One more graph for fun. I'm looking for patterns. This is a graph of the age of all Exclusives since 2007, excluding the following: - All Star Wars (since I think they have a separate release schedule than the rest of the themes). - All Factory - All Seasonal (Winter Village) What I like about this graph is it shows a relatively steady rate of exclusives being introduced, and it helps pop out which ones are getting old and which ones may be retiring prematurely.5 points

Hey Guys! So a couple months ago i started the long painful process of brickbuilding the 10179. I had many of the parts already from having a very large collection of light gray pieces, and i had been starting to really see the imperfections and scale issues with my 7965 Falcon on display (granted it's not a display model by any means, but it was better than spending thousands for the 10179). 7965 was also the set that brought me out of the dark ages. After trying for month to get a used one on CL or Kijiji, i caved and decided to start. Once finished i realized it was much larger than i thought, and had trouble finding a spot to display it. When i finally did find a spot to display it flat; it really didn't seem to do it justice and i began researching other ways to go about displaying it. Typically i'd use 2x4 clear bricks to prop ships up into more interesting angles, but 10179 would just be too heavy for that. Sure enough there were a couple search results of people mounting it on the wall, and one specifically on YouTube that had it mounted in a way that gave it mobility by using a TV wall mount. I decided this is what i was going to go for vs. a static mount as it allowed it to move into many angles, and the user had a YouTube video with great images of what i'd have to do. This took a good few weeks to complete as there were countless issues that arose. The YouTube video does not give exact details, and finding similar/like parts he used wasn't possible. In the end my mount construction resembles his, but is certainly a bit different. While the 10179 has a very strong inner frame; there are many parts i had to reinforce with more technic liftarms and even rubber bands (i'm looking at you rear underside section). I do believe i was able to find close to the exact same mount he used, but my brackets and the LEGO part of it have been constructed differently. I also added an RGB strip to the back engines to add some flare And no it has not fallen yet haha, but i do check it every so often to see if anything is bending/giving. The first night of it being up i was dreaded of being woken up by a terrifying crash I intend to paint the LED power cord the same colour as the wall to hide it. Anyways i thought some of you might be interested in seeing it. I think this really does the model justice (or at least saves some space!). ** Edit: forum upgrade seems to have lost the pictures... go to this post for new ones. **4 points

10226 SC is back in stock...'limited quantities' With import fees (from the Global Shipping Program) + shipping I think the cheapest to get in Canada is around $200 USD (except for that seller in Hungary) so getting them at MSRP seems like a slam dunk. No guarantee they'll actually ship, but I just ordered two and hopefully they ship well (or at all)2 points

Smart companies always think ahead... usually years ahead. I highly doubt LEGO ever has the "OMG we sold 10x TH last month, we better fire up the TH machine tomorrow and make more" discussion. They're a smart, privately held company and don't have to bow to shareholder pressure (Apple's real problem, imho, coupled with the need to be on the leading edge--that's a lot of pressure). LEGO is smart, and they hold the cards. They know more about their global sales and what works/doesn't than any one of us--or, likely, all of us collectively.2 points

When it comes to people saying a set will or won't be a winner I'm a bit confused. It depends on your buy in. I have x wings.... I paid 20.00 for mine. No way I can lose. Any see can be a winner. What might make me a ton of money may not for you as everyone's buy in is different.2 points

re: Five armies amazon "deal". after 20 minutes of back and forth with amazon chat CS, I finally got 2 5 armies for $15.99 each. what broke the camel's back was the links showing the incorrect 5 armies link (original order), the new 5 armies link (with the regular price), and then my invoice showing that I ordered 5 armies. had me re-order the 5 armies using the "correct" 59.99 link - sent the new order # through chat and then got the new order price reduced to the original price - YAAAAY!!!!! winning!2 points

I've found the labels peel off the boxes reasonably well. I had to remove labels from 10 Olivia's Treehouse and only one box had any sticky residue, so I was surprised/pleased.1 point

Because they are smart and see that another potential worldwide recession is a possibility. Maybe selling lower to mid priced sets is the way to go at the moment. This was not the idea I am hinting at but I wanted to respond to this particular point.1 point

After reading all this I think people are right when saying that lego will do more sales directly. Cause what I have noticed is that people flip just released new sets on for example Craig's List for profit. Cause, as already mentioned, many people dunno about lego shop&home. Hence, they are not even members of Lego. So if people can go to a legostore in their city, there is no need no more to buy something through ebay for inflated prices. So for us investors it will become more difficult. It will become even harder to buy below RRP. Lego will be the main source to buy. So it will also be more difficult to acquire multiples like we do now. Exclusives (or hard to find) will become real exclusives once again. My feeling and 0.02 about exclusive sets that will retire now or very soon: - VW T1 Camper - DS - R2-D2 - PS - SC - TB - Triple E - AA1 point

Case in point they had a whole lot of people clamoring to empty their wallets to buy lego bricks at full msrp. Throwing money at them as quickly as they'd take it. Lego does not need to discount. Believe whatever they are doing is winning the retail battle.1 point

yeah, instead of using air packing pillows or paper for the 10221, amazon is using two 10228s for protection.1 point

Edit: Ugh that was DNIIM, not Ed. I tried to quote Ed's post and change it to DNIIM since I can't quote a locked thread. This beauty got lost in a daily deal thread. Let's keep it here for posterity sake, just in case.1 point

Update: Called GCM and was told the reason they had zero balance was because ebay/paypal had contacted them and asked them to cancel the transaction. So, apparently it's not enough that ebay ensnares HTTP proxy users in their Site Interference Policy screener and threatens their accounts -- they also try to cancel your current orders. OK, that's fine -- from ebay's point of view. So, I ask the GCM rep if they had cancelled my paypal charge as a result. To which they assert "that's something to resolve between you and ebay/paypal since they asked us to cancel it". Ha! OK, call ebay and tell them what happened and I get a face of ebay I haven't seen before. They were so eager to open a case against a "seller". Since GCM has given me the cold shoulder, I had no qualms with ebay doing this. So ebay opened a Not As Described case for me and asked for "replacements". Being a moderately-sized seller on ebay myself, I know GCM will hate this, but they may be big enough not to care about one case. But it will be fun sitting on the side and watching how this plays out. I'm sure there are no fewer than three ebay departments that have no clue how to talk to each other involved now due to this fateful October 21st transaction. And now a huge seller, GCM, gets to deal with them. On the state of my "appeal" regarding the alleged violation of the Site Interference Policy and my 14-day buyer suspension -- I was told by multiple CS reps yesterday that these actions are "non-appealable" even though an appeal had been filed and I had an appeal #. I asked what would happen on a third violation -- would my buyer account be permanently suspended without appeal and they said, "yes, but rest assured that we have made notes in your account." I asked, "what good do notes do me if you can't appeal." They didn't have anything to say. The appeal process is definitely a black hole and their CS reps have no power to do anything to an account. I'm half-tempted to drive to San Jose and see if I can get into a shareholder's meeting to ask them a couple of questions about their customer treatment...1 point

Perhaps try putting ads on the bulletin board at your place of employment? If that doesn't work, you could try selling out of your trunk at the local large toy store parking lot.1 point

I built a website for my personal fun that was initially created to find pricing mistakes. I obtained a Product Advertising API from amazon to ping their servers for pricing and in/out of stock information. This runs as a series of php cron scripts on a server and pushes its data to a SQL DB. It took a few weeks of free time to set up. My entered over 500 Lego sets to monitor and it does the job quite well of listing deals including lists of the present warehouse deals. But it was a lot of work and I would only recommend it to folks who have web development experience. Again, this was just a personal exercise and I don't plan to expand on it much since it takes a lot of effort. If I make any changes to it, it would be to make some sets have a super-high query rate for the hard-to-finds with email notification. If anyone is interested in it, you can PM me, but other than the amazon warehouse deal list, it doesn't really give you anymore info than some of the other sites including BP. I haven't actually used it much myself because the pricing errors haven't been as productive as finding hard-to-find sets. And on those, I've just been using the Chrome Page Monitor with Regex expressions on specific HTML tags or page text. I have to be in front of the computer, but since I work a desk job, that's not a problem for 8 hours a day. This has been, by far, the most useful for catching stuff and it didn't require much work at all. It would be nice to be notified when I'm not at the computer, but most of the time you guys would ****** it up before I could pull it up on my phone anyways :)1 point

Hi there! If you've not seen my thread about my own experiences with investing, take a look: http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/10456-my-one-way-transition-from-investor-to-seller/ It might save you some time and money. If I can find a way to sell locally without shipping and without ebay/paypal fees, then I think it might be worth all the effort.1 point

People need to get their priorities straight! Buying LEGO products does serve but one use: Reselling them later! Also they should stop buying other stuff just because they might enjoy it and be happy... I mean what nonsense is that? Spending money on things?! You should keep that money and hoard it. And one day when you're 90 years old sitting in that dark empty space you call home you'll at least have a lot of money to keep you company and boy all those happy memories you can share with it, like that one time when you didn't open a LEGO set that you really wanted to build but sold it for some more money.1 point
