what did you not sell today" thread also. My calculator says yes to these two, but my hoarding heart says no, just can't do it...too nice of a set...my preeeciousss:5 points

The LEGO boomers (the generation that spent their childhood in the 80s), is just now entering their prime income earning years (mid/late 30s or early 40s). The typical LEGO boomer has 2-3 kids, at least one is probably a boy, and that son is most likely at least 3 by now (I know girls like LEGO too). This is the prime season of their life to leave the Dark Ages and rekindle their love for LEGO. I think its only just begun. Christmas of 2015 will be even more special when LEGO capitalizes on Star Wars. After that will be the new LEGO movie featuring Batman and who knows what else LEGO has up its sleeve? So I agree with Ed, I have no concerns that I won't be able to sell a TH, SSD or HH in 3-5 years for big bucks.2 points

Well, a completed Modular street is quite a display and the Town Hall is the centerpiece IMO. I think you underestimate LEGO fans and their habits.2 points

Wait till our resident expert ebayer logs in and see what she has to say, I'm personally not sure but I do know video taping will do zero good.2 points

A comment like this dosnt make sense. You have no idea what one paid for them. I got 7 of mine for free.... Without purchasing a thing. Some I did purchase. I used points and gift cards. Many got these with purchase of actually doing promo. Your assuming people paid 20.00 for all of theirs which just isn't the case.2 points

If part of Lego's strategy is to introduce new AFOL's to the brand, TBBT is a great set to approve. I don't follow the show myself, but the ratings don't lie. From Lego's perspective, this set may introduce a massive new audience to their products. And the more AFOL's acquired, the better for Lego, and, we investors.2 points

It seems like a lot of people are disappointed by the big bang theory (TBBT) set in this forum. I'm extremely surprised. Of course you have to be a fan to understand of incredible is this Ideas set. Cool details, like the heating switch or green lantern's... lantern next to the skyrocket. And seven minifigs ! About the display, it can easily been MOCed and have the kitchen added, etc. Great. In my country, TBBT is extremely popular, as much as walking dead or game of thrones (to compare with series which are on TV screens at the same moment). The only (fun) TV serie which is as popular here is Malcom. Next, I would say American Housewives or Friends (but it's not as fun as it was in the 90's). But Dr Who... I'm sure a lot of french people don't know who he is. Well, geeks do know of course. Why isn't he popular ? Because the series have not been on TV screens, or for a short time. David Tennant and Matt Smith episodes have been on TV screens but I'm not sure about the others Doctors... at least I can't remember them. We have not that much TV series here. Lots of stupid shows (supposed to be fun, ah ah.... kill me please). So when a fun TV serie like TBBT come to us, it's a success. I can imagine TBBT lego set being as much popular as the ecto-1 here. No problem.2 points

You need to ship, or accept the defect (and the risk of negative feedback) and cancel and refund. Videotaping will do no good (it doesn't hold any water with eBay or PayPal), and unfortunately putting in writing qualifications like having zero or low feedback bidders contact you first rarely helps, either - it's not something eBay will support you on, most buyers don't read , and if they buy anyway you are left with the same recourse as in my opening statement. Ship to the address authorized by PayPal, and if the cost of the item is more than you can afford to absorb if things go wrong, add insurance. As likely as not, this is a failure of Google maps - my husband was verifying the location of his new dermatologist and Google maps insisted that address was a Taco Bell. If it was, his dermatologist rents office space from them. Edited to add: Meowingthings, I am interested in the wording of your letter -- would you post it here (or send me a PM if you'd rather not share with the world?)1 point

There are alot of completionist collectors in the lego world, especially for the modular theme. They are not rare at all and there are plenty with good amounts of discretionary income to spend. There are 151 TH available worldwide on bricklink. Contrast that to 1545 GE. More importantly alot of people were caught off guard by the early retirement of TH, alot more than any other modular to date. This includes builders, collectors and the big resellers who have hundreds of GE but only a handful of TH. Alot still refuse to believe it has been EOLd by TLG. Listen to the market (both the demand and supply side). Projecting irrelevant past experiences and personal bias onto the market will only cost you profit.1 point

Her name was Gloria and I think I would die laughing if Lego actually made an All In The Family set. :rofl:1 point

Videotaping is irrelevant. Insure it with signature / delivery confirmation. If you get a not as described case let me know. I have an exceptionally well written letter you can send them that almost always fixes the problem. Next time list the set with a high price and best offer feature, that way you can pick the buyer. You might scare off a couple buyers but the security of picking the buyer is worth it. Ultimately you have to decide your own risk tolerance. If you can't afford to take the risk then cancel the sale and take the hit to your feedback which quite honestly is probably more costly than getting ripped off.1 point

Me not personally liking a set just makes it easier to offload the last few when they are going for huge money. That's all I'm saying. Also, any guesses as to MSRP on these? My guess is that between the licensing and 7 figs that TBBT set will be pricey.1 point

Recommend this be discussed further in the ethics thread where one without blame can throw the first stone1 point

That theory makes sense. The extra stocks also caused some short term fluctuation for eBay prices. I just realized alot of us sellers are really working for eBay the way fees and shipping rates into almost all gains in most cases.1 point

There is but one thing: The DS factor. Personally I think R2D2 will be a winner. The only question is "when". Even after its retirement there will be a lot of resellers. With the three upcoming movies and all I can see how LEGO would like to keep this one alive. So if you do have the money and the space to go all emazer/ed on this one... (see the pun? ;-) ) it's worth a try. As for me I will be a little bit (maybe too) cautious. (If it does go EOL next year BAM!)1 point

90% of my sets are also long-term holds. I use to be the same exact way about box condition. Then reality set in. It's just a box. Being sealed is what matters to the majority of AFOL buyers in the secondary market for expensive sets. Additionally, no matter how well I pack my sets when selling (and my packing skills are solid), I'm still at the mercy of the postage carriers. I rarely ever buy sets when they are released but if I do, that's when I'm anal about box condition. Same goes for if I'm at the store and there are 2+ copies of the same set, of course I'm buying the better box. Since most of my set purchases are toward the end of a set's retail life, box condition is less important especially when I'm buying online. Additionally, severe damaged boxes are sometimes discounted either before or after the sale so that money saved is more important to me. But hey, everyone is different,1 point

Thats the double points been added Alfiepops, so don't worry about them, you will receive them.1 point

I don't hate TBBT but I'm just surprised it made it as a lego set as it is just an apartment with some minifigs. I mean, can you think of a more boring set if you had to? Why not do an all in the family set with Archie's chair, meathead, Edith, Archie and what's her name the daughter? That would be just as exciting. Come to think of it, that may be gold!1 point

relatively healthy in Europe meaning that its not selling as they expected. which would be the case in us as well "has it not been people hoarding it for investment" probably LEGO is not an investment vehicle in Europe. whatever they are doing they are just feeding "the same people they hate"1 point

As always it's supply vs. demand. I am building Exo, it is a killer set, a lot of fun, and truly unique. Simply stated- it's over-saturated, overly available, and heavily stocked by investors. Thus, it will not "pop" at the rate others will. Regardless of the the theme, if there's more fans of a set than volume of investors hoarding, it's post-production increase will spike much faster. The show, concept, you name it doesn't matter. Limited interest from the investment community ulimately will make a retired set much sexier on the back end. As Warren B. states, "when others are running away from an investment, run towards it".1 point

i agree with excite. lets not turn this good thread into a stick measuring contest. sometimes too much information is just overkill and can cause problems (e..g. jealously). i do like the idea about posting sold prices because it gives members a gauge of what sets are going for until the price guide is updated next.1 point

Ridiculous? If I buy something then I expect good condition. Big noticeable damages are not something you need to keep (Eol excluded). I didn't pay $200 for a box that's been through the meat grinder.1 point

Well I thought I sold few TH @ Amazon today and every single one was cancelled . Yes I'm accusing anyone that can read this. Lol1 point

Sold my last 10229 winter village cottage for $198 shipped. Cleared $90 profit after fees. I bought these two years ago on clearance at the mall of America lego store. They had a stack of at least 12. I only bought 3. Who has that time machine again? I'd like to borrow it. Great set.1 point

I always loved the knights theme so personally I cannot wrong with it I'm a little bit sad that I missed out on the other cool kingdoms sets but to be honest I could buy them if I wanted to since the price didn't go that high. I cannot imagine that LEGO will not eventually bring out even cooler sets for that theme. The Joust Set always reminds me of Game of Thrones ;-)1 point

6987 Message Intercept Base - pieced together from a bulk lot I bought. Saw the big trans-yellow piece and took a chance that the rest of the set was in there. Only missing a few common parts that I easily found in my collection. It was also missing the crater baseplate, but I had a stack of those on hand. The trans-yellow pieces are in great shape, very clear. This is the only Blacktron I set I needed to complete my collection, very happy to finally have this. It's sooo cool.1 point

Have your credit card customer service numbers on speed dial so you can unlock them whenever you trigger their fraud alerts I'll be off from work as well. But I'm also going to be in disneyland that day and week. Might be the only one wasting away the time in line by sniping online deals.1 point
